  1. Qoass, I totally remember that interview. Bryant asked the kids about their favorite characters and one little boy said, "Darth Vader." Bryant was surprised and asked why, and he said, "Because he saves Luke in the end." Bryant's expression was priceless as he gently said to the boy, "Uh oh, I don't think we were supposed to say that." I was surprised Bryant hadn't already seen the movie to know not to ask a follow up! I had hoped I would forget the spoiler, but my sister came in and said we were seeing the movie that afternoon. Now I find I actually like to know the ending ahead of time, especially in action movies. I have a very low tolerance for people being mean to other people and for scary stuff so I like knowing when to close my eyes or leave the theater for a concession or restroom run.
  2. I actually do find Benedict attractive in motion, but I might just be reacting to his voice. It covers a multitude of sins.
  3. That was my problem with the book, and I had hoped they would fix it for the movie. She married Tony. If they had just been engaged, I could have maybe accepted her growing relationship with Jim. But she was married so I lost all respect for her dithering. And then she gets blackmailed? The book was so good and just jumped the shark; I am disappointed the movie was so faithful.

Regarding the refs, I always tell my boys that they can only complain about a blown call when their team played perfectly. So they know that once "I can't believe the ref missed that" leaves their lips, it better be followed by all the ways their team could have played better, too.

The other commercial I liked was a ref waving his arms as he explained, "Yes, we know we blew the last call. We will be making it up in the next quarter by blowing a comparable call for the other team."
  6. I thought they were clear at the beginning that they just didn't like each other. From the other ADA's defensiveness and repetition that Erin would have tried the case the same way, I assumed this wasn't the first time Erin had to clean up after her.
  7. But wasn't it Sheldon who came up with the story idea to help Howard in the first place?
  8. I wonder if that's why I could never get into the Emily series. As much as I love Anne, I kept trying and trying to read Emily and always ended up putting it down. I never really could explain why I didn't like it. I may have to go back and try again.
  9. The Bonanza boys had the same problem with their wives/girlfriends.
  10. The end of Awakenings had me sobbing like I have never cried before. I still tear up just thinking about Robert DeNiro's character as the drug stopped working.
  11. I didn't have a problem with Gabby asking Riddle if he asks male firefighters about their emotional state when they come off medical leave, but when they all thought he was being a jerk by bringing up the baby? Umm, what did they think he would ask about?
  12. I forgot about her, Spartan Girl! If I remember correctly, then she blames her young daughter for making a judgment call and lays all her problems at the daughter's feet. I don't recall liking that book very much.

    Everest (2015)

Was Makalu Gau in the movie? She was the person Beck said should be taken by the helicopter first. It is really too bad if they left that moment out because it was an incredible show of character and strength.

Did they show both helicopter rescues in the movie? Beck may have been arrogant and brash, but he won me over when his family paid for the helicopter, found a pilot crazy enough to try a rescue with the understanding there might be only one try, and he gave the first spot to the other victim. I remember an interview and he was the most humble when he was asked about being asked to let the other person go first. He choked up a little and said, "You want to live, but you want to live with honor". I can deal with brashness if that is his core character. I recall thinking he was pretty harsh on himself in his own book.
  15. Is that unpopular, SmithW? To continue on that theme, I want her to stop telling me what she wishes she could change now. The books are now canon for me. Telling me Ron and Hermione should never have been a couple just makes me mad, and I am not a shipper. The books are published; stop tinkering.

