Joe laughed at Youngkin not attending the telephone rally that Trump had.

Joe said Trump is a loser for Republicans.

Mika laughed at Joe joking about Trump being in a lockbox like Al Gore wanted the Social Security Trust fund to be in 2000.

Joe want Democrats to pass bills.

Sam Stein can't figure out why he was booked on the show today.

Joe made fun of trump saying the election was rigged. It depressed Republican turnout & allowed Democrats to win 2 Senate seats in Georgia.

Joe complained about high taxes in Connecticut & the legislature were driving companies out of the state.

Joe admitted to voting for Republicans in the Connecticut elections in 2014.

Joe said you can't nationalize elections if you are mad at the state legislator.

Joe bragged about voting for State Democrats in 2006 because he was mad at President Bush.

Mika supports Willie running a marathon but warned him that it will hurt for the first 3 miles.

The show was live at 8 am.

Joe talked about eating meatloaf sandwiches when he used to run 100m dash.

Do you guys know when the special coverage is starting?

i just got home and it's still Ari?? I like him but also I want my three musketeers damnit, the holy female trinity of badassery! etc.... they literally advertised they were gonna be reunited starting at 5, but i'm still over here twiddling my thumbs

I really really liked Huma Abedin on MJ. It's funny, because I remember in the DJT era Jared Kushner was literally always there, but totally quiet, and then one day he said something out loud and I laughed my ass off at his totally ridiculous voice!!

All of which is to say that with Huma it was the exact opposite of that experience - she's been this background person forever and everyone knows her face, and then she opened her mouth and spoke in public and it was inexplicably awesome and I actually respect her a whole lot more now. I saw her on Colbert yesterday and he asked her if Hillary had asked her to be chief of staff, would she have accepted? And she said no, because she didn't feel qualified. That, that literally won me over! No elected official has that kind of self-awareness and spirit for public service where they know who they are, what they are good at, and what they are not, and are actually truthful about it. I freakin love her, and I'm glad she divorced that asshole. That is all.

I haven't seen the Abedin interview yet. Was Mika hostile towards her ?

During the first hour , Joe essentially blamed Abedin for letting her husband Anthony Weiner share her laptop which prompted an FBI investigation by Comey that stopped Hillary Clinton's campaign.

Did Joe confront her or did he disappear ?

All in the studio, both hosts and guests.  Wow.

Mika is wearing a black suit, I suppose mourning the election results.  So glad they got Michael Steele and John Heileman on set. Steele had been predicting the Virginia outcome as a certainty.

That was a surprisingly good, balanced discussion today. I'm disappointed in the election results, but I thought the panel was very realistic and thoughtful in their assessments. I actually turned off the TV feeling a bit better versus feeling frustrated and annoyed.

If the Dems take this as a warning signal to pull their shit together, these results are a gift.

Wedneday Recap.

Mika & Joe agreed to appear in the Meet The Pres Studio in Washington.

Friend of the show, McCauliffe was defeated by Fleece vest wearing Republican Youngkin.

Joe said wearing fleece helped Youngkin appeal to working class voters who are worried about high heating costs.

Ciatttarelli is tied with friend of the show Phil Murphy in NJ.

The Braves won the World Series. Joe was happy & used to be a Braves fan growing up.

Mika was surprised that Soler hit the ball out of the stadium.

Youngkin got 57% of white women support.

Mika saw lawn signs for Youngkin in Virginia.

Heilmann finally spoke at 6 21 am Joe interrupted Heilemann.

Heilmann said Terry committed malpractice by not fighting back against CRT.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahgghghghghghghhhghg, wtf wtf wtf, nooooooooooooooooo <---- that right there is my neutral, rule-abiding political commentary. ambigous enough to be open to interpretation, obviously. 🥴

anyhoo! moving on. Joe and Mika in DC Rivendell today!! With her royal highness queen khaleesi Katty Kay, mother of dragons and also of 80s disco blazer sequins, I freakin love her and I am here for it.

