Wait. So marrying Jack was the happiest day of Phyllis' life but Victor ruined them and Jack told her to move on, so she did. Mal had to have been on a nap break when that script was sent out.

The BS crew is in LA, acting oh so cool, at the Beverly Palm Hotel.  Billy is a task master saying no sleep, or time for eating, but then the rest of the show they just sit around doing not much.  Lily and Cane see the billboard of Lily and she is all OMG!  Lily tells Cane she is impressed with how he is handling Billy.  They hug and he locks eyes with Billy.  Very strange moment!

Noah is at the Ranch and tells Drinki about what happened to Tessa with the guy who attacked her.  He says she was traumatized.  Drinki then fawns all over Tessa, very motherly, ensuring she eats, and talking to her about what happened and that it may have triggered something from the past.  And then she tells her she knew she was living in her car.  Tessa gets upset, and says she doesn’t want to be her charity case, and goes to move out.  Drinki tells her she is her friend.  She looks at her with awe.  She convinces her to stay.  Drinki tells her the most important thing to her is that Tessa is safe.  Tessa says through tears:  don’t be so nice to me.  If Tessa is a bad person conning Drinki, she is very, very good at it, cause it seems like she genuinely likes her.  Oh, also, Noah and Tessa make a plan for a date that evening.

Ash is at Jabot and summons Phyllis.  She wants to talk to her about Billy.  Ash says she is not thrilled that they are at it again.  Phyllis says they have a connection.  Ash says Phyllis doesn’t care how this is affecting Jack, Vic, or the kids.  She says she got what she wanted at everybody else’s expense.  Phyllis says she cares about Billy, he deserves affection and care.  She says when she married Jack it was the happiest day of her life, but Prick took that from them and there was no saving their marriage.  She has moved on with Billy.  Ash says it is not going to last.  Phyllis lashes out at Ash, about being judgmental and a bunch of other things.  Ash says she herself wants a real relationship, not like this sad fantasy that Phyllis has with Billy, that is not real.  She says that Phyllis is obsessed with her bro, who is with his ex-wife in LA.  Phyllis says after the shoot, Billy will return to her, and Ash is going to have to suck it up. Then Phyllis has a montage of weird flashbacks of the last week or so that confirm she is completely insecure.

Hilary is in LA booking meetings with top executives.  Yeah, right.  The BS crew has a meeting with the amazing director.  Afterwards Cane tells Billy that he was right all along but Billy is not buying it.  Cane offers to do the behind the scenes shots to help out and Billy balks at first but then agrees with it.

In what has to be the most boring plotline in some time, Mikey, Devon and Neil discuss the Mergeron deal.  They agreed to pay more, which she accepted, but she wants involvement in the company.  They discuss the pros and cons of that and Devon eventually agrees to it. 

Lily and Juliet bond some more.  Cane is on the phone, he is up to something nefarious for sure.  I need to comment on Cane’s attire.  He looks kind of skeevy in a suit with a blue v-neck t-shirt.  Cane pitches an idea of having the behind the scenes photog shadow Billy, and they could put together a documentary of some sort.  Vic is pleased that Cane is willing to give Billy the spotlight.  Wow.  Do professionals talk like this?  They sound like kids.  Hilary sees Jordan, and they make plans. Cane wants to entertain Lily with champagne and a night out.  Billy praises Vic for everything she has done and apologizes for being all work and no play.  She tells him he needs to find time to eat and she goes to get a dinner reservation.

Lily sees Hilary and says: what the hell are you doing here.  Hil tells her she has a good reason to be here, and Lily snarks about the Price is Right.  Hil says she is working on segments for her own show.  She says: I hope you don’t have a problem with that.  Jordan overhears and says why would Lily have a problem with that.  Lily says she has no problem, but then warns Hilary to stay away from their commercial shoot.  Cane is on the phone with the photog telling him that he wants him to cover one particular person, Billy Abbott.  I guess this is to make Phyllis jealous?  How does that help Cane?  Billy calls Phyllis and while they are talking Vic walks up and says: Billy, I got us a table with a great view, and Phyllis overhears that. 