It didn't bode well for Cleveland at halftime when both coaches had the same plan to keep Manziel in the pocket. When your plan mirrors your opponent's plan for you, it is probably time to rethink.
  17. I like the idea of the candidate having a large connected family. We all know someone who knows everyone, and you can't mention anything without their saying, "My cousin is head of that!" or "My dad's college roommate built that place!" Chicago seems to be a place that is all about connections; it could be fun. When Gabby and Casey got back together I made hubby acknowledge the order- he declared his love and then she said she was pregnant. I told him we were guaranteed to have her screw it up. This episode she says, "We only got back together because of the baby." I paused it to gloat. So in one week she solved a serial arsonist case and exposed corruption in the department. Maybe on her lunch hour she can fly to DC and end the national debt. If she has an extra 15 minutes, solve world hunger. I think Gabby is wasted at the station.
  18. Loved his reaction to her high-five!! Made the show for me.
  19. I didn't say Mary and the family were ruined. What I said was, "How our family wasn't ruined I do not know." Mary was shunned. Evelyn came to see her and tell her Edith started the rumor because she was being shunned and didn't know why. She didn't have lots of suitors then. Sir Richard popped up, and he wanted her status and used the story to his advantage. The only reason it didn't make the papers was because he bought the exclusive rights and refused to publish it. That is the only reason it died down. Anyway, the question I was answering was how Mary could mention the Pamuk incident and make Edith look bad without outing her own involvement. That is the purpose of the conversation I wrote. Mary could totally spin it as it doesn't matter whether the story is true, Edith spread it around with no regard for the consequences. And if people want to say Edith was right to do so and Mary shouldn't have slept with Pamuk so she started it all and deserved the censure, then don't come back calling Mary a bitch if she tells Bertie about Marigold because Mary certainly didn't make Edith sleep with Michael. I would still prefer that Bertie be kept out of all of it and the fight stay between Edith and Mary with both realizing how awful they have been over the years.
  20. From season 6 episode 6 thread: My idea for the conversation: Bertie and Mary in the library Bertie: Now that I am Marquess and Edith is to be my wife, I will not tolerate the manner in which you treat her. Your unprovoked insults and attacks will stop. Mary: I suggest that you do not insert yourself in situations beyond your understanding. Bertie: She is to be my wife and marchioness. This concerns me. She is an innocent victim of your bitterness and I will not stand for it. Mary: Innocent? I assure you. She is not. Bertie: There is nothing she could have done to warrant . . . Mary: Nothing? Many years ago, before I was married, a young man named Pamuk came to spend the weekend at Downton. He unfortunately died here. Soon thereafter I found myself being shunned by London society. You might have heard the rumors; it was the talk in all the London circles: "Mr. Pamuk died in Lady Mary's bed." How our family wasn't ruined I do not know. But what I do know is that the scandal began when your precious Edith wrote a letter to the Turkish ambassador regarding Pamuk's death. She promoted the story and made sure I felt its sting. (Now I don't particularly think Bertie would ask this, but let's play Bertie): Was it true? Mary: Does it matter? Should a woman's duty be to publicize her sister's unfortunate choices and leave her to be torn to shreds by society's judgments? Edith enters Edith: Oh there you are, Bertie. With Mary? What could you two possibly be discussing? Mary: Your fiancé and I were discussing a moral issue. If one sister is believed to have sinned, should the other sister be required to publicize those misdeeds to protect society from her lack of virtue? You thought so years ago; I wonder if age and experience have caused you to change your mind. Bertie, have you decided your answer? We are anxious to hear your thoughts on the matter. Aren't we, Edith?
  21. Frankly, she doesn't have to say anything about Marigold. Edith outed Mary to the Turkish ambassador! I would think Bertie would shut up after that story. This is why I want their fight to be private and end with both owning their roles in this toxic relationship. I will be seriously annoyed if Mary is treated as the only villain.
  22. Or a wider board? Hubby and I talked about how dumb that was. And calling Casey instead of 911. And Gabby not having protected her files (which hubby thinks were in the female colleague's briefcase). No one looked too bright this episode. So Gabby is going to solve a serial arsonist case and root out corruption in the arson department? Impressive first week. She is a regular Nancy Drew.
  23. If one of my sisters tried to ruin my life and our entire family by writing a letter to the Turkish embassy about my most traumatic event, I am probably going to be rude to her regardless of whether things eventually worked out for me. Especially if said sister justified herself by calling me a slut and then started sleeping with a married man. Should Mary stop? Yes, and I find those comments tedious and boring. But if I were Mary and sister's boyfriend decided to set me straight, I might be willing to share our whole history. Edith is not an innocent victim in their relationship.
  24. I really wish the Mary/Edith scene will be both of them owning up to why they have such a crappy relationship and make some sort of peace with Mary suggesting that Edith tell Bertie about Marigold, not because it will risk her relationship, but because the ones they love deserve to know the truth just like Mary told Matthew about Pamuk. What I fear (which means it will play out this way) is that the whole show is retconned so that Mary does all the apologizing because Edith is an innocent victim in everything bad that has ever happened to her.
