  1. Really happy about Matt Bomer! I actually wouldn't have been too upset with anyone else - except Jon Voight.
  2. A perfect way to phrase it! It seems like they went out of their way to choose the least expected nominee in each category. At least so far.
  3. I liked the KC productions. I think my favorite, though, is the one done at Arena Stage with Victor Garber (don't remember what year). I love Merrily. Really love it, and I go see every production I can. But it always makes me sad because it just doesn't work.
  4. Thanks for all the suggestions dear. We got tickets to see Between Riverside and Crazy on Sunday evening. So we have all of our show slots filled. Now to decide where to eat! I hope the weather cooperates. Mr ebk brought home a copy of Lighting and Sound America from the union office (who knew there was magazine for lighting and sound techs - although why wouldn't there be...) the other day. There's a good article on the tech aspects of On the Town. I'll have to try to remember what to look for while I'm watching. Can't wait!
  5. I wanted to enjoy it, but just didn't. I loved that they put Billy to work - that was the best part of the show. Loved Tony Bennett, but wasn't crazy about a few of the other performers (whose names are escaping me at the moment). And watching the crowd "rock out" was almost cringeworthy...
  6. Way back when, George Will wrote a baseball book, "Men at Work." He was doing a signing at Chapters in downtown DC, so I thought I'd walk over after work. The only other book signing I'd been to was Garry Trudeau signing a Doonesbury book and the line snaked through the entire store. It was sign quickly and don't talk to Mr. Trudeau - too many people. So I get to Chapters, and there's Mr. Will sitting at a table in the middle of the store...all alone. Which means I had to talk to him while he signed my book. I don't agree with him on most of his opinions about, well anything, except baseball. So I had that going for me. It was really awkward... The book is quite good though.
  7. I had checked the WETA and MPT schedules the week before Christmas and didn't see the episode listed anywhere. I didn't even think to check OnDemand, so I must thank you Popples! I watched it yesterday and quite enjoyed it.

I spent the second half of this game talking to myself - out loud - because I kept thinking about how the Ravens blew both games to the Bengals this season in the last 10 seconds (at least it seemed like the last 10 seconds). Thank goodness I can stop talking to myself. I'm not really very interesting...
  9. Thanks aradia22! We're coming in on Saturday the 17th and leaving on the 19th, so we're looking for a show on Sunday evening, the 18th. Because it's a Sunday evening, the choices are limited. Has anyone seen "Between Riverside and Crazy?" I'm intrigued and can get tickets for $53... I hope you can get affordable tickets to see "Side Show" tomorrow, aradia22. DisneyBoy, I didn't see the original production and, in fact, had not heard any of the music and knew nothing of the show (although I did know what it was about) before I saw it at the Kennedy Center. I can only say that I was quite pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it as much as I did.
  10. As I recall, I like it a lot :-) Did you get up in time to get rush tickets? I hope so! Did I mention that it was sweet of you to want to help me get HipTix to Cabaret when we're there in 2 weeks? Problem is (other that you can't), is that although I will swear there was a Sunday night show listed for the 18th, it is no longer listed. And since we already have our tickets for Saturday evening and Sunday matinee, we can't see Cabaret. This does not make me happy. That being said, does anyone have a suggestion for a show/concert activity for Sunday evening on the 18th? I've checked the usual venues (54 Below, BB King's Blues Club, Iridium Cafe, etc) and can't come up with anything. Thanks for any help.
