Snark Talk: Home, Home on the (De) Ranged
jcbrown replied to film noire's topic in The Pioneer Woman
I requested the forum and I agree the titles were meh. I panicked and could not come up with anything. Please add your better $0.02! -
More than one problem, I would say. I would actually wear those pants Margarita made. I am not built anywhere like her model so I would look very different in them but the magpie I evidently was in a former life really liked them. That said, I thought the entirety of her collection, at least on the hanger, looked like a clown car exploded. Please pull it together, Kentaro!

Iron Chef Showdown: Iron Chef Meets Beat Bobby Flay
jcbrown replied to Skyfall's topic in Iron Chef America [V]
I liked it, too, though seeing John Besh as a judge jarred me a bit. I've always admired him until the recent revelations of sexual harassment came out. -
Mods, can we please have a Christmas Cookie Challenge thread so I can complain about rodent-faced incompetent Red Drummond ?

I was a -13.00 and a - 12.75 for more than 40 years until my cataract surgery (so too nearsighted for LASIK). I got contacts when I was 19 but could not wear them all the time, it never would have occurred to me to remove my glasses for photos, and I am offended at the suggestion. My vision was so bad that I was blind without them. Sorry if it bothers your perfect fake vision of your photos, Bridezilla (not aimed at anyone specific here). I think this is a slippery slope and absolutely see it as akin to asking someone to get up out of their wheelchair or put down their crutches for pictures. Your photos should be about the people you love as those people exist, and if they need assistive devices to see, hear, walk, whatever, you suck it up and love them as they are. Sorry for the OT but this gets on my very last nerve.

I figured out which house the SD couple bought when they did not complain about the place that looked like a crayon box exploded in almost every room. They were pretty nice, though, and didn't complain about stupid stuff the way so many on this show do.

She got glasses years ago but rarely wears them for some reason (probably because she was led to believe they detract from her "countenance," which makes me stabby). I thought they were fine and was happy to see her actually wanting to be able to see, for once. (I was also mocked for my glasses when I was young so I am a bit sensitive on this topic.)

Watching last night's episode and have to post that people who pronounce mutton as ,"mu'un" get on my last nerve. I know it's regional but it still annoys me. I used to work with a woman who referred to the closure on her clothes as bu'uns and that drove me a bit nuts, too. It's called a consonant, people!

The Halloween episode today was kind of a mess but I always enjoy watching them crack each other up. It did reinforce that there is one skill set for hosting the show and another one altogether for acting and the latter is not prominent in any of them. Still fun, though.

Guy's Grocery Games - General Discussion
jcbrown replied to David T. Cole's topic in Guy's Grocery Games
Tossing dough isn't so hard once you get the hang of it. I worked pizza in college. We taught newbies how to toss the dough using a moist wrung-out dishtowel. That allows you to practice the technique with no risk of ruining dough. I was underwhelmed by the ending of the pizza episode. I was very glad when the Brooklyn stereotype guy went home after the second round. He may be perfectly nice but his schtick set my teeth on edge. -

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

It's possible I need more to do but I was thinking about the Duggars yesterday. I am so glad that Josh and Anna did not get married in the era when TLC was paying for extravagant honeymoons. As I recall, they went to Florida or something and stayed in an aquarium one night but I am so glad they did not get a free trip to Europe or Australia. The last thing Chester the Molester needed was another validation of his terrible choices, and I think he would totally have read a fabulous trip as that. -
I had this on as background noise this morning. Jeff was making a pizza with ricotta, mozzarella, and butternut squash pieces arranged to look like a Jack o'lantern. As he spread the toppings, he kept advising us to keep a "parameter" around the outside. He said it more than once. I don't think that word means what you think it means, Jeff.

"Super Colon Blow," in fact. It is evocative of that, however. :-)

I meant to post this, too, but the episode lulled me into a coma and I forgot. WTH? Why do they need such a hoard of disorganized crap? The disorganized part ensures they will never be able to use it for anything unless they get lucky and the thing they are looking for is on top. Boob the hoarder. No wonder they had to have that giant yard sale of useless on a previous episode.

Not to take us into silly territory but I remembered during dinner that I had a Duggar dream last night. I was at the compound (or a dream version thereof) and the kids and a few adults were preparing to go to dinner--all the minor Duggars plus grandkids and their parents plus not sure who else. I was talking to JD and asking if e was not coming to dinner and he asked why he would want to go out to eat with eleventy seven kids. Then he kissed me (inexpertly and almost missing my mouth) and said he would come to the restaurant later. I woke up thinking, WTF? I am spending too much time on these boards, clearly.

I know the Salvation Army is good at allocating their money to charitable pursuits but the organization is anti-LGBTQ and that, I cannot support so I will not donate to them. Just a comment. YMMV.

Yes. That, too. Terrible sponsor choice.

I will be glad when their Disney commercials episodes are over. The relentless Disney promotion is dull and I don't feel the team is as good when they are forced to be out of their element and schilling for Disney.

Kamala Harris (CA senator) recommended this site: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/kh_wildfire. They split the money between the Redwood Empire Food Bank and Napa Valley Community Disaster Relief Fund.

I was half-paying attention to one today, "...and a phantom." I tuned in late but was in time to see one bride who was way too devoted to spray-tan and ate like a toddler, one whose husband showed up with her at the reception in a Phantom of the Opera mask and carried her in, and one who supposedly had an angel theme. Her reception lost power but not until she had featured little people dressed up as cupids. I think that wedding may top any others I can think of for insensitivity.

I'm always glad when Anne loses. Agree with the post upthread that a random chicken and zucchini dish to which the cook has no connection will never win over someone cooking from their culture.

Forgot to add that I loved it when Will was passing out party hats to everyone, including the crew. I think he has a lot of potential; he just has to grow (and be directed) into it. He definitely seems to have a big heart.