In autumnal golden NYC - Willie G, Lemire, the Rev and Matrix Kitchen Oracle descended from on high Claire MCcaskill. I usually hate seasonal changes because it's always some kind of depressing cultivation of darkness which my lil art girl self will never understand bc to me light and color are positive creative things, but but this whole golden aura autumnal thingy is actually nice? and I kinda like it

Willie looks cute today

Since Eric Adam is now the actual mayor, his team needs to fix the awful audio issue. Dude. He won a freakin election so there is literally no reason he should be sounding this garbled and echo-y and muddled

It was actually a really good show. Yesterday I was thinking to myself why I love the Joy and Rachel and Nicolle specials so much, and I think it's because sometimes when they are talking to each other, they get carried away and literally forget the camera is there. Just for my own opinion, that is literally all I want. If i had some kind of terminal illness I would want to know what the doctors are saying to each other in the breakroom, and it's the same with politics,  I wanna hear what the politicos say to each other when the cameras are off

Shoot, Michael Steele is one of my favorite guests on MJ, but I just found out that he has formed an exploratory committee to run for Governor of Maryland (where he had been Lt. Gov.), so he will need to get off the talk show circuit if he goes down that road.

That is interesting news. I believe another former regular MJ guest, Wes Moore is also running for Governor of Maryland. Mika & Joe could moderate a debate but Joe would probably end up monopolizing the talking time.

That's pretty much the only scenario in which I can now tolerate Joy. She is so intelligent and insightful, which really shines through in these interactions. But for whatever reason, when she is hosting her own show solo, she devolves into petty sniping and name-calling (e.g., "Tuckums") which is just unprofessional and immature.

I bet Joe is itching to throw his hat back in the ring now that some of his regulars are mulling a run. I actually thought Steele left the GOP during Trump's term. Shows I don't really watch much anymore.

Joy is unwatchable in any environment, IMO. I don't find her style of punditry at all appealing. Was she ever a friend of the show? I don't remember her if she was ever on.

Thanks for the link, SG429. The most interesting part to me was:

"Scarborough is technically a Florida resident, a move he made to avoid paying state income tax, so he must be in the state at least 183 a year, so MSNBC created the remote studio well before the pandemic forced many newscasts to full or remote production."

You'd think that they might make special accommodation for him to relocate to get specialized medical treatment or something...but to save on taxes?? Why on earth does he get special treatment for that? He looks like a shady shyster...why couldn't he use the excuse of being near some of his children or something? It makes me laugh that he loves hobnobbing with the elites but is too cheap to pay the price of living amongst them. He has no shame.

Taxes are just for little people, doncha know?  Taxes drove me out of Connecticut, too, but I'm not pulling in a seven figure salary alongside a spouse who gets almost as much for doing almost as little.

Fascinating that the network considers abetting tax evasion more valuable than having your show's host in the studio.  Pandemic aside, what would Joe have done if the network had said no, you have to come to work every day in the place where the newsmakers are?  What other nationally-based on-air political personage isn't working either out of NY or DC?

OTOH, if they'd built a bunker studio for Rachel in Massachusetts instead of having her commute to NYC every week, maybe she wouldn't be burned out and planning to bail on her show.

Joe was very angry at MSNBC when Chris Matthews was fired in 2020 for complaining about Bernie Sanders wanting to raise taxes on millionaires. He was worried about being lynched in NY Central Park by Sanders supporters.

Matthews also had to deal with a few former female guests who complained about his lewd remarks that he had made on his show about them.

Joe reluctantly agreed to allow the network to promote Joy Reid & they did let her appear on the show once or twice since then.

Mika & Joe used to brag about watching Hardball on a regular basis but they rarely if ever mention Joy Reid.

Concerning Joe' relocation to Florida, I remember when Joe complained to the Governor of Connecticut on the show about high taxes on wealthy individuals & corporations like GE, who was the parent of NBC.

He warned him that people & companies would leave the state if taxes were not reduced.

The Governor did not listen to Joe & Joe put his home up for sale at a loss & moved to Florida.

The NY Post ran a series of articles about Mika & Joe hiding their move to Florida.

Mika & Joe finally agreed to admit that they moved to Florida because Mika's mom's doctor recommended that she live in a warm climate to help deal with her medical issues.

I think Joe's mom was still alive & suffering from dementia. Joe moved her back to Florida from Connecticut.

One of Joe's ex wives moved back to Florida, so it made it easier for Joe to co parent his 2 younger kids if they were in the same state.

Mika & Joe's official reason for moving to Florida in 2018 were about family issues, but there is an added benefit of saving over $1million per year in combined taxes by them leaving NY & Connecticut .

