  1. One) I don't believe Ben and Jessa are doing anything to prevent pregnancy. While most people get pregnant during the first year, not everyone has a honeymoon baby (Jill). It's also possible that Jessa is pregnant not telling (even her sister waited until she was eight weeks along.) Two) While I agree financial security is ideal and having an income is better for anyone, I actually Ben would make an okay father. He seems sweet with kids and has a warm affectionate heart, which I think are good qualities for a potential father. He does seem immature, but not immature enough that he couldn't be trusted to watch the kids while Jessa goes out. Three) His letter is dorky, but sweet.
  2. I just read an article that said Joseph is courting one of the Bates girls. Is this true? Does anyone know? It also says he's going to college and out of the house.
  3. Yeah while watching the show, I was thinking Christine watched some of the Duggars' show, saw Grandma Duggar babysitting for Jim-Bob and Michelle (while living with them) and decided how I can make that work for me. Especially as like the Duggars, some of her other chief babysitters (the oldest daughters) are moving out and they have to find new sources of babysitting. That being said I have long thought Christine gets the least amount of help from Kody with the kids, so I don't mind seeing her get help from someone else. I think Christine picked polygamy, because that's how she was raised. I think her family was aggressively pro-polygamy when she was younger, but her mom has changed or mellowed in the later years .I've seen other people in other religions or lifestyles change or mellow their views as they and their kids got older. (And I missed the part where Christine's mother got divorced. very surprised)
  4. I'm surprised one of the women was raised Catholic. Does anyone else know/remember if the other polygamists weren't mormon and/or polygamists before? One of the sister wives said "I was 21 when we met." If they were twins shouldn't they have both been 21? They certainly looked alike, but I'm not sure they're twin sisters. Another polygamous family, the Darger family, had their own TLC show and they consisted of identical twin sisters and a cousin of the sisters. They were not shy about the fact the three wives were related and TLC aired many episodes of these people, so I don't think TLC is shy about saying it. It's probably the decision of the couples not to say if the wives are related. Most of the people on this are really annoying. (imo)
  5. Yeah I just started watching this because it looks awesome. I didn't recognize Bridget Regan and I watch Jane the Virgin. I'm suspicious of Dottie, because the house matron liked her so much. I agree we don't need a Mr. Carter anytime soon. I would be open to Sousa marrying Peggy, but not in the next five episodes. It's how people in the forties listened to podcasts.
  6. Wait, you mean not enough people watched after USA (whoever owns it these days) spent almost no time and money promoting it. That people didn't magically know to into what I consider was an engaging and smart comedy, by sheer magic of knowing it was on and or reading the tv guide from front to back. If they really gone all out and felt it didn't go anywhere then I be sad but understanding. They never gave this show the support it needed to succeed and now it's over and I wonder why they bothered running it in the first place. Any chance it can move to netflicks or somewhere where it will be appreciated versus just dumped on the air and off the air? USA used to be my favorite channel, and I watched so many of their shows (Burn Notice, Psych, White Collar, etc.) It's so sad to fade into re-runs.
  7. I didn't like most of the items last night. I thought most of them were stuff we could live without but then a lot of shark tank is stuff we could live out and it raises the whole question of our consumerist society, etc. The backpacks were silly mainly because they were really tiny. I also thought their presentation was a mess. I wouldn't have made all about the daughter considering.... she wasn't there. I too like the bottle cleaner. My least favorites of the whole episode were the baking ladies, although I agreed with them in part: Baking from scratch can be rewarding and skillful. I have to admit I do sometimes halve recipes to make fewer cookies. I guess I have fewer people to give 'em to. Also I didn't think their name was bad at all. Scratch and Grain Baking Company seemed like a nice enough name and not too confusing. That being said I got tired of the ladies by the end of their presentation. I would be more interested if the cookie flavors were more innovative or just different. I don't have a problem measuring out ingredients. In general, I found the whole concept rather lackluster. I feel these women could have the same effect with blog where they publish recipes. Or a cookbook. Or a cookie book. ;) and so on and so on. I just read what the cost and that seems high. I sold cookie mixes that cost almost as much in junior high as a fund raiser for the school. The sticker tie sisters lost me at reusable. I don't think anyone would really care to reuse them over and over. They'd probably lose the stickiness sooner than later. I also think they cost too much. I was impressed they took the deal. I thought their presentation was good and if the product was better they would have gotten a deal with them in it. The Spy dude ranch seemed good enough as a idea or a concept, but it seems like a lawsuit friendly business. Especially if they establish more spy camps all around the USA. It seemed to be better as a one-off location. I imagine to afford it, you'd probably have to have money to fly to the Utah or wherever it's located. It is good idea, but still seems like something could go wrong.
