Page Six is now reporting that all of the Today Show people were feigning shock and surprise over Matt's repulsive behavior. Says it was well known and even those who went on the air saying they had no idea and never saw/heard anything are blatantly lying. No surprise.

The Post is also pointing out the interesting timing of NBC passing on Ronan Farrow's bombshell report about Harvey Weinstein. Speculation is they were afraid it hit too close to home with Matt's behavior.

Page Six was one of Harvey Weinstein's go-to gossip outlets for years, though. I can't view them as some bastion of objectivity all of a sudden when it comes to sexual harassment. I can believe staffers knew some things (or talked themselves into seeing it that way), like he had affairs and a dirty/inappropriate sense of humor, but not necessarily the worst of the allegations.

I do think that NBC's decision to pass on the Harvey Weinstein story now looks very, very bad.

Sexual assault?  He locked the door and had sex with somebody.

He locked the door, made his victim bend over a piece of furniture (I’ve heard it was either his desk or a chair), had sex with her for a prolonged period of time and she passed out on the floor. When she awoke, she found her pants down around her ankles and was in such bad shape that one of Lauer’s assistants escorted the woman to the nurse (I believe it was a nurse who worked for the network). So there goes the b.s. about no one knowing that the guy was a disgusting perv who got pleasure out of preying on female co-workers.

Outlets are going back and examining dumb Today sketches mocking sexual harassment.  One was a skit where Willie smacked Matt on the ass (probably one of the reasons Willie didn't seem like he wanted to talk about Lauer on Morning Joe) and that horrible Kathie Lee scripted Today the Musical where Matt shows off his boxers to Savannah, Tamron, Jenna Bush and Natalie.  Kind of yucky in retrospect.

The folks who did the Variety report are calling BS that on-air talent were unaware of Matt's behavior.  I still can't blame them, we all saw what he did to Ann Curry.

All Lauer stuff aside, Ann Curry is gone because she sucked at her job. Period

I never cared for her, but her dismissal wasn't handled well.

Just reading some FB posts & the ladies of The Today Show are taking a bit of a hit.  Posters are calling out their hypocrisy.  Basically nobody is buying their weeping & wailing about their mentor, partner, etc., etc.  Hard to believe nobody at NBC knew, when rumors have been floating about for years, & one incident they mentioned happened 16 years ago.

Now it is reported that Lauer's attorneys are angling for a $30 million payout for him!

He could sell that $33 million house in the Hamptons.  lol

Matt is believed to be worth around $60M. Which makes a little sense since he started making $25M/yr in 2012. Up from $17M in prior years. Good grief - where is the money when he should at least more in all these years - at least in assets.

The $60M figure doesn’t sound right. Today I was listening to someone on the radio who was reading from a published report all of Lauer’s real estate holdings. He owns something like 4 or 5 properties in the Hamptons and also owns a condo in the same building that Bernie Madoff resided in before his own reversal of fortune. Matt is worth at least $100M in that same report.

Curry was fired because she was not good for the job  Nuf said for me.  I never liked her.

She wasn’t great at her job, I never liked her either , but that doesn’t change the fact that  the old boys club led by Lauer were out to get her. I am sure id She wa someone that’s Lauer wanted sexually, she would be on the job .

Yeah, I see this now.  Hard not to believe she is not involved!

Has Dylan said anything so far on the air? I can see Matt having a thing for her. It sounds like Natalie is going all in on that nothing happened between her and Matt.

Yeah.  Natalie has a reputation to protect and not speaking up sooner could be used against her.  He was fired, no need to pile on, the goal has been achieved.

Don't you just know that Matt's wife, Annette, is livid and grossed-out that her pig husband is now living with her and the kids in the Hamptons in his self-imposed banishment?  She had her very nice, quiet life out there and probably could mostly ignore him, but now she has to see his rat-face every day while he basically tries to hide out, away from the city.  Get a great lawyer, Annette.

I find it interesting that Meredith Viera has remained quiet as well as Katie Couric. All Katie has said is that she will comment when she is ready and that was only after someone called her out on remaining silent. Reminds me of Meryl Streep being silent about Harvey Weinstein and then claiming she had never heard rumors about him. Sure, Meryl.

Matt's still trying to control Today

Quote

Sources say Lauer — who was swiftly canned in November after being accused of inappropriate sexual conduct — recently sent a producer an email saying that he felt they had used the wrong music to kick off a segment.

Sources say Lauer’s missives have not been warmly received by “Today” staff.

Not shocked that the guy who probably had the final say on every little thing at Today for the past 20 years is having trouble letting go.

He may be thinking he can still be part of the show from home.  Hoping he can.

