  1. I get the feeling that his mom takes a similar mind frame as a relative of mine who says that she tries to be cordial/nice to her son's serious girlfriends/wives because they might be in charge of her care one day and she DOES NOT want them having grudges to settle when she is too weak to defend herself.
  2. Last night was interesting. I am unsure whether Contessa was knowingly gaslighting Toya or actually didn't remember saying the "intelligent side" comment. The "bitch" comment she made to the other women about Toya makes me think she was gaslighting. This episode also reiterated for me that both Contessa and Toya should stop drinking in theses social situations. They really devolve into embarrassing behavior. Are they trying to backdoor pilot a Married to Medicine, D.C.? The D.C. dentist character was already annoying in just the few minutes of her talking about her high metabolism, hunger and whatever. I agree with Heavenly, you have a snack before going to people's houses so you aren't hangry before they can serve something. How does one earn graduate level degrees and have no idea how to quietly pull a friend to the side and ask for some chips because you are a little peckish? It should be interesting to see them with the Potomac ladies next week.
  3. From what I gather in Buffie's social media, she didn't want to come back. She felt conned because she originally agreed to be a friend and Bravo basically mined an entire season (and more with the replays of scenes during this season) of drama from her uterus without compensating her as a full housewife. I can't imagine signing up for a job outlined as coming to some parties and possibly a trip to end up having my fertility and sanity up for debate so, I get it.
  4. It would have bugged me more if I believed it was a real situation. I do not believe production had no idea the two has been cast members were coming. Heavenly may not have known but, I believe their appearance was orchestrated. Also, how was there room for them on the plane and at the house if there was no preplanning involved? In real life, Toya and Eugene (because he wouldn't have left Toya) would have been standing on the tarmac while I Venmo'd them their flight payment if it was my trip. But, that's not how this show is set up.
  5. I AM NOT a professional and we have limited visibility into everyone's real lives. But, does Dr. Contessa give anyone undiagnosed ADHD vibes? I know it is underdiagnosed in girls and so many are not diagnosed until adulthood; especially if they are able to perform in school. The thought historically has been good grades mean the kids are okay. We know now that's not the case. She seems to have the aspects of hyper focus along with the inability to naturally "pick a one lane" as someone upstream pointed out. These don't have to be liabilities if one knows what to expect and how to design life strategies but they are the type of thing that results frustration and more criticism if those close to you do not know what's happening. Regarding Dr. Scott, it seems he didn't marry the type of woman he says he wants. Dr. Damon for example seems to have impregnated and married Dr. Heavenly before he would know what he was getting completely. Didn't they get together freshman year of college? Dr. Scott and Dr. Contessa seem as if they were both in the army and possibly medical school when they met. Wouldn't there have been indications of her ambition and jack of all trades type of personality at that age? It seems as if they just "fell in love" and decided that was the basis for partnership more than shared interests and visions for the future. I also don't understand the reluctance for talking to a trained, credentialed, licensed professional vs. multiple conversations deriding the relationship with friends and family who are wholly unqualified to help. If someone had a broken arm and said, "Big momma knows what to do." All of these doctors would think that was insane.
  6. My feelings regarding Tinsley are that it's like she escaped from a Tennessee Williams play. She's the last of a dying breed of women. I think of her as the epitome of Ms. Anne's last stand for relevance in American society.
  7. sATL you didn't miss much because of sleep. The explanation just wasn't very complete. Dr's Metcalf are technically General Practitioners and Contessa has an additional qualification in Public Health. I have no idea how those things make Contessa a prime option for addiction recovery. Jackie asked something like "Oh, and how does this tie into the public health specialty?" and the answer was unfulfilling (in my opinion). What I saw was a person with a medical degree trying to resolve their own trauma through taking on patients. When she said "Maybe if my dad had a doctor like me around he would have given up drugs." That alone should have taken her to a therapist's office. The narrative I have spun is that Dr. Scott will see family/wellness clients and Dr. Contessa will see those with addiction problems.
  8. I agree with what Simone (I think) said last night. Contessa does not respect Toya. I don't think she wished Toya true harm but, she does not hold Toya or her perception of Toya's values, achievements or thoughts in high esteem. They are both jerks when they drink alcohol and film so, it kind of becomes a tie for behaving like the bigger asshole based on what's on film. If Contessa would dial down the alcohol and let Toya speak uninterrupted, Toya would dig the grave of immaturity, selfishness and superficiality on her own. Contessa needs to take a lesson from how we see Eugene engage with Toya. She is the type of person who loses steam if the opposition doesn't engage. In addition, I did not enjoy the way Contessa handled the conversation with Jackie last night. Jackie was actually sharing insight and being helpful in ways Contessa specifically asked for but Contessa proceeded to "Yes, uh huh" over everything Jackie said regarding therapy and the relationship. I know it's because Contessa was all over her husband about therapy but then used not having time as the excuse for not going herself. It still bugged me. I know it's early but so far I am not a fan of what I see with Anila. She is a clout chaser in the highest and I believe she will see the version of Toya Contessa does if she ever stops, as my mother would say... "running behind that girl like she is Jesus". I would like Anila to stop trying to produce drama scenes and just let us get to know her in a way that feels more natural.
  9. Now I feel super old. This description of 'influencer' behavior and the catce-22 of the who system is strikingly similar to the way stripper/video girl/Maxim model money was described in the late-90's/early-00's.
  10. Especially parents with covert and communal narcissism traits like Paul and Alicia I understand that this is a sitcom and I enjoy it. That just jumped out at me based on my own background.
