Whitney Thore: So She Thinks She Can Dance
Me from ME replied to Meredith Quill's topic in My Big Fat Fabulous Life
Yeah, you really should watch the entire episode. The Big Girls Dance Class did have an opportunity to do a dance. Our attention loving girl got out of her scooter and tried to do the choreography but since she hadn't practiced she screwed it up for the rest of them. I also seem to recall that there might have been an award given and Twit was disappointed that they hadn't won. -

Fasting sometimes is a good way to learn what real hunger is and also to appreciate food as fuel not as entertainment. -

Mamadrama, the dialogue that you posted was the only enjoyable thing about this last (hopefully the final) episode. Most of us have family members who know that we watch yet can't bring themselves to join us. You are so fortunate to have a daughter who gets the snark. -
Social Media: What's Up With Her?
Me from ME replied to ClareWalks's topic in My Big Fat Fabulous Life
I believe that Buddy was a friend of one of Twit's boyfriends in High School. There is a video somewhere on the web of him when he was younger, slimmer, and had more hair. He was in a band and the group of them went to some kind of restaurant that had huge multi-meat sandwiches which were free if someone could eat it within the allotted time. With his band mates looking on and encouraging him he tried but failed. So, if he had been a fairly attractive rock and roller I could see her crushing on him. Yes, she does drink and may do some other kind of mood enhancement - judging from the short video she posted with Tal from her closet early on. It was before he became sober and they were both under the influence of something and fully or partially nude. (This may have been the catalyst for him to get sober.) BTW 3girlsforus, I'm sure it was your spell checker but Twit had proudly proclaimed that she and Buddy had "crossed the FLESHhold" because she is so clever and quirky. Which in my mind makes her even more obnoxious. And with that, I'll just say...Beee! -
S09.E11: Late, Toothless And High
Me from ME replied to PrincessPurrsALot's topic in My Big Fat Fabulous Life
If she has been studying French all this time, especially conversational French, you would think that she would know how to pronounce "sans" by now! You can't convince me she wouldn't take the opportunity to use her newly acquired french accent because, well she has bragged about being able to ski a double black diamond slope, is a very strong swimmer, and can execute an arabesque. -

It is unquestionable that she is full of rage, but I think alcohol might be lowering her already tenuous control of herself. Her facade of being a civilized human being began slipping a long time ago. I've said it before, but she was hardly a slim dancer in high school. She cropped the prom picture in the pink dress to avoid showing the bulges. The picture with Todd and the poster are hiding her figure. I would guess that there aren't any other pictures that she would share when she does not appear to be overweight. (Other than the one wearing casual clothes and resting her elbows on the fireplace mantle. That one does meet my definition of "thin" and that one alone. -

Just watched the episode. OMG the constant caterwauling on the boat along with the inane conversation was annoying, to say the least. Yeah, she declares that she is "in love" with the blur. And, once again, she takes the opportunity to dis her mother by announcing that Babs couldn't shuck oysters very well due to "stroke hand". Her team was working with a handicap, "It's not fair" wah, wah, wah. And, of course she couldn't resist the sexual innuendo. All the lame jokes with words ending in uck and ucking. And then there was the fakery and filler surrounding her dental problem. Are we to believe that she took the rental car and disappeared to a dentist in Ellsworth without telling the rest of her family when there had been an activity scheduled? And again with the extended lower lip to signal her sadness, and Heather cradling her head to her breast to comfort her like a 3 year old. Every time someone says that she is a trained actress I am reminded how limited her range is. OTOH Jason Sudekis showed a believable range of emotions on Ted Lasso and I found myself appreciating good acting. This is not a comment on her size, but when they showed a recap of last week's episode with a shot of the group clustering around her on Cadillac Mtn. (probably the time Ashley was wiping away Twit's tears) I was reminded of a scene from Gorillas in the Mist. -
S09.E10: Maine Reason For Tension
Me from ME replied to PrincessPurrsALot's topic in My Big Fat Fabulous Life
The fact that she once had that same picture of her shirtless father on the ceiling over her bed, and the fact that she used the same one for the towel, AND that she described it as "racy" tells us a lot. I also saw some microagression with her mother on the boat. Just as I suspected, she would be driven to the top of Cadillac Mtn. and then filmed climbing up a random boulder to make it appear that she had actually hiked. I am disappointed that they didn't walk out to Bar Island and get stuck in the sand and/or stranded by the rising tide. -
S09.E08: A Big Fat Disappointment
Me from ME replied to PrincessPurrsALot's topic in My Big Fat Fabulous Life
OK I am really questioning whether she considers the twilight sedation to be general anesthesia. I don't since there is no intubation and only an iv. Any colonoscopies I have had used mild sedation and they adjusted the dose so that I nodded off during part of the procedure but when the bf had it he was awake and watched the entire thing even though sedated. So I think that Whit's experience was more like that of the bf than mine. BTW I am of normal weight but also avoid general anesthesia and novocaine if possible. I had two pins put in a broken wrist without general anesthesia. I had a fentanyl axillary drip and I although I could feel the pins being inserted and it hurt I didn't care because...fentanyl. After the first pin the physician asked if I wanted a little more and since it felt so good I readily agreed. Bad move, it was emergency day surgery and they wanted to discharge me at 5pm and all I wanted to do was sleep and then I felt really bad - the worst hangover of my life. -
This has been around at least since the Victorian era. Regency House Party had a similar scene with the "Countess" acting as serving platter. Just checked around on the internet and apparently eating Sushi off a naked body dates back to the early 1600's.

