  1. It’s not cultural appropriation if a non-African person (or non-Black person) wears them. It’s cultural appreciation. They are both from Nigeria, and understand the significance and meaning behind the prints. Their website explains each print, it’s history, and how it is traditionally used. Unless they use a print that is only supposed to be used by a certain group, or in a certain way (e.g. at a funeral), what they are doing is normalizing African prints and making them just as normal a fashion choice as, say, plaid.
  2. Yes to everything above. Sherm is job hunting. He was Nicky’s assistant when she was trying to help the rapper buy a house.
  3. I knew someone that happened to. Her ex’s new gf sent her photos of them in bed naked. I guess it was to make her jealous? It didn’t work.
  4. I’m totally there only for the halftime show. Because I’m in Canada, we don’t get the commercials (it was a condition in whatever the new NAFTA is). We had a few short years where we could see them, like the few short years that we had Target.
  5. Because he’s a fitness model, his mind thinks his 52 year old self is hot stuff to young women.
  6. When I taught middle school, a classroom had a pet snake. I refused to go in the room. Then, the snake got out. I was too scared to go to the bathroom for at least a week. The students had a bake sale to raise money for a bake sale. I bought nothing.
  7. I have thoughts on last nights episode. I recognize that the patient’s brain tumour was behind his behaviour, Was Mag just supposed to brush it off and go about her shift?
  8. Watched part one last night. The fact that so many Black commentators answered the first question about how they feel about Bill Cosby with a sigh speaks volumes. This really speaks about the complexities of humans (I am really paraphrasing one commenter). He did some amazing things, but all of that is tempered by the awful things that he also did.
  9. I have been teaching high school for over 20 years, so a greater chance of students looking the same when they’re older, but man, I still forget some faces! I knew when she she was talking that she didn’t know who the student was, because that’s exactly how I talk when I do.
  10. That needs to be a marketing slogan for a Kinko's that serves pies.
  11. Response is given above me. I need to learn how to read...
  12. People are viewing 1955 events with a 2022 lens. It's like those people who wonder why enslaved people didn't "fight back", because they haven't really understood slavery. If you have no rights, how can one fight back? The same happened in the Jim Crow south. If you're living in a place where you have separate schools, water fountains, entrances, and places where you are "allowed" to sit and to live, there is no way that one can fight back against men with guns who have come to your house to get your child who allegedly mistreated a White Woman. Plus, the number of lynchings, race riots, and massacres that happened because a White woman was "mistreated".
  13. That happened to me when I was teaching in Australia. I couldn’t figure out my students were so upset when I was telling them to go to lab #2 (using my fingers for 2). Someone finally told me. I didn’t feel that bad, because that class was annoying.
  14. Wine bars are a thing, generally in major cities. I’ve been to places that have wine on tap too, as it keeps the wine fresher longer. I can’t wait until this Panasonic is over and I can visit all the wine bars (not in one go though)!
  15. I’m watching Guy’s Grocery Games, and who is competing? 4 chefs from this show. I don’t remember their names, but is Eboni, the army guy, the food truck guy, and the blue haired woman. Can I assume that one of these four will eventually win “the chance of a lifetime”?
  16. As a Canadian, these Target ads make me sad (Target didn’t last long here, and we can’t pop across the border on Target runs because of the pandemic).
  17. Why does this feel like an episode of Catfished? Where is Max with the camera?
  18. Me too. I texted my dad after the episode to tell him I loved him and that he’s awesome.
  19. I’m really liking this show. Like the camaraderie between the friends, and that they’re showing vulnerability in Black men. I so wish there were a wine bar in my neighbourhood.
  20. I’m aging myself, but you just made me think of the book Scruples. I always thought of it as a snatched waist, as in it’s been “snatched” in.
  21. I quite liked this first episode. The characters are good, and the “drag race” was hilarious. Why can’t I have Jason/Kardinal as my neighbour?
  22. Well, that didn’t last long. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-10368391/Reality-star-HEART-ATTACK-symptoms-FARTING-200-000-selling-wind-JARS.html
  23. Even thinking about garments justifies buying more fabric.
