Okay, who's in?  We have a gorgeous estate in Marrakech, a model who is in a snit over being told to eat a cheeseburger, a wife who has found the ugliest-full-coverage-swim outfit ever to have her community bath in, a pair of male friends whose story I can't remember, a pair of female twins who are already annoying, some Vegas friends (engaged 13 times? I mean, WTF?) and a rich bragging guy. Who'm I missing?

 

This is going to be some craptastic trainwreck stuff, right here!!

The naked concierge has to be one the yummiest eye candy I've seen in a long time. I hope he finds a chance to be naked often.

So far I like the sisters and the wall street guy.  Immediate dislike of the divorcee and the late arriving peeps.  Wifey bugged me at the bathhouse with all her attention seeking, look at what I'm wearing crap.

I found wifey annoying in terms of questioning the validity of the hamburger statement repeatedly. With the attention seeking at the bathhouse, my first thought was that she was doing that to try to deflect from the fact that she was uncomfortable.

That's funny, because I felt the woman tour guide, Rachel, was pretty chill and the black tour guide was all "look at me". You know, finding a chance to be naked whenever possible and photographing it.

Besides if someone telling you that you need to eat a hamburger upsets you, you have no problems in your life.

I sensed that she was just upset the this large black woman has a white husband, I've seen women like her before.

I'm in. Watching the repeat now. My will have to re watch to catch it all. But yeah model bugs. I'm a chunky black woman and could relate to the wife and her theatrics. It was total deflection of how uncomfortable she was. Firstly they couldn't even provide a robe big enough for her so she couldn't go naked period. That is humiliating. I've been there. I once got a massage at a place tha catered to both men and women and the production made over trying to find me an xl robe was humiliating. And I'm not that fucking big. Needless to say I have not been back for a message and I wrote a scathing review of their spa services on yelp. That one 'little' thing ruined my whole day and experience. I couldn't take a shower after the massage because the showers were down the hall and I had no proper coverage. I had to go home after the massage to freshen up so I could finish out my day without feeling like an oil slick. /end rant.

I thought I recognized Heather, the Vegas one, from a show about shopping addicts and Google confirms it's the same woman. When she was on that show, there was zero mention of her beauty business or having made a million by 21; she was living (and living idly, no mention of work of any kind) off a large inheritance she got from her grandmother, and we were led to believe that was her only income - she saw a financial adviser who told her she'd be out of money in a few years if she didn't stop spending. That article does mention her beauty business so the truth is somewhere in between, probably.

 

I would never go on reality tv unless I got free travel out of it (The Amazing Race, etc.). I wish I had more money to travel; if I ever became never-work-again, can-do-anything-I-want wealthy, I'd travel around the world. I'm sure I'm going to see some ugly American behavior and it's going to piss me off (the one who said she eats the same three foods every day is already on my nerves for that; you can eat healthy and still have some variety in your diet, goddamn), but I'll watch a couple of episodes of this.

 

The finance guy needs to quit with the dye job. You're not fooling anyone, friend.

I watched the show Saturday because I was procrastinating but I liked it. I think the black woman was very uncomfortable about her body, which is why she made such a production out of what she was wearing. I went to the hammam at the Paris mosque and it was heaven. They have separate days for women and none of the women--fat, thin, pregnant, whatever, had any body issues, which was refreshing and it was such a wonderful experience. People go and spend a good portion of the day and it's very communal, which is lovely if you're on your own as I was. Can't wait to go again. 

 

Also, the food looked amazing. I know there's going to be some drama, but the travel porn as you guys have put it will be worth it!

So, we are not even four days into this trip and one person is sick, the twins have lusted and soured on the investment dude, luggage has been lost, the model mother has been offended by both a fellow traveler and by native peoples' treatment of animals, and one nitwit wants only to sit by the pool - any pool worldwide - and bitch about the bad internet. Oy, it's gonna be a long 40 days! Why didn't I know about the casting call for this show? I would love to travel around the world first class; I wouldn't bitch or complain, but I probably would get sick.....I tend to do that on vacations thanks to my Americanized GI tract.

I didn't see it that way at all. I don't think race had anything at all to do with it.

 

Just as it would be unkind and rude to tell the man's wife to put down the fork for once in her life it is wrong to tell a thinner person to go grab a hamburger. Genetics or by choice, thin or fat it's nobody's business but one's own.

