They always do this with the return of offscreen kids that have been living with the other parent who suddenly is revealed to be not a great parent and/or too preoccupied with their other kids and second spouse. Especially dad's who take kids away from their mothers when if it's the shoe on the other foot, moms can leave town with their kids with the dads left to just deal with it (See Sofia and Moses and Neil). The one way that makes it a 'no fault' return of a kid is if the custodial parent is ill and thinks it's best the child not be burdened with that and have proper attention paid to them by the non-custodial parent. On AMC Bianca wanted to be with Travis and he was all too happy to oblige, but when they wanted to bring her back suddenly life was hell with Travis and Barbara and Bianca had an eating disorder that only Erica could help her with and so Erica was finally restored as mother (and got early release from prison!) only after they trashed (and then killed ::sob::) Travis. JT's character was always going to have to fight the stigma of being a dad who 'took a child away from it's mother' and it was always going to be used when they needed to bring Reed back. That or JT was going to kick the bucket. I really thought it was progressive that JT was acknowledged as the primary caretaker parent and for once Victor's machinations didn't result in a bought win for the Newmans. Not saying Victoria isn't a good mom or that it was right that she lost custody of Reed, but she really wasn't any more stable in her life or more loving than JT and given the circumstances I can see how Reed would benefit with staying with Mac and JT over Billy and Victoria. Especially considering all the crap Billy and Victoria had been though. Can you imagine poor Reed being witness to all the crap Victor did to Billy, the immediate impact of loss of Delia, Billy moving in and out of the house? 7 Link to comment

Yet he's fine jumping into the mother who doesn't know him and didn't raise him (a stranger to him) house and her kids he doesn't know compared to the kids he lived with. It's like they're trying to rewrite the history and make JT bad, when Vicky lost custody for a reason. Her daddy! I'm having a hard time trying to understand how moving to GC instead of Poland is better regarding his schooling. Is he going to commute back to DC to spend his high school years with his friends he's had for years? Are the kids he didn't grow up with in GC going to suddenly have history with him? (My parents moved us from Ohio to Fla in my sophomore year. It was hell.) Better he be with family he knows than Victoria and her mess. I will never believe JT/Mac are the bad guys. 8 Link to comment

I guess Reed felt isolated in DC. All of their family were in GC. That is all the issue with writing characters away but then keeping one active like Reed. When big things happened like Delia and Katherine dying and only Reed showed up... that is a bad look. I dislike them writing JT to look bad but he looked bad on his way out so this just continuing it. It is lazy writing because they don't want to bother explaining things since JT and Mackenzie aren't making cameos anytime soon. They off to Poland without a care like they did with DC. jewel21 January 4, 2017 Share January 4, 2017 Well in yesterday's CDN, Reed mentioned an old childhood friend wanted to hang out. boes January 4, 2017 Share January 4, 2017 In normal circumstances, I'd be cheering Reed on for wanting to get away from the charmless and dour Mac. I think it was mostly due to the last actress who played her, but, while Mac was spotless in her virtue, she was so soul-crushingly judgmental, so devoid of any spark of humor and ohmygod so righteous that any child would be crushed under her Miss Gulch goodness. But, to run from Mac's rigid piety straight back into the Hellmouth of Victor and the superannuated spiritual jock itch of the Boy Band Badness of ButtBiscuit, nah, no contest - stay with Mac and JT. Let's rename the show The Newman and the Newmans. I feel sweet relief when the show pivots to Devon and his high-speed, high-impact pout party. I only wish he'd used Victor as a speed bump, but I understand why show didn't want to rupture that skin sac full of shit on daytime television. So Dylan went out like a punk ass pine cone. Couldn't he have been called back into the Special Farces (Firces?) or something slightly more logical than what we got? The birch bumpkin isn't infiltrating a Miami drug gang. He just isn't. Nay. My days of being excited for this new regiment is coming to a middle for damn sure. The new powers that be have wasted no time in showing Det. Plywoid and Dr. Liar McLiarpants the door and put an unceremonious end to the second worst pairing in recent history. All good things, but neither Sally Sussman nor Kay Alden have a gift for pacing or story planning thus far. How does one trip on a shitty carpet get milked into a MONTH of storyline? What a snorefest....I care more about the damn car that Devon ruined with his poor judgment than Devon himself. Oddly, the only thing that holds my interest theses days are the scenes with Faith. She's the best damn manipulator the show's seen since before Phyllis took a ride on Nick's banana boat. Being the center of a custody battle is nothing new for her, but it doesn't feel nearly as shoehorned in like the Delia scenes did right before she was killed off. On the shallow side, I really dig Victoria's new set. As I type this, I realize it's been a looooooong time since she's had a place of her own, and the bright modern colors made for a nice visual contrast to the longer standing sets (ie, Sharon's cabin, Victor's office, ect) that haven't changed much since the 90s. 6 Link to comment

