Ryan is being sued for “recklessly” causing an August 2018 car crash, the victims of which are demanding $290,000 for their suffering.

Tennessee residents James and Janet Byrne filed a complaint against Ryan in July 2019, claiming Ryan “negligently and recklessly” rear-ended James with his 2018 Ford pickup truck. James alleges Ryan “violently” struck his 1997 Nissan pickup truck while it was stopped at a red light. In court papers obtained by The Sun, James blames several things for the crash, including Ryan being distracted, and Ryan’s dog being present.

I did think he was good looking back in the day.

He was. He really spiraled out of control. I always knew Adam (Chelsea’s ex from TM2) was always a piece of shit, but the first 1-2 seasons I thought Ryan was lazy regarding parenting and ill matched with Maci but I never expected drug addiction, or domestic violence. Of course these things happen to people from all walks of life, but when Bentley was a baby I expected Ryan to be a “fun dad” who would be in his life consistently but leave the heavy lifting to Maci/his parents, I did expect him to stay employed, he was the second to last of the parents to not have any more kids (Farrah still only has Sophia).

Although his parents are awful enablers, I do feel badly that they have to see their only child walking this path.

That’s a cute puppy in the photo!

Poor Mackenzie! I hope she and the kids stay safe. How very frightening. I wonder if she has somewhere else she can stay until the house can get someone fixed. I wouldn’t want the kids to have to see that.

Young Ryan was handsome (looks are subjective, of course) and he had a bright future ahead of him, despite having a baby at a young age.

I think he was one of the few teen dads who had a good job. He worked as a diesel mechanic.

Ryan's parents seemed very nice but I think they might have spoiled him.

I’d say enabled?

Yes. I’m very sensitive to calling people with bad behavior (and in this case criminal behavior) “spoiled”. I admit I have been called “spoiled” in my life because I have had a nice lifestyle and the privilege of material things (never mind I was the one running the household and providing caregiving duties for two disabled people - my grandfather and my sister but I digress). So I’m defensive. To me the spoiled ones never had to be in charge of the baths, toileting and tantrums.

Of course if someone is an only child with parents with a nice income is going to have more material items than someone who’s family has less resources and more mouths to feed.

Ryan wasn’t “spoiled”- he wasn’t a good kid who did his duty to the family (his parents and Bentley) and they bought him nice things. Ryan was enabled to be a criminal and neglect his duties towards his child. He didn’t make a few mistakes that didn’t hurt people (like a bad financial choice that his parents helped him with). Or paid his child support when he was in between jobs out of love for their grandchild.

For YEARS I assumed Ryan had a TBI or a health issue of some kind (after his four wheeler accident). I couldn’t believe Ryan’s parents were “a-ok” with his not working or taking care of Bentley. But no Ryan is a drug abuser and an awful human. His parents have enabled his bad behavior by continuing to support him financially but they didn’t teach him to do THIS. They have taken care of him, they didn’t teach him to treat his wife or children this way. I am sure it is very painful for them.

But in their position Ryan would have to leave my home. They’ve given him chance after chance and he’s been messing up for years. I’d give him a cell phone and the option for rehab if he wanted to get better, but I would cry, and try to protect my grandchildren.

I remember Ryan's father complaining that his wife treats Ryan as a little princeling and that Ryan always comes first in their family (way ahead of the dad).

I was like, well then, kick him out and let him grow up.

It might have been the best thing they could have done for him.

Ryan's mom seems very sweet but a bit of a doormat.

I remember Maci would dump all her kids on her (on top of Bentley) so she could go on her Mud Runs.

Larry has a nasty temper though. Jen had Ryan pretty young (22 or 23), and I think it's been implied they got married because Jen was pregnant. I would bet in the early days Larry went out and did his thing while Jen stayed home with Ryan, and it became a vicious cycle of resentment on both sides- Jen feeling like Larry was dumping all the work on her, while Larry felt like Jen was all about Ryan.

By the time Larry publicly tried the tough love approach (coincidentally after Ryan's addition and poor treatment of people directly impacted Larry), Ryan was like 25, and Jen was undermining his efforts anyways. Perhaps he truly tried when Ryan was younger, but I'd wager he mostly left the child rearing to Jen.

I think Jen loves kids and loved Maci up until their big falling out, but is a very poor disciplinarian and most definitely an enabler.  I don't much like Maci, but I believe her that she is truly afraid of Bentley turning out like Ryan if the Edwards' are allowed too much influence.

