I remember that and thought the same thing. I actually tended to give them the benefit of the doubt from way back when Mary Lou won Olympic gold and Don Peters seemed to spend the meet pretending he was the one coaching her to glory. Who knew both coaches were really scum?

I should have been more clear that I wasn’t equating the injuries, but instead was critiquing those who claim Simone should no longer be allowed to compete because she withdrew from the team event. This isn’t a “she bailed on the team and shouldn’t be allowed back” situation. What is happening to her is much worse, and I am grateful she knew herself well enough to stop.

To me it’s no different than if Simone had sprained her ankle, had to withdraw from the team round, and will be evaluated daily to see when/if it is healed enough to continue. I am so glad we are becoming better informed about mental health these days.
  4. I find that I listen to the backstory of an athlete and realize no one in my family would ever make it to the Olympics because my parents wouldn’t have let me obsess like that, and I don’t let my children do so either. I remember a Winter Olympics for the fancy ski jumps and they explained the gold medalist used to jump off the roof of his childhood home and his parents just set out a mattress. If that story were on a police report, we wouldn’t hear the reporter describe the parents as “supportive.” But I do love the Olympics.

I don’t know that they have to change Slider.
  6. This is the judge who married them so they both knew him prior to the custody issue. I side eye her late term objection that she only knew he had some dealings, but not every detail of such dealings. I think she is attempting to delay until their children are too old to be covered under any custody agreement. Then again, maybe he is a monster who was able to fool the FBI and social services. Again, therapy and lots of it for those kids.

Someone posted this on Facebook, and it now makes Guardians my favorite name ever! It’s not #WINDIANS it’s #WINGUARDIANS LEVIOSA
  8. I agree, merylinkid. I hope their kids are still seeing those counselors.

I was rooting for the Cleveland Rapids (nod to Bob Feller). I’m going to have to think about the Guardians for awhile; my initial reaction is a firm meh.
  11. I haven’t been able to look past the rocket to see Jeff’s cowboy hat. Talk about overcompensating.
  12. Why was he not arrested?!? That went beyond bullying to assault, and his apology is worthless. “Bully” is too nice a word for what he did.
  13. I haven’t seen it yet, but did they really try to equate “my wife had a baby and I am tired” with “I physically damaged my hand and had to relearn how to use a piping bag”?!?!?
  14. I’m confused why Sophie has taken over as boss. She has been out of the game for years while Parker has been leading a twelve team global conglomerate. I need more explanation why Parker seems to have abdicated her role. She had one “you’re not the boss of me” quip to Sophie, but otherwise has reverted back too far for my taste.
  15. Good Night and Good Luck should have taken every Oscar.
  16. Is it wrong of me to hope Mel is carrying Mark’s baby? It’s probably a bad sign that the dead man is my favorite character.
  17. I assume Hardison has created all the binders as training manuals for the other teams they run, which is a bit of a sticking point for me in this episode. If they got so flummoxed by their Russian mob snag that the only idea came from the newbie, then I don’t buy their ability to run all the teams. Nate could have, but not them. I didn’t really enjoy this one.
  18. Upon further reflection, I find it inconceivable that Nate isn’t buried with his son.
  19. My possibly UO is that I don’t care enough about Hilaria to be outraged that she calls herself Spanish. If she picked a cultural identity that is typically persecuted or has a history of oppression, I would be furious. If she were conning people out of money, I’d be livid. In this case, she reminds me of Madonna affecting a British accent when she was with Guy Ritchie. I can’t summon more emotion than a sigh and eye roll.
  20. Does she have books or a business that somehow relies on her being Spanish? It seems like such a stupid scam with no real payoff.
  21. Nate was my favorite character so I struggled, but loved it! Noah’s accent sure disappeared quickly. I hope they don’t feel the need to emphasize Harry’s NOLA background because Noah isn’t good enough to sell it. Harry seems interesting at least. I loved Hardison’s speech at the end the best. Harry actually lost me a little when he thought finding some people to payoff was good enough. My PSA: not all lawyers are sleazy and need redemption.
  22. I used to love Nora Roberts for the witty banter between her characters, but I finally had to stop cold turkey when one of her romance novels had an erotically-charged passage describing the rape and murder of a young woman told from the POV of the criminal. At that point I just decided I could find better things to read in my spare time.
  23. We are rewatching the show, and our 17 year old son has wandered in and out. He finds the show hilarious and adds color commentary that continually makes us chuckle. My favorite is the scene in which Daisy comes back early from the farm with a basket of food and a flask of cider for Alfred so they can part as friends. She tells Alfred she wishes him well, and my son quietly adds, “but I put poison in the cider so good luck to you.” Watching Daisy and imagining a psychotic edge to her adds a new layer to the show!
  24. In one transition workshop I attended for my kids with special needs, guardianship came up. They kept stressing to the kids and parents that a guardian could not tell the ward whom they could see or date nor whether or not they could have sex. Then one woman in the audience mentioned that even with everyone agreeing that she no longer needed a guardian, it had been two years of court proceedings and it still hadn’t been terminated. Reform is needed.
