  1. A tremendous loss. But I am so grateful I was witness to his talent and that he had a big spotlight for the last years of his life. RIP.
  2. Is that it for the show? No real cliffhangers. What happened to the NASCAR woman? Erik forgave Helen wayyyy too easily.
  3. I just recently watched a movie called Language Lessons starring Natalie Morales and Mark Duplass, where she is providing Spanish lessons to Mark via Zoom. Shot during the pandemic, what I noticed is how it is shot like a romcom, but the relationship is strictly platonic. It reminds me of another recent movie, Half of It. Seeing the formation of an adult friendship is rare, and between a man and woman is even rarer. Granted, one of the characters tends to be gay, but is there a movie centred around a straight woman and straight man friendship?
  4. Michelle Buteau is such a star. I was most impressed in her grounded dramatic scenes. The scene where she is stoned and tells the story of her being called N-word was just really well performed. I also love the friendship between a straight man and a straight woman. I was more into her career than her love life. Some of the sexcapades were not my favourite. This better get a second season!
  5. I would totally eat octopus dumplings. Not much different from shrimp dumplings.
  6. I really liked the DA actress from her Chicago Med days. I like how more vibrant she is here than she was on the medical drama. I always root for the underdog so will keep rooting for her. Those photos were so lame. The older lady could say that Maggie was walking closer to the road and not the building as it seemed like a really wide sidewalk. Or she was just getting out of her car so on the road. Or she was trying to cross the road because people jaywalk in downtown districts all of the time. I am assuming there will be a season where Neve is the DA? I barely know she is a lawyer. So, is Lorna still a law student or an articled student (or whatever equivalent it is in California), has she passed the bar? I have completely confused. Or this a summer gig? I am so confused by the Maggie character. Did she use a step stool to murder the developer with a hammer? Why is an owner of a hipster restaurant so against gentrification? People moving into those condos would be her customer base. I HATE Cisco’s storyline.
  7. The Brady-ness of this just made it unwatchable for me. All of them fawning over him was too much. I wonder if one person paid to see this in an Atlanta movie theatre.
  8. I thought this was clearly the best musical of the series. And Apa is really great this season. I totally get the kinda aimless quality of the season but I find virtually every character likeable. Seasons 1 and 7 will be my favourite. I just cannot fathom the concept of wanting the show to be like seasons 2-6.
  9. The best thing about Tye Perfect Find was reintroducing me to The Jets’ You Got it All during the party scene. Takes me back.
  10. I just watched it and thought it was amazing. Beyond the talking, I feel that movies so rarely display goodness and earnestness. Everything is snarky these days. Visually, I thought it was stunning.
  11. I find Nalini and her boytoy so hot. And her thoughts on serialized tv is lol.
  12. Had the actor playing Manish been more available, the series would have ended with the wedding of him and Kamala. I LOVE Nirmala but would have loved a season full of clashes between Nirmala and Manish’s family. For me, the show’s true legacy is the family of four strong funny women of different generations. There was a balance amongst them that made watching them so appealing. I find the teens fun and engaging, but Devi loomed so large that not enough time we’re given to them. Especially Eleanor and Fabiola. Fabiola’s storyline this season was especially trite. I was confused by Eleanor’s future. Did she go to film school or is she just shooting her own movies? I actually think Trent could do well behind the scenes, like stunts, grips, etc. And the less said about Ben being endgame, the better. Would Paxton go back to Arizona so easily? Never been in that situations before. Right from the start, I was wondering that not one of those schools would be won over by a girl of Indian immigrants whose dad died while she was doing a recital, causing her to become paralyzed, but still getting incredible grades and cleaning towels for the swim team. I know she writes that she didn’t want to exploit her situation, but this is Devi. Don’t buy it.
  13. Drea is a friggin’ rockstar!
  14. I am really enjoying this series, I so much prefer Veronica being a movie theatre owner than whatever she did the previous seasons. I also feel the actors are enjoying the season too. That bit from Jughead about the difference between mourning and wallowing was surprisingly resonant.
  15. This is my favourite season since season one. I am glad it’s kinda normal. And Archie has never been more likeable.
  16. They are almost done with the podcast, and they finally got Ben. It was very good. It is quite impressive that they got pretty much every regular at least once. I can’t think of anyone missing. Some guest stars didn’t show up, particularly the actors who played Oliver and Johnny. I generally liked the podcast, the quality of the episodes were quite dependent on the guest. But good thing that a good number of them were entertaining. Not just the famous people, but some of the directors and behind the scenes folks. Michael Cassidy was my favourite guest.
  17. A post long ago, but I think Patsy was willing to take care of all the kids, but Emma decided on Aurora because the reason Patsy wanted the kids in the first place was because of the daughter. Patsy was not gonna just take the girl and leave the boys behind. More recent films, Andrew Garfield and Robin de Jesus in tick tick Boom! were friendship goals. Awkwafina and Constance Wu in Crazy Rich Asians modernized the female lead / crazy bff dynamic. And the girl and boy in Half of It displayed a male/female friendship in a teen movie.
  18. There are recent tv series that has characters get an abortion like Euphoria, 13 Reasons Why and Degrassi (not just the early season with Manny, the writers had other characters make that decisions in later seasons).
  19. After the success of Everything Everywhere All at Once, Michelle Yeoh has earned her movie star status and Hollywood should make a star vehicle for her. A comedic action adventure like Romancing the Stone. Her costar could be someone like Hugh Jackman.
  20. I liked this episode. The scene at the locker with Archie and Betty was so funny. KJ killed with the “I am really excited” line.
  21. Mutt was my favourite male character on the show, so I wished he had more going on in the main timeline.
  22. I liked the ending. Ultimately, the main timeline was the only one I was interested. I was also tired of every romance involving some type of betrayal. I also liked how the two moms were betrayed. Sarah Chalke can kinda grate at me times (she can be so manic) but she portrayed calm and solemnity very well. Heigel reminded me how much star quality she has, she really needs a show that showcases her gifts.
  23. I enjoyed Tourist’s Guide to Love. The couple had a nice chemistry, but the beauty of Vietnam got me. It was basically my itinerary when I went to Vietnam 15 years ago except in reverse. It is kinda funny that the tourist guide provided an alternative tour of the country, because the actual tourist areas would be too expensive and impossible to shoot, heh. But that’s fine too. Something like the Golden Hand Bridge was too new for me. The grandma (Ba Noi) was a hoot.
  24. I really enjoyed it. I am not one for caper shows, so I already like the family dynamic. That said, I thought the schemes were fun, especially the parents. Looking forward to knowing more about Emma’s family.
  25. I hated the love triangle. The 90210 episode was the best. I think Netflix should give shows like this (ie any sitcoms) more time to grow. With so few live action sitcoms being made these days, I forgive the younger cast. It is a skill set that take times to learn.