  8. I thought all of the ideas were ok, except the dating site. I know people who would wear the shirt. I think Doorman is clever. Also just because you'not home at 3:00pm one Tuesday doesn't necessarily mean you won't not be home next Tuesday. I am upset that important packages were just dropped off without the delivery guy making any attempt to figure out if anyone was home (which we were) including at least one that said someone should sign for it. As for the dating site, why did they have to be in San Francisco? Why not somewhere a little cheaper? They made so much money; did they not have any savings? Honestly I could see any of those women as being the kind of CEO who accepts a government bailout and then gives themselves bonuses.
  9. Huh? First of all my belief is like the country there are plenty of Catholics on the show. (The P in WASP stands for Protestant, or nonCatholic.) I agree that the Bachelor will never be a hot bed of diversity. I'm wondering if part of the reason there seem to be more white girls than ever before could have something to do with the choice of Bachelor. Farmer in Iowa seems more of a white girl fantasy( not to knock any person of color who has this fantasy or is either gender). But seriously Chris's hometown is what less than 1000 people? Probably the majority of them are white. One person of color may isolated and probably stands out. I've heard people of color say that small towns are among the most challenging environments for people of color. My guess is there were fewer applicants of color based on that.
  10. me too! I get a lot of this from the fundie lite friends. Plus hearing about how great it is to be in love. But on the other hand, it may have to do with how many people fit in the car? One reason not to have 19 kids is gas prices and having to have a seat for every person. It didn't look like there was room to spare on the quadruple date, especially with two pregnant ladies. There may not have been room for Jana.
  11. I would prefer more Flynn and less Cassandra.
  12. Just read an article speculating Jessa is pregnant. They claimed they had "evidence" which seemed scant to me so I skimmed it. Not much substance there (in the article) even if she is pregnant.
  13. Some conservative Christians favor the "boys will be boys" argument complete with double standards. Other Christians think sex is healthy part of marriage and can be discussed once the marriage is taken place or is about to taken place, depending on the couples and families etc. I think Danny and Amy are more the latter themselves, but his family seems more the former to me. Among other questions I would have asked I would have liked to know why Amy is so religious, is this common in South Africa, etc. I don't much about the culture so it would have been interesting. I wish they had asked better questions or actually taken a few from the internet.
  14. It was Jason who asked Mo if he loved Dani. I thought it was smart sitting Jason and Cassia next to Dani and Mo. They were able to both ask questions and were more understanding than say Justin and Evelin might have been. I thought they should have asked if anyone was pregnant or had any news. I'm seriously flummoxed by the way they pursued this interview. They managed to deal with tougher issues with both the casts of Sister Wives and Breaking Amish. On the other hand, I think they could have done a more charming fluff piece if they had chosen to go in that direction. I thought Danny and Amy did okay tonight as did Cassia and Jason and Brett and Daya and Chelsea and Yamir. Danny explaining his reaction to his father was interesting. He said viewers expected him to be angry and his decision was to be patient and bring him around. I'm more of an angry person myself, but I can understand trying a different approach. In the clip I saw more clearly that Danny's mom looks like she could be Amy's mom. The whole situation with that family is weird. If I were Evelin, I would be pissed when Justin said the honeymoon's over in non-flattering tone. He's good with pda, but he seems uncomfortable about marriage or whatever. What's with this guy? Brett and his reasonings behind marrying a woman from the Philippines still make me uncomfortable. I thought it was interesting that as the season progressed they seemed to grow as a couple to where I now kind of think they're a viable couple.
  15. I don't remember the kissy pic. What did it look like? I think there's a good chance Richard James will be the name, but I'm not 100% sure. I could see them going in a more modern/trendy direction.
  16. Well considering how little press this show has gotten; how can they expect the ratings to be off the charts? I saw these episodes and liked them both. I did feel Molly Shannon was underused, but hopefully she comes back.
  17. Re: The twelve things the Duggars gave to me #4 is wrong. It's 4 children in 7 years. They will be married closer to seven years when the baby is born. I know at least two couples who had 4 in kids in 6 years, although maybe they're counting from when Mac is born. Two On the quiz I got 85 percent. I missed the last two questions.