 

I've seen women of all races who are like the wife who will back up or minimize bad behavior. If she had any guts or honor she would have set her husband straight and said he should apologize. "Hey, you are married to a bigger woman and plenty of people would take the opportunity to knock me and you would hate it and find it hurtful. You would call them on it and want them to apologize. You need to do the same and apologize." I guarantee you if anyone on the show made a comment about her weight to the wife would be just as pissed off and hurt especially after seeing her discomfort at the hammam.  At the least she could have said to the woman "I'm sorry you were hurt, the comment was uncalled for." She could have whispered to her husband under her breath "Appologize, she's hurt." and many would have held her in higher esteem.

The female tour guide does seem a bit "Look at me" but I wonder if she is doing it to bring people out of their cocoon and experience what traveling can offer. I'd love to see a bit of her rub off on the Las Vegas Diva who was complaining about her flat iron while in the bush and who's first response is "No". I hope she learns more about the world she lives in.

I'm a big woman who would totally strip down in a mixed-sizes crowd of women and be comfortable with it --- but in a tour group of American women, all size 4 and smaller? Oh hell no. Then again, I wouldn't have worn a 1880s swim outfit and made a big deal out of it, either.

 

The safari looked amazing. I would NOT have wanted to see the lions take down the buffalo (and I was covering my eyes to see if they would or not), either. And, if I were in a car of people who wanted to chit chat instead of listen to the sounds on the nature preserve, listen to the animals, and just enjoy the awe of the moment... well, Ugly American I would become!!!

 

Anyone else hoping that the twin and banker dude would be eaten by said lions while they were "romping" around the camp, squealing and making all kinda "look at us!" noises?  Hmmmmmmmmmm, I sound grumpier about noise than I normally am.....

Rachel, the female tour guide is legit royalty. If I read it right her father is Queen Elizabeth's second cousin. Google Rachel Grant, she has a Wikipedia page.

I agree that Jetta was uncomfortable and it probably had to do with her size versus the sizes of the other women and that's why she was deflecting at the bath. I also agree that her husband should've apologized for the burger comment. I don't think he meant it maliciously, some guys seem to think saying stuff like that to a thin woman is some sort of compliment; it's not.

I almost feel like Jetta and her husband (forgot his name) have been situated to be the odd people out. They seem older and very different in personality than all the rest. The rest are mostly "party people" and they're more mellow. They don't really seem like people normally cast for this kind of thing but maybe the real drama is coming.

Model mama was sensitive to the comment about the hamburger, but it was inappropriate. If she was fat, and he said "you better lay off those hamburgers" it would be wildly accepted as socially inapproriate, but tell a skinny girl to eat, people think it is ok, its not. His wife made it so much worse on the bus. Just own it, apologise, and its done.

 

 

I don't get this comment.  You know why it's socially inappropriate to say something about a larger woman?  Because people realize that thinner women have more privilege in this world than heavier women.  I've been thin and I've been thick, and the sad truth is that thin gets you more positive attention.  I think there have been studies that say thinner women are more desirable, thinner people get more jobs, make more money, etc.  You can't equate being thin with being fat.  There's no comparison.  I think the model just wanted something to complain about.  

 

As for the racial issue, my point was that model mom think she's all that because the's thin and privileged.  She sees a heavier women with a husband, a heavier black woman, and probably copped an attitude.

Hee! me too,and  I'm old, to boot. I went to a fancy spa with my mother for a week in the 80's. I wasn't fat then but I was "cuddly", not toned, and we were all stripping down all over the place for treatments, massages, and whatnot. There's just no room for modesty and its all women anyway. That said, I would definitely be very uncomfortable doing so while being filmed. To be shown on TV. Jetta handled it badly and now it seems she's gotten off on the wrong foot.

 

I just can't with these people though, really. Most of them are pretty unlikeable. I'm only watching for Sandhurst.

It might be perceived to be easier tobe thinner but telling someone to "eat hamburger" is a dickish insult meant to put the person down which is rude and why I thought the woman was a annoyed.

As for him being a white guy married to a black woman, I don't see any evidence of that. She only got annoyed when the wife denied that he had said it which since he did say it's beyond annoying.

No one likes to be insulted about their appearance.

There's literally no evidence of this. If you're saying the model MUST think that way because she's white, and you're basing that opinion solely on her being white, then that's racially predjudiced thinking.

