  1. Was at the mall yesterday. Looked around and realized how I have not been paying attention to Gen Z. Is every teenage boy getting perms now? When did they all decide "I want a haircut that makes me look like Sideshow Bob, or broccoli"?
  2. Season 1 watch continuing: Case of the Lonely Heiress: The murder victim is played by L.Q. Jones who I've only seen before as an old man in Casino and Mask of Zorro. It's crazy seeing him so young. Case of the One Eyed Witness: Angie Dickinson! Scooby Doo ending! Case of the Deadly Double: First episode that doesn't have "Earl Stanley Gardner's.." before the title. Instead it says "Based on characters by Earl Stanley Gardner" So I guess this wasn't based on one of the books. The Three Faces Of Eve came out a year earlier in 1957. The writers must have seen it and gotten ideas for this one.
  3. It was Lucas' production. Spielberg had no involvement. If you didn't even know that, then you didn't really know a lot about the show. History didn't center on Indy it was only being seen through his eyes. We meet and learn about real life figures like humanitarian Albert Schweitzer and jazz musician Sidney Buchet through him. Also if you don't want to watch anything historical involving an imaginary person, that eliminates a lot of books, movies and TV! Liked the clip especially Phoebe Waller Bridge being duplicitous.
  4. This was trending today and I decided to post it here.
  5. Thanks! Besides Perry's shorter hair, and the more noir-ish style, another tip off for me as the show went on was it didn't have variations of the title theme constantly playing throughout! It probably wasn't written yet when they made the pilot. One thing I noticed watching the episodes in season 1 is they really worked the theme more often than later seasons.
  6. Going through Season 1 Volume 1 DVD and am halfway through "The Case of The Moth Eaten Mink" and I haven't looked it up but this must be the pilot episode but they aired it later in the season. Am I right? It just seemed suddenly different from the previous episodes.
  7. A fun little video from Useful Charts who usually does historical subjects.
  8. Although Let it Be did win "Best Original Song Score". If the Beatles weren't about to break up they could have accepted in person! My favorite part of Woodstock movie ever since I first saw it on PBS in the 90s will always be Santana's "Soul Sacrifice". Not only for the fantastic performance but the reaction shots of the crowd hearing this new band from San Francisco for the first time.
  9. Style > substance. Sure it's great when a movie has the latter but it's even better when it's got the former too. It's not about money on the screen. There are expensive movies with no style while there are very low budget movies that still manage to have it. All it takes is interesting art direction, costumes and cinematography.
  10. One of the things I like about 70s disaster movies is they featured old movie stars like the Towering Inferno had Jennifer Jones and Fred Astaire. Funny how aging made Fred more lovable because to me young Fred Astaire had the male equivalent of RBF!
  11. In happier news: So I guess Eleven on STRANGER THINGS will be "living on a prayer"! I'll see myself out.
  12. So I'm just playing my favorite song of his all day. "Sad to say, I'm on my way, won't be back for many a day, my heart is down, my head is turning around, had to leave a little girl in Kingston town..."
  13. Finished season 9. Jones > Troy. Joyce Barnaby in a nutshell:
  14. Seeing it always brings back memories of 1989 when I was 11. That Danny Elfman score is awesome and the Prince songs while not his best are still fun. Speaking of:
  15. So I enjoyed it a lot more on rewatching now that I didn't have the theories about what I thought would happen. Reading the negative reviews of the finale it's clear a lot of adult fans have outgrown Star Wars, at least anything that's like the pure fun of first movie and are ashamed of it. As posters here call it the "pew pew" side of the franchise of Star Wars. Also as with the Jedi there is a dislike from critics to Mandalorians now that they are shown to be a strict devoit thing. So much of the attitude IMO is really "I can't imagine myself as a Jedi/Mandalorian anymore because they have stupid rules I would never obey because I'm both an intellectual free spirit who thinks organized religion is BS!" 😂
  16. Into a few episodes of season 9 and reminded how good British actors are at believably playing characters who have loathed each other for years in one introductory scene! You could never do a good US adaptation because that level of nastiness from Americans would be too unpleasant to watch. Cabot Cove is basically Mayberry in New England.
  17. I genuinely was afraid they were going to kill Bo so I'm glad she's alive. Also that the Armorer wasn't a traitor as some theorized since last week. I get fans wanted it to be the Empire Strikes Back, but you need to have a "A New Hope" happy ending first and this was it.
  18. I thought it was okay. It tied up all the plots so far and set up the new premise. I'm really glad though they announced at Celebration in London that one of the planned movies will be the final culmination of all the Favreau and Filoni live action shows It let's fans know tells "Do not expect anything really major in terms of overall lore until the big screen!
