I wasn’t sure where to post about the question of whether or not family vloggers are predatory. In professional acting there are laws to protect children that limit the amount of hours they have to work a day and a percentage if the income must be placed in a trust. But with family vloggers there are no laws. These families can film their kids 24/7 and don’t have to reserve any income for the children even though the children are the money makers drawing in views. these family vloggers are very popular. I definitely have gotten drawn into a view of kids being adorable or funny. My little niece likes to watch family channels. I’m sure there are wholesome families but it’s unregulated and abuse can so easily happen. How do we know what’s happening behind the scenes? Do these young children want or even comprehend being online? Will these kids get bullied at school because their parents shared personal videos of them online? What happens to the family dynamic when home life is business? There’s also the issue of predators watching and sharing clips from these channels for their own perverted use. There was one Mommy vlogger who stopped using her kids in videos after she found out pedophiles were sharing clips on predatory websites. The Dark Side of Family Vlogging Family channels are actually terrible Family Vloggers: Something needs to change One upsetting video was of a Vlogger who mistakenly uploaded an unedited version of a video about the seriously ill family pet. At the end of the video she pressures her child to cry for the picture she needs for the YouTube thumbnail. The child was already crying but it didn’t look the way she wanted. It makes you wonder what ugliness that gets edited out of these channels. One family vlog I like is the Holderness family because the kids aren’t heavily featured. They are like guest stars who show up occasionally. You could go through tons of content that doesn’t have their kids in it. I know they probably aren’t all bad but I have concerns.

Lindsay Ellis author and YouTuber is quitting YouTube. Why did Lindsay Ellis quit Twitter? Internet blames cancel culture for YouTuber's exit In my opinion, her tweet that Raya and the Last Dragon and other YA content was derivative of Avatar the Last Airbender didn’t earn the level of hatred directed her way. Especially when other content creators like Honest Trailers made the same criticism but got no push back I thought her video Mask Off addressing the controversy was the beginning of moving on for her I respect her prioritizing her mental health. Her channel was one of my favorites and really had an impact on other video essayists. I wonder if the harassment she received from author Addison Cain she was also a factor. She was also harassed years ago when she said something stupid on the internet in the past. Sometimes when people talk about being canceled it’s b.s. What happened to them was simply that they got criticized and didn’t want to deal with the consequences of their actions. There’s a difference between good faith criticism and harassment. Once things get to harassment territory and death threats it’s gone too far. Some things she’s said deserve criticism but the extreme levels of harassment and the impact on her mental health were too much. No one should be free of criticism but cruelty isn’t justified. -

I’m reading The Doomsday Book by Connie Willis. In this story historians can time travel to the past to learn accurate information about the eras they are researching. Kivrin pushes to be allowed to visit the 1300s against the advice of her mentor. She put in 2 years of preparation but things go wrong in the both past and present potentially trapping Kivrin in the past.

Comparing the different versions This was well researched.

Kenny Ortega announcing the cancellation at a fan convention. There is a devoted fanbase for the show and so I still hope for at least a movie to wrap things up. We were left with a cliffhanger and at least the cast and fans could get chance to finish the story in at least a shortened form. -
I liked the ex husband storyline. The neglectful father who finally decides to make his son a priority and the step father feeling displaced now the the biological father is around full time felt realistic to issues families can have. The tension between biological and step parents is something that can happen. I was on Andi’s side when she tried set boundaries because the father kept showing up without calling first . I get he wants to see his son but calling his ex-wife before coming over to her house is basic courtesy. It made me think of that movie My Blue Heaven when Joan Cusack expresses frustration over her ex coming over all the time and just letting himself in because it made her feel disrespected. The Sears product placement was hilariously bad on purpose and that was awesome.

I really liked the first Fantastic Beast movie but hated the second. I just think JK isn’t a great screenplay writer. There are things that make no sense and storylines that eat up screen time that end up being pointless. The second was so poorly done I won’t be seeing the next one. Why It’s The Worst

I am reading All I Want For Christmas is the Girl Next Door by Chelsea Bobulski. Teen Graham has been in love with Sarah since they were kids but she’s dating his best friend. One night Graham makes a wish on a star and wakes up in a changed world where he’s dating Sarah. Being with the girl of his dreams isn’t what he imagined and he finds he’s drawn to his coworker Piper.

I think word of mouth will be excellent for this film. It might get a Greatest Showman type growth where the first weekend appeared to be a flop but the following weekends lead it to be a success.

I think he was doing some MLM scam and selling it to fans so he was fired. I might be remembering wrong.

I am half way through Will Smith’s biography Will. I think the audio book is particularly entertaining with Will himself narrating and the inclusion of music at various points. He doesn’t shy away from discussing his family’s dysfunction. His father was abusive and an alcoholic while also being a successful business man. Other rappers judged Will for coming from a financially successful family. His father ran the family like it was the military. His mother highly valued her education and took Will’s decision to fixate on a career in rap instead of college very hard. His father caused a lot of trauma but ended up being the one to come up with the compromise that Will had one year to prove he could make a career as a rapper and if he couldn’t he would go to college for engineering as his mother wanted. Will is famous for his humor and he writes that he associated comedy with safety. Making his father laugh could diffuse dangerous situations. Putting on a humorous performance also helped him get around bullies. Will’s coping mechanism is to be a people pleaser.

The first movie took itself too seriously but the second was so much fun. I hope the third had the vibe of the second one.
