  1. I love Denzel, but it's not like he didn't know he was going to get this award. He might have been a bit more prepared...

The Packers have reverted to form...and so have the Taters. It's looking grim in TaterLand. Darn

The current closer? He seems eminently cuss-able... :-)
  5. I don't know if there's another thread for In Performance at The White House, but I'm watching the new one with Buddy Guy, Audra McDonald, Keb Mo', Smokey Robinson and on and on... and it's wonderful. I'm amazed they fit so many people into an hour show. But it's a quality hour! The only thing I'm not fond of, and I found that to be true for the Gershwin Prize show, is the shots of the audience. They look so...awkward...bopping around in their seats. Try to catch this one at some point if you can.

There actually WAS an earthquake here in 2011 (the one that damaged the Washington Monument and Cathedral). Unfortunately (or not!), I was in Italy visiting my brother. So I missed it. To this day I can't forgive my boss for not taking a picture of the shelves before he ran out of the building in abject terror :-) My collection has grown quite a bit since April (a friend sent me a Roll Tide! 'head just today). I'll try to remember to take a new picture for your amusement. Or for my amusement.
  7. As engaged as Cicely Tyson was, Carole King was totally into the whole show! That was lovely. And Aretha is a force of nature! She seems a million times better than the last time I saw her perform.
  8. Cicely Tyson seems like she's so happy to be there. She's so engaged. It's a beautiful thing. Agree with chitowngirl and BW Manilowe - I do like the clips of the White House ceremony.
  9. It has not. It had all the markings of New Producers trying Something New. Love Viola Davis's dress
  10. So far, the only thing that says "new producers" to me is the overhead shot of the house. And it's not having the "wow" effect on me that I think they're going for. It just makes me dizzy. The Rita Moreno tribute was fabulous.
  11. Between this one and the woman who wants the salesguy to come in and meet her family, I'd rather have the VW grannies back. I HATE these people. I don't know why VW thinks I'd want to buy a car from them if these are the people buying cars from them.
  12. Paul McCartney!! The show was good, but the ending was fabulous!! Merry Christmas everyone!
  13. Actually saw the show (although of course I watched the Tonys). As soon as he opened his mouth and sound came out, I was hooked. Didn't matter that the show was an ALW show, he was so spectacular, I went back a couple more times. Maybe I've just never focused on the accent when he was on talk shows before. I'll have to start paying more attention.
  14. I'm going to see Darlene's Christmas show tonight at the Howard Theatre. I can't wait!!! (Hope I put this in the correct thread...it didn't really fit anywhere else)
  15. Going to see Darlene Love's Christmas show tonight. Can't wait!!!!!!
  16. I loved "and now, my second question." I've been a Mandy Patinkin fan since I saw in in Evita way back in the stone age. This is the first time I've really noticed the Chicago accent. He's a force of nature. And he sings so beautifully...
  17. They did this song during a Tiny Desk Concert on NPR. It was posted during Hanukkah. I think they're posting the rest of the concert on Friday. Looking forward to hearing it.
  18. I saw Bright Star last night at the Kennedy Center. I knew nothing of the story, just that Steve and Edie wrote the music and it was bluegrass-y. Which I love, so that's fine. I really liked the first act. It was "unconventional" in that it wasn't sung through, but there were no stops. The songs flowed into the next song or scene with no pauses for applause. (That was fine with me, but a couple of people behind me really wanted to clap). I was caught up in the story. The cast is almost uniformly excellent, especially Paul Alexander Nolan. The plot turn at the end of the act had me thinking I knew how it was going to end. But still... Act Two wasn't nearly as engaging. Much more "conventional" with songs that ended for applause. There was a moment when I thought my theory of how it would end was wrong...but that didn't pan out. I wasn't too happy with the way the story played out. I've heard it's a "true" story, so I'll have to do some research on that. Loved the set and the orchestra. I did enjoy the show on the whole. I'll be interested to hear/read about changes made. Not sure if I want to see it again...unless it's free. Then, sure!
  19. This was a really fun appearance. The interview was good and this skit was lovely.
  20. Thanks for reminding me about this. I watched tonight and found the show totally delightful. If I was in NY more often and had seen most of the stuff I want to see, I wouldn't hesitate to see this in the theatre. Really lovely show. This is a wonderful idea, livestreaming theatre. I hope it happens more often.

That game was brutal. As is the entire division. And whichever team "wins" the division gets to host a playoff game. That's just wrong.

Another unbelievable ending to a game. What a wacky season this has been.
  23. Admittedly, I've only been paying fitful attention. I've enjoyed this production waaaaay better than the last two. But damn, that girl just made me cry. That was amazing.
  24. Here's the NYT article. There is a joke about the "Experience." http://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/02/arts/television/david-letterman-even-retired-keeps-on-interviewing.html?hpw&rref=arts&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&module=well-region&region=bottom-well&WT.nav=bottom-well&_r=0

Wow. Almost turned it off after the last Ravens turnover. Really glad I didn't.
