Sorry, I should have been more clear. I meant that if millions of Muslims can be lumped together under one convenient term (radical) based on the acts of a few, then, proportionately speaking, would it be so outlandish for Sweden, France or whichever countries with strict citizen gun laws to ban the entry of US citizens based on our country's high gun-violence statistics? Wouldn't be difficult to argue that violence and guns are accepted (hell, encouraged) in our culture. Wonder how people would feel if they were kept from traveling based on sweeping generalizations. I wish Canada and Mexico, plus other destination countries to the south were able to say FU and deny Americans entry based on our high gun-violence stats. People would lose their minds if they were denied Caribbean trips or winter getaways to Mexico bc they are US citizens (I know the economics of it all would never allow it to happen, but still).

This was a bit rambling, but I would really like to know how Joe would handle being treated as one of the unwashed masses.

Ok. I see your point. I don't think it is even possible to deny entry to a country based on someone's religion. How would the border officials know your religion unless you were wearing certain clothing. ? I suppose President Trump could ban people with certain countries passports, but that's not fair.

Monday recap. Joe is in an undisclosed studio. Most of the show was about Joe bragging about how right he was about Trump. Joe said he led the revolt against Newt Gingrich in the 90's & the first to tell Romney he would lose in 2012. Mika & Joe told the audience to check the tape in real time about how right they were about everything. Joe said Cleveland would burn down at the GOP convention. Chris Jansing was giddy about Cleveland Cavaliers winning the NBA championship.

Harold Ford Jr was on the show & agreed with Joe. Cackles cackled throughout the morning.

Halperin thinks the Trump campaign will get more organized. They hired a rapid resposne team.

Mika & Joe assured everyone that Trump wasn't a racist

I'm not really paying attention today but did Joe say, regarding the current state of the GOP, that"he has worried about this for decades"?  Decades??

Joe is worried that Hillary Clinton will appoint liberal judges to the Supreme Court which will be able to make rulings for decades.

Mika announced she doesn't like Golf. She said it was a waste of time to hit a small ball into a whole.

Mika said she will attend the GOP convention with Joe. Joe said he want Trump to pivot & renounce the Muslim ban.

I prefer when Joe is in his own studio. He just shouts at himself without bothering the rest of the panelists.

Tuesday Recap. Joe is in an undisclosed studio. Mika is off. The panel is the same. Trump's campaign manager was fired. Joe agreed with the move & will help the pivot. Trump doesn't have any money to campaign. Trump is having a hard time raising money because he is a Billionaire. Joe bragged that he was in touch with Trump's family. New polls show Trump is doing better than expected in Ohio & PA. Heileman was excited that Hillary can run ads in the battleground states. Barnicle said trump doesn't have a very intellectual campaign. Joe wants Trump to do policy speeches.

In the "who are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes?" Department, it was astounding to hear them yapping about how Trump is doomed and then gloss over the polls showing him running practically even with Clinton in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida.

Also nice was listening to them all snicker about Lewandowski getting escorted out of Trump Tower and then catching themselves and saying it's never fun when you lose a job.

The latest swing state poll--Quinipiac, this morning--has Clinton up 9 in Florida, although the other two are close.

This always makes me laugh, Oakville, particularly when you use "undisclosed location." Sounds vaguely sinister.

Joe looked a little sinister to me this morning. I watched only a few minutes, but the way the camera lights were shining on his eyeglasses gave him the look of a Bond villain or something.

Joe's little booth he was in this morning was lit strangely.  I picture him in an outfitted bathroom stall in his favorite bloody mary/hamburger joint in Georgetown.
I was sleeping on and off through the 7am block and they spoke about Trump continuously in that period.  While it IS a big deal that he fired his campaign manager and has almost no funds, there are other things happening in the world.  I wish they'd gone into greater depth on the Senate voting down every proposed gun measure.  The GOP literally has no problem with suspected terrorists buying assault rifles.  Incredible.  A clever person on the panel (precious few of those) would note the dissonance between the GOP's ear-splitting hatred of the ATF's "Fast and Furious" plan to root out drug cartels, and their lackadaisical view on suspected domestic terrorists freely purchasing weaponry w/out scrutiny.

Joe finished the show with a poignant birthday wish to his mother, who apparently suffers from dementia or Alzheimer's or some illness that impedes her memory. Even a jerk like me was farklempt. Here is a link. It was an antidote to the hacky crap Dana Loesch had been spewing about red state/blue state nonsense just before.

I think Cackles should apologize for joking about Corey being escorted from Trump Tower. Cackles was fired from the View last fall & they didn't even tell her privately. I don't like Cackles. She is very disloyal.

Thanks!. I call it an undisclosed location, because he doesn't mention where he is. I suspect the studio is in Pensacola or Martha's Vineyard. Joe's hair was 6 inches higher than normal today. I wonder what hair conditioner he uses.?

