S07.E09: Birthday In The Berks

Recommended Posts

Had Heather managed a successful grab of Bethenny's hand, the momentum in which she twirled and moved, in addition to the uneven distribution of weight between her and Beth - there would have been dragging. There might have been flinging. Bethenny ricocheting from wall to wall would have made that dinner infinitely more interesting.

There was no actual dragging, but not because Heather didn't try. She failed because Beth pulled her hand away. But there was totally a grab. And an attemped drag.

It would have been like a ten yard penalty in football. Not at all innocent, but it's not like she clotheslined somebody and they had to be carried off the field on a stretcher, either.

Absolutely an attempt to take Beth away and chat.  I don't know if it is a grab or not, but she should have known better.

Tonight of course we will see the tables turn and Beth be the one reaching out. The difference is that Heather doesn't push her away.

No spoilers, Mama! ;-) I don't watch First Looks or read the thread because new episodes give me something to live for. Actually, I did watch once and participated in the thread and it somehow confused me. Doesn't take much, anymore. LOL. Couldn't keep the details of what happened in which week straight.

Actually, you are correct. Beth didn't make a huge deal out of it, she just seemed disinterested in the conversation.  The big deal was really made on this, and other forums, such as Vulture. This deal has been added to the list of sins committed by Heather.  Often when someone goes on and on about the reasons that Beth has for not liking Heather, this episode gets included, which makes it seem like it was some type of atrocity. For several pages it was getting thrown around that Heather was aggressive with Beth and "demanded" that she buy Lu a car. All kinds of ridiculous.

True, but Beth has been snarky about it making reference to what Heather said afterwards and in her TH Beth isn't really putting a positive spin on that particular interaction.  It's typical negative, something's amiss, "what she said was offensive" Bethenny tone. I also saw the particular conversation as a bit hee hee ha ha combative as well.

I know.  I stated 'attempted' drag.  Here's the thing.  How do you know Beth was going to 'drag' Beth?  I think it's an overstatement, especially since it didn't happen.  Heather never grabbed Beth's hand.  She actually never touched Beth's hand.  When Heather was reaching to Beth, her hand was up near Beth's wrist and Beth smoothly lifted her arm.  It was seamless.  No jerk movement on the part of Beth at all.  Really.  Take another look.  There was no grab.

But if there was no grabbing kicking and screaming how on earth can Heather be the physically abusive, knowitall, bossypants, ,mamaspewing, menace to society that she apparently is? LOL!

Dang, I have to bone up on physics now! (as if I knew anything it in the first place)  ;)

Andy could splice in a cartoon rendition of it, with BANG! ZING! PLONK! and all.

I vote cartoon renditions of all the HW's fights.

I like to see the guests on WWHL read some HW's fights, they seem even sillier than the real fight.

You wrote that "Heather lovers gonna Heather love," which sounds like blind loyalty to me, but regardless, I don't think it's an entirely fair representation of these threads - this one, other past episode threads, or her own thread.

That was another poster, not me. But to see Heather's behavior as aggressive every week is certainly interpreting the same behavior in a different way, to put it mildly. Maybe Heather haters gonna Heather hate?

It's funny, I was going to mention that in my last post, but I thought nah, it's so glib and dumb, it was clearly just an offhanded thing.  Turns out that was a key objection!  We really do see things differently.

I will say that hate is too strong; can we split the difference and go with Heather dislikers gonna Heather dislike? Because that I could agree with (speaking for myself only of course). Although...yesterday someone posted a tweet Heather made recently, something about her feeling she didn't like herself that much that day (extreme paraphrasing alert), and it made me soften towards her because I felt for her, and because it stripped away the cockiness that bugs me so much.  Then this morning I read something she wrote and the disliking is back to full strength. My Heather liking can't win for losing either!

Oh well, we'll always have yesterday.. ;)

LOL. Once in a great while...a great, great while, Andy will do a mash-up on WWHL of a scene that cracks me up.  Now, if of the blue he would insert a BANG! or KAPOW! or even a new fangled OWNED! into the regular episode it might be amusing.  At the very least it would wake me from my dozing that happens often, lately.