Abby goes to see Ash and tells her about her phone call to Dina, and Ash warns her to steer clear of her grandmother.  Then she goes to see her friend Devon.  She wants him to tell her about her grandmother.  And we hear more of how Dina is elegant, shrewd, tough, a great business woman. 

So I guess Ash really is living at the Abbott Mansion now.  She arrives home and calls out Jack’s name, and then turns and sees Dina in the living room, who says: Ashley, it’s been far too long, and Ash goes into hands on hips bitch gaze mode.

Previews:  Yes, folks, it’s true.  Phyllis shows up in LA, with a scarf around her head, and is at the front desk of the Beverly Palm. Glo to Jack: It’s obvious you no longer want to continue our friendship now that everyone knows about it.  Cricket to Scott: what’s with you and Sharon?

Dina is back in GC and making the rounds.  First stop, the Abbott Mansion.  Apparently, Mrs. Martinez did let her in.  Dina and Ash have a very difficult convo, with Dina wanting to know about her love life, and Ash sniping at Dina.  Dina wants to stay in GC for a visit.  Dina says she has kept tabs on their lives and Jabot. They talk about John, and Ash says she promised him on his deathbed that she will never be like her mother.

Glo and Jack are at Jabot and as she goes to leave he asks her if she has a hot date.  She resents this comment and accuses him of ditching her now that everyone knows about them.  She thinks he is embarrassed to be seen with her.  They talk about their relationship and he says he is not embarrassed by her or their arrangement and he apologizes to her.  She says if he really wants to apologize, he could join her at the club.   And it looks like he plans to do so.

In LA, the BS crowd keeps telling us how hard they are working, but they just seem to be relaxing and drinking.  Billy and Vic are having dinner, talking business and how Billy is nervous about the shoot.  They reminisce about past visits to LA.  He says something that irks Vic, that she is the one who always reminds him of the rules. 

Scott and Cricket are at the squad room.  Sharon just did the hotline, and is also there.  Lauren wants to talk to Scott, so Sharon waits for him.  Then Cricket grills him about Sharon and five seconds later tries to persuade him to help her with a sex trafficking case in the Midwest.  Scott says he is not interested in the job.

Sharon and Scott go to dinner at the GCAC.  Noah and Tessa are also there for dinner.  All we learn about Tessa is that she was born in Chicago, her family moved around, she is not close to her family, she left when she was 17, and she does have a younger sister she is close to.

Hilary is jazzed by LA and she is thinking about staying in LA for the opportunity.  The only thing holding her in GC is Jordan.  Juliet stops by and Juliet says how Lily is so nice to her, and Hil mentions that Juliet and Cane seem to really get along well too.  Hil asks Jules what she did to impress Cane.  She’s snooping.

Stalker Phyllis does a romcomcom bit for us with the front desk agent.  She wants to get into her husband’s room.  He of course says he cannot give her a key, and she spends a fair bit of time trying to persuade him. She shows him a card that shows she is Phyllis Abbott!  Poor Jack!  Ultimately, he gives her the room number, which is also completely not allowed.  She manages to sneak in after the housekeeping staff.

Dina has now made her way to the GCAC, and her companion Graeme is seated at the bar with Glo.  Jack arrives and sees Dina at the bar, so he goes over to say hello.  They have an awkward hug, but she is overjoyed to see him.  She mentions her visit with Ash.  Dina introduces her companion to Jack, and he introduces Dina to Glo, who Dina recognizes as John’s wife.  Jack says Glo was very dedicated to John. Glo leaves for a pressing engagement, with a look at Jack.  Dina seems to pick up on it.  She tells Jack she wants to spend some time in GC and he seems fine with it and agrees to meet her tomorrow.  She leaves and he looks conflicted.  Glo texts Jack to join her, but he says, Sorry, rain check?