Mini Wednesday Recap. Joe is back in his undisclosed studio with very puffy hair. Mika is off. Willie is back. The usual panelists were there.

Today's word is "Rapid Response". Halperin & the others are very happy that Trump has a Rapid Response team that can respond to Hillary's speeches. Joe said Trump is even with Hillary in Ohio & Penn after his worst 3 weeks, so he could win those states if he pivots to being more Presidential.

Cackles said she hopes she sees a post Wisconsin Trump.

Sam Stein was excited that Hillary has 10 times as many staffers as Trump. Cackles told Stein he was in a bubble & no one cares about staffers. Cackles said that Trump beat Bush even though Bush & the other campaigns had more staffers than him.

Halperin said Hillary's goal is to make the election a referendum on Trump. This strategy worked for George W Bush & President Obama.

Man this kills me but I'm with Cackles. A few years ago there was an article about presidential campaigns and the consensus was, Dem campaigns are always more heavily staffed, but not always to their advantage (I remember some email leaked from the Kerry campaign where dozens of people were on a pretty simple conference call, all with a silly title eg "Deputy Assistant Executive Director - Field Operations - West.") It could be that Dems, by their nature, believe in government, and so seek this work out. But take a look at the lobbying and consultant firms in DC - the GOP loves them some government too!

Also this particular candidate has been basically surrounded by staff for over 20 years, even more of you count the Arkansas years.  So she's not one for a lean operation. I remember one of the released emails was her emailing her staff asking what channel Homeland was on. This is not meant as an attack on Clinton - I remember the Bushes commenting how weird it was to adjust to real life.

That said, the Trump organization is very lean, even by GOP standards. After the convention the GOP will kick in and take over some of the organization so that will change.

Goofy crew made up of only the supporting cast today.  Nice to not hear Joe's repetitive bloviating and Mika's awkwardness.  I would have fun at a cocktail party with Donnie, Cackles, Barnicle, and Lupicka.  They are knuckleheads.

I get it that Mika is on a vacation - and clearly Joe kind of is ergo his wierd little box he was from remotely - but does anyone else think it's strange that on a well known important news day neither of them are there?  This was determined long ago (however the vote went).

I'm not complaining, it's actually a little more enjoyable but still way to over-focused on tRump.

It seems like Joe has been AWOL during other international events. Of course, I can't think of specific examples to back up this claim. I just remember having the same thought as you did this morning ("Why isn't Joe getting in on this? Even from a secret, remote location?") because it's always followed with this thought: "Because he must know less than usual about this particular topic and doesn't want to risk looking like an ass. And that's saying something." My guess is he's somewhere studying buzz words and waiting to see which way the wind is blowing, so when he shows up on Monday he can say, "See? This is exactly what I said would happen 6 months ago when David, Boris, and I met for drinks!"

It is strange that they both missed this. I wonder if Joe is with his mom in Pensacola? I enjoyed the Friday show without Mika & Joe. Bernie Sanders was on & said he would consider voting for Hillary to stop Trump. Cackles & Willie make a good pair. Cackles couldn't stop cackling over Trump talking about the Suites @ the Turnberry. Willie allowed all the guests to talk.

I missed this when it aired; thank you for posting the link.  Like most people, I cannot abide Joe, but I have to admit, this made me tear up.  So apparently, somewhere deep down inside that black hole he calls a heart, there is a smidge of goodness and his mom brought it out in that tribute.  Good on him for doing so, and good thoughts and wishes to the whole family.  This can't be easy --  to witness the decline of one's mother; in fact, it's heartbreaking.

Mika & Joe are back. Joe's son got married in Nantucket. The other one got married in Pensacola 3 weeks ago. Mika & the rest of the panel were at the wedding. Mika was not one of the Bridesmaids. Joe said he was broke from paying for the weddings. The panel was excited about new polls. Trump is losing by 5 & 12 points nationally. The swing state polls are much closer. Trump is only down by 1 point in Colorado & 3 pts in Florida. Joe said Trump is doing better than expected. Trump will allow Muslims from Scotland & the UK to visit the USA. Joe is excited that Trump is softening his positions on building walls, & the mass deportations. Mika said she asked her daughter Carly about Trump. Carly said Trump can't just change his positions that quickly. Ratner tried to explain the economic consequences of the Brexit. Joe shouted at him before he could finish & said the UK could lower taxes to offset being out of the EU. Joe said Thatcher was opposed to many of the EU policies. Joe was asking Ratner about betting on the UK. Ratner said to buy the FTSE 100 index,

Joe doesn't seem to know much about the Brexit. He mocked Trump a few weeks ago about the same issue.

Joe said some of his relatives aren't as positive about Trump as they were a few weeks ago.

They didn't discuss the issue of people telling pollsters that they would vote to Remain but actually voted to Leave. It was more politically correct to support the Remain option. Could the same thing be happening in the USA? Polls underestimating Trump support?

