  1. Is Paxton not coming back? His storyline and evolution is the most complete amongst the characters. I actually enjoyed this season quite a bit but the ending turned me off. I am NOT a fan of Devi pairing up with Ben. I hope this is brief. Also, what happened to Aneesa? I am loving Kamala and Manish. I need to see how Nirmala interacting with Manish’s westernized parents as they visit for the wedding (I am manifesting it).
  2. As a Canadian, I never quite understand why so many American kids are soooooo focused on one school, whether it is Devi and Princeton or Ben and Columbia. If Ben did not get accepted into Columbia but got into Yale, he would consider himself a failure? This is fiction and all, but I have to think it’s an exaggerated version of some type of reality since it’s a pretty common plot line.
  3. I loved Suzanne. The father has to be Martin Lawrence! While I wished there were more independent storylines for Suzanne, Stanley and Billy, I liked them nonetheless and the actors did their best to add nuance to their roles. I foresee the future doctor treating Stanley to be a romantic interest, just not sure for which character. I liked that it was not slap sticky. It had a pleasant undercurrent, which may not be really exciting but felt warm to me. I liked any scenes where they all just hung out and made jokes. Who still gets paycheques? Especially upper class people like these folks.
  4. I liked it too! The main couple was adorable. The movie did peak too early, I think we needed to see them attend more weddings during the season. The last third slowed things down.
  5. The biggest shocker of the entire series was seeing a screenshot of 3 DAYS LATER. Actual days passing is the biggest plot twist of the show.
  6. As most of the Holiday movies are filmed in the spring and summer, I could see a Christmas in July movie being about a crew making a Christmas movie in the middle of July, and the headaches that entail. One of the leads is a real Scrooge but learns the meaning of Christmas while working with their costar, blah blah.
  7. Yes, the show has a large enough back catalogue of dislikable characters who can return to the season. I can see Billy’s dad coming back and wrecking havoc on Max’s recovery.
  8. I want: - all of the parents, especially Karen, to get more involved in the inevitable battle. This is where Joyce and Hopper can play a bigger role. - my late 80s touchstones being referenced: Milli Vanilli, Def Leppard, B-52s, the use of Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” would be so iconic - a better haircut for Will - Joyce going all Melanie Griffith from The Working Girl or Diane Keaton from Baby Boom, opening her own business or running for Mayor - Heathers reference!!!! It’s time, hire Christian Slater as the main villain for season five - Argyle, Steve, Jonathan and Robin working at a music store that sells something called Compact Discs.
  9. I don’t need main characters to die for the sake of upping the stakes so I am okay with Max not being truly dead. There is a good chance that Max’s near death experience will have repercussions, unlike Hopper’s. It is annoying how quickly the characters separated AGAIN after reuniting for a few minutes. I can buy Steve and Robin going to the school to deliver donations, but Dustin would not be with Mike, Will and Eleven to see Max and Lucas? Interesting how literally just a few seconds of screen time had the “Do you want a tax receipt” girl on me. I would prefer her as Robin’s love interest over the bandmate.
  10. The actor who plays Lucas was excellent. I got quite emotional, even though I felt some plots and characters useless. Mike, Will and Jonathan did virtually nothing this episode. Mike hating pineapple on pizza is one of the few times I liked him. Erica getting tackled by a white high school Senior was the most triggering. They spent way too much team on them. With next season being the last, I hope the cast stays together through the entire season.
  11. I was impressed by Two Tickets to Paradise as well. The actors had good chemistry and Ashley Williams did a good job of handling the humour and sadness of her situation (when she tones down on the hamming, she can be quite compelling). The other couple and the hotel hostess were strong supporting characters.
  12. Riverdale will have its final season next year, I wonder how the cast will fare. The people of Dawsons Creek continue to work. Lili Reinhardt seems to have the most going for her, but I think Cole Sprouse will have at least one big hit at some point in his career, whether on film or tv. He was able to navigate a career after his child star days, so he should be able to do so here. I wonder if anyone has a Michelle Williams type of career in them.
