  1. I loved seeing Pia Toscano on the show the day before last, I haven't really seen her booked anywhere else on TV even though she has an album out this week, but maybe she'll show up more places next week. How weird though that you could see Sherri standing off to the side several times as she was singing. A little awkward. I'm glad Loni Love was on the same episode since I recorded the episode, Loni's always great.
  2. I missed the first episode, hopefully they'll rerun it eventually when the show's off for a week or something. I appreciate this show is more of a dramedy. I went into it thinking it would be ultra serious like The Equalizer (which I do enjoy), but was happy it's more lighthearted. Niecy Nash is killing it. I didn't know anything about the rest of the cast, so was pleasantly surprised to see Kevin Zegers! Loved him in TransAmerica back when. I'm glad he's here so I have two actors to keep my attention at least.
  3. I enjoy Brendan Gleeson, but this was a sort of middling episode just like the premiere. Not because of Gleeson at all, imo, although he got through the monologue by the skin of his teeth. A lot of hosts aren't good at the monologue though. For me, the highlight was the new castmember, Molly. She was hilarious.
  4. I agree, Whoopi and Joy are real friends, they've always had each other's backs. It's sweet.
  5. Yes, she seemed very shocked! Normally, I don't really enjoy the birthday celebration episodes, but this one was surprisingly good. Thankfully they gave Joy all the airtime to talk about her trip to Spain, and her and Lithgow were very genuine together. Lithgow's story was hilarious, I'm surprised they didn't bleep him at one point! The sale at the end made me laugh for a lot of reasons, too. Well, I knew immediately Joy would have difficulty getting through everything on time, but it didn't help that Sunny was there derailing everything with "I told you so"'s about the Martha Stewart stuff. But what killed me was the audience actually going up to a $400 for that mug, and I think they only stopped because the show needed to get to another commercial break. I would've wanted the mug myself since it's a little piece of the show's history and everything--I've always thought the little mugs with the co-hosts' drawings were a cute idea, I don't know why they don't still do that--but, jeez... Who would pay that much for a mug? You could probably find one on eBay for cheaper than that. Even Joy was dumbfounded. She made some joke about how rich the audience must be.
  6. So glad Blake is leaving!!! It's beyond time. I hope they pick Carrie Underwood for the country seat after he's left, she's one of those artists with broad appeal even with non-country viewers. I have a feeling she'd take it. Also happy that John Legend won't be on the next season, I'm a little tired of him. Chance the Rapper is a sweetheart, I'm glad he'll be there at the same time as Kelly. Too bad Ariana didn't return though, but Niall should be alright. Next season sounds way better than the current one.
  7. Jedidiah did last more than one season; she started four or five months before the new season in 2016, joined officially the next season, and even signed for the next season after that only to be fired out of nowhere a month into it to make room for McCain. I always thought Alyssa would be the one picked because she's the most similar to Jedidiah. Candace also stayed halfway into her second season. Paula was only out because of Whoopi, and Abby only left because of McCain. McCain was out once her family connection at ABC retired. Nicolle's the only one I know of that was fired because the show for whatever reason didn't think she worked; probably just to completely re-start and leave the bad blood from her season behind is the more likely reason. Alyssa's already guaranteed to be on through to 2025, I believe? At least most articles around the time she was hired said this current panel will be locked through the next presidential election. I imagine the reason Alyssa avoids confrontation is she knows Sunny will simply bring up where she worked to implode most of her talking points, so Alyssa knows she isn't likely to "win" any direct back-and-forths the usual way and is more covert in the way she slides them in there.
  8. I assume she has to be there tomorrow for them to celebrate her birthday at least. Her being off makes me realize how little I care about the rest of them these days. I mean, I don't like Whoopi or Alyssa at all--for wildly different reasons. But even the other three have been getting on my nerves at different times, it seems like there's never any topic where there isn't at least one of the three bugging the hell out of me. They aren't enough for me to endure Whoopi and Alyssa, sorry.
  9. I liked this one more than the premiere. I enjoyed Kat getting some good cracks in at Sheila ("I never said you were a bad driver!"). Best moment was Phil's line about gucci as they were tugging on the purse.
  10. I thought both Huma Abedin and Sunny looked very pretty today. Good to hear Both/And is being turned into a series!
  11. Oh, yes, I forgot it was Joy's birthday. I put the show on in the background this week since she's off, but it's good to know the reason why she's not there. I hope she'll enjoy her birthday!
  12. The best parts of this episode for me were JAJ's McConnell and Armie Hammer, Bowen Yang as the Spotted Lanternfly, and Kenan's Neil deGrasse Tyson. I did wonder where Cecily Strong was, good to know she'll be back to the show eventually! I thought the same thing! I couldn't help thinking they looked similar in the face, especially when he was smiling.
  13. When it would matter most isn't a Shark Tank interview, imo... Leaving that aside, it was a fluff advertisement for an ABC show, the ladies know to be all positivity in those interviews.
  14. Interesting Tamron Hall is on this week because Sunny appeared on her show a week and a half ago. Sunny's comments there were very good. It was 9/22's show for those interested in seeing it; Sunny was there as part of a larger discussion. Looking forward to Abedin and Najimy!
  15. If O'Donnell wasn't on last year during the anniversary year, she's never going to be while Whoopi is there. Same with Perez. It was a fun show today, but I already knew to expect that between it being Friday, and Jones and Cantone on the guest list. Cantone is very, very, VERY OTT, but I don't know, I enjoy the other ladies' reactions to him. I know that's a Party of One opinion, most likely, heh. Lizzo being attacked over that is ridiculous, that's the first I'd even heard about it. I thought she sounded pretty good on the flute from the clip they played?
