Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

Jill has to make  everything about herself.  I wonder if she talks about how Janessa is missing the connection between the two brain hemispheres in her birthday post to her.

Of course she will because the evil doctors presented potential outcomes and options when Janessa had the in utero stroke, and termination of the pregnancy was one of those options,

Where do you watch the chapel service?

They are on the school's fb page live. Usually Wed. and Fri. at 11am. They stay up after that though, so you can watch anytime.

I have never believed that story of hers.

Donations must be down along with some negative feedback because JillR is really hitting back with the WE WORK message.

She might want to consider the optics. They went from living almost full time in their RV going from church to church with their litter of kids. Now they live in a tchotchke filled home and vacation more than they preach and a third (half?) of their kids are adults.

Donations are going to keep decreasing JillR. God may have to call David to work at a Staples or UPS type store.

Well, Kaylee's kids will get a sub-sub-subpar homeschooling effort and meager meals as time goes on, so they might as well get on the musical grifting train. That way, they'll get some food at the churches.

I was just imagining Jill's reaction if 2-3 kids down the line, Kaylee & Jonathan decide to leave the traveling grift show, sell their house that has become too small for their growing family and move near his family for some opportunity. Jill would lay such a guilt trip on them if that were to happen. I doubt that either of them has the courage to stand up to her, so it will probably never come up, but it would be the only way they could lead their own lives.

I keep hoping that a spouse's family will provide enough rational approach and stability that one of the kids will break free.  I think if one makes it, then a few others will find the strength to follow.

MONTHS of hard work.  Yet  they are 1/3 of the total produced all year.  I know Jill is not good at arithmetic math but if 1 order took months and it is a major portion of your year, your "ministry" is not doing well.

Someone on FJ did the math, and they made $20k on this order. So $60k a year before taxes (yeah, right). Still not enough to support a family the way Jill spends.

Is this part of the salary from the missionary clearinghouse, or do the Rods get paid separately for these orders?

I find it hard to believe they’re making 60K per year.

More, actually, since they get the missionary money from the clearinghouse. I have no clue how many churches support them, but they do have a regular circuit that they perform at every year.

When Jill talks about her midwives, I think she is referring to self-taught midwives, not people who actually have gone to school and learned things.  They were probably monitoring her baby's position in labor as well as the amount of blood she was losing with the miscarriage.

According to Jill, she was being “guided by” her midwife through phone calls. She says she passed out after an hour of hemorrhaging. Hemorrhaging that she thought was normal. 🤦‍♀️

60k and they are self employed.  So 25% roughly for the self employment tax.   Plus probably they don't do quarterly payments so that penalty.  But they are trying to support that whole family on 45k a year?

Yes there is the clearing house but how much does that add?

True, self employment taxes are brutal. IF they even pay them.

Do any people other than Jill's downline join these events she hosts? Plexus recruiting is like handing out smiley tracts. Only the people already onboard pay any attention.

There were a few women there who knows if they are new or already part of Jill’s team

Does this mean BME and Dave aren’t hauling all their work down to Florida themselves? Isn’t January usually spent in Florida “working”?

Amazing Grace Mission is in Tennessee. So they had to drop these off going hundreds of miles out of their way with two small children.

These people are just brilliant. /sarcasm

We also don't know if part of their agreement with the mission clearing house includes providing Smiley tracts at no cost for overseas missions, etc.  Or big discounts to other participants. When Jill says they printed a quarter of a million tracts in the past year, I would be surprised if they got paid full asking price for all of them.

I'm pretty sure a lot of their travel grifting is to churches that support the mission clearing house and, if the Rods weren't participating, they wouldn't get the invite.

So, $60,000 minus discounts and freebies.

Jill and David are listed on the Central Missionary Clearing House website as a Printing Ministry, so they have to print religious material as part of their duties. The website says that missionaries are supposed to support themselves. However, they receive some personal and ministry support from the CMC, which is funded by church donations.

All this is to agree that $60,000 a year is probably what they receive, and they have to appear at some of the participating churches. The money isn't enough, obviously, so Jill tries to make up the rest by grifting and selling overpriced "health" powders. I don't see any reason David couldn't do some commercial printing for carefully selected clients.

Jill's obsession with shopping, vacationing, and restaurant meals seems a little much for the missionary lifestyle, but the CMC doesn't dictate how the money is spent.

Right off the bat, I only know about copying with a copy machine.  For those who know how long would it take to print those throwaways?  Are they two sided and trifold? Would the printer do the bifold or trifold or do the poor kids have to do it?  There must be a master that is used so the design doesn’t need to be done every time. I just don’t get the “months of work”. Unless it’s because she uses the start day and the end day and included all the weeks they are not home.  I don’t get it. But if I’m wrong I’ll admit it.

From what JillR has shown us, I think there is a machine that does the folding. Anytime she’s shown Dave working, he seems to be mostly standing around. Which I guess for him is very strenuous. Lots of pictures show that the kids do all the stuffing type work, often late at night.

That activity would interfere with his lounging in his recliner, studying the "map."

And driving Jill on her vacations.  Being self-employed actually means working a LOT of hours because its not just the work itself, its all the administrative tasks that go with it.   Plus hustling for clients.   All the things other people do when you work for someone else.

GOOD LORD, that picture of Janessa.   Way to sexualize your small daughter in order to get $$$$$.   There's a word for people who do that.   And it isn't Godly.

Driving, yes. I'm not sure about the hustling for clients and administrative tasks. The clearing house takes $3 of every donation to cover their costs and provide personal services for the missionaries. CMC holds bank accounts, files quarterly tax forms, pays insurance premiums, and performs other tasks. Jill seems to schedule the yearly church visits.

I wonder how many hours these kids spend on “school” compared to the number of hours they spend stuffing envelopes. 🥲

Although that answers the questions about taxes.   They ARE paying taxes on that 60K.

Technically, yes. But with so many deductions, they can't be paying much, if anything. I should point out that missionaries aren't required to use the clearing house's administrative services. There may be some effort to keep everyone legal, but miscreants answer to the pastors who vouched for them, not to CMC. The CMC website is a bit hazy about some things but a moderately interesting rabbit hole.

I think David is lazy and maybe doesn't feel well. Jill looks hyped up on something all the time.