  11. Gary Cole's interpretation of this character makes me wish Sherman Hemsley was around so that they could spar. it would be epic. Being considered responsible enough to be trusted as a latchkey kid was an accomplishment for kids at that time. If you were from a generally stable family environment and not expected to like raise your siblings while your parents were at the bar or something, those 2-3 hours time unfettered by adults were a treasure. I get almost the same rush I did being alone in my house now since Covid has basically glued all family members to one another most of the day.
  12. The doubt was only prior to release. Janet (and the other non-Michael Jacksons) had very minor solo hits prior to Control. Once Jimmy & Terry got her in the studio and Paula Abdul harnessed Janet's natural dance talent and Jackson work ethic, it was a wrap. A star was born.
  13. I also see his brother and sister occupying the buffoonery quotient. It would be misguided and difficult to have Bob devolve with those two characters still present.
  14. I also recognize that it is too hard to fleece the Black poors in her church if she empathizes or identifies with them in any way. The only way one can endure Mary's cult running, relations with someone who previously was inside of grandma life is compartmentalization with a couple of doses of dissociation thrown in. There is no way Mary is fully present for most of her life. I am with you on Jen and her definition of authenticity and Heather with the gaslighting.
  15. Even as annoying as some of the other character's actions can be, I cannot imagine a world in which I root for Ronald and Legarski. I also would be shocked if the victims we saw (and possibly his wife next week) are the only people Legarski has murdered when he didn't want to be held accountable for something or was generally pissed off. I'm just glad he is in the fictional, lightly populated town of this universe and not a densely populated or diverse city.
  16. More specifically to me, it helped me explain the experience of a panic attack to my husband. He was speechless seeing me experience one earlier in our marriage and being able to narrate Ted's was extremely helpful to him understanding how they feel and what to do if he is ever in the situation again to witness one.
  17. According to outside sources who are ex-members of Mary's church (the Reddit is referenced on the thread about the first ep, I think), Mary and her step-grandpa disappeared from the church for @ 3yrs. During that time, he would call in and issue marching orders and updates on Mary's alleged condition. She was supposed to be close to death and having life saving surgeries. When Mary made her miraculous return, it was with a different face, thinner body, skin several shades lighter and blond hair (which has been forbidden to other women in the church from the pulpit). Apparently, she nor her husband put very much effort into a plausible explanation for her to use instead of "odor gland" removal. That is just another flag for me that they have an insular, cultish following who don't know or want to know facts. If she thinks that crap with fly with those of us outside of her congregation, it's because she probably surrounds herself with "yes" people who wouldn't think to challenge it. I suspect eventually production will stop letting her lazy lies slide once viewers keep watching and there is enough contradictory footage to give her the shade edit.
  18. I could have his mom confused with the other housewife she looks like who also talked about being born Jewish. I thought both ladies converted during their late teens /early 20's. My issue still stands. Brooke comes off like an entitled brat and I hated the way he spoke to his mother.
  19. Brooks tries to portray worldly, stylish wunderkind. But, he wouldn't make it 10 minutes on his own without supreme Mormon male privilege and his momma's money. I would love to see him with other non-Mormon gen Z'ers his age or in a work setting that is not run by one of his parents, to get a better idea of whether his personality is as insufferable as it appears at first glance.

    S04.E09: East/West

Your story about radiation treatments for acne makes a lot of sense to me because even though I have been in cancer remission for a number of years, I remember observing that my eczema problems cleared during chemo. My oncologist said it was actually common for patients with eczema and psoriasis to experience a lot of improvement after chemo. It's just not something that people talk about much as a treatment because it's too extreme for cases that exist alone.
  21. The girlfriends are a special kind of stupid to be sleeping with dudes who treat them this poorly. I can't imagine being attracted to these baby boys. The guy who is a model might be physically attractive to someone but, him gushing in front of his girlfriend about buying his mom a more expensive gift on the girlfriend's birthday would have gotten him dumped if she wasn't so fixated on a ring before 30. All of these girls will live to regret getting what they want.
  22. My husband and I bet that Shekeb's dad is off doing what he wants while Shekeb is playing husband to his unbearable mom. I think he likes being spoiled and obsessed over + she uses the past cancer to keep him guilty. I wouldn't be surprised if dad has a longtime girlfriend or several dalliances along the years. Kim and Matt: Kim may talk a good game but, this is about power not love for Matt. She wants to stake her claim as new mommy and is swept up in the power fight with mom. In addition, Kim wants the money. She will complain until the cows come home or Matt comes out but in the end she's not giving up a free house, reality stardom and the chance to inherit when mean mommy dies. Kim will hang on until the bitter end and she probably believes the viewers will be on her side.
  23. Part of the reasoning I have heard for Candiace and others being so shocked by the fight is that many just weren't raised in an environment where throwing hands was an option. But, even in an upper middle class, Southern surface nice environment with cotillions and pageants, at the very least Candiace as she behaves on the show, would have been fed an Ex-Lax hot chocolate, had some humiliating rumor about her circulated in school and a Regina George would have eventually called her a racially motivated epitaph and made fun of her weave to her face. I have a very hard time believing this person has never had any extremely negative interactions with girls because of her mouth. If she hasn't, that means she actually has more control over herself than she feigns on the show and just pushes too far to keep the only job I can tell actually pays her.
  24. The best part of this otherwise busted episode was during the role play from hell when Robin picked lint off of Juan's mustache and Juan asked what it was. My husband deadpanned "His girlfriend's pubs." I almost fell off of the couch laughing.
  25. I don't at all believe that Karen's side is the only side of the story. My point was that before anyone takes it to "I might not love you anymore.", that person needs to be clear they are possibly ushering in the end of the current phase of the relationship. Maybe he is already clear and a great actor when he seemed surprised at the negative reaction. I don't know.