  16. I've also been watching since the early '00s, and the season where they were remote was when the first segment started being this short. Usually the first segment was around 15 minutes at least, now it's 10 or 8 minutes... The way it was at least allowed them to talk robustly about one topic and then run quickly through a couple of less important ones in the rest of the show. I knew once they changed it, it wouldn't go back the way it was when they returned to the studio. Today's show was forgettable. When they were talking about Biden's gaffe, I liked that they brought up Whoopi accidentally ending the show earlier a few weeks ago. Those kinds of screw ups happen to everyone, and Whoopi is, what, two decades younger than Biden?
  17. Joy had the best response to the topic on Florida, saying the state could have used that 12 million that was wasted on the Martha Vineyard stunt right now. But I agreed with Sara, too, that there was nothing but grandstanding in DeSantis' remarks there about the hurricane, that he's still more focused on boosting himself than protecting Floridians. Loved Sunny's reaction when Alyssa tried to pretend Trump worked with blue states during the pandemic. If looks could kill. That lie of Alyssa's was especially vile considering how many people died, of which Sunny's in-laws were a part...
  18. Joy was exactly on the mark in the first segment when she responded to Alyssa's pretensions by saying that McConnell will blow up the filibuster immediately to push through a federal ban on women's rights. Whoopi was clever in the way she ended the topic... Coming right after Alyssa speaking, her words could've applied to either the topic or to her (or both). 😛
  19. Sunny was pretty much the same during the auditions with Alyssa as she is now. I think Teta assumed he would cast who he wants and things would change once she was cast, but Sunny doesn't work that way... lol I don't really blame her. While ABC may choose to legitimize someone like Alyssa, they can't force the people who work for them to agree with the decision. It's sort of funny when you think about it, Whoopi was in trouble earlier last year for misspeaking, whereas Alyssa's said and stood for much worse things than her before she was ever hired--no matter how she wishes she could disassociate herself from it to advance her career now. Ana hates Alyssa as much as Sunny does. I believe she's made shady comments to and about Alyssa almost every day she's been on this season and last season as well... Sunny is much more direct with her opinions in general, so I'm not surprised she's more in your face with Alyssa rather than simply throwing shade the way Ana does.
  20. I love Leslie Jordan on a normal day, but, man, he was on fire during the interview today. I LOLed at least five different times, from when he was talking about first hearing his own voice on a recorder to the first job he had playing a genie and then recounting stories of his father, I'm glad she gave him three segments. Very sorry to hear his mother and sister passed. :( I liked her on The Voice, but I knew that I was sort of a minority having already been a fan of her prior to the show. I think her personality is sort of an acquired taste and that's why I didn't really think the show would be that good going into it. I was merely tuning in as a fan of her as an artist, but I thought it would end up being a mess. I've been very pleasantly surprised! She's much better when telling stories and talking with the audience than I expected--now I'm just wondering if that'll last or if she might run out of interesting stories after a while--and she tries not to draw attention away from the guests in the interviews. I actually think she's been bringing out the best in the guests, tbh, between Viola Davis, Orji, Jordan, and the Bachelor guy yesterday.
  21. From what I heard, Sunny didn't say Alyssa was complicit with heat though, she just said it more like it was a fact...which it is, imo. I thought she was being deferential to Ana by acknowledging that she and Alyssa aren't the same, Alyssa is much worse in what she's contributed. Alyssa's not going to leave, she's probably grateful to have got this job considering her resumé... And who would care if Alyssa left anyway. The show's ratings were fine last season so the hiring of a fifth co-host always felt sort of pointless. Besides, the show's worse for having Joy off to make room for Alyssa, if we're being honest. I don't think it's a smart business decision to make the first show of the week the most dull show of the week... I wouldn't be surprised if that ends up hurting them in the ratings over time.
  22. I'm keeping the show on in the background instead of giving it my full attention, but I believe Alyssa ended up proving herself wrong by bringing up the fact that Bernie Sanders wasn't nominated in response to Sunny in the first segment, lol... Extremism having infected one side but not the other is sort of the whole topic here, the reason Liz Cheney was saying she'll defect if Trump is the nominee again. But I guess when you're in the spot of trying to think of anything to say to deflect from things that are pretty cut and dry, you don't often end up making sense.
  23. I agreed with Joy today, the same sentiment behind the treatment of women in places like Iran is being aimed at women here, just in a different stage. And Sara had the best reaction today when she said she wants "no part in that kind of 'morality.'" Joy had several hilarious moments while moderating. The first was when she was reading the prompter's "So Jared Kushner's been soul-searching," then adlibbed with the "We'll let you know if he finds anything," lol. Then the beginning of the Gwyneth Paltrow where she's listing regrets Paltrow had talked about and then threw in naming her child Apple at the end. 🤣
  24. It was a cheap shot, but not an inaccurate one. IMO, Sunny was right in her assessment that Nikki Haley is angling herself towards a crowd she's calculated won't accept her as a woman of color--or as a woman, period, really. Both Sunny's point Monday and Whoopi's today were similar to me, as far as referring to Haley and Graham as sell-outs who choose to eat their own, although Sunny was much more annoying when she was making her point whereas Whoopi did it in a humorous way.
  25. I don't think there was anything wrong with what Whoopi said. I don't think there was much of anything wrong with what Sunny said either for that matter, tbh, I only just finished the end of yesterday's episode. I suppose because they bored me during Hot Topics, I never finished the episode past the Eichner interview. The Tyson interview was pretty fun, particularly the "We're all going to die!" bit.
