happy birthday peacheslatour....

hope your day is great, filled with love, presents and lots of cake...<3

Thank you! Lol, I got my beautiful fireplace screen that I'm using to keep the bunnies out of my glads. The little bastards ate them all last year! Probably going to have Belgian Waffles for dinner.

No surprise to me, and Austin is supposed to be the liberal mecca of Texas. Yeah, right.

Years ago, I was warned to stay away from music venues that were on the eastside of Hwy 35 (it splits the city in half, in more ways than topography), because it was considered the "bad" side of town.

Yay America!

Late to this party, but any liberal cred that city has is only from the number of us Californians who understandably do not want to fight the increasing rents and have moved out of state. Austin is "liberal" but can hardly change Texan political culture anymore than San Diego's veteran transplants has made a dent in the Great Blue Wall (its considered the most conservative of the four major cities in California, which continues to astonish me).

I briefly considered a transfer to San Antonio at a job I had, but I figure there may be a chance I'll ever be pregnant and by then it'll be a "geriatric" one, so I'd like to have all my medical options on the table, if you know what I mean.

I neglected to mention that the eastside music venues mentioned were hosting SXSW concerts I was assigned to attend. Being warned off by the sponsor after they had booked the venue made no sense to me; What's up with this? I talked a couple of people to go along and hired a car service. The evening passed without incident, and I got a chance to talk to band members and venue owner. I've been back to the eastside of Austin many times over the years, and still nothing untoward has happened to me. I'm greeted warmly and get to touch base with long time associates and colleagues.

I have no illusions about what is labeled as liberal or conservative. Very often people are liberal to what they think benefits themselves, and conservative on what they think benefits others.

I hope this isn't too political, but I told my neighbor the other day that if more people realized this, fewer people would have political arguments.  If this is too political, I hereby give myself a bunny eating a banana:

Today is National Burrito Day!

We have a Del Taco down the street from to station, and I gave everyone $20 gift cards for lunch -- We exceeded our March sales goals (usually a slow month), and I'm trying to spread some of the good will.

There used to be an excellent taco truck across the street, but they lost their parking space and moved away.

Dagnabbit!

When I was young, I wanted to be Merle Haggard. <insert laugh track here> But not having the musical talent -- I did practice hard, to the chagrin of my family -- my talents and ambitions moved elsewhere.

Yesterday, Mr. Stunt and I attended the dedication of the Merle Haggard Post Office in Bakersfield, California, 93301. Our sister country station did a simulcast from the location. Originally, management wasn't interested in broadcasting, not thinking the dedication was all that important. I convinced them otherwise to take their show, gimme bags and talent on the road to Bakersfield, The sister station broadcasts Modern Country (what I call Country Pop), and Merle Haggard is a name that gets mentioned when country artists are interviewed about who influenced their music.

The weather was beautiful. There was a good crowd, and even a few protesters -- What's a dedication without a few naysayers? And district Congressman Kevin McCarthy was there to yelp at (tariffs and trade wars are an annoyance in farm country).

Good fun.

Thanks everyone for the lovely belated bday wishes. I really wasn't angling for them, honest. But I do like that Y&R and I share the same bday. Even if the show's not what it used to be.

Happiest birthday SweePea! I hope you get decent weather, this year has been strange weatherwise.

I can't tell anyone here where I live, but I've been enjoying this unseasonably long winter weather we've been having. Everyone else, and I do mean everyone else, has been complaining so much. How can I tell them I like it? When I hear the daily complaints I just shake my head and say, yeah, but think, yay!

Funny, I never had you pegged as an Okie From Muskogee. ;-)

; )

One of Merle's many nicknames was the "Okie From Muskogee," taken from his song of the same title that became a conservative anthem during the Vietnam War. But "conservative" was never the way to describe who Merle Haggard was. A pioneer of both the Bakersfield sound and the Outlaw Country movement, the country music phenomenon was a California native and one-time resident of San Quentin Prison, he was a rule breaker both in and out of the studio, developing a sound that has been emulated by countless artists since who've walked in -- and worshiped -- his bootsteps.

Merle wrote and sang songs with three chords and the truth through out his 54-year career.

Meh, don't be embarrassed to admit what you like.  I despise winter more than most people here despise Billy LOL and live for heat & humidity.  When someone bitches in the summer, I am more than happy to say "Well, I LOVE it" :)

Belated happy birthday to you!

My mother wouldn't let me use baby oil, so I'd sneak out the cooking oil when she wasn't looking :)

My husband would kill me if he knew I told this story.

When he was a kid people were putting iodine in their baby oil to facilitate their tans. He misunderstood and poured half a bottle of mercurochrome into his baby oil. Lulz, he was bright red for days..

I don't know if you've ever heard of a Fatberg, but we had one removed from the sewer system pumping station at the north of the block. Since Monday morning we've had the water turned off periodically while the city redirects waste water. We are on a Toilet-to-Tap water system, and there are rules about what can be flushed -- allegedly "flushable" wet wipes have been strictly prohibited since 1996, with clear reminders printed with every water/sanitation utility bill.

Anyway, the city has the sewer torn up, digging out part of the alley and a retaining wall connected to the neighboring property we own (the retaining wall will be replaced when the work is completed). The trench they've dug looks like a Vietnam era defensive perimeter, When talking to the foreman of the project I jokingly told him I wanted an M60 on each end of the trench line with interlocking fields of fire, with claymores in front of each fighting position, I also told him that the fat kid he’s got working for him was on listening post duty tonight. and no smoking after dark. The foreman chuckled. Fat kid looked at me like I was dangerous (Isn't everyone?). The Iraq vet (1st Battalion 7th Marines tat) on the backhoe laughed his ass off. For what this is costing the city, I should get to talk like all the other crazy people who've been yelling at them all day.

It's days like this at work when you realize how low people will go to kiss you badda-boom-badda-bing. -- "Please don't do that."

I was so unhappy, I laid down in front of an ice cream truck ... They have to stop! -- "Gimme' a Chocolate Éclair and Choco Taco ... Waddaya' mean I can't I ride along on the running board? What if I want something else?"

Ice cream truck drivers have no sense of humor.

I attended a Chamber of Commerce luncheon today to observe Yom Hashoah, which is also known as Holocaust Remembrance Day. It commemorates the lives and heroism of Jewish people who died in the Holocaust between 1933 and 1945. There was two minute moment of silence, lighting of memorial candles, reciting the Kaddish, which is a prayer for the departed. and a speaker from the Los Angeles Jewish Federation.

My parent's and eldest sister came into the city -- Dad's in for his 10,000 mile check-up on his joint replacements, and my sister has an appointment with a new oncologist. Bea is subject to benign tumors that are removed and tested. She goes through this process about every 18 months. Her condition has been studied extensively at UCLA Medical Center. She's meeting to see if she qualifies for a new treatment other than scans and surgery.

My mother is tense; that means cooking, baking, and annoying the cat with the vacuum cleaner. Melvin is sulking in one of his hidey holes. Thing2 brought his roommates to lighten the mood, talk smack about Coachella, and eat everything in sight. There was fight over the last dumpling -- Dad won.
