Just because Rachel doesn't wear it daily now doesn't mean you should, Mika.

Also, isn't she at home now?  Like, where her literal wardrobe(s) is located filled with a 2-decades-long TV show host's compilation of outfits?  She wore the blazer two days ago, but it was buttoned.  Today she doesn't button it and threw it on over a "lily pulitzer supports Ukraine" top.  She looks like she gets dressed by a Rube Goldberg automated contraption that bounces her out of bed and puts random clothes on her and force feeds her toast.  Like in Wallace and Gromit.

Oakville - fantastic idea; I am sure there is a market/niche for a book like this. And it could come with the DVD!   It would be fun to come up with the title.  And the description of Joe as a trained seal - spot on and hilarious.  Do this!!!! Maybe they would have you on the show to promote. 😎

KI would love to be on Morning Joe. I would be like Russell Brand when he went on and mocked Mika  & Katy Kay. That clip went viral !

I tuned in around 9; Meeka looked fabulous.  It is amazing what wearing tops that fit and some color can do.  I think she may even have had a necklace on with the inevitable scarf.    But.  Yes, there is a but. The top was so pretty...lots of Easter egg colors...however, it was jarring to see it in a morning news setting. It clashed with the background. But I guess Show is going for the "coffee klatch" vibe at 9 - and when they are out of their home studio - it can work.  Meeka seems like a hostage when they broadcast from the bunker. It's a whole different show.

Wow, that was the best 15 minutes ever on the show.  Jonathan Haidt's segment was brilliant.  They let him go and asked useful questions.  Fascinating.  Illuminating.
https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2022/05/social-media-democracy-trust-babel/629369/

But resident wokester Eddie Glaude riled the waters a bit.  He asked Haidt "Wait a minute, this phrase "far left" does a lot of work.  What is that?  Who are they?  People looking for a living wage?  People upset at the wealth of Bezos?"  and Haidt answered that it's more a style of righteous online aggression and abuse than a location on the political spectrum.  That quieted Glaude until the end, when he threw a kind of an obtuse, unrelated woke grenade about the need now more than ever before to discuss ending the hegemony of power wielded by "white cisgendered males."   Which Joe took as a personal affront, and then accused Glaude of silencing dissenting voices in his classrooms and apparently throwing conservative students out of class or college.  I'm not sure any of what Joe said is at all true.  Probably invented this with his pals while sipping aged single malts on ice cubes made of liberal students' tears in his leathery country club.

Really interesting article. Thanks for posting the link.

Wish I had seen the segment, but I don’t have the patience to sit through hours of mediocrity for the occasional gold nugget.

I've been away so Happy Easter & Passover & Ramadan to everyone - all weirdly and beautifully coinciding this year!! love and happiness to all

catching up bc of traveling for the holidays -

First of all Monday! They are in studiooooo!

I am here for this shirt on Mika. Who made thisssss, I wanna know. It's giving me this kinda symmetrical peaceful spiritual feeling you get from looking at Hilma Af Klint paintings *chef's kiss*

Yasha Mounk came on and I am now officially obsessed with his podcast. I freakin love podcasts. I can't say this enough, podcasts right now have the creativity and freedom and intelligence and non-stooping to the lowest denominator of dumbness that we all *wish* tee-vee could be with images, if they were brave and stopped being boring and edited and self-effacing and self-erasing

Joe says he believes in Madisonian democracy bc federal judges pushed back in one particular instance ---> okay, but he fails to account for generational changes within the federal judiciary. Probably the pushback came from people who had one foot rooted in old-school normality and justice and the other foot in Teh New World Order. Given some recent appointees ---> what will all of this look like for all of us, in a generation? Never mind that the system (barely) holds now, how the fuck given the current landscape is it gonna hold in the future?

It's like Joe's brain can't process time, and change, and the scary shit that comes with it

The system is holding because there is still Institutional Memory. What happens when Institutional Memory is gradually erased with the new appointments? And whatever is left of it is either radicalized or interpreted out of context?

Anyhoo I always wanna end on a positive note: I love Mara Gay. When she was on the other day she was like...gently but incredibly competently pushing back on Eric Adams *in person* and I was like yessss!!! She was so razor sharp and smart and obviously made him a little uncomfortable, but in a really really healthy and necessary and invigorating way. More of Mara and her compassion on NYC issues plz!!! honestly that whole exchange made me trust her so much, not taking any shit, but also being kind and fair

*sigh* so NOW can they hire Kasie back?? We all knew this was gonna happen because the whole CNN+ thing was so damn terrible. And so unnecessarily badly rolled out. And we all literally said so. It's like hey, here's a product for the internet! people! but also, let's not listen to what the internet! people! have to say about what they like, what they want, what their interests are and their actual practical needs are in terms of technology *cries*

But but msnbc lost Rachel and Brian in ridiculous ways....so for the love of god, after all of this, can we please have Kasie Hunt back??