  18. I don't necessarily think either of them necessarily "chose" this. I don't want to get to personal about Josh and Anna, so I'll talk in generalities. Generally most couples who don't use any formal birth control get pregnant. The rhythm method is considered a less reliable form of birth control. Some women either have unreliable menstrual cycles or get distracted by the day to day life and lose tack. You have to keep careful track of your cycle every single day which is not necessarily convenient when you have small children who need 24/7 supervision. There also may be nights where both husband and wife are tired and decide just to risk or they had sex at low risk time which still can result in pregnancy. These risks probably go up when under 30. Also a lot of women are amazingly bad at math (Seriously!). Keep in mind Gothard was actually against Rhythm method. I'm not a big fan of the Duggars, even Anna, and I tend to be snarky towards them. I don't believe what they believe. I don't believe it's a woman fault if a man is attracted to her and/or wants to have sex. I don't believe a woman is a bad person because she wants to have sex in or not in a relationship. I believe both men and women are responsible or should take responsibility for their actions including their sexual decisions and their procreative decisions. This means I wouldn't say she defrauded him into pregnancy. Both parties made choices. Or if he never wants more children, he needs to figure out how to deal with family planning and talk to Anna. If he doesn't want more children, he needs to find a way to accept that and accept that they together can make decisions together and take stronger precautions.
  19. Alan Alda! Who's the astronaut? The empty portrait! (crying) All of life's most important answers are in the form of questions.
  20. Also: Doris Kearns Goodwin Bill Clinton Cookie Monster Arianna Huffington George Stephanopolis JJ Abrams? and Jon Stewart
  21. I'm having major panic attacks watching Stephen's second to last show. I'm Mary Tyler Moore crying right now. (And this wasn't my favorite show ever.) Phil Klay is a good guest. I want to read his book. Everyone I live with is tired of the Infiniti commercial.
  22. I know a lot of people have been frustrated with this show for a long time, but for me this was a new low. I like Juliette and Avery, but sheesh! With everything else, going on we did not need Sadie drama. We had enough drama. I think the worst thing is how everyone could guess what was coming in almost every plotline! Seriously no surprises! As I said Sadie's drama was unnecessary. I'm also disappointed with Gunnar's storyline. He is still that kid's next of kin on the father's side. On a sideways note, why is it the every other side character (usually another character's parent or parents) is so damn classist? Remember Juliette married that Christian guy in the first season and his parents looked down on her in part for her mother and where she came from? Or Avery's parents? Or Rayna's father towards Deacon? Or now Gunnar's nephew's grandparents, who on the one hand mentioned his checkered past, but then when he says he changed, use where he came from as proof he can't change? Seriously this show is more class conscious than Downton Abbey. The Crawleys reacted better to Sibyl and Tom! Rayna you are not 16, you should know the best way to make decisions is to try to get some sleep and see how you feel in the morning. I don't remember exactly, but my memory is that she stayed up thinking on purpose not tossing and turning all night. I liked seeing Deacon and Scarlett have fun together. Seeing him fall apart like that was annoying, but given how sick he is I'm willing to overlook that. Get well soon Deacon! Now as for Will,Layla, and Jeff out of all the plots the other night this one broke my heart. Will was perfect for Layla as he treated her the same way she treated him all season. He kept changing his mind and expected her to go along with it. Like Layla, Will wasn't sure what he wanted except he wanted the best for himself. Jeff is one cold bastard, but I think he genuinely liked Layla. I thought it was interesting his first idea to Will was to sleep a groupie or a fan, because I think he wanted Layla for himself. Jeff is so cold, I think it would take a lot for him to get his soul back, which is why he so callously sold Layla back to Will. That being said he probably assumed someone else would call 911, and maybe he realizes or thinks Layla is gone and there's nothing they can do for her. I liked Juliette and Avery together, but the ending with the wedding was a little too rushed for me. In general it felt like the writers dumped two months worth of story in ten minutes, which was too much in my opinion. It also felt like all plot and no storytelling.
  23. Eliza Coupe is engaged! I'm so happy for her.
  24. Why were they female horses? Aren't most race horses dudes?
  25. Holy moly watching TLC's Favorite Holiday moments. They showed an early Christmas with the Duggars. Is that the same family? And is that Michelle? Talking? Her voice is unrecognizable. It's so melodious... at least compared to now. I've always thought TLC did them favors moving them into the bigger house and giving them money and whatnot, but man it's so different. I don't think Michelle's head will explode if Jessa is pregnant. I read somewhere the only woman a woman didn't mind surpassing her was her own daughter. It seemed among other things overly bitchy to me, but it could be true of some people. In this case, Jessa Blessa and Ben are such favorites of Michelle's. They're hot like her. I think she's hoping for grandbabies from them. I think she'll be proud if any and all of her daughters carry on her legacy and even if a few surpass her. She's more like to explode if any of them go against the family rules, traditions, and values.