jewel21 January 6, 2017 Share January 6, 2017 This show is boring and nothing is really happening. Devon wakes up and naturally doesn't remember the whole night of the gala. He's madly in love with Hilary and senses tension between her and Lily but Hilary deflects all of his questions and concerns. Lily wants to tell Devon the truth but Stitch warns them all that Devon is still in delicate condition and is not to be upset or stressed so Lily has to bite her tongue. Neil warns Hilary that eventually Devon will know the truth. Jack wants to invest in Fenmore's but Ashley again reminds him that Fenmore's is more than just a store to Lauren. It's her father's legacy, much like Jabot is to the Abbots. Jack goes to speak with Lauren but she turns him down. She wants a silent investor. Gloria, who found out about Fenmore's dire financial situation after spying on Lauren's laptop, had decided she's going to help Lauren out, and she congratulates Lauren on how she handled Jack. However, by the episodes end, Gloria calls up Jack saying she knows how to get him Fenmore's. Vicky is feeling overwhelmed by Reed, who won't return any of her texts and is blaring his music. It also doesn't help that he's bonding with Billy. Reed blows a fuse and Vicky is forced to call on Billy to fix it, much to Reed's satisfaction. Sharon keeps having to convince others that her relationship with Dylan is fine and they are not getting divorced. Nick has feelings for Chelsea and is trying to fight them because he doesn't want to risk their friendship. Gloria is broke thanks to Jeffrey, and wants her old job back at Chelsea 2.0, but Sharon now holds that position. Gloria makes a comment about mental hospitals, and decides to offer Lauren her services after seeing how badly her company is doing. Gloria also doesn't understand why Lauren is keeping this from Michael. And that's all I remember. 10 Link to comment

pearlite January 7, 2017 Share January 7, 2017 Take a moment for a Pollyanna moment with me here--it's a new year, and I'm grasping. I enjoyed the Jack and Gloria interchange; it was an actual sparring match, with veiled threats/references to the characters' histories, and both actors were on point. Sort of enjoyed Ravi inheriting Phyllis' office and loving it--he manages humour pretty well. Exit Pollyanna. The attempts, however well-intended and dictated by JT's contract, to recreate Rockabilly, aren't working at all for me. He's doing nothing but waxing stale cliches about raising teenagers. And, while I'm nattering about Phyllis' office, who the hell has that quantity of paper files today? Not I, and as an academic/admin, I have a lot of docs to manage. No paper, just keys and secure uploads. Lauren, I can't even comment on--aging miniature hooker from some time-warp zone? 8 Link to comment
jewel21 January 9, 2017 Share January 9, 2017 I only semi-watched Friday's episode earlier today. I don't recall much because I was kind of pre-occupied. Here's what I managed to retain. Lauren finally tells Michael the truth about Fenmore's. He's a tad upset Lauren didn't fill him in sooner but they're okay. Lauren thinks she found an investor. Phyllis and Billy run into each other at Crimson Lights and have a chat. I kind of tuned it all out. Reed is frustrated that Victoria doesn't know him at all and seems to think he's still a little kid who likes snowball fights and hot chocolate. Gloria meets up with Jack and says she thinks Jack would be the best alternative for Fenmore's and she'll try and get Lauren on board in exchange for working at Jabot. Jack makes her no promises. And that's all I recall. 11 Link to comment
bannana January 10, 2017 Share January 10, 2017 Today was pretty stupid and boring. Such a disappointment. Do I really have to be subjected to Grandpa Pricktor teaching Faith to be a bigger brat than she already is? And Stepford Drinki lapping it up? And idiot Dick, just being an idiot? And worse, Chloe flashed Kevin in the police station, and he says it's a workplace, they have rules against that sort of thing. Actually, Chipmunk Brain, it's a POLICE STATION! And indecent exposure is against the law. Sigh. Of other significance, Gloria, for reasons not clear to me cause I half watched, decided to torpedo Lauren's deal with an investor. Of course, said investor seems pretty stupid for plenty of reasons, but that is pretty nasty of Gloria. Is she going to take over for Prick as the character who will rain misery on their family members? Also, Lauren said today that the biggest decision she regrets is not telling Michael about her problems at Fenmores. Really, Lauren? What about that little fling with Carmine? 10 Link to comment

miamama January 10, 2017 Share January 10, 2017 I think Gloria's motivation is wanting to be a big player. Lauren will not hire her, she is broke and no one really wants her around. With Jack she gets to play saviour. I do think we are to believe she thinks Jabot would be helpful to Fenmores (she said Lauren won't let Jack help because she's "too proud") rather than that Jack just wants to fuck Lauren over (hence her "you are John Abbott's son" comment). Gloria always had a soft spot for the Abbotts. Being Mrs. John Abbott was the only time she was the high society woman she always wanted to be. I do enjoy seeing writing that attempts to show character motivation, I must say. Even if it doesn't always convince. Sally is treating her audience with respect. It shows. 10 Link to comment