Joe is now talking about the betting markets being wrong about Brexit. Ratner trusts the betting markets. Halperin was upset about the polls being wrong. Joe shouted at Ratner about Rubio. Ratner said the polls were wrong in the UK about Brexit & the last election.

oakville, your head must be spinning! : )

This show does that to me! It seems like Joe is being more positive about Trump today. Halperin is practically giddy about Trump's prospects. A few weeks ago, Halperin said Trump would be competitive in California. Now, he is changing his tune & said the big gap in National polls doesn't affect the electoral college because of Hillary's big lead in California ! Aargh!

I suspect that Halperin wants to see a close race , so he can sell more books with Game Change 2016.

Gillian Tet from Financial Times came on the show to say everything is a mess in the UK. The Leave campaign doesn't know what to do anymore. She was upset that voters expressed remorse about voting to Leave. She said the campaign turned into a protest vote againt the government.

Joe crowed that the UK voters were against the Brussels Bureaucracy which cost a lot of money. Joe said the UL can spend the money it was giving the the EU on rebuilding the UK.

Gillian Tet agreed that the bureaucracy was bad & worse than American bureaucracy.

Mika disappeared at 8:30 am. New panelists, Hallie Jackson & Elise & a guy that looks like David Arquette. He is a pollster who said that Hillary is leading with Millenial women. He called it the summer of hate. Chris Jansing said some millennial women may not vote.

I read an article about the seven reasons people voted to Leave, and they basically had to do with bloated bureaucracy, so on the surface I could see how people would have voted that way.  However, I wonder if Great Britain could have used some of its leverage with other EU nations to cut back on EU "bloatedness."

I watched the BBC coverage of the results. Many people were upset with the EU regulations. Apparently the UK pays $8bln pounds more to to the EU than it receives per year. The Leave campaign promised that the extra cash would help the UK's health care system. It seems that there may not as much extra promised to the health care system. Ther are similarities between the Trump & Sanders supporters & those that voted to Leave.

They spent about two minutes talking about the DNC platform meetings that occurred over the weekend, and if you relied on those two minutes, you wouldn't know what a shitshow it was. Yeah it's a bit in the weeds and inside baseball but I thought this  show prided itself on that kind of coverage.

Head meet desk. They're all talking about how Elizabeth Warren is just like Sarah Palin.

Unbelievable.

They did so in a *very limited* way. They pointed out how VERY early in the McCain-Palin days, Palin could attract crowds and bring electricity, and she was a populist counterpoint to McCain, who was as DC establishment as they come.  They were careful to limit their comparison to these points.  With these limitations, I don't see the controversy here unless you have some sort of Pavlovian reaction to the name Palin.

I got to hand it to Cackles for pointing out how bizarre it was to see Clinton there nodding while Warren went off about Wall Street, given how Wall Street is Clinton's constituency (the panel's point, not mine).

Dear God, who was the moron who came on at the 7th hour? Rep. Dave Brat.  Don't know if he's just stumping for Trump or is working on his campaign, but what an inane interview. Every criticism or question about Trump was met with a 'ooh, he's evolving', or 'that  policy is coming'.   Then he just kept nodding and saying 'yup' to everything else while the flop sweat built on his forehead. Icing on the cake? When Mika complained that Trump did little more than have a golf informercial from Scotland, he giggled 'I think people like that. They see him flying around and playing golf and they think, hey thats cool!'

Sweet Jesus, there are no words for that level of stupid.

We're supposed to keep politics out of this thread unless it's related to something the pundits have said.  That said, I don't think it's nice or even accurate to say Republican primary voters are stupid (they didn't all vote for Trump).  (And I'm not Republican.)

Seriously I had no idea how dumb Brat was until I saw him today. I had assumed that because he was an academic he had at least something going on, even if I might not agree with it. Nope. Just a silly hack like the rest of them. Then I looked it up on Wikipedia and he was associated with some institute funded by a financial services company. This is yet another sneaky way the right and corporate interests are spreading their influence - by funding and underwriting academic institutes and chairs where they can encourage pro-interest thinking.

I hate that elitist bullshit ("once you get west of Nyack...") both for its superficial conclusion about "regular" people, but also for its assumption that everyone east of Nyack is a bunch of elitist snoots who don't care about "flyover" country. First, there are pockets of Trump support here and there all along the Boston-DC corridor...they're just not in places that Mika, Joe, Barnicle, Nicole etc frequent.

Second, even progressive people along the "Accela" corridor are aware of this - they have relatives, in-laws, etc who share those views (like Nicole's oft-cited father). Not everyone has their head up their ass. In fact the real problem are the people at the extreme ends of the political spectrum who treat their political opposites as some sort of inexplicable exotic creature that they dismiss or ignore or hate. Or treat like zoo animals, like Joe and his magical trip to Target.

As the late great Marvin Gaye sang, "Just talk to me/and you can see/what's going on."
