Cute episode. I had forgotten how much I missed this show until we finally got a new episode. I enjoyed Bonnie wanting to mother Christie. I should probably say more but it's late and I'm sleepy, heh.

I liked this episode. It was sweet to see Bonnie be so caring, and Christy seemed to enjoy (as well as one can with a stomach bug) being babied.

The other ladies talking smack about how Bonnie and Christy don't help clean up after their meetings and catering to them was funny. Also, how they still went to their usual bistro and having to listen to Wendy's 'story,' with no buffer from their missing friends.

Bonnie's comments in the store with that other mom was good, too.

It was fun to see Bonnie acting like a new mom and going through all of the classic moments even though her daughter is a grown adult. Kristy acting like a child was the only reason it worked as well as it did. I liked the scenes in the grocery store.

It was nice seeing Bonnie being a loving mom and taking care of Christy.  I hated the ending were Bonnie left the store with that other mother, abandoning Christy like that, without even a word, well, I guess it was back to normal for Bonnie--stupid ending.

That was a good episode - lots of physical comedy. I laughed out loud when Bonnie kicked Adam towards the table and her soup!

As someone who was in Bonnie's shoes recently it also hit home pretty close. Sound advice by Marjorie!

I guess I'm the only one who was not charmed by this episode.  Bonnie's 'mothering' did not make me warm to her.  My God, she stressed out over caring for a 41 year old woman with a fever - how would she ever have been able to handle a kid?  And I didn't find it funny when she shoved her disabled fiance in a wheelchair up to the table like that.  I often imagine what would be the reaction if roles were reversed and if it had been a woman on the receiving end of that shove, and Bonnie were a man, I'm guessing it wouldn't be as funny.

Same ol' same ol with treating Wendy like an afterthought-doorman (no, wait - doormats get treated better) and shame on Jill for going all 'mean girls' on Wendy like that.  Guess her humbling by Andy on Valentines Day wore off

Anna Faris believably looked like hell throughout most of this episode.

This is the funniest the show has been in awhile, between the group first ragging on Bonnie and Christy in their absence to realizing that their absence was throwing their entire dynamic off.  Jill's rat-snake-mongoose analogy had me rolling, as does continuing the running gag that with them gone Wendy was finally getting plenty of time to talk and them realizing that she tells terrible stories nobody wants to hear.

Bonnie overcompensating in trying to mother Christy to make up for what she didn't do for her when she was younger was well done, as was her initial grocery store interaction with the other mom.  But it always feels predictable to do a bit with an adult acting like a child, and same-old same-old Bonnie to just wander off with the other mom and forget about her again at the end.

I didn't like the episode either. Christy is 41, I'm sure she's been sick before in her life, it just didn't strike me as believable that she'd be so childlike.

I did think the shove Bonnie gave Adam was funny, though.

This episode hit a pet peeve of mine: TV shows that say someone has "the flu" when their primary symptom shown is vomiting. Influenza is a respiratory disease! She should've been coughing. The fever and fatigue and out-of-it-ness sure. But the puking was out of place unless she was coughing so hard it made her puke. I know they probably meant "stomach flu" but they didn't say that, they just said "the flu". It's so irritating. And I know, language isn't prescriptive...but with names of diseases I feel like the whole "it means what people use it to mean" thing should not apply. It just causes confusion.

Ugh.

I'm still trying to figure out what the deal was with Bonnie straining like she was carrying one of those old 50-pound tube TVs up the stairs.  Most of us have probably carried a flatscreen that size from one room to another and know they don't weigh all that much.  It also wasn't big enough to even truly be awkward.  Other than Allison Janney just wanting to do a physical comedy bit, what was that?

Yeah, I could carry a TV that size with one hand. If they wanted to make it funny they could have had her trailing all the cables and connection wires behind her and trying not to trip.

Every time I've had the flu, I had very severe stomach symptoms along with all the respiratory symptoms.  While it is primarily a respiratory virus, severe cases can affect just about every bodily system.

I thought it was less about the weight and more about the size of the screen.  I always find it awkward to carry a big flat screen even though it's not heavy.  I feel my balance gets throw off.

Happened in this week's episode of Will & Grace. The woman wasn't shoved into a table just into a busy airport crowd - but she was elderly and frail.

Violence in a comedy context is hard to gauge - I laughed at the scene between Adam and Bonnie yet I absolutely loathe every episode of HIMYM dealing with that stupid slap-bet.

At first on the stairs she did seem to be trying to avoid the dangling cables which were between and around her legs, but once she got it upstairs...yeah it was not bulky enough (especially given Janney's height) for her to have as much trouble with it as presented. Especially since she joked about stealing TVs. If Bonnie previously had a habit of stealing TVs she should be better at maneuvering them through doors. It was bad physical comedy because it was unnneccessary. If they'd already gotten to the point where she too were exhausted it might've made more sense...she couldn't think straight so she couldn't do it. But as presented it was silly.

In my universe that's what we call "a cold."

Stomach flu is the only flu I know. That's why I never understood why TheraFlu treats colds. It should be called TheraCold.

That made me uncomfortable too.

And I know it was primarily a visual gag but the kitchen filled with soup ingredients was silly. No way Bonnie needed to make soup from scratch. Maybe she was over-compensating for her lack of mothering in the past but that felt over the top. Open a damn can like a normal person.

Flu is short for influenza. Stomach flu is not really a flu. According to Wikipedia:

Quote

Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is an infectious disease caused by an influenza virus.[1] Symptoms can be mild to severe.[4] The most common symptoms include: high fever, runny nose, sore throat, muscle pains, headache, coughing, sneezing, and feeling tired.[1] These symptoms typically begin two days after exposure to the virus and most last less than a week.[1] The cough, however, may last for more than two weeks.[1] In children, there may be diarrhea and vomiting, but these are not common in adults.[5] Diarrhea and vomiting occur more commonly in gastroenteritis, which is an unrelated disease and sometimes inaccurately referred to as "stomach flu" or the "24-hour flu".[5] Complications of influenza may include viral pneumonia, secondary bacterial pneumonia, sinus infections, and worsening of previous health problems such as asthma or heart failure.[2][4]

I use a wheelchair part time. I found the shove EXTREMELY offensive. It's not only rude, it's dangerous. It's not funny at all.

I make soup from scratch all the time (never a can!) but I don't make that kind of mess, either. I think was just a visual gag to show how Bonnie is going all out and stressing like crazy, trying to "make up for lost time". You should not feed someone with a fever, it just increases the vomiting. Starve a fever, feed a cold. But no one ever said Bonnie or Christy knew what they were doing, it was all about the try.

The makeup artist did a great job of making her look near death.

She is soooooo thin.

My favorite line was when Adam saw the mess from Bonnie’s soup....”Did any of it make it in the pot?”  😂

Me too.  Very few people vomit with influenza.  It presents with respiratory symptoms.  Without the vomiting, we wouldn’t have had the “corn” reference though.  😁

Late to the party but this episode does highlight what the "problem" with this show is .

What they really want is a show about a 40 year old mom with a 20 year old daughter.  ie  Christy and Violet.  However this show has become about Christy and Bonnie. Both look younger for their ages (especially Christy) so it works but  the fact that both characters are that much older and thus have longer histories  makes several stories repetitive and incongruous.

They probably planned to do an inter generational thing with Violet but the actress was not popular and the support ladies were much more interesting. Christie’s and Bonnie’s relationship does come off a little silly due to their ages.