I must admit that I have wondered about the accuracy of the story that Matt was "let go" right after the meeting where the intern told her story.  More details are provided in this recent Page Six story.  I'm just trying to envision if what we are told about the series of events is true.  I just can't believe it for some reason.  There had to be more.  An immediate firing based on one person's accusations, WITHOUT any investigation at all.  How could this happen?  I really wonder how it really went down.

Well, hadn't the woman making the accusation already met with HR and brought her high power attorney with her? And she had a photo of a naked Lauer or his penis on her phone. That is pretty good evidence. I am sure she had detailed information that she provided.

Quote from the Page Six Article above:  “Matt is still feeling a lot of shame,” the insider said. “But he is angry because he certainly wasn’t the only person in TV doing this, but he has taken the fall.”

He recently told one friend, “The world is a dark place.”

Seriously?  He's feeling sorry for himself??

I am curious as to what Matt will do with himself.  He's not an old man.  Charlie (Rose) is retirement age, but, Matt is only 60 years old.    I can't envision how he will spend his time.  What kind of project would accept him?  He has enough money to live comfortably, even after his wife gets her share, but, what about occupying your day?

I've wondered the same thing. It's not like he could realistically get a job in the entertainment industry, even behind-the-scenes, say as a producer. He's going to have to do something in the private sector, but even then, who's going to want to hire him after he's been disgraced? I'd say he needs to drop his fancy lifestyle & learn to stretch what he already has, because I'd say the well is drying up fast. Sell the $30 million+ Hampton's home & buy a stretch of ground in Idaho, where no one cares who you are. Maybe a tell-all book in 10 years, or so, but that's no guarantee of a secure income (he has plenty, but he probably wants more). I know, he has kids, he wants to be close to them, but I think he'd do well to take a break from everything in his current life for a while. Maybe permanently.

I agree. He is (or was) such a high-profile figure and I just don't see him getting any luck in the private or public sector. Early retirement may be his only option.

I can't imagine Matt moving to another country, but, that's an option, I suppose. I think that Charlie could. But, Charlie has a hometown that would welcome him back with open arms.  (He's from my hometown actually, and maintains some properties there..)  I've talked to a few people, extended family, neighbors, etc. and they say they could kick his butt, but, they love the man.  So, he has options.  Not sure about Matt.  Can you ever go back, after something like that?

Matt bought property in New Zealand last year. Maybe he will move there.

I read that this whole scandal came out and then the NZ government was reconsidering allowing him to own the NZ property. Not sure how that works. It almost sounded like the sale was not totally final yet and now NZ was not sure they wanted him in their country, due to his behavior.

Matt is worth a lot of money and was paid well for many years but a 33 million dollar house is one hell of an expense and VERY expensive to maintain. Good luck Matt !

Ann Curry says she alerted NBC about Lauer's inappropriate behavior

I always thought he disliked her more because she wasn't amused by his pervinesss than him being annoyed by her so-called incompetence.  Savannah, Hoda, Katie and Meredith seemed to adore him, and if Ann didn't, well I can see someone with Matt's ego and power being displeased.

Lauer says he'll be back on tv soon

It's hilarious to me that some critics of #MeToo or #TimesUp say that poor, helpless mens' careers are being ruined when they're barely facing any permanent consequences.  Louis CK just came back to stand up, there have been reports that Charlie Rose is plotting a comeback and it's hardly been a year since all three of these guys were fired and/or exposed.  These men are just biding their time.  They know there are enough sympathetic people in both the business and the general public that will welcome them back with open arms.

So he should stay unemployed for the rest of his life?  I think he and accused men like him should be able to get on with their lives and get jobs.  No one says anything when someone gets out of prison and gets a job.

I’m not sure if anyone wants to watch these guys even if people in the business are sympathetic.  Perhaps if they waited 10 years or so.....  I suppose they could work behind the scenes.

Sure, it's entirely possible that his comeback will bomb.  I'm just saying that he has a right to pursue employment and if somebody wants to take a chance on him, then I don't see what the problem is.  People who don't like him won't watch him, and that's ok too.

Sure, he can pursue employment.  I never liked him so very seldom watched him.  Just seemed too smug & self righteous.

There were rumors Jeff Zucker wanted to bring Matt Lauer over to CNN.

Zucker denied the rumors but I wouldn't be surprised if the only thing keeping Zucker from hiring Lauer was the fear of backlash from CNN staffers and the media.  I also wouldn't be surprised if Zucker went ahead and hired Lauer because CNN's ratings are terrible and that could get them some attention in the short term.

The woman who accused Matt of rape came forward and told her story to Ronan Farrow:

I hope this puts an end to Meredith, Hoda and Savannah making comments about how much they like Matt.  Hell, Meredith just told People she talks to him all the time.

They need to clean house at NBC News and Today, behind the scenes, the higher ups and the on air talent.  If the producers and interns knew, then Meredith, Al, Hoda, and everyone who worked with Matt during that time period knew.
