  1. Also the one with Freddie Prince Jr. and those other ones that even I can’t watch (I Believe in Santa, and those California movies). While I appreciated the more dramatic tone of The Noel Diary, I am not sure why their comedies were so traditional and tropish.
  2. It seemed that Hallmark did a better job with their movies than the other channels. Netflix really disappointed, as did Lifetime.
  3. Just watched Mistletoe Time Machine, about three high school besties who break up after a bad talent show accident. As adults, they are transported back to high school and reconcile their differences. It’s pretty tangential to Christmas but oh well. It was fun and it was more about friendship than romance. My favourite of the year? This year has been pretty bad.
  4. I am on team Kate. As an uncle, I really have no problems telling my cute nephew “No, I can’t do that because your parents told me…” Really not that difficult. Or call Kate and have Mara convince her.
  5. 5 Star Christmas is a high-tier Hallmark movie. It had a more ensemble atmosphere, its focus on slapstick comedy deviates from the norm, and the chemistry was fun.
  6. The last 20 minutes does fall apart, the best part was basically the entire road trip. I liked them getting to know each other, and the part where she was reading his book.
  7. The Noel Diary is clearly the best Netflix outing. The cinematography was really a cut above, and the chemistry between Justin Hartley and Barrett Doss was undeniable. It falters the last 20 minutes or so, though. You end up unsatisfied. Even the small characters pop—the waitress, the bookseller, the fans at the beginning. I love when Christmas movies are made with real effort.
  8. I really enjoyed Three Wise Men and a Baby. Besides the dance, another bonus is a shirtless Andrew Walker! They got excellent ratings, it seems. Hopefully, it means more movies that focus on comedy and ensembles and less on couples. Although I suspect Hallmark will think they can base Christmas movies on 80s movies, ie Andrew Walker’s Day Off. https://deadline.com/2022/11/hallmark-three-wise-men-and-a-baby-most-watched-movie-of-2022-basica-cable-1235180386/
  9. Hilarie Burton was a star in a very successful and long running teen tv drama One Tree Hill, and other shows like Suits. She has also done her fair share of Christmas tv movies.
  10. I think the cast in Christmas with You was likeable, but the movie didn’t have much oomph. Even before Single All the Way and Love Hard, Holidate was not as good but at least they tried to be different. These last two movies were quite basic in plot.
  11. I don’t know why Hallmark movies featuring actors of colour suddenly have to also be good? It’s not like past Hallmark movies were winning Emmys.
  12. I think people are just happy to see Lindsay. The plot was so much like a typical Holiday movie. I thought Netflix would modernize it more. Love Hard was so great from last year, and this was a step down.
  13. Craig’s dad’s death is quite different from how Wheels’ parents died. Claude’s suicide is very different from Cam’s. I think it’s cool that a new generation of people have their own Degrassi.
  14. Superstore: Whenever Sandra stands up for herself, but her best moment is when locked out Carole from shelter from the tornado.
  15. I was expecting Mila was gonna play one of those characters who climbs her way to the top, hiding her scamming past. I was not expecting all of the issues at play here. Mila was great. I too had some issues with the plot. I also think I needed to see more of Mila actually climbing the ladder. Most of the movie was about her unraveling. I wanted to know more about the kids still alive. Like, those kids are from families that are in that environment Mila was able to get herself into.
  16. If they make another movie in the next few years, Jesse’s son would be around the age Jesse and Celine were in Before Sunrise. It could be about Jesse and Celine visiting the son and his new partner in…no clue, where. I think an American setting would be interesting. In seeing the son and his partner interact, Jesse and Celine can reflect on how they behaved back then and what they are now.
  17. I am rewatching the Next Class, midway through season 3. Every episode has at least one memorable or iconic moment. The cast is really gelling too. The kids look soooo young. It is hard for me to really hate anyone. Their actions seem consistent with what people that age behave.
  18. And they had a lot of trouble hiring a nurse or nurse practitioner because if the location and Doc’s personality. They needed Mel. I too thought Tara would be a natural fit for the new doctor. And I always thought Brie has the most chemistry with the cop.
  19. I am a couple years younger than Jesse and Celine, and I very much relate to them. Sunset is my favourite, I may consider it the best movie of the 2000s. I want a fourth. I don’t think being 50+ suddenly makes life uninteresting.
  20. I watched Plus One with Jack Quaid and Maya Erskine. Really well done and adorable. The main couple had a very nice chemistry and energy.
  21. I finished the show and I will say that the show’s best asset is the friendship between Ingrid, Rachel and Tyler. I like their camaraderie, but I also think they look great together, there was something aspirational about them. I loathed and despised Ingrid’s love interests and do not want them on my screen except as villains. I can’t deal with the idea that Rachel and Dan will be a thing. I have no problem with Rachel not being with whatshisname who can’t tell the difference between reply and reply-all. Why am I supposed to feel sorry for that mediocre person? I don’t understand what Tyler’s new job entails.
  22. I am only episode two, I am assuming the long racquetball scene exists for a reason.
  23. I will just say it. There are too many mediocre white men in this show. And they are the only love interests for the Asian woman, black gay man and white woman. I hate this.
  24. He lived a full life, may he Rest In Peace. Another icon. Both Nat and Teasley are such strong positive examples of the archetypes they played. With both, they best worked when they gave the main characters what for. Interesting how most teen shows don’t feature that elder states person in any meaningful way. The show showed how such characters can work when they hire the right person and actually write for them.
  25. I am behind on their podcasts but went straight to this episode. I didn’t know about her death until I saw this on their list of episodes. She brought so much charm and strength to such a small role. One of those great character actors. 64! So young.