I am quoting myself from the other thread

bc the Peacock Morning joe is still just 90 minutes long. Still no explanation for why MJ fans who are expected to part with $5.99 every month would only get 1/2 of their show. If they feel the need to add some short version for morons why can't they simlutaneously put up the real full version for fans eg who have to work during the 4th hour??? what would it cost them to just add the real, full, unedited thing on there? Just label it the "Morning Joe director's cut", for the love of god.

Why are all electronic roll-outs for everything ever so incredibly ungenerous, miserly, complicated, un-user-friendly and lethargic and self-defeating and hostile to all creativity and newness and openness and getting things widely dispersed????? Every new endevour is infused with self-contempt rather than wanting people to grow to love it. I went home for the holidays and I actually I always have my family and friends over there that I wanna introduce to MJ and Rachel etc but I can't bc stupid geographical shit. Why can't they find ways to get over this?? why when trying to spread their message widely do these news channels focus always on the wrong (stupid) narrowly defined things??

Still on Monday (sorry)

Donny just "branded down" NFTs ---> because he literally doesn't understand them and what they are and how they work. 🥴 That's ok. But also, if you're struggling in context, there are alternatives to just dismissing things you don't understand ---> you can study, you can ask questions, you can engage, you can learn.

What is so maddening about this era is no one is trying to evolve, no one is here to learn and yet the resources are open access, and literally, increasingly.... limitless.

I say this bc I literally *hate* NFTs for my own subjective cranky lil art girl reasons. 🥴

Buuuuut I also acknowledge we live in a universe where there will never be a genuine public, honest and philosophical conversation unless we let people flourish as who they are

  • Love 2

First - I have no idea what an NFT is. My mind has conjured up some fantastic definitions, though.

From reading the posts here, I have to wonder if anyone is actually watching the show anymore.  I mean, truly watching to get information or listen to real political views or discourse. A lot of the posts involve what Meeka is wearing (guilty on this one) - I have to wonder if it is relevant and kind of "must see" for political junkies.  The way it used to be.

probably the definitions in your head are a lot more interesting and coherent than the real thing. I'd do a long-ass post trying to explain it, but idk Kemper I think your life will be happier in blissful ignorance bc it's some pretty dumb shit, but then again dumb shit distorting the art market is nothing new and it does create some interesting opportunities. Maybe, possibly. 🥴

Aaaand also it would be helpful if all the assholes out there could spend their money on this instead of outbidding museums for stuff that really should be on display for the public and not in warehouses, so there's that! all I'm saying is if people are gonna go on tee-vee and discuss NFTs they should at least try to understand what they are, and *then* they can snark (intelligently) on the whole endeavor, I'm here for that, heh

They just will not say that the McCarthy audio was obtained and first played by Rachel Maddow.

also we *all* heard it on Rachel bc we *all* watch Rachel. I mean they must know this??

And they played it as tho no one had ever heard it, and they were airing it for the first time....not once, but twice, and then agaaaain bc in Joe's words, DJT was maybe possibly watching, so his individual insanity should definitely be indulged, never mind the other human viewers simultaneously banging their heads against the wall from boredom and frustration.

I will never understand why they waste 50% just reading basic shit and repeating stuff to us that we've already read on our phones or watched on the msnbc evening shows the night before. For me actually I do enjoy the original insights, discussions and (when they are pre-prepared) questions of Mika & Willie and (non-Cicero) Joe, but we don't get a lot of that because so much time is taken up with dull-ass kindergarten aloud readings of stuff we've already seen on our phones, aggggggh

Still way behind on everything, aaaand last post I promise 😂

but these horrific murders of Russian Oligarchs and their family is literally why people like Julia Ioffe and Masha Gessen were invented....enough with the dumb shit oh gee! how strange! what inexplicable nonsense! dumb-ass innocent journalism popping up everywhere.....why can't they bring on actual Ukrainian American and Russian American educated *experts* to explain wtf is going on? this is some fucking scary shit. Why can't we have regional experts instead of flaky-ass uneducated guesses? gaaaah

geopolitical drama aside ---> prayers for these families. And especially for the kids. so unnecessary, and so heartbreaking

So silly but I tuned in to see what getup Mika had on today.  She introduced the two military guys and Joe started his soliloquy.  She was sitting there smiling at him or maybe it was a response to what he was blathering about. Hes yakking about a war and she is smiling adoringly.  I was waiting to hear Oh Joe you are soooo smart!!!  Off to work early again!

