  1. I think people are making too much of the European women's refusal to concede the putt. Was it a jerk move? Yes. However, I can remember the Americans doing something similar years ago. Actually, the American duo conceded the European's putt and the American captain overruled them, forcing the putt. While some were upset, the Americans wrapped themselves in the rules. Now the shoe is on the other foot and they want to talk about sportsmanship? (To be fair, I am older so this may have happened before any of these women were even paying attention to the game.)
  2. This classic song has the worst lyrics, but the tune is beautiful. Unfortunately, even as I enjoy the instrumental the words are running through my head: my funny valentine, Sweet comic valentine, You make me smile with my heart. Your looks are laughable, un-photographable, Yet, you're my favorite work of art. Is your figure less than Greek? Is your mouth a little weak? When you open it to speak, are you smart? But, don't change a hair for me. Not if you care for me. Stay little valentine, stay! Each day is Valentine's Day. I'd highlight the offending lines, but they are all awful!! My husband plays the trumpet, and he knows never to serenade me with this one. Not in public. Not if he wants to live. But, man, the tune is gorgeous!
  3. That bugs me as well, and my nitpick is that her child never ages. I guess she managed to do all that work and travel and create a new, amazingly successful business in mere months. Considering how much children grow that first year, it might only have been weeks.

    The Intern (2015)

The trailer seems to suggest Renee Russo as his love interest. I hope Anne's character is in a happy marriage. I can't imagine anyone would think putting them together romantically is a good idea. But Hollywood is the land of imagination.
  5. Have you seen the bloopers for this scene? They barely made it through once without losing it. So funny!
  6. One of the local stations ran Western reruns on Saturday mornings when I was a child. I loved Big Valley and Maverick, but my all-time favorite was The Rifleman. That was my favorite father-son relationship!
  7. I stumbled across the movie Stepmom a few years ago. Susan Sarandon plays a divorced mom who finds out she is dying and has to deal with her children being raised by Julia Roberts' character, her ex-husband's fiancee. There is this big emotional moment when Julia's character tells Susan's character that her biggest fear is that on the daughter's wedding day after she helps her get ready, the daughter is only going to be thinking about Susan's character. Say WHAT?!?! How horribly selfish can you be? "Hey, dying mom, you know those kids you love more than life and now have to leave? Can you imagine how hard it will be for me if they remember you on their special days? I mean, how am I supposed to cope after you die if they still love you and want to talk about you?" They showed it as some bonding moment between the two. I'd have belted her, banking on the fact that no jury would convict me. To quote this thread, "Oh HELL no!"
  8. My personal opinion is that if you can make it through Keira Knightly's version, you can get through Olivier's take of it. They are equally offending IMO.
  9. I mentioned earlier watching and loving Executive Suite and now I am working out to the original A Star is Born . Fredric March is one of those actors I always love, but never remember. Like I forgot he was Matthew Brady in Inherit the Wind until I looked up his bio, but every time I watch that movie I exclaim how good the actor is! Well, this is the first time I've seen this version of Star, but I won't forget him again. I am late to the party, I know, but he is now on my radar as a favorite actor!

When you completely screw things up so badly that the public is complaining loudly and you need to stop the bleeding, whom do you turn to for damage control? http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/55e99177e4b093be51bb2674 The pictures are adorable!
  11. Totally agree, Spartan Girl. I thought it was so unfair of her to make her husband talk with Tom's character. Unfair to both of the men. Suck it up, lady, and be a grown-up. As my mother would say, she embodies "the insensitivity of sensitive people."
  12. I ended up watching The Delivery Man, a British comedy on Netflix. I think the lead is especially good, and the show is fluffy fun. It is set in a maternity ward, and the lead is a policeman who left the force to become a midwife. Not a bad way to spend 20 minutes.
  13. Cinemark started selling refill buckets for popcorn and drinks. We buy them in January, and you can refill them for $3.50 each all year. The drink is huge and the popcorn is bigger than a medium so they're easy to split. In the summer when they run $1 movies for the kids, they get a workout!
  14. Just finished watching Executive Suite for the umpteenth time. Love that movie. While it's a little dated, his speech at the end still rings true today. And Barbara Stanwyck is awesome in everything!
  15. Lost wages? What job did she lose because of her burn? Why do I think I am going to start seeing signs that hot stoves are hot as a result of this?
  16. I seriously dislike Breakfast at Tiffany's, and I forgot Mickey Rooney was even in it! Were we supposed to like any of the characters? I saw it over 20 years ago, and I still want my two hours back.

    S05.E10: Faith

Wow, lifelong Catholic who unfortunately has attended more funerals than I can count, and I have never seen any color other than white, and the priests I am friends with always mention that they wear white to signify the resurrection. Thanks, Scott, I learned something new today. Catscout, that bothered me, too. At first I assumed Mike wasn't Catholic because the priest wasn't dressed correctly.
  18. He does, Trini. He started as a child actor in musicals and does at least a dance move in every movie in homage to those days.

I liked the priest who never aged. Nitpick-they don't wear purple vestments to celebrate a funeral. He should have been in white ones. Mike really takes self-pity to a whole new level.

Mike with the teenage hairstyle may have been the funniest thing I have seen in a long time. Please tell me there are outtakes somewhere that make fun of him!
  21. Just watched Three Comrades this morning and enjoyed it. I love that the romance was peripheral to the love shared among the three friends. Nice way to spend some time.

The more I hear from Donna these days, the more I wanted the therapist (1) to tell Donna she must have huge issues to feel the need to be this arrogant to strangers and (2) to tell Harvey he dodged a bullet with that girl and to let Louis have her. Instead, she too has to bow down to the awesomeness that is Donna. Here's a clue, show: Donna's not that awesome. Gretchen, on the other hand, . . .
  23. I always loved Kathy Bates' comment in an interview about "Frankie and Johnny." When talking about being passed over for Michelle Pfeiffer, she said if there had been any part she would have expected to beat the beautiful Pfeiifer for, it was this one since Frankie was supposed to be unattractive and heavy-set.
  24. Well crap. Not that Casey is alive (like that was in doubt), but all the rest of it.
  25. Blue Castle is my favorite after AoGG!