  13. I thought while Randall had more scenes these last two episodes, his character had been sidelined for much of the season. Kate had almost 3 straight episodes focused on the demise of her marriage. Kevin had his own episode with Sophie. I was expecting Randall to get his own episode but that didn’t happen. In terms of spin-offs, I think a show about Deja, Tess and Annie would work. Start the show with Annie off to college so you don’t need Beth and Randall at all, really. With visits from their cousins. Sometimes spin-offs occur with very tangential characters like Mork on Happy Days. I think a series following the Vietnamese woman whose son was killed by Nicky would work really well. She moves to the US where she tries to start a new life and family, but her deep sadness is passed on to her children.
  14. Yes, it’s still number 2 here in Canada due to Stranger Things and it’s been weeks. That is impressive. Kinda like Virgin River in its quiet popularity, although this show probably has a higher budget.
  15. I disagree. Mandy has been exceptional. No one will convince me that better acting exists on those “prestige” tv series.
  16. Rachel is from a single mom middle class environment (her mom worked hard as a realtor). She is the audience’s guide to this world. I agree, the general plot is fairly standard. What makes the movie (and the first book) work is the specificity.
  17. I liked an observation from somewhere else (YouTube of all places) that Rebecca’s burdens she carried all of her life were the secret of William she withheld from Jack and Randall, and the loss of Kyle. So that is why William and Dr. K had the most prominent parts in The Train. Miguel actually had the next longest scene with Rebecca, even if Jack’s was the more impactful. I don’t count Beth or Annie, it was just another way of showing Rebecca hearing what the people were saying to her during their goodbyes.
  18. Deja is in the Train, sitting next to Tess looking at the photo album. Toby is there with Baby Jack (no Hailey). Teen Sophie is there with Teen Kevin. I thought the entire train sequence was beautiful. I think the mention of Kyle was enough, not sure a visual representation would have worked. I would like to know the intention of having all versions of Randall and Kevin, but only the young version of Kate (Teen Kate is my favourite young person amongst all of the iterations). Any ideas?
  19. I thought the guy at the end was Trevor too, because they had similar hair styles colouring. I thought it was a pretty good series, even though I don’t watch legal shows, but the cast is so appealing (also, Mickey looks good in a suit). I wish the Prosecution was seen as less incompetent. The series made mention of Twitter and public approval, but there would have been some Reddit Sleuth who could have picked up that police car or that drone. I liked that the teenaged girl acted like a teenager, not a total brat or some know-it-all beyond her years. I also liked how they captured Los Angeles.
  20. The only actor I don’t quite understand the need for an exclusivity contract is Brennan Elliott. I find him so blah. The interview is interesting when the executive mentioned regardless of the specific network or streaming service that a movie is on, they are often referred to as Hallmark movies. As a Canadian who watches these films on the W Netflix, that is what I do.
  21. You see the writers playing with the concept of people being right for each other at a specific time, Rebecca/Miguel, Kate/Phillip, Kevin/Sophie. I can understand why the kids would not be enthusiastic about their mom falling in love with their dad’s best friend, but I find it interesting how tolerant Miguel was of their slow burn animosity. Miguel never really pushed to be their bff or second father (probably because he tried when they were younger and it didn’t work out). And he knows his own failings as a dad. But he saw a new role as a second husband and as a grandfather to Tess and Annie.
  22. I don’t watch the show but McDreamy is dead, are fans of Meredith/McDreamy okay, even enthusiastic, about any of Meredith’s later romantic partners?
  23. After the most recent episode of This is Us and its focus on Miguel, I am wondering if there’s been a show that has successfully had audiences be okay with a character falling with more than one character (where they can ship both couples)? Daytime soaps not included for obvious reasons.
  24. Gutted. I wished they could have given them a final season with kids I’m their senior year.
  25. I am rewatching the episode where Shelly and Miguel tell Jack and Rebecca they were divorcing. They said all of the “This is amicable, we are still friends, we will co-parent” platitudes, but they didn’t really mean it. The next scene involved Rebecca and Jack in their bathroom, where Jack did not understand why they were divorcing. Rebecca noted that Shelly had been unhappy for awhile. To me, it was a couple telling bad news to people they care about and putting on a brave and upbeat face. Then we get the Miguel no longer making coffee for Shelly at 6:30am and Shelly not caring scene. I don’t see the inconsistencies.
