Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
LoneHaranguer replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
Last time I asked, it would have cost an extra $450/year to cut the deductible on my insurance from $1000 to $500, and that's with a driving record free of tickets or accidents. They're clearly making big profits off of people wanting to avoid a sudden large expense. -
Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage

The three-fourths woman seems to be saying that it's three-fourths of what the car is worth, but if that's the case, the difference is the deductible because you don't get that if the accident is your fault. Why is it so hard to understand that if you screwed up, it's gonna cost you somehow, and the alternative is to pay extra up front in case you do (like the Allstate women who doesn't seem to realize that the rebate check is her own money she's getting back because she *didn't* have the accident she already paid for. -
S08.E24: The Commitment Determination
LoneHaranguer replied to MMLEsq's topic in The Big Bang Theory [V]
He once told the ladies he'd take anyone who'd have him, so I think you're right. I suspect Emily is not as extreme as she seems at first glance and just enjoys pushing Raj's buttons. They may have been inspired by Abby on NCIS. She's a very popular character who would have sex in a coffin before the writers pulled back a bit. Not quite all states require a license, and of those that do, there's at least one explicit about saying that a marriage that takes place without one is still valid. In my few minutes on legal sites I didn't find any states declaring a license-less marriage to be void, but I think there would be a conflict with the First Amendment doing so. -
The Past Seasons Discussion Corollary

Withdrawing a renewal would be costly; the producers would have financial commitments that need to be covered. The network has to decide what makes the most sense and that could be going ahead with a losing season. -

If the stars can't get paid as much, each minute of ad time generally isn't worth as much either. Differences in contract lengths can cause temporary disparities. -
S08.E24: The Commitment Determination

I think that's not so much idiotic as ignorant; she didn't know you can have a real wedding, any more than Leonard didn't know you can have a fake one. And he may still not, so they may come back from Vegas only thinking they're married. -
I thought it was the other way around; he used her aesthetician.

I'm not sure it was a retcon; he could have been affected by his failing business. Raj has been a jerk since at least the beginning of S2, when he got a mention in People magazine. I like Emily. She's creepy in a fun way, like the Addams Family without the element of danger. -
S01.E07: Stephen Merchant vs. Malin Ackerman

Her boobs certainly were. -
The first time they did this it was back in S2, but the episode has been rerun so much I'm surprised not everyone has seen it (although I could see the ad for it turning people off).

Networks can withdraw a renewal, but it would need a very good reason, and with no viable alternatives. at least one more season is pretty certain. -
Raj Koothrappali/Kunal Nayyar: He Loves His Dog

How do you know where he fired? Raj didn't even say how she "tried to help". -

Pulling out the ring was the obvious "twist", so I was totally expecting it. The writers have been phoning it in all season. -
This is just a silly summer show that came early to fill a scheduling hole. The producers know what they're dealing with; when Hoda started stinking up the joint in the first round, the cameras were pulled back. That didn't happen for her opponent because they thought he was hiding his mouth with his hand well enough. But, really, when Beyonce can't lip sync to her own song on a video when engineers can try to fix things, what can you expect of anyone that can be recruited for a show like this. I think Chrissy is only there to act as an excuse for LL to break off talking with a guest, although I've noticed she does a pretty good job of lip-syncing herself. They should give her the belt when neither celebrity has done as well.

Why the Demarcation? - Liv's Love Life
LoneHaranguer replied to possibilities's topic in iZombie [V]
It does represent an aspect of real life with a sound scientific basis. People are attracted to those with genetic similarities because the point of reproduction is to create copies of yourself (more or less). That means interracial attractions just aren't as likely, especially for someone in the local majority group (white in this case), since they're simply bumping into more people in the same group than others (minorities by definition). -
Since some people are going to assume that a wrestler named Sam is male, it shouldn't be remarkable than she's using the less common, but more gender-specific, variation (even if the guy's hadn't seen it before).
-
What was it about Samm's name the guys didn't like? I presume her given name is Samantha, but she doesn't want to be that formal, or as informal as Sammi(e).

S08.E23: The Maternal Combustion
LoneHaranguer replied to shapeshifter's topic in The Big Bang Theory [V]
On her first visit, Beverley said that, except for the wedding night, she and Leonard's father only had intercourse for the purpose of reproduction, so it wouldn't have been an accident. It's possible she was talked into having a child at a time she didn't want one. I suspect Leonard actually has at least two brothers. When Sheldon asked Leonard's mother about his "incredibly successful brother and sister", she refers to his "younger brother, Michael" but doesn't feel a need to be as precise about his sister. That's consistent with Leonard having only one sister, and at least one older and one younger brother, with only the sister and one younger brother being "incredibly successful". It's unclear whether saying "Michael" was for the purpose of providing additional information or a clarification, so I'm not sure if Leonard has more than one younger brother. Leonard isn't as precise in speaking, but his references to his older brother implied he only has the one. -
I think Ravi is a bit conservative and is attracted to women who are likely to be put off by his job. He doesn't have that problem with Peyton since she's accustomed to Liv doing the same kind of work.

The zombie rat was only able to eat all of the other rats because they were trapped. If it got out of the lab, where it could infect other rats that were running around free, some could escape to infect others.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
LoneHaranguer replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
That was my first impression, but I think only the guy on the left is actually a moron, while the other guy is just accommodating him, like you might a child. Where do you find a Sonic that has that many carhops to each be delivering one flavor of shake? I think the local one has at most two on duty at any one time. -
Maybe if their dream didn't involve going to college. Anyone who did would be just starting a career, or still be in school. My high school didn't have a 5-year reunion, but I know of one that specializes in teaching students who want to go directly into a "trade" or 2-year program; a school like that might.

In some circles it's considered being a sucker to work for the kind of lifestyle that the government is willing to give you for doing nothing. It's not a generational thing. Back in the 90's, a lot of people were concerned when politicians started talking about "welfare reform" that would have people do simple work or job training as a condition of receiving benefits. It was just talk; nobody was really going to alienate that many voters. Judges can only go by the evidence they're given. Nobody with a better claim wants custody, and no evidence that she'd be a danger to the kid...done. next case.

Some guys go under the theory that if you cut back the brush it'll make the tree look taller.