Scott decides he wants to confide something in Sharon.  He tells her he has led a double life.  He worked in intel for the government.

Lily and Cane have a fabulous romantic dinner and evening.  When they return to the hotel they bump into Hil and Jordan.  Lily starts sniping and Jordan says he wished two of his fave people could get along and be civil.  Hil says she would like that and mentions her convo with Juliet to see if she can get a rise from Cane.

Vic and Billy talk about her and he tells her he admires her, and she says that they clicked because she kept him focussed and he brought out her fun side.  They reminisce some more.  If these two are not getting back together then something is very wrong.  They go on and on about the past, praising each other, etc.  They go to their floor.  Vic tells him that she booked the San Diego trip for the family and he actually agrees to go.  Billy then goes into his room and finds Phyllis in his bed.

Previews:  Dina is on The Hilary Hour with Mariah and Devon, and Ash and Jack are watching from the Abbott Mansion.  Mariah says Dina is there to make a stunning announcement.  Hil sees Julie Chen, and says that she is one of her journalism heroes(?!), and that she has to meet her.

Yes, I think Dina is dying.  Her emotional reaction to seeing Jack, and the fact that he indicated he wants to see her, was the final indication for me.  Maybe Graeme is her personal physician.

Of course guitar girl is fleeing sex traffic and her little sis is lost (to be rescued in time to join the teen set as nu-Sharon) and son will - via Sharon's hotline - get involved with the evul trade. Bet Mariah goes undercover to get the story.... cause she's on TV and no-one's ever seen her.

Yup, partway through your first semester of an undergraduate psych course [as part of a degree in what? Selfosophy? Feather Duster Studies?], you're ready and equipped to help poor suffering people with what?

The very last person I'd like to answer me on a crisis line, would indeed be Sharon, who willingly leaves off her own  medication when she felt like it. ( eye roll)

Did I miss something?  Isn't Cricket the DA of GC?  Or did she go back to superFBI person?  How does her authority as (local government) DA give her the right to assign someone to a criminal case in the MidWest?  When did Cricket become Security Central?

The BS crew is still in LA for the big TV ad shoot.  Everyone is on set except for Billy, who is in bed with Phyllis, and Vic, who is waiting for Billy in the lobby.  Billy says he needs to go and Phyllis suggests they have lunch together.  He says that is not possible, he can’t blow the shoot, and he also tells Phyllis that Vic cannot know that she is in LA.  Billy meets Vic in the lobby and she tells him she talked to the kids about the zoo, and she talks about the trip, and he says: let’s just get through today first.

Hil is also still in LA and she lost whatever young starlet she was going to interview so, she is bitchy raging Hilary.  That is until she espies Julie Chen, her hero, and sets out to meet her.  Hil tells Chen that she is her role model.  She tells her about her nationally syndicated show and that is modelled on Chen’s show.  Really?  She asks for an interview, but Chen says she is too busy and that Hil would have to go through proper channels.  Seeing her disappointment, she invites Hil to watch the Talk live.

Jack is at home studying a photo of him and his mom when he was young.  It’s a framed photo, so not sure if it is displayed or he hides it in a drawer.  Ash enters and tells him about Dina and he lets her know that he already saw mom Dina at the Club, and Ash worries that he welcomed her with open arms.  He tells her that Dina wants to stay in GC for a while.  Ash is upset because she realizes it is Abby that Dina wants to get to know.  She wonders why Dina isn’t interested in Jack’s children or in Tracy.  Jack isn’t convinced that it is a bad idea for them to spend some time with her.  But he is intrigued and curious about why Dina sold to HW, of all the companies in the world.

Dina is at Devon’s penthouse with Devon and Neil.  Devon suggests they throw a party to celebrate the acquisition but Dina says no, and it is because it would upset her family. Devon comes up with an alternate plan.  Announce it on The Hilary Hour, because his best friend Abby (again, when did this happen?) watches it, and Jack does too, sometimes.  HAHAHA!!!