Yeah, when I was a kid I visited some people outside of Washington, D.C. who had a summer place near ours to attend (as a spectator) the Washington International Horse Show. The first night required formal dress. I was about 16 years old. I returned to my room to learn that their live-in maid had unpacked and pressed my clothes in preparation for the evening's festivities. As an adult I have been on ships in accommodations where a butler is assigned to my suite and although an unpacking service has been offered, I have never availed myself of it. Now, pre-dinner hors d'oevres is a whole different matter although the butlers tend to knock briefly and just walk in regardless of my state of undress. They have seen it all.

Watching the Covid season on the free Peacock network just now. I really don't understand the Captain Lee fangirling. I see him as someone who is suddenly famous and sits up at night writing down his aphorisms that have to be bleeped. Note to "Captain Stud" we don't all think references to sharp things being hammered in to one's body as being particularly clever or interesting. The Captain is paid well, I think it is unseemly that he pays such close attention to the size of the tip. Maybe it is to show solidarity with the crew but still... Wasn't it the first primary guest this season, the "repeat offender" who had reacted defensively about not giving a sufficient tip on the last go round? It is so obvious that he acted out and was extra demanding on this season but then tipped well so it was perceived as being worth it for the crew. Happy that it is free on Peacock and I am mid-binge.

Bugs me as well. GW Bush did the same. I read somewhere that it is easier to pronounce the two long u sounds and once embedded it becomes a habit. My former husband earned a Ph.D. on people's reaction to the threat of nuclear war. His advisor pronounced it the same way as Bob Woodward and he certainly had a lot of opportunity to say the word which was like nails on a chalkboard. Fortunately, the hubs pronounced it as it is spelled. I wonder if NBC threatened Mika with her own show on Peacock to inspire her to improve her performance on Morning Joe. Has there been any more mention of it? I haven't watched for about a week. Busy canning tomatoes. Four dozen quarts and counting.

Ketzel, I usually agree with you 100% however, I would submit that An American Family a show about the Loud family might have been the first unscripted reality show. I don't remember much about it but it followed an upper middle class family from Santa Barbara during which the parents got divorced and the eldest son came out. It was aired in the early '70s. -
S09.E05: Retreat Yourself
Me from ME replied to PrincessPurrsALot's topic in My Big Fat Fabulous Life
Absolutely. It is always easier to tell someone what to do than to work on one's self. Mamadrama thanks for the beautiful pictures. When I saw that she was in Bar Harbor earlier a few weeks ago I shared your horror of her and the crew invading our favorite places. Are we going to be treated to scenes of her eating lobster? Dipping her toe in the ocean? Shrieking at the view from Cadillac Mountain? I think that another reason for Glenn and Babs to not move downstairs is that it would be less likely that their monster of a daughter will barge in on them at any time and start ordering them around. It would be for her convenience if she didn't have to climb stairs to harass them. -
S09.E05: Retreat Yourself

That's true but I think some may be questioning the fairytale right about now. Perhaps if Pilgrim Media had waited, oh, I don't know, a year or two, after the Chase drama the whirlwind "romance" with the man from France might have seemed more believable. -
S09.E05: Retreat Yourself
Me from ME replied to PrincessPurrsALot's topic in My Big Fat Fabulous Life
What is funny is that the man from her past was Chase because he (like the man in France) wasn't into her but the script writers are trying to lead us to believe that the man from her past was Avi. Why else would they set it up to have another of Avi's past girlfriends attend the totally fake "big girl retreat". This is ridiculous. It will be interesting to find out what her minions think of this stupid plot. -

I really wish someone had been there to remind Twit that last season (the weekend of the lake house get-away) she fell on the ground when walking off the patio. Buddy was the only one there but I am sure that Hunter or her parents must have seen the episode and known about it. -
S09.E03: Will You Be My Surrogate?
Me from ME replied to PrincessPurrsALot's topic in My Big Fat Fabulous Life
Well, there was asking Todd to sleep in the same bed in NYC and cuddle with her and the video that she and Tal did while in her closet, naked, and under the influence of something. (Not on the show but somewhere on social media.) Was the iceberg that she french-kissed male?) -
S09.E02: From Tutor to Suitor
Me from ME replied to PrincessPurrsALot's topic in My Big Fat Fabulous Life
Even if she had studied a different language in high school I would think that she would have been more adept at learning french. It is a change in mindset. And as someone else pointed out she has been to Paris, how could she not have learned a few words on her own? (Croissant doesn't count.) It is fairly remarkable that Babs could recall some of what she learned even longer ago. Hold on a moment, Todd has even spoken a few french phrases. I think Twit is truly a dolt and has managed to slide by in life. Colleena, not that I thought I was unique in that mismatching of languages but you are the first one to say you have the same shared experience. I told my friend who is fluent in three languages about it and she couldn't relate. -
S09.E02: From Tutor to Suitor
Me from ME replied to PrincessPurrsALot's topic in My Big Fat Fabulous Life
Do we know if Twit studied any foreign language in high school? If it wasn't a requirement it is a terrible commentary on the american education system. When I was in high school we had short courses in Spanish, German, French and Russian to give us a taste of each language so we could choose which one to study more intensively. I chose French but I never became proficient. I had that unsettling experience of trying to speak French in Paris and receiving the answer back in English. So maybe that's why Twit was reluctant to try her newly acquired skill. A few years ago I decided to try to learn Norwegian and whenever I couldn't remember how to translate a word - the french word would pop into my brain. It was interesting to realize how that knowledge had been deeply embedded. -

lightninggirl, I wanted to thank you for your detailed answer to my question a few days ago. I thought I had posted a reply, but then, Ida came along and took out the power for two days. I really appreciate all the time you took to post your well reasoned answer. It is so great to have so many professionals around here. -

I really appreciate your expertise on his native tongue when you hear his accent. Although I am curious about what you are seeing that supports his origins. Is it something about the clothing, body type, or what you can see about the part of his head that hasn't been obscured?