I'm not getting a particularly 70' vibe from that outfit....but I think LuAnn could rock a 70's look, it would go with her Charlie's Angels hair!

It may have been a UK thing but Biba was all over that kind of Hi-Glam look in the early-to-mid '70s.  This is a pic of Twiggy in a Biba shot from the early 70s:  http://www.whatgoesaroundnyc.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/c31e9b96c82d58d52385973a7a99938e.jpg

I'm secretly looking forward to it; I'll freely admit to having "Money Can't Buy You Class" and "Chic C'est La Vie" on my running mix (though collapsing in laughter when she gets to the "Alex & Simon / and I'll bring the diamonds" bit wreaks havoc on my distances).

Come quick Luanne put your latest statement necklace on Bethenny (you know the one - the ocean liner anchor with steel chain)

Ramona give me 4 bottles of Pinot Grigio, let's tie those to her ankles and hands.

I saw Heather grab Bethy's hand....well, not actually grab but more like  take her hand.

I saw Heather twirl..... well, not actually twirl but more like turn.

I saw Heather attempt to drag Bethy..... well, not actually drag because it never got past Bethy raising and removing her hand from Heather's hand.

Heather was completely 100%, foolish in keeping up the conversation and 100% foolish in walking  over to Bethy.  Adding the extra drama of grabbing, attempted dragging and twirling makes me chuckle, really.

Heather should have shut herself down after telling Dorinda there were meatballs and let the rest of dinner go.  Lu was right.  When Beth is like that just back away.

Exactly...sort of like poor Carole at CB2.

All she asked was if Bethenny was going to go to the Berkshires for Dorinda's party and Bethenny had a meltdown.

When Sonja/Bethenny/Dorinda's brother in law were cackling in their own world..just leave them be.

I was actually commenting on his lack of a supportive or consoling reaction to Heather when she returned to her seat.

I didn't Zapruder it or anything, but before raising his glass Jonathan can briefly be seen removing his arm from around Heather, so it appears he was consoling her at some point.

Heather probably hated the concern, though, and commenced to stab him in the leg with a fork until he took his arm away.

Bethenny's inability to function at full capacity is not the fault of her coworkers. They should not have to walk on eggshells around her, afraid she'd break down.

She should've made sure she is capable of dealing with stressful situations before signing on to a reality show. She of all people should know what was in store for her.

Nope.  I did just Zapruder it and Jonathan never has his arm around Heather at any point.  He never touches her, nothing.   He looks pretty toasted and like he wants no part of the drama whatsoever. Which I can totally understand, lol.  They were having a really nice evening until Heather went rogue schoolmarm on everybody.

I noticed that right before Heather went off the rails people were saying the word "respect" "respect" to her like the perception at the table was that Heather was not being respectful of what Bethenny was asking for and people were trying to explain it to her.  I heard Ramona's voice in particular.  So visual editing aside, that seems to have been how people around the table that night perceived Heather's treatment of Bethenny.  She was not just respecting what Bethenny said about wanting to have a big deal made out of everything she said.

  • Love 3

I just noticed this as I Zapruder'd Jonathon and his nervous/drunken/embarrassed smile and toast:

Heather to Bethenny, enunciating s-l-o-w-l-y for the dumbasses in the room:  "So you're clear on what my in-TEN-tion waaaaas...."

Bethenny: "I don't need you to talk to me like that. I don't want to do this.  I'm not interested in this."

I'm not Beth's fan but I am glad to know that she, and likely the others, are witness to that patronizing tone.  Even if you take away all of Heather's motherfuckers and threats of letting "that bitch know who she's fucking with", even if she's using her inside voice and non-cuss words - she's still a mean and hostile woman.                                                                                                        .

In one recap that I read, I think in Vulture, the writer said that Luann stayed in Dorinda's house in a room full of stuffed fish, which Luann tried to wrestle off the wall to

appropriate as a statement necklace.

I laughed.

I've been at the beach, so just watched this episode.

Wow, Bethenny can really suck all the air out of a room. I was really enjoying the episode until she showed up.