I turned it on this morning and it was Joe in fullscreen by himself droning on and on and on. why do they do this?? I literally thought Mika and Willie weren't there

but actually Mika is in studio in DC Rivendell! yay!! Joe is boringly backseat driving from Florida. Dude, unnecessary, Mika's got this, she's literally the one there at the table with real humans

now they are talking about Madeleine Albrights funeral. Here's a fun fact for you DC people ----> Madeleine Albrights's brooches aka the Read My Pins Albright Collection will be on display at the National Museum of American Diplomacy when they finish their gallery spaces, so you can go see them in person in a couple of years!! It was originally a traveling exhibition organized by MAD in nyc.

For now awaiting completion of the gallery space it's an online exhibition and it's gorgeous and beautifully curated - they've arranged the brooches thematically and included some incredible anecdotes, all online here https://readmypins.state.gov/ Also here's a beautiful clip of Madeleine discussing her collection with Katie Couric https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VznKFc2JZ3E i love her spirit in this and creativity and intelligence and sense of humor.

Dude. it's literally a thousand times worse. He thinks he's Catherine the Great. He thinks he's ceasar, heir to emperor Justinian, bc Russia is just the new seat of the Roman Empire, amirite. the delusion runs deep 🥴

Joe is still being boring. How come when they're in different places Joe and Mika and Willie just tag team it and never actually talk to each other. It's like being forced to eat your eat potatoes and vegetables and meat separately instead of together. And then drinking gravy separately. oh well.

Here for our Khaleesi Katty and Adrienne! love when they're in DC and we get to see Adrienne and the other DC based humans

I'm watching Friday's show this morning, and Mika just said Elon Musk was excited about acquiring "Titt-er!", then corrected herself to, excuse me, Twitter!

And I missed you guys so much because I could telepathically hear all your brains collectively explode!!

Personally I don't think that's super important but, c'mon guys, come baaaack.....it's still subjectively funny & we all disagree sometimes but literally humor is so important and everyone on here is so funny and knowledgeable and interesting, for me I don't really care if we disagree about the context.... #missthesnark

Re: the White House Correspondents dinner they were discussing, no one gives a shit if it's swampy.

No one literally no one ---> That impression is already out there, and it won't matter what anyone does or says - so they all need to stop. caring. and start. living.

Since Joe and Mika and Willie aren't going I hope they at least gave their tix to staffers who could benefit from the professional human networking and the actual human joy that's happening and that *they* all surfed on effortlessly and thoughtlessly for *free* back in the normal days of human interaction!

I read the DC politico playbook every morning and their events! and spotted! sections are the epitome of tedious tedium of tediousness. They are all profoundly dull and attended by the exact 10 people on rotation and makes me profoundly happy I don't live in DC because 🥴 man oh man.

Which is why I WHOLLY support the idea that these poor DC people get one, *one* FUN VIBRANT HUMAN LIFE REINFORCING THING A YEAR.

just one!!! Firmly convinced that without it, DC people would never meet or hug or shake hands or, let's face it, *reproduce*.

LET THEM HAVE IT! don't wanna see a single msnbc person on air without a hangover the next day. just go out there and be alive, ffs

ETA: but also, bc I'm watching a lil bit of it now, making servers wear masks when you are not makes you all seem like feudal overlords. it literally looks ridiculous. 🥴

As does people at the same table drinking *three* different kinds of wine when everyone is eating the exact same salad, whaaaaa...? 😂 and people insisting on water being poured into three separate glasses. man oh man, rich people are amusingly terrible

Oh god, on this pivotal morning when so many women are being f-ed over the MJ guest list on Twitter was....*drum roll* 18 male guests and 2 female guests. I kid you not.

Mika appeared for 1 minute sounding super stressed, then vanished and then it was 15 minutes of Joe and Meacham w/ lethargic platitudes with zero urgency or compassion - thankfully Katty and Barb McQuade *eventually* showed up after like 40 mins and they great - tbh I recently came across Barbara's podcast called Sisters in Law that features Barbara, and Joyce Vance, Kimberly Atkins and Jill Wine-Banks - actual women! who are actual lawyers! discussing issues and not ranting - recommend this on a day like today for those of you who are not watching

https://tunein.com/podcasts/News--Politics-Podcasts/SistersInLaw-p1403924/?topicId=171806334

in other news, since they spend like 100000000000 hours a year talking about baseball, I don't see why they couldn't do like 5 mins on the Met Gala, but I guess not 🥴

It's Willie's birthday and he remains a perfect and adorable human

Joe has a yellow rag that he sprays windex on and inhales during commercial breaks. this explains so much!!!

  • Love 1

well for me all I wish is that they would acknowledge how scared, and alone and fucked over and sad and dehumanized and objectified and exhausted all women feel right now

we don't need a dumb-ass fullscreen Joe lecture or a droning Meacham (high school) history lesson.

We don't need 18 rambling flaky pseudo-intellectual dudes when you could so so easily get 20 female warrior-ass law professors

read. the. fucking. room.