There is no doubt that the show has suffered from having the 2 main hosts broadcasting from a bunker in Florida & not allowing any live guests into the bunker.

On the other hand, MSNBC viewers must be happy that in the event of a cataclysmic event that destroyed NY & Washington, Morning Joe would continue to broadcast from Jupiter Florida.

Joe has been very upset with the Florida GOP since 2010 when they allowed Marco Rubio & Charlie Crist to run for the GOP nomination for Senate rather than letting Joe be acclaimed  the GOP candidate.

I recall Mika & Joe filming several episodes of Morning Joe in Pensacola in the summer of 2010. Joe was angry at President Obama for not stopping the BP oil spill.

Mika purchased several summery dresses & posed with Joe for pictures on the white sandy beaches. The glamour shots of Mika & Joe on the beach were used on a regular basis to promote the show.

Joe was furious that Rubio beat Crist & went on to win the Senate seat.

Joe couldn't believe that Floridians would elect someone as short as Rubio to the Senate.

During Rubio's presidential run in 2016, Joe made many references to Rubio's height & that he had to buy special boots with extra long heels to appear on the debate stage with Trump.

Fox & Friends gets 1.254M, Morning Joe 780K & New Day 384k which I find to be very low.

You are correct that MSNBC often mentions that it is doing better than CNN, but never compares itself to Fox & Friends. Below are the rating for all news cable shows.

A ratings summary I saw on Mediaite (🥸) seems to show that CNN’s demos go up as the day goes on.

If beating CNN is all that the network cares about, it is odd they haven’t realized that almost any show/hosts they put on in the 6-9 time slot would beat CNN. Sadly, I think CNN has the better early morning show if one wants other voices and news that is not all politics.

I agree. There are several morning shows that present "real" news, even the business-oriented shows have "newsy" news. Anymore, MJ is just a long, drawn-out Sunday morning talk show, a genre I never watch. I hate the predictable format and the round up of the usual suspects found on every panel...the drop in ratings is no surprise.

Love your recaps Oakville. Your name should appear on the show's credits as Historian/Archivist!  When MJ finally bites the dust you need to write a book about its long painful demise.

So Joe and Mika get paid about $20 per viewer.  Okay viewers, would you whip out your wallet and hand them a twenty?

I don't pay much attention to relative ratings, because I figure that MSNBC and CNN split the non-conservative viewership.  Combined, they're usually close to or even exceed Fox's ratings.

Looks like MJ peaked in January with all the interest in the Capitol attack and the inauguration, and then dropped like a stone.  But a 24% decline in viewership over two years and 42% this year?  How are these people still under contract?

MSNBC is very constrained in that time slot, because any move towards a more newsy, traditional morning show cuts right in to Today's audience and NBC just won't let that happen. That's why they also didn't mind wasting the time on Imus. "Unlikable" just might be in the job description for hosting 6-9 on MSNBC.

That is an excellent point. I tried to watch the Today show during weekdays a few years ago, but I found it hard to take seriously. The cooking segments were too short & the hosts seemed to be acting like excited teenagers.

I am shocked that Savannah Guthrie who finished first on the Arizona Bar exam & was a regular correspondent on Morning Joe providing useful information "dumbed down" to join the Today show.

Morning Joe used to discuss other issues than politics during their golden era.

They would discuss economics, new companies, education etc. They also had guests from both political parties who had a wide array of political philosophies.

That doesn't happen now.

Being on the west coast, I DVR Morning Joe, rarely watch them. Sometimes I’m up folding dishes.  I’m lucky it’s Stephanie Ruhle on at 6am-she’s hilarious and I’m quite fond of here.

I saw today that during the nyc marathon Stephanie was jumping the fence to jump on Willie and swing on him-she looked so small and it was funny! Even Minka seemed to think it was funny. I was amused.

Tuned in at the 7:00 hour to see/hear Joe (It looked like he had a fleece windbreaker on!) and company....including Donnie D, Barnicle, Lemire, and the guy with the charts - Rattigan? All bemoaning corporations not paying their fair share of taxes (I think that is what they were sobbing about), and how unfair things are.  I looked at the group sitting around, giving us their pearls of wisdom; all rich and entitled schmucks. They may have made some good points but who could take them seriously?