On set, Billy and Vic arrive and Cane snipes at Billy for being late.  Billy is pissed that the hockey players were escorted in by a PA, and Cane points out that was Billy’s job that he messed up, and he is right.  Cane’s job is this behind the scenes footage for the website.  Juliet informs everyone that the NHL wants final sign off on any footage before it gets posted and Cane says, no problemo.  Later Billy is joking around with the players about who is going to win a game and they joke about betting against their own team.  Now, I am pretty sure this is illegal in the sports world, so what do you think Cane is going to include in the footage?  But if he does, he really makes himself look bad, so I don’t get his plan here.

Hilary spots Phyllis on the rooftop.  Phyllis tells Hil she just needed a break from GC.  Then she tells her the truth and asks her to not tell anyone that she is in LA.  She tells her that she and Billy are back together, but she doesn’t want Vic to know she is in LA with Billy. Hil says she is too busy with her own stuff and she will keep her secret.

Mariah, once she knows about the Dina plan, contacts Hilary, and tells her about the interview, which Hil is pleased about. She is not too happy when she finds out it is happening today, with Mariah as the interviewer.  The interview goes ahead and somehow Dina talks about family and righting wrongs, and Jack and Ash are watching from the mansion.

Hil and the guy she is with, I guess the original owner of GC Buzz, are on the Talk set following the show. She corners Chen and appeals to her for an interview.  After much persistence, Chen agrees.  The interview is about her career, and how the ladies of the Talk get along off camera; and then Hil starts talking about her own co-host, or sidekick, and the strife between them.  Chen suggests that she start including her sidekick as a co-host and consider her input.

The shoot is over and everyone congratulates everyone.  Vic wants to have a drink with Billy, but he says he is too exhausted.  She presses him and he says okay, but he wants to go back to his room to freshen up.  HAHAHAHA!!   Vic says that they should just meet at the rooftop bar then.  Where of course Phyllis is spending the entire day.

Cane is still working on the BTS footage and directs the guy to cut the footage in such a way that there is no context for the gambling remark and the guy says, the edit changes the context.  So Cane pays him off!

Billy gets back to the room to let Phyllis know that he has to meet Vic, but she isn’t there.  She’s at the bar, and Vic walks in, but doesn’t see her.  Yet.

Previews:  Nick to Prick:  You want me to spy on my girlfriend and report back to you.  Hilary, doing a taping or live bit for The Hilary Hour, with Lily, and she cuts to the footage of the hockey players, and says, let’s see what the man himself has to say.  And the footage is the gambling convo, and the scene cuts to Vic, Billy, Juliet and Cane watching, and Vic looks stunned and looks at Billy.  It is still the same day so this is presumably all happening in LA.

So, if Dina's on the reunion trail, why the hell the sale of Mergeron story?  She could have just come back to town.

This is a gapping hole in the story. It makes no sense. You'd think she'd use it as a bargaining chip to get closer to her kids. Maybe offer a partnership with jabot to have a reason to work with them. 

 

But then I still don't know why Jack just had to have Fenmore's only to offer to sell it to Jill 3 weeks later.

Hi Preverts.  I have really liked once again doing the CDN recaps for you.  I will not be able to continue after this week.  Two reasons:  one, I need to focus on my job search, in earnest.  But, two, although I have my faithful readers who "like" each recap, and I know who you are and I appreciate you very much, that group is dwindling each week.  It's not that I am looking for love, but if the group reading or liking the recaps keeps dwindling, it tells me something.