I find it interesting that folks are so offended at the hamburger comment, when no one mentioned what the gay man said about the interracial couple.  He said in his TH that when he saw them the husband "doesn't look like he'd be attracted to black girls."  As a black "girl" I was very offended at that ignorant comment.  What did that mean anyway?

Finally watched the second episode while model and beauty girl had a point they didn't need to be so dramatic about it. I also thought the tour guides handled it all wrong. Just say okay and let the issue drop instead of arguing about it but this is a Bravo show.

I have actually stayed at the Kasbah Angour! So that was fun to see.

The twins are earning there reality check with the ridiculous triangle.

One day I might learn someone's name! But I am mainly in it for the travel, so far I have been everywhere they have gone so it's cool to revisit.

Oh right he talked about his husband at the end of the second episode. I swear I might have to go back and watch the intros because I have no idea about any of the guys except that two have had near death experiences!

For the life of me I can't imagine what a white guy who marries/dates a black woman "looks like" or how he behaves. I have heard of many dating sterotypes most of them ignorant and not true in my experience but I have never heard that one.

I missed that comment as well! Apparently, I miss all bitchy suspect comments unless they are captioned and revisited at a later date!

Model woman will probably annoy me based on previews but she got over the hamburger comment and got along with J/J (can't remember their names but I know they both start with J) and called out "beauty" chick about being a dumb diva drama queen and got her to go on the safari in a way that even the chick could joke about later! Also, their back and forth about peeing outside with model shocked that she had never peed outside and asked where she grew up and she responded "a place with toilets!" cracked me up.

On the bathroom front I will say I have seen a lot of people bitch, bawl, and insist they can't do it about hole in the floor toilets or having to go outside but all of these women, even the high maintenance ones, just laughed and did their buisness.

I think making the issue with the model and Jetta & husband about race is quite a stretch. There's nothing to support it and is just an assumption at this point. As much as the model bothers me, painting someone with a racist brush, at this point, is quite disconcerting. Opinions vary and all that, but that's quite a bold statement to make.

I am white. I would hope that I wouldn't be regarded at racist because of this.

Jetta was overcompensating about her outfit at the hammam (sp?) for sure, but we need to remember that this thing was filmed so it's not just being uncomfortable about being a heavy woman among thin and fit women, but being in that situation ON FILM. Hell, I'm not heavy but I don't have a model perfect body and I wouldn't want to be in that situation.

Regarding the model, she was once very good friends with Brandi Glanville. I can absolutely see that, given what we've already seen of her personality. Her ex is

Brandi's guy friend who she "pretend" married in Vegas some years back. The model has been giving interviews about it lately.

I like Michelle the model (so far) but I can´t stand Jetta. No thin person I know likes it when people comment rudely about their body (sometimes it goes so far as to be about them having some disease like bulimia), and I think it was fair of Michelle to make sure straight away that she would not be spending the trip hearing stuff like that maybe over and over again. I think the guy meant it as a compliment though, like here he is, a guy who is into women with some padding, and she is so thin that she doesn´t have to worry about what she eats so she should. Like he said on the bus, it was a misunderstanding. Sandhurst is god-like. I´m still not sure how I feel about the other people, they mostly seem okay. I really hope that we won´t have to see much animal cruelty or hear them making cultural excuses for it, that would basically ruin the show for me. I like watching other people travel and do new things, I´d love to go shopping at the old market and walk/drive around Marrakesh, but I get freaked out when I see them eating strange new things, hehe, and I would never go to that naked, communal bath. I´m sure it´s all great if you´re into it, but I would much rather just watch it on my tv.

Our personal and vicarious experiences shape our perceptions and all of our opinions are valid, even if we disagree.

Re: Brandi- the woman is a user and a manipulator, she gets around. Plus, these two are about the same age, so their modeling cohort is probably fairly small, everyone knows everyone (especially in reality tv world).

I think that this show will bring about some very interesting and diverse opinions on the boards, given the exposure to different cultures and world views.

is there any chance of separating this show thread into different episodes, like all the other shows?

I'd like that too, but it seems like this board is very slow :( Maybe if viewership picks up?

Does anyone know why there isn't another new episode until May? I went to set my DVR and couldn't find it. I went on the Bravo page and it says to join them for the next new episode May 10th. Why in the world would they show 2 episodes and then wait 2 months for the rest?

Sounds like they have pulled it to do a massive retooling due to bad ratings/ reviews. Just speculation on my part.