How about having your employer getting you an at-home studio, freedom to pursue other projects, giving in to your ego because YOU do not want to pay high taxes.  You big old bag of wind.  I will admit the show is so much better when there are people sitting around the table.  I saw Adam Kinsinger on - maybe CNN or some other show.  He seems to be so much that Joe could have been.  Back when he was in Congress; when he ruled with the likes of Newt Gingrich. And loved it.

I had to look this up. OMG. How inappropriate. For a news person to break through the safety barrier for a network photo op? Disgusting, actually, and I'm glad I don't watch her show (or the Today show, for that matter...what a dumbed-down waste of time ). Another elitist move...it's ok because of who I am?? This chaps my hide. I can just imagine the security panic and hand-wringing that would occur if any random watcher would do that. No one remembered the Boston Marathon?

I did flip by the show this morning and saw Joe and his jacket...glad he could spare a minute to broadcast between walking the dog and a run to Starbucks. Ratner was on with his charts. His appearance makes me laugh. I don't know of too many 69 yr old men with such dark hair.

YMMV but for me, Mika was alone in NYC today and it was fine?

I've been a lil busy the last couple of days but I watched like 20 min of Thursday's show and I think Mika was in DC then and doing really well, all natural and calm and easy in DC Rivendell all by her lil lonesome self (I think it was last Thursday?).

And now today she's running the whole show all competent and awake from NYC with Florida! Joe all remote and detached and tiredly chipping in....and yet despite the disparities in contribution Joe gets the giant-ass Hans Holbein Henry VIII important-ass Middle Box - but why can't the person actually showing up to studio have that box?? Why??

((oh and of course -- for the thousandth time, why can't Joe and Mika share it, and do the show together, like they used to do for like ten years? agggh *cries*))

Maybe I'm in the minority but I think Willie said 3:58 and I mean, for the NYC marathon that's.... a totally respectable time...? Is it just me? and also I think Willie must be pushing fifty? So yeah that's pretty damn good?

and literally lifting steph in the air just completely sold it for me in terms of energy and vitality and commitment, OMG.... and making the whole thing into a joyous meaningful thing, lmao, I screamed when I saw that clip.

The only thing that was a bit sad is that in the old days it would've been Joe and Mika doing the cheering and screaming and jumping for Willie and now they're usually so far away and checked out from any joyful thing that ever happens in real time in nyc. The show used to be a part of NYC city life and now it just isn't, and it's so damn sad.

Anyhoo. Willie is a great runner. Mika is a great runner. Buuut tbh, much in the way giant-ass birds like turkeys and emus have lost the ability to fly, by reason of changing proportions, so Joe, though technically a human, has lost the ability to run. And that's totally okay.

The only sad part is that Meacham wasn't here to regale us of tales about his athletic feats back when he attended the funeral games of Patroclus.

Anyhoo. I am here for the Rev's circular stripey socks. That is all.

Monday Recap with wine.

The how opened up with the SNL clip of the new actor impersonating President Trump. His voice sounds exactly like him.

Joe is wearing a new fleece top & Mika is wearing a dark cardigan with a black & white top.

Joe & Mika approved of James Austin Johnson.

Mika has a new haircut. I like it.

Joe complained about Aaron Rogers not getting vaccinated.

Mika called Friday a BFD for Democrats.

Willie finished the marathon.

Stephanie "I don't care about " Ruhles broke threw the barrier to jump into Willie's arms.

Mika said that Ruhle was light & easy to carry. Ruhle must have read Mika's weight loss book.

Bill Karins beat Willie by 20 minutes with a Personal Best of 3 Hours 38 minutes.

Willie, Rev Al & Ratner are in the studio with Mika.

Joe took credit for getting the Infrastructure deal getting passed. He said he called Congressman Kinzinger & told him to get a few of his Republican colleagues  to vote for the deal after AOC & her allies voted against it.

Speaker Pelosi called Joe to thank him for getting the votes needed. As a reward, she put in a provision in the bill to provide solar panels to electrify a fence around Joe's home in case his relatives & friends who send him conspiracies on Facebook try & visit him in person.

Heather McGhee is also on the show.

Mika struggled with the word ingredient when discussing Aaron Rodgers allergies to the vaccines.

Mika was happy that he was criticized. Bradshaw told him not to take Ivermectin.

Why is Aaron Rodgers the top story ? Shouldn't it be the Infrastructure deal ?

Joe wants the military & police to be vaccinated.

Heather's daughter who works at Wendys is vaccinated.