You never know, I might bounce back in and do a random recap.  Last time I left it was cause I could not abide the Show.  I am not quite there this time ;)

Thanks, @boes.  I have never had to try to find a job.  In my entire career, I have been recruited.  So this is new, and interesting.  I am learning a lot through my career transition program.  I guess I should leave it there, and maybe move it to the small talk thread.  But I want you to know how much I appreciate your posts.  And, yes, I will be sticking around.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time wrapping the old grey matter around a 'nationally syndicated show' that pretty much caters to 'news' about what and who in GC exclusively.  Is the Nation that hard up for entertainment?  Why isn't Julie rushing to meet the latest, greatest new gossip show host?

Banana:  Love your recaps and stand in awe of anyone that can remember that much detail and report it objectively with subtle nudges of humor.  Good luck on the job hunt.  I never met an interview I liked, so I hope yours will go better and you wind up doing something you like.  Have you considered writing soap scripts =giggle=?

@MollyB, I would love to be a writer, but that isn't really my field.  Thanks for your kind words!  Also, thanks @PatsyandEddie and @peacheslatour.  If I were retired, I could continue but alas I must find work.  Stupid life getting in the way.

The BS crew are still in LA.  Vic is on the rooftop, as is Phyllis.  Hilary shows up and sees that they are both on the roof, so she distracts Vic so that Phyllis can escape.  Why on earth is Hil helping Phyllis?  This leads to Vic pitching an interview with Lily and to show the BTS footage.  I have never heard anyone get so excited about behind the scenes footage.  Hilary doesn’t actually want to do the interview because she says she is in LA to get some Hollywood interviews, but her sidekick, the former owner of GC Buzz, overhears and says yes.  He convinces Hil that it will be good for the show.  Hil is still pissed though and snipes about Lily in front of Jordan, and he says maybe she is jealous of Lily.

Billy is in his room when Phyllis returns and she wants to have sexy times and spend the evening, but he says he has a meeting.    

Vic tells Billy about the idea and he says it is great as long as they get approval of the BTS footage.  He presses Juliet to do so and she calls her League contact who signs off on it. 

Phyllis is in her room having room service, and goes to put the tray outside and spots Vic, so she quickly closes the door.  Vic doesn’t see her but she sees the door close and can tell someone is in the room.  She knocks, but Phyllis doesn’t answer. 

Billy and Vic talk about how great everything is and she compliments him for the 100th time about the hockey deal, and mentions again the trip to San Diego and he agrees to it.  She tells him someone was in his room, and he says it was housekeeping.

Billy returns to his room to tell Phyllis about the new plan for the live interview, and to cancel their plans for the evening, as well as the rest of their trip.  He also tells her that he and Vic are going to have a family vacation in San Diego.  She’s disappointed and says she wished she had known about the San Diego trip before she came to LA, but he says she surprised him.  She says: yes, I did, I won’t forget that. Phyllis doesn’t seem too happy.  But they decide to screw, which clearly will make Billy late for the interview.  He is so responsible.

Cane and Lily are not in the loop because they are talking about lobster risotto and their stroll on the beach, and are making plans for this evening. They both had turned their phones off, cause they figured their work day was done.  Really?  Juliet spots them and asks them why they are not in the lobby for the shoot.  And off they go.  The set is a remote for the Hilary Hour.  But I am confused.  We already saw today’s Hilary Hour about the big HW deal.  Does Hilary own the networks she airs on?  She can just break into regularly scheduled programming whenever she wants? 

Hilary’s sidekick puts the jump drive into the computer.  We actually are treated to a close up of the drive.  Anvillicious.

They start the interview and Hil and Lil snipe at each other.  Vic and Juliet are watching, and Vic wants to know where Billy is.  They are about to show the footage and we get a shot of Cane and Juliet; he says, what the hell are they doing, they can’t air this till the League approves it, and she says, I thought that it was.  He says, well, you are wrong, and looks worried.

