I’m reading If the Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy . It’s the start of a “Meant to Be Series” where authors take a fairytale and twist it into a contemporary romance. I saw that Jasmine Guillory whose books I love was writing one so decided to read book one since I wasn’t sure if they were supposed read in order of if they are all stand alones. I started out enjoying If the Shoe Fits but am starting to lose interest. This take on Cinderella has Cindy the aspiring shoe designer compete on her producer/step mother’s bachelor type of dating show. I feel like I was liking it until the book got deep into the dating competition. I really like that the step mom and sisters aren’t villains. I like Cindy’s opinions on the fashion industry needing to be inclusive about sizing and really felt felt for her when the show’s costume designer had tons of cute options for clothes for the other contestants but just a tent for Cindy. Also I find I don’t care much about the love interest. He’s alternates between being blah or being shady. I’m going to keep going with it. I’m disappointed that after finishing the terrible Ready Player Two that my follow up book isn’t as fun as I was hoping. The conclusion of Ready Player Two was horrifying to me.

That could be a great plot for a romantic comedy. Exs who temporarily move back in together platonically because of an emergency and fall back in love again. I hope it works out for them.

So I have begun Ready Player Two by Ernest Cline. I am 28% through according to my Kindle, and I am frustrated. I am not liking Wade. I sympathize with him at points but he does inappropriate creepy things. He uses his godlike abilities in the Oasis to do stuff like look for people’s personal information, cyberstalk people, and destroy avatars just because they criticize him/his friends. I can’t get past it. He’s the narrator so I don’t get a break from him. Sam’s accusation that they are drug dealers getting high on their own supply nails the situation pretty perfectly. I hate the way Wade treats her concerns about people being addicted to the tech and that at least children shouldn’t have access because they aren’t certain about the long term Neurological effects as eye-roll worthy while he’s well aware he’s very much addicted. Anyway, I really hope it gets better. I wanted to be optimistic despite the poor reviews because I did like the first book.

I have been enjoying Jasmine Guillory’s Wedding Date series. I have been reading While We Were Dating where ad exec Ben is paired with movie star Anna. Ben is the brother of Theo from book 3 The Wedding Party. Ben and Anna start as a fling while they are working together on smartphone campaign. Anna has had some personal setbacks but strives to get further ahead in her career. Would a romance with Ben raise her profile? Would a temporary public romance become something real and lasting? This one is one of my favorites in the series.

A YouTuber made a video about Kanye’s most recent behavior. He just won’t let Kim go. He is not making the situation easier on the kids. Although I agree with him about not wanting his kids on Tiktok I think the way he’s going about it is terrible.

Fanny won me over with her strength and refusal of Crawford. Even with the pressure they put her under by sending her back to her family she won’t be forced to marry. In her own way she was tough.

The movie Return to Me which is one of my favorites was directed by her. She’s always great in her acting roles too

I remember the lead guy in the movie I am Number 4 tanked his career by saying something stupid in an interview and getting a reputation for being difficult. I remember he was in the first Magic Mike and pointedly not asked to return for the second one.

When her movie career bombed and she asked to return to Grey’s Anatomy, I wasn’t surprised they told her no. It must have been humbling for her to try to get back on a show whose writing she disparaged only for them to say “Nope”.

I think her being perceived as a hypocrite for that was part of the issue. In the business side I think she renewed her contract with Grey’s Anatomy but then asked to be released so she could be home with her child then did a bunch of movies without taking time off.

I think the thing that really killed her career was that her movies tanked at the box office. She could have gotten past people being offended by what she said if she had a track record of being a box office money maker. In the end the people on the business side didn’t want to work with her because of what she said and low box office performance and audiences weren’t interested in watching her either. She did have multiple chances with movies and tv shows but never took off.

There was even a scene where CC mocked shows hiding actresses pregnancy specifically referencing using a huge purse and then CC exits carrying a huge purse . On How I Met Your Mother, Lily eating in a hot dog contest was used to reference her pregnancy belly. On Brooklyn 99 they created a storyline where Amy goes undercover as a pregnant inmate. I love when shows find funs ways to handle an actresses pregnancy.

This conversation is making me think of how the media and some fans assumed that when Coach returned to New Girl then Winston would have to leave as if there was some rule about how many black men were allowed. New Girl Cast Recalls Racist Questions About Winston & Coach

I’m halfway through All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. The story interweaves the story of a blind French girl and a german orphan during WW 2. Marie Laure copes with the German occupation of Paris requiring her and her father to leave the only home she has ever known carrying an object that may be as dangerous as it is valuable. Werner’s technical skills give him the opportunity to escape poverty but his education with the Nazi troubles him.

If he wins the Oscar he’ll be the only person to have won pulitzer prize in addition to the EGOT right?

I’m extremely behind in my hallmark watching but I saw Corey Cott on Broadway in the show Bandstand. He’s fantastic. I like Hallmark adding Broadway talent to their casts and now am kinda hoping for a musical. It could be cheesy fun.

My theory as I started watching Scream 2022 was that one of the killers was going to be the son of Stu who was bitter that Billy is the killer who gets remembered with Stu as an afterthought. I was convinced that Tara not being able to remember Stu’s name in the opening sequence was going to be significant.

I’m in the middle of A Night to Surrender by Tessa Dare. This is the first in the Spindle Cove series. I really enjoyed Dare’s Castles Ever After Series. Characters from the Spindle Cove show up at the end of that series which lead me to reading it now. A battle of the sexes begins in this historical romance. Spindle Cove is a town of predominantly women and things get disrupted when Bram the new Earl of Rycliff is charged with forming a militia in town. Susannah resents the changes the militia may bring and Bram sees Susannah as an obstacle to his making a success of the militia. They feel an intense attraction along the way.
