That Tic Tac bit was picked up all over late night and social media, but none that I watched mentioned that he was probably supposed to be using the props as an example of "shrinkflation," which is a form of inflation. If anyone was going to mention that, I would bet it would be Seth. But nope. Shrinkflation was a buzz word on some of those entertainment/news spots a month or so ago, but I guess not too many remember? If the person doing the Tic Tac bit remembered the term "shrinkflation," likely he figured his audience wouldn't, so he (or the teleprompter person) substituted "inflation," which did not make it any better. opus August 23 Share August 23 I think last night I would have interviewed the whole band and not just Fred, who, let’s be honest, we hear from enough. I also noticed all week Seth (wasn’t allowed to?) never said exactly why this was the end for the 8G Band. 3 1 Link to comment

Seth is a good company man who owes a lot to Lorne and NBC. Reports said that he did all he could to negotiate a budget that would include the band. No need to bring, or imply, any ill-will during the tribute, it's just business. 1 2 Link to comment

It's an interesting bit of evidence on how the Late Night TV world has changed a ton in the last 15 years. Because even with a band the budget for Seth's version of Late Night must be tiny. Pretty much the entire show takes place from the desk with hardly even any kind of big props or anything like that. But looking back to when Conan was hosting Late Night he was doing remotes bits (including travelling overseas), he filmed the show from other cities and he even did a claymation episode. The only time Seth leaves the studio is for Day drinking. Plus Conan's band leader would go on to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame so he couldn't have been cheap. cpcathy August 24 Share August 24 It’s interesting, Seth’s Late Night is the least goofy of all the Late Nights. Dave was odd and dry, Conan was absurdly hilarious, Jimmy has a place in my heart for being warm and silly and he was at his most natural. 4 Link to comment

DXD526 September 16 Share September 16 The Day Drinking with Kevin Hart was the first time I ever bailed on that segment, which is normally highly entertaining. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, since Mr. Hart's charms are largely lost on me, but I couldn't get through it. It just wasn't funny. And there seemed to be a shortage of drinking, compared to the copious amounts of alcohol that usually flow in this segment. There was a lot more talk than tipping, at least in the part I saw. And what was that whole toilet training thing all about? Hart seemed to be implying that it meant that 'going' in his underwear was ok. He basically said this a couple of times, before Seth was like, "You never go in your underwear!" Like Hart needed to be told this? It was just weird. But from now on, whenever I see KH in a commercial (which is often), I'm going to be thinking, 'He's 'going' right now!!' 2 2 Link to comment

LaylaGirl September 24 Share September 24 I am really going to miss the band. All through the pandemic I watched both the opening and ending just to see them in the different spots in their homes. I really enjoyed Marni and her kids. It is funny what you remember from Covid - the 8G band will be one of my strongest memories. 3 2 Link to comment

Ms Lark September 29 Share September 29 I also miss the band. It was always better when they had guest drummers, which seemed to be more and more of the time. I think of Fred as "all of the (rich boy) kit and none of the talent." 2 Link to comment

shapeshifter October 3 Share October 3 (edited) Watching Wednesday night's show on Peacock now. Seth is very hoarse. Just said he had a "cold." I shudder for his interviewees. Nevertheless. Best written stuff, best props, best visuals of the Late Nights. The "I do you right now" Closer Look is Emmy worthy, hoarseness and all. Edited October 3 by shapeshifter 4 Link to comment

possibilities October 4 Share October 4 His debate round up was so much better than Colbert's. Seth seems to really care about politics and pay attention to more than the obvious jokes. He contextualizes and really digs into the substance of an issue. I was horrified he was breathing all over his guests, though, with whatever virus he's carrying. They were even hugging! 4 Link to comment

Sometimes he just seems to be reading lines he was given by his writers. This time he seemed a bit more involved. Regardless, I'm sure he does have a say in what's said. And his show usually takes a beat of a day or so before going live with the newest news — time which they seem to use to make it better than the rushed commentaries that air right after a debate, speech, etc. 12 hours ago, possibilities said: I was horrified he was breathing all over his guests, though, with whatever virus he's carrying.
