  1. I'm so jealous! I don't think I ever saw him onstage, but since I've seen tons of theatre, I'd have to look through my programs. My first indelible impression of him was in Eyes of Laura Mars and I've continued to be a fan since then. His death saddens me.
  2. I'm a little (okay, a lot) too old for Sesame Street, but it occurred to me that today is the taping of the Kennedy Center Honors. Sesame Street is an honoree, the first TV show to have that distinction. I'm sure they will honor Mr. Spinney during the show. And FYI, the Honors will be on next Sunday, the 15th, instead of the usual day after Christmas.
  3. Meh is a good description. I laughed more than I did during the last show (I think it was the last show...), but nothing really came together. J-Lo was good. DaBaby was definitely weird. I think Dem Trumps was better the last time. And this Chad sketch wasn't as good as previous ones. But, I didn't hate the show. So that's...something.
  4. I was just coming here to post the article from "Vice" Seems the commercial isn't very popular anywhere.
  5. I switched to the default theme and the centering issue is solved. It also solved the other issue that cropped up this morning - a ribbon ad popping up at the bottom of the screen every time I go to a new screen. In default, that doesn't happen. Can someone also look at the ad issue while looking at the centering issue in the other themes? Thank you.
  6. Sweet potatoes and apples (and chestnuts if you want) in a honey run glaze from Gourmet Magazine, 1992: Rum-Glazed Sweet Potato, Apple & Chestnut Gratin This flavor combo is sure to bring a smile to your face. Preparation Recipe from Gourmet Magazine. Ingredients: * 3 lbs sweet potatoes, pricked with skewer * 3 golden delicious apples, peeled and cut into 1/8ths * 1/4 c fresh lemon juice * 1 c halved roasted chestnuts (Score an X into the flat side of each chestnut. Roast for 20 minutes at 400 degrees F. Crack and remove shells. Read more about roasting chestnuts here. * 6 T unsalted butter * 1/2 c firmly packed light brown sugar * 1/2 c honey * 2 T dark rum * 1/2 t cinnamon * 1/4 t ground ginger * 1/4 t ground mace Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Bake the sweet potatoes in the middle of the oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until tender. Let them cool. Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them diagonally into 1/4-inch slices. In a bowl toss the apples with the lemon juice and arrange them with the sweet potato slices in a buttered 14-inch gratin dish. Sprinkle with the chestnuts. In a stainless steel or enameled saucepan, cook the remaining ingredients over moderate heat, stirring, until the sugar is dissolved. Spoon the mixture over the sweet potatoes and apples and bake the gratin in the middle of the oven, basting occasionally, for 30 minutes, or until the apples are just tender and the sweet potatoes are heated through. The uncooked gratin can be assembled 1 day ahead and kept refrigerated, covered. Bake, uncovered, basting occasionally, for 40 minutes. Put the gratin under a preheated broiler about 4 inches from the heat until the edges are browned lightly. Serves 8 I've never put chestnuts in, but I'm sure they're wonderful. I also bring wine. Much wine. Always at least one of each - sparkler, a riesling, a pinot noir and a zin.
  7. We usually go to Mr. ebk's family, but since all of his brothers have shows today (they're all stagehands, as is Mr. ebk, but his theatre is closed today), they will be eating extra early and we're just not feeling it. So, it's just us at home for the first time. I'm making the sweet potato/apple thing. He made an apple pie last night. And for dinner, we're having leg of lamb! Yay!! And there will be wine... Happy Thanksgiving all!!
  8. Jonathan Miller directed the "Long Day's Journey Into Night" with Jack Lemmon and Kevin Spacey and Peter Gallagher that played in the theatre where I worked back in the day. Jack Lemmon and Peter Gallagher are wonderful people. I don't remember much of Mr. Miller, but he was an extraordinary talent.
  9. What settings did you change? I hate the page-loading issues. And I don't care about having ads - I'd think that the site wouldn't want folks using ad blockers because, you know, revenue. So they should fix the page-load issues, dammit.
  10. I may have laughed twice during Update. Otherwise, this show was deleted from the DVR as soon as it was over. Good thing they have some time off.

I am liking this post even though you mentioned the '79 Series. Blech. I just caught the end of this on Ovation, so it must be somewhere for you to watch. I remember thinking this was a really stupid movie when I first saw it (in a theatre in Providence while visiting someone working there), but I've since come to appreciate it for what it is - a stupid, but really fun movie.
  12. Someone at NBC News wrote an opinion piece that the impeachment hearings lacked "pizzazz", like that was important and not the content. I'm guessing that's what they're referring to. I agree the sketch wasn't very good. Which is a shame since there's so much to work with.
  13. I love the idea of a Gypsy parody. This wasn't it though... It really needed John Mulaney. The funeral sketch at the end was funny, but I feel like they've done it before. It felt like they'd done a lot of these sketches before. And honestly, I thought Harry Styles was charming and game, but having Jon Hamm there just made me wish Jon Hamm was hosting.
  14. I had to do the same thing this summer. When I got my first "Real ID" licence a couple years ago, it was just like getting a regular renewal. But since then, the Feds changed the requirements, so that's why we had to go back with the passport, SSN and proof of address (I just used my car registration and insurance since MVA has that on file anyway). I got an appointment easily and was out of there in about 40 minutes. I had more trouble finding parking than getting the documents scanned. So blame it on the Feds, not Maryland (for once 🙂 ) As long as they'll still update your mom's licence whenever she's here next, it should be fine.
  15. Did you have to mention this? I was hoping it would just go... unmentioned...
  16. The championship parade was Saturday afternoon. It would have been difficult to get them there. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Shit, the more I think about that fucking umpire, the angrier I get. How dare he insert himself into the game like that on such a bullshit call. Dammit.

What a bullshit call... and what a beautiful home run! I kinda hate that the umpire has made me care about this game.
  21. Sheryl Crow released an album recently that she said was her last. In an interview with NPR about it, she said she's not retiring, she's just going to release songs, no more album, because people don't buy or listen to music that way anymore. This makes me sad.

His name is really DC Washington and he's been singing the anthem here for about forever at all the venues for all the teams. I like him. As far as Suzuki... I've been to one Nats game this year because my bro was here from Italy and he hadn't been to the stadium yet. So ... I don't know the answer to that.

Good choice - the play and the day. We're seeing Dave Bromberg and Bettye LaVette and they're only here on Saturday. So here's hoping for a game on Sunday!

I really hope the Astros win at least one game because I'm going to a concert Saturday night and I'd hate to miss the last game of the season. Poor planning on my part, I guess, but who coulda known.
  25. I have about 30 watches (I love watches!). I just reset them whenever I wear them the first time after a time change. I do wish we would just settle on a time and stick with it. My peeve, I guess, is that it's about time for my annual watch battery change. It's kinda a PITA.