Joe runs his show much like a benevolent despot. Until he isn’t so benevolent;  and turns into the massive, ego-driven bully that we have seen more and more of these last few years. Today’s show was a good example.

Katy Kay, Barbara McQuade, Joyce Vance and a couple of others should have led off the show. When I tuned in, Joe was bloviating; when I tuned in later, he was sucking up to Bill DeBlasio. Why him on this particular day? Certainly when something historic happens, you can bump or reschedule guests. Instead we get more of the same - a show that repeats itself regarding discussions and guests almost every morning.

It took something like this to make me tune in these last couple mornings after many months of abstinence.

And the show does not disappoint.   Just now, after roundly criticizing the GOP for issuing "focus on the leak" talking points instead of addressing the resounding crisis of women losing their right to choose, Joe and friends have spent the last ten minutes (wait for it) focusing on the leak.

oh man we're hitting 2020-levels of Cicero-Joe. i'm trying to not be so cranky and try to focus on what he was saying but honestly I couldn't follow it, it was too confusing. why are they so obsessed with the leak?

also apologies for snarking on meacham (and all the men on the show, heh 🥴) above, who does have occasionally interesting things to say, it's just so frustrating that they don't understand how scared and humiliated and infantilized women are feeling rn

YES. I for one have had enough of those.

ALL of the Sisters in Law should be on - Joyce Vance, Barbara McQuade, Jill Wine-Banks and Kimberly Atkins-Stohr, as well as law professor Melissa Murray. Between this and the Senate primary race here in Ohio...(covered ably by Steve Kornacki) it's exhausting.

Neona, no disrespect, but….that sentence is one I never thought I would see anywhere. Didn’t watch the show but you are probably spot on. If anyone has watched more than snippets these last couple of days - has Meeka led any of the discussions? I mean, actually contributed other than platitudes. Sadly for the viewing audience, I would think this would absolutely be in her wheelhouse. I see a Very Special Episode coming our way.

This morning Admiral Stavridis was talking about how someday he would take The Twins out to lunch at a Pensacola naval base. Joe and Mika egged him on about the name. “The name, the name…what’s it called?” they bugged him.

“The Monkey Bar.” Stavridis replied, looking slightly embarrassed/cute and ridiculous all at once.

Somehow it tickled my funny bone.

Mika is reading the news.  Joe interrupts with his remarks.  She goes on reading. Then when she is finished Joe just starts talking.  I think what bothers me is that the interruptions are an insult to Mika. Have you ever seen a husband do this to their wives?  Its very demeaning.  He is always trying to get the spotlight.  Then when she is finished why can't he say something like "Thank you Mika" or she could say some kind of lead in to him. The whole setup just makes what Mika is doing very unimportant and fluff.  Granted she is far from the best, but he gives her no respect or acknowledgement.  The only time he acknowledges her is in respect to her family connections or her well to do upbringing.

I felt like they were too deferential to Esper.  He came across as a professional diplomat with some gravitas, but his defense against not whistle blowing in real time while Trump was breaking the law, or attempting to, was far far too pat and practiced.  They should have pushed back more aggressively.  He's not your friend, Mika.
Also they let him say, "But you have to admit Trump did a lot of good things too, like lower taxes, Operation Warp Speed, sending aid to Ukraine," without screaming STOP to challenge him on that ludicrous take.  I guess it's a rhetorical defense mechanism Esper has been practicing to keep Bannon and Steven Miller and right wing hit squads from eviscerating him.

  • Love 10

I heard that Andrew Ross Sorkin is now a regular guest so I decided to check out his spot. When I turned the show on Mika was reading an op-ed written by a woman (it might have been Cecile Richards, former head of Planned Parenthood) about the Supreme Court draft. I thought it was an intro to an interview with someone whose opinion I would like to hear.

Nope. The first words out of Joe's mouth were "Johnathan Lemire, tell us about. . . "

Ugh.

And then, during the Sorkin interview, they had the audacity to talk about how people should get back to the office. Do they really think that viewers don't know they only come to NY when there is a party or Joe has a gig?

I hate seeing all these people basically get rewarded with book deals and stay silent until they make the talk show rounds. Esper was scheduled to be a guest of Stephen Colbert's this week, until the show went dark for Covid reasons. Too bad, because I think Colbert would have asked tough questions.

On a happier note, I appreciated a MJ sports update for once - giving love to my Cleveland and Josh Naylor!! Deservedly so.

It's not just the setup, IMO. She's had a decade or more to change this and apparently doesn't see it that way. She's either too afraid or is just obtuse/unaware of how she comes across and is treated. Which just proves what a sham her KYV thing is. She likes the attention but doesn't have the ability to hold her own.

I miss you guys on this board but I don't watch at all these days so I can't contribute anymore.