I thought Heather was just being kind, but as usual, Bethenny makes it nefarious. I really felt bad for Heather as it was obvious she was very uncomfortable. Her "separating the two of you" comment was obviously a joke, but Bethenny is on a mission to make Heather look bad. Hey B, take a few bucks and buy a sense of humor why don't you. Bethenny has to always make everything about her. I don't believe for a second that Bethenny doesn't want attention, that's exactly what she craves and I agree the other HW's are afraid to poke the crazy.

My gawd, Ramona is just an embarrassment. I don't know how they tolerate her. She looked horrible in her dress.

Was Kristen even shown at the dinner?

Dorinda's decorating (not Christmas)-- ugh!!!

Well, Dorinda's not exactly old money, though I did appreciate her mentioning her family did not grow up wealthy.

I wanted to like the house, but it looks too much like one of those "let's let every room be done by a different decorator" type things. No cohesion, and the purple couches and jarring room colors were a bit much for me. The views were gorgeous.

What I really didn't like was the 2 different stories of how the house was bought. To the women she says Richard bought it for her, in the story of telling her father it was "I" bought it. But at least we now know where the rest of her $$ goes. I wonder what the taxes are on that property?

I am also wondering how Beenny will spin the "I absolutely cannot go to the Berkshires. -- Hi, I'm here!"

Edited because Texas and taxes are not the same. Damned Apple auto-correct!

I hear ya, Mrs. Peel -- who bought the house -- Dorinda or Richard or both??  And when I was listening to Dorinda's story about her father, saying he "worked there as a telephone man" I wondered what the heck that meant.  Did he work for the phone company and install some stuff there once or a few times?  I mean, I never heard of a full time telephone maintenance man for a private residence.  Puzzling.

I also agree with you on the decoration of Dorinda's house -- too overdone for my taste. The super ornate fireplace paired with super dramatic jewel tone and heavily wood-worked walls -- just way too much!  The different room/different theme thing is too hotel-y or B&B for someone's home IMHO.  Loved all the windows though.

But it's an easy way for the Bethenny uber-fans to discount & dismiss any criticism of Bethenny, by saying it's from a hater.  Way too easy, and usually off-base & just plain limiting.

I hope you're right.  "Hate" is such an ugly word and there's far too much of it in the world.

Snarking about them is fun but ripping them apart in post after post is not.  Even though I really, really dislike both of them, I jumped off the Kim and Brandi hate train last season.  The tone of those discussions was just too "hateful" for me.

While we're on the subject of hating/disliking/raking someone over the coals, when did "Satan" Andy come to be?  "Satan" is another word I don't use lightly.

I am hard on Kim R because, IMO, enough is enough with covering up for/with her. She needs to face the cold hard reality of what and where her life is going before she ODs.

I was once a fan of Bethenny's and something made me see her in a different light. IMO, she blamed everyone in her past for her ugly behaviors, never sought therapy outside the fake show therapy and expected everyone to forgive her for whatever she did/said to hurt/upset them because she had a horrid childhood forever. IMO, she now wears that attitude/way of thinking as a badge of honor. Thanks for the explanation WireWrap. I had no idea it was so widely used. Those who use it should remember that if wasn't for Andy we wouldn't be here snarking about the HWs because they wouldn't exist.

I have to admit there is one HW that I do hate.....Teresa Giudice. That's not because of what she did on the show though. It's because she made a mockery of our legal system and we're all paying the price for her greed.

I think both the words "love" and "hate" are thrown around too lightly.  I think very few of us actually love or hate any of these people.  We don't even know them.  They're characters on a television show.  Yes, I know it's "reality TV", but for the viewers, these folks are characters - they just happen to play the part of themselves.  What we see on these shows are tiny parts of their daily lives, in circumstances that aren't organic, and highly edited for entertainment value.  We can dislike the role the person is playing in the show at the time, but we don't know enough about these women to truly love or hate them.  That's why I try to leave as much room for compassion as possible.  The circumstances have been manipulated too much to have a true picture of who these women are in real life.