  11. Just finished watching this. A couple of thoughts: Loved seeing the Broadway divas (Laura Benanti, Kelli O'Hara and Jessie Mueller). I love that they usually manage to bring in the stage stars. I love Kate McKinnon and thought she was wonderful. It didn't sounds like Garrison Keillor narrating the filmed Tomlin tribute. It may have been him, but it didn't sound like him. And if it wasn't him. why wasn't it? Tom Hanks looked like he had the best time of anyone in the whole house. All evening. Sting's wife Trudy looked like she was having the worst time of anyone in the whole house. Until Bruno Mars started singing. Then she smiled A lot. (So did I) Christine Baranski looked fabulous, but I wonder if she has any personal connection to Patricia McBride. Still, it was a lovely tribute. Mavis Staples is the best. I adore David Letterman. All in all, it was a pretty good show, as usual. I think I was spoiled by the 2012 tribute with Dustin Hoffman, Buddy Guy, David Letterman, Natalia Makarova and Led Zeppelin. That was a spectacular evening. This one was still very enjoyable.
  12. I did see the Philharmonic concert last night. Enjoyed it immensely! It was a perfect alternative to all the other NYE junk that was on. I also saw "Diner" yesterday at the matinee. Loved the music. If they recorded a cast album right now, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. They do need to do a lot of work on the structure though. The Narrator / Older Boogie character has to go. He totally stops the action in its tracks and drags the whole piece down. It's easy enough to figure out what's going on and what it means. We don't need to be hit over the head with it. The cast was engaging. Erika Henningsen, who plays Beth, has a gorgeous voice. But I hope she works on her diction some. She has a showstopper in "Tear Down This House", but it was tough to understand the lyrics all the way through. Overall, I enjoyed it and really hope they can work it into a hit. Happy New Year everyone!!

Holy moly, someone needs to tell the Ravens that the game is 4 whole quarters, not just 1 late quarter. I may just keel over if this is their game plan going forward.
  14. We have a Penzey's here. I don't cook much, but I love walking around the store and sniffing everything! I think it's a great selling tool that they have every spice in a jar that can be uncapped and sniffed right there. I know, I'm weird... :-). My husband, the cook, orders most everything from them. He's particularly fond of the Tuscan Sunset and a bunch of the other blends. It's a fun place to shop. Tasty, too! And just to keep this on topic, he usually orders online since the store is in Rockville. And no one in his right mind goes to Rockville unless absolutely necessary.
  15. Yes, thanks stonehaven!! I'd love to see Paul and the band in concert sometime. If only...
  16. I'm also a fan. Last time I saw Craig do his stand-up, Josh Robert Thompson opened for him. I'm going to see him in February. Hope JRT is also there this time.
  17. I thought the end was brilliant. A little Newhart, a little St Elsewhere, a little Sopranos... just wonderful. So why am I so sad now?
  18. I started crying when the snow started falling on Darlene Love, and continued through Craig's opening. It was truly magnificent.
  19. Jay Thomas to Dave: We'll never see each other again. Dave to Jay: That's right. Brilliant Darlene looked fabulous. Sounded fabulous. I always start crying when the snow starts falling...
  20. Thank you both. I'll get around to watching the beginning of the show at some point.
  21. So long, in fact, that many of us here in the Capital of The Free World , have been calling them The Taters for years. I missed the beginning of the bit, but was Dave calling the Taters owner "Snyderman"? Wasn't sure if there was a mention of why at the beginning (since his name is Snyder). Not that it bothers me. He's called much worse names around here.
  22. I don't. My husband doesn't like them, so when we moved in together 22 years ago, I stopped wearing perfume. I do use Victoria's Secret vanilla body lotion. He seems to be okay with that. And I like it.
  23. Just bought tickets for Constellations in January. Mr ebk is a huge fan of Ruth Wilson. So...we'll see. We will also see On The Town because I want to see it :-). I'm hoping for a new discount code for Cabaret. The current one expires on January 4. This is a totally spur of the moment trip...if you can call 5 weeks out "spur of the moment." Can't wait!
  24. Kate McKinnon participated in the Lily Tomlin Kennedy Center Honors tribute last night. Show will air on 12/30 on CBS. It's always a lovely evening. http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/people/2014/12/07/tom-hanks-sting-saluted-at-kennedy-center-honors-gala/20050929/