And then the idiotic scenes with these billionaires unable to hire childcare or handle household issues. IRL, people with money have people who do these things for them. It's an entire industry out there. It might be fun to show that, sort of an Upstairs/Downstairs storyline. Mariah appears to play that role for Sharon, for example, although not totally. He's never going to be a redeemable character for me and he ruins everyone around him, Nikki, most of all. And I resent that. Katherine, in her latter years, was damaged for me, by her caring more for him and his wants than she did her own family. When she didn't give two fucks about what he did to Billy and Victoria on their wedding day - Billy, who had recently been her grandson - I almost disliked her. What was worse, for a while, I disregarded her. In the long run, nobody and nothin' can ruin Katherine Chancellor, but Victor came close. Billy is a pustule, a boil, a pimple on the unwashed backside of Y&R, (at least the Jason Thompson version is). But Victor is a pollutant who infects everything he touches. Anna Yolei January 10, 2017 Share January 10, 2017 I'm wholeheartedly with you with Dickolas. I mean, even aside from having the money to get a nanny, he has more family than he can shake a stick at to pitch in, including two adult children who can either watch him or cover him around the bar. jewel21 January 11, 2017 Share January 11, 2017 This show is so boring. Look, I like characterization. I like that all the actors are showing their history, and interacting with one another again. But, everyone once in awhile, I need a building to topple over. Victor hurt his arm at the gym. He wants to step away from Newman and focus on his family. Abby wants to run Newman one day. She asks Victor if she can take the lead on some deal. Victor not only says yes, but lets her use his office and sit in his chair. Abby not only seals the deal, but she gets an even better price than they had hoped for. Victor is pleased as punch. Faith had a great time sleeping over at Daddy's house. She wants to build a fort and have Nick make her chocolate chip pancakes but then Christian starts crying and her face falls. When Nick comes down with the baby, Faith is eating cereal. Nick says he'll make her pancakes but she has to leave for school. Nick gets pelted with baby food. Nikki comes over with two potential baby sitters. Nick is at first insulted, but Nikki said she was just hoping to move the process along. Nick likes one and hires her. He then puts her to use right away and runs off to do something. Sharon shows up at the police station and demands to speak to her husband. Christine and Paul try explaining to her that she can't. Sharon doesn't want to hear it and is even more pissed when she finds out Kevin is in on the case. Paul tries to speak with Sharon privately to get her to understand. Sharon goes home and tells Mariah that Dylan is undercover and unreachable. Sharon is going to get Dylan killed at this point. Dylan is undercover and sporting a goatee. He meets up with Alex who turns out to be a woman. She shows him a baggie and asks if he wants to go upstairs. And that's all I can recall. 11 Link to comment
PatsyandEddie January 11, 2017 Share January 11, 2017 If Sharon ends up being responsible for Dylan's death, I will stop watching. Last straw and all that. 10 Link to comment
NinjaPenguins January 11, 2017 Share January 11, 2017 You know, I don't really need to see a tree with terrible facial hair playing detective. Just tell us that Dylan is going undercover, leave his fate an open-ended mystery if you want him to return, and stop already. I know this is just a soap, but if this is the best it can do with a crime story? Don't even bother. Also, I'm not watching Y&R for cheesy sitcom-level fare where a baboon adopts a human baby and wacky hijinks ensue. Oh noes! The elder human child is jealous! But here comes Grammy with some handy dandy babysitters! Will this Full (of shit) House style plot be resolved with a dose of warm treacle and hugs? I don't give a fuck! Go embrace your gnarled and rotted Newman roots, Abby. 15 Link to comment
Gloriole33 January 11, 2017 Share January 11, 2017 Jewel, I have never given you a "like" for any of your precaps. That's because I don't like them. I love them. You are indeed a jewel. 9 Link to comment
bannana January 11, 2017 Share January 11, 2017 I am really hoping Alex is transgender. I cannot comment anymore on Derek Jason Morgan. Please send Faith to Rexx Ruggs. Or at least to Boarding School. 7 Link to comment