I could see this. Again, I do feel badly for Ryan's parents because nothing they have done makes me think they taught him 'THIS' was okay. Its not. But they have enabled him to high heaven and it should've stopped LONG ago.

Remember when Adam (Chelsea's ex from TM2) broke his current girlfriend's arm and she was able to get away from him and file a restraining order. Yet they were just "a-ok" with Adam not following custody guidelines and having him hang around Aubree. I get not wanting Ryan to be homeless (he is their son), but I wonder if he has threatened his mom or broken things in their house too. That is BALLSY. Destruction of someone's property is always wrong, but have heard of jilted lovers burning clothes and breaking shit (like in Waiting to Exhale), but Ryan destroyed the home is CHILDREN live in, they cannot go back there with it looking like that? If someone would do that, their anger is out of control and they are not safe to be around.

I now worry for Jen, because she would never kick Ryan out and he might hurt her in one of his rages and then feel guilty.

Ryan leaving rehab and coming home early has also angered his current “employer,” MTV.

“MTV basically paid for Ryan to go to this rehab in Texas,” a behind-the-scenes source tells The Ashley. “They footed the bill [for rehab] in exchange for Ryan agreeing to film while inside rehab. Now that he’s left, all that money spent is basically just wasted.”

Oh MTV. Stay classy.

Also, that was one stupid bet to make, MTV.

There are some pictures here of the damage Ryan did to his house. Worse than I had imagined. Sad for the kids.  Also his arrest video is here.

Good Lord!!!

I thought he just punched a hole in the wall (not that punching anything is good).

He totally trashed that home and I have no idea if insurance covers stuff like this.

I hope everyone is safe.

Did anyone catch what was written in blue? Starts out, 'Told Me You Where at (think he meant were) Something Something Crazy'.

I am terrified for Mac and their kids. Disgusting as that house was, I am glad it was the house that took the brunt of his rage and not Mac or the kids, but it could easily be them next time. I hope they stay out of his reach forever.

And not to make light of the situation, but count on Ryan to not even bother to change his spray paint splattered boots before denying the spray painter was him.

He was never the brightest bulb in the bulb box.

All this is so sad and scary.

I had a pop up this morning about Ryan's latest arrest and was coming here to share it but I see you're on top of it. It truly is tragic- all snark aside. I mean he really is continuing to go down that path. No matter how much his parents may have enabled his behaviors in the past, my heart breaks for them as this is truly something I pray I never know first hand.

On a lighter note, I think Mackenzie looks better with the dark hair. I think that outfit is pretty trashy and fits the aging alcoholic country star but I think the darker hair suits her.

Yes that is what I am concerned with. Items can be fixed, if he hurt Mac or the kids or the pets, or his parents- that is not fixable. That he would do that, I wouldn't go anywhere near him. I feel so badly for his children.

The bizarre thing is that Ryan has been doing heroin for at least a decade, I think. He was dabbling in some kind of drugs as far back as the Dalis years, but other than the reported incident with the cats, which I am not sure was ever officially confirmed, I don't remember any stories of him being violent, especially to people. He always seemed too lethargic and apathetic. Yet it seems like he has gone from 0 to 60 in the last year, unless he always was this way and no one talked about it, which I guess is possible.

ETA: I forgot Maci got a restraining order against him back in 2018 after he threatened her.

And again, not trying to make light of the situation, but the other truly bizarre thing? They arrested him at work. He has (had) a job.

Maybe his parents finally cut him off and he is about to lose everything?

Also Mac leaving him may be a trigger. Also he is older now, the drugs may have a different affect on him. Add in he may owe money to people to fuel his habit, who knows.

OH I remember his girlfriend Dalis, she was around awhile?

I apologize if this is an insensitive question but how long can a heroin addict live?

The good thing is that he might be forced to clean up while in jail.

With anything else there are outliers, but many people have addictions but stay functional enough (or are enabled by others) to get their basic needs met. Assuming he doesn't overdose or isn't harmed by people he could live a typical human lifespan still suffering with this. But there is a reason there are few elderly people in the active throws of addiction, not only the physical ramifications, but the social, mental and emotional ones.

I wonder what the younger children have been told. They are still little but old enough to know something isn't right.

I took a look at the article with the photos. So he did destroy the children's things. I fully believe he threatened Mackenzie (like he did Maci). I am glad she has her family for support and she stays safe. This is very tragic for the kids, Maci/Mackenize (who wants to have a child with someone like this??) and Ryan's parents (in that order).