Billy finally shows up, the interview already underway; Hil and Lil are viewing the BTS footage and talking about bagels and craft services.  Riveting TV.  Then Hil intros the footage with Billy and the players, and we see the conversation about betting.  And everyone’s face just drops, well, except for Hil, cause she says she wasn’t really paying attention, because she was thinking about those bagels, and she says to Lily:  so tell me who ate all the bagels, who was the guilty party?  I am not making this up.  Vic looks panicked, as does Billy, Cane looks worried, and Juliet looks surprised. 

Phyllis is in her room in bed and texts Billy that he was so damn hot and should hurry back.

Vic goes off on Billy and says, how could you talk to those players about gambling on professional sports? He says, hold on, it didn’t happen that way.   They were joking around, he says.  He says, there’s footage, we just have to get the video.  But Vic gets a call from Lenny at the League.

Billy asks Juliet why he was on camera, and why didn’t he know that.  She says the cameraman was shooting video all the time, and he knew that.  Vic returns, hopping mad, and tells Billy et al that the League people are furious that their athletes were shown talking about betting on the championship game.  Billy says he will fix it, and she says: there is no fixing it, the hockey deal is dead and all of this was for nothing.  Billy looks stunned and Cane looks worried.

So, I guess Cane wanted Vic to see footage of Billy doing dumbass things, but didn’t intend for that to be in the final cut.  It seems rather unlikely that anyone, and especially Vic, wouldn’t have viewed that footage themselves before it aired.

Back in GC, Prick is meeting with Scott to suss out what he has learned about his daughter’s activities.  She walks into the meeting and says, did they forget to include her.  Then she leaves to go to a meeting, which is at CL with one of her tech start-ups.  Prick meanwhile is grilling Scott, and he says he has found nothing, and asks for more info. Prick says that while he was away, Newman received payment for a property from a company he doesn’t know.  He is sure Abby knows what it is all about but she says doesn’t.  He wants Scott to find out.  Hey, I have an idea, Prick.  Why not get Tracy in accounting to call the company and ask them what the payment was for?  This happens in business all the time.  But no, we have to put up with Scott playing private eye on Abby.

Nick is at CL with Sharon.  They talk about Chelz wanting to find Chloe, and Nick wanting her to stop.  Sharon asks why he was so set on exposing Chloe, but now doesn’t want to find her.  And why suddenly did he bring Faith back home.  And why doesn’t Faith get to see Prick and have her chess lessons with him.  Nick dodges, but Sharon says she knows something is up and they are hiding something.

Chelz shows up at Newman and wants Prick to find out if his passport forger is the one who helped Chloe.  He says he will contact his guy.  He asks her to leave and she is outside his office listening when Scott sees her trying eavesdrop.  Prick calls her in and says his guy did not forge Chloe’s passport.  Chelz talks to Scott about the whole Chloe disappearing thing and he muses that maybe whoever helped her get out of the mental facility is the same one who helped her get out of town.  Chelz tells Scott she is going to pursue that idea; she is going to find Chloe’s accomplice and then she is going to find Chloe. 

Prick goes to see Nick to talk about Chelz.  He tells Nick to get Chelz to stop looking for Chloe.  Nick says, you want me to spy on my girlfriend and report back to you?  And Prick says, that’s right.  He warns Nick about what will happen to their family, and Nick says he is resigned to her finding out about everything.

Abby and tech guy ask Sharon’s opinion on the dating app, and she says people can fake their profiles blah blah.  I didn’t really listen to this but the important part was Abby says she wants a piece of tech guy’s company.

Previews:  Nick tells Chelz:  Go find Chloe, do whatever it takes to find her, you need this; Billy to Cane and Vic:  Jessie shot and edited all of this footage, and Cane says: it’s obvious you just want to pin this on him, and Vic says: get Jessie in here, we need to talk to him immediately.  Scott to Abby:  What school did you go to?  Oh yeah, I think it was the University of my Daddy just handed me this job.

I want to also give my thanks to you, bananna!  I always like to be spoiled (hee, hee) and I particularly like to know when Not Bogey and Not Bacall are doing their cutsy crap so I can try to avoid it.
