The time and effort that must've taken, to find all the different versions of Felicity. Never thought I'd be saying thanks to reddit but thanks so much! ?

OMG Are you sure a fan didn't make that?

It has Felicity with multiple cute expressions! Haha I feel like such a BAD BAD BAD Felicity fan! I have been neglecting my fanfic updates while Reddit is making posters and composing tragic fanfics! Honestly I'm ashamed of myself!

The best part is the top which says "Felicity. Queen. Bitch with WiFi. Icon."

Couldn't have said it better myself. ? ? ?

My husband is so mean about my fanfic writing.

I have been jittery about the crossover so having a case of writer's block. Tonight he was like "You sit down, focus and write 2000 words or else you can't come to bed."

Haha I've been procrastinating all week, including rolling out 30 flour tortillas at night during my writing time.

I've a friend who writes fics sometimes and I've been bugging her to write an Olicity fic with a bit of Raylicity (she likes Ray, too) but she keeps giving me the stink eye :P

Taking this here.

The trouble with Olicity plus a dash of Raylicity fics is I feel like Ray will ultimately lose out in that triangle unless you're committing to a full on Raylicity ending. And then Oliver loses which is sad.

I've stopped altogether and made Ray the trusty best friend instead so he doesn't lose. It's hard shipping the entire triangle! Does my head in sometimes!

Although I did have this one tragic idea where two of them end up dead and the third is alone so no one gets a happy ending (lol you don't want to know!).

It is certainly easier to write things when one is super inspired. And by easier I mean a lot faster. All my silly stuff gets written within a few hours.

But I find the SK approach works too and if it's horrible it can be edited. At least the bare bones are there.

I did leave this chapter for too long, hence the struggle to continue.

What about the rest of you who write? Do you only write when inspired or you force yourself to sit down and do it?

Usually I have trouble forcing myself to write if I'm not inspired, but usually if I can force my to write something even if it's not great, inspiration will show up once I get started. Usually with me writing things I hadn't intended to write when I first came up with my idea.

I'm trying harder to write even when I am not feeling inspired.  Often what is produced is better than expected or even just as good as when one is feeling it, it just takes so much longer.  My other trick is to review what I've already written and even when I'm not inspired, I like to rewrite stuff so for every one thing I cut, I probably add and expand two things.  That usually moves the whole thing forward or at least makes it better while I'm trying to figure out WHY I'm not inspired.

When I just flat can't write (and there is no obvious real life reason), it usually means I have a plot problem I'm either not totally seeing in the writing or one I see but don't have an answer for yet.

Watching this great fan video really brought home to me how far Oliver & Felicity have come since Season 1 (it includes moments from "Crisis on Earth-X") - I can't believe it's been more than 5 years, talk about an epic love story...

Always by Macha

It’s a post wedding fic, which yay and there should be more of those, and handles both Oliver’s and Felicity’s side of things very well. My one complaint is

Spoiler

the vows at the end. I’m not sure why they’d exchange Nanda Parbat vows, which Oliver and Nyssa were forced to exchange with one another. That’s not really a happy memory for anyone.

That line is actually from The Song of Songs/Solomon in the Old Testament/Talmud, and it’s sometimes said by one or both of the spouses in modern Jewish wedding ceremonies when they exchange rings, particularly  with interfaith marriages, if my understanding is correct. (I’m hardly an expert.) I’m not entirely sure why it was part of the LOA ceremony, but maybe there’s a historical reason involving the Song of Songs that I’m not aware of.

I LOVED this so much. I didn't even remember

Spoiler

the vow thing tbh!

I need more Macha fics. Whenever she posts I'm just reminded how much I love her work.

The S Word

I'll be honest, I've sort of grown past fics about Oliver and Felicity getting together than they actually did, so I went into this with some reluctance. Boy howdy, am I glad I did. It's awesome!

I liked that fic too, but I quoted you to agree with the first part of this. Olicity are married now, I’m ready to overdose on fics featuring their happy, functional marriage. Other things can happen in them, but mainly the happy, functional marriage.

I am actually opposite! Happy to embrace angsty fics now because they are happily married in show. I find that for me, at this point, reading anything too close to canon is never going to be as good as the real deal so I'm enjoying all the fics that alter canon a bit.

That was cute, although I'm not a fan of fics where things go nowhere, where nothing changed. I wish there was a little scene at the end where Past Felicity and Oliver look at each other just a few seconds longer because there's something in the back of their heads reminding them of the encounter.

Is anyone reading the Asclepius series where Felicity is a doctor In the Glades helping Oliver and Digg? I usually don't love AUs (especially ones where Felicity is so different from the show) but this one has really sucked me in. The last chapter was especially good: http://archiveofourown.org/works/12948444/chapters/29861949

I love this series.  Sharp writing, well done original characters, and the story fixes so many problems with the show.  That last section of the last chapter was a gut punch, even more impressive for how spare the language was.

I can't read it because like you said, Felicity is just too different.  Even if they ended up writing her in character, it's too big of an ask for me to buy into it believing she could have ended up a doctor and still have the same personality because while I could believe she could be good at it if she set her mind to do it, I can't imagine the Felicity we knew wanting to do it without some life event that radically changed her.  And then she wouldn't have ended up personality wise how we know her to be.  :D

This Felicity is definitely more streetsmart and jaded but I think her Oliver is spot on. I will sometimes forgive out there characterization in AUs if I feel like the writer is immersing me in a world I know nothing about, which is happening for me with this fic. Both the medical details and the street level poverty of the Glades have helped me visualize this Felicity in this world. It will be interesting to see where this goes, but if she finished this series as strong as she started it might be worth it to read it as a piece of original fiction.

I have read some fics that went really out of character that I still really enjoyed as just original material.

The only time it really bothered me is the part where she rewrote the S2 finale and had Felicity encourage Oliver to kill the Mirakuru soldiers because "they're not men anymore." That felt like way too much of a departure from "you have to find another way." But the series has since sucked me in - I just don't really connect it much with the show anymore. And it's getting increasingly plot divergent, which helps.

Though I will say, there are moments I've loved when it feels like she's fixing the show. Her Felicity's speech after Oliver pulls the "dangling maybes" bit was perfect.  http://archiveofourown.org/works/12948444/chapters/29595651

I couldn't get into the story because it was AU but felt oddly too canonish for me to enjoy it.

I don't know if that makes sense!

I either go straight out AU where the situations are super different or really hokey stuff like Oliver on Vacation or the time travel one above.

This one veered too close to a fix it fic for me and I don't like fix it fics.

i tried it, I couldn't get past the firdt few chapters especially when the author tried to play it both ways. Oh Felicity is a street wise Dr but, LOOK she's also a tech genius that rebuilds old tech for her patients or to resell to raise funds!

Ironically I did read a Doctor Felicity fic that I really enjoyed, it's a whole series called 21 Guns. Felicity and Roy are probably the most OOC but, for some reason it worked for me.

I believe this is actually going to be the case in this fic. I don't know, it's definitely AU but I think the author really captured the characters' essential qualities but colored through the lens of different experiences. I probably let more things go because it's so well written and has excellent plotting/pacing.

I definitely get this, but I think Felicity is more of a tinkerer who doesn't throw away perfectly good appliances that can be easily fixed and I buy the explanation for the later expertise. Though the author probably should have made her an MD/PhD but that doesn't fit as well with the gritty background.
