Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

There is video of Janessa bugging the crap out of poor little cinnamon. She’s trying to put a crown on him/her, and then trying to put on a dress. Perfect cinnamon is growling and nipping. Jill told her to take a break, but then the next video is of her continuing to bug the dog. Damn that kid is so spoiled. I thought cinnamon was mommy‘s new baby.

I think Jill doesn't care if Cinnamon, Janessa, or anybody else gets hurt as long as it doesn't involve troubling Jill with a medical visit. Medical emergencies do make dramatic social media stories about the goodness of God, however.

Phillip was shown singing in the church choir since christmas. That makes me think he is probably not just in town for a short visit.

He gained weight being away from home. I guess we will watch him shrink back to his pre-college, pre-escape bony self now that he's back.

Jill, ten "children" may live at home, but that's because you've crippled your adult offspring from launching into the real world. You have 3 adults living with you, and Tessie turns 18 this year.

Take a hard look at Phillip and Renee then get back to your post about the big, boisterous family. Those two are miserable.

Ah, I see we've moved from "richer living through Plexus" to "Jill Rod, fashion maven (buy the look here!)" and now we're back to "a poor, GODLY woman with sooo many delightful little waifs to feed (send money, Mahmo needs a 16th vacation!!)".

What fantasy is this woman living in? Does she really believe this describes her house? Does she think this is the image her social media posts portray?

We've seen children tiptoeing around David sleeping in his lounger. He seems to spend a lot of time not wanting to be disturbed, so the kids know the consequences of lively noise and banging on the piano.

and not even tiptoeing for just everyday things. Jill filmed the older children, including Jonathan and Kaylee tiptoeing and whispering around sleeping David while they did an Easter egg hunt.

David is also often absent or shown sleeping during those late night devotions Jill posts. He is always shown at least sitting upright during the manly led nightly devotions on the once a year vacation when Nathan and Jonathan are there though

I fear new puppy is gonna bite Janessa. Jill doesn't even bother teaching her kids to leave the dogs alone. poor puppy will be removed from the household once she bites.

Jill isn't stopping Janessa from tormenting the poor puppy. Cinnamon is just trying to defend herself.

It won't end well.

They’re seasons, don’t you know?!  All Fundies go through a lot of seasons, but Mahmo goes through more than most.

I don’t which word is more vomit-inducing - “season” or “journey.” Or maybe “sweet?” Am I the only woman who has never really aspired to being seen as “sweet?”

I think you mean “whimpy.” FIFY 😂

Somewhat serious question here...Is the spelling "whimpy" in this forum a joke that I missed somewhere along the line? I've actually been meaning to ask that for a while, because I've always spelled it as wimpy, and that's been mostly the way I've seen it, but I've also seen it spelled as whimpy much more here than otherwise, though most of the time it doesn't really read as ironic, so I've come to the conclusion that it much just be an alternate, if rarer spelling. Now there's this post, which suggests that it IS meant jokingly. So now I'm just curious and confused.🤷‍♀️

In one episode Michelle told the older girls (can't remember which ones) that a wife has to be available to her husband and it doesn't take too long.

You are correct.  Jill is incorrect.  Jill must have her own dictionary.

And also hear a lot of the Dugger kids use the word “whenever” when it should just be “when”. They all do it, but I hear it mostly from Jinger because she’s the one I see talk the most. Some kind of failure going on there, Lollie.

I do actually know a lot of people (mostly when we have been stationed in more southern states) who use "whenever" that way, so I've gotten to where I attribute it much more to regional than educational differences.

And more proof she hasn’t been bothered to educate herself, despite all of her whining about what a poor education she received. I have no patience for her.

And when did “anyway” become “anyways”? I don’t think that’s regional, it just seems to be a new trend. It bugs me. I hate AutoCorrect because they add too many commas and things that are wrong, and I hate going back to check. My sister was an English professor, and my mom was a secretary to some big wigs. She came from an immigrant family and had a big chip on her shoulder about speaking English correctly. My dad always got hell for that.

I have to disagree with Jill.  Every one of her sons seems wimpy to me.   She and David have made them that way by their parenting.

Agree, they don't seem very strong and manly to me.

As an Arkansan, I can attest to that. My family doesn’t use it that way, but I’ve come across many who do. I’ve found it to be more common in older generations. The younger ones I’ve heard speak that way tend to be more “rural.” The older people I know who use whenever that way have all been very well educated.

The obsession with “manliness” is pathetic and reeks of protesting too much.

But that’s not surprising. Their devotion and piety stinks too.

Jill's so performative.  Ugh.

A pet peeve of mine is when someone types tow the line.  It's toe the line, like Drill Sergeant Foley says in An Officer and a Gentleman.  "Put your TOES on the edge of that chalk line!"

I would say that Jill's sons are wimpy, and how could they be anything else, considering their upbringing.

''They love God, but they are not sissies.''

Is she implying that men who love God usually are ''sissies''?

That sentence makes no sense to me.

Me neither. I don’t personally think loving God has anything to do with where one falls on the Macho-Sissy Scale.

I think it's the love part that she's attributing the sissiness to. Because it's God, it's ok for them to show LOVE but if they loved something or someone else, that could potentially be seen as a sissy trait. I don't know; Jill is weird.

I think it is more that God is male but their loving him doesn't mean they are gay.

Toe the line is one of my pet peeves too! I also hate It when someone refers to something bad as “There’s a pit in my stomach.” It should be “I feel it in the pit of my stomach.”

The first one sounds like you’ve been swallowing peaches whole. The second one means you feel it deeply.

My next lesson will be the weather forecasters use of breezy vs windy….

Who would even think that? It's never occurred to me that men loving God could be considered gay.

Jill just wants to show how macho her boys are. They are wrestle! They occasionally hunt!!! They're manly men, not WHIMPS! 🙄

I don't think that but Jill? Possibly....

Jill faced an impossible task when it came to raising her sons: "How can I turn my boys into men of strength and valor like the Old Testament heroes, yet still keep them so terrified of my anger that they obey my every command and constantly placate me with praise and gifts?"

Why can’t she try and help bulk them up (ha ha, just thought about SNL and pump you up) if she is so worried about them looking like “whimps”? Do they have any weight sets? How about some protein powder if they can’t eat? It is very cheap to carbo load. What food does she even buy for the house if not carbs to fatten up the kids? Geez, you can make a pretty huge lasagna or mac & cheese for not much money. You don’t have to use any meat. And so many things you can do with cheap beans. How about a giant pot lentil or black bean soup?

I think the problem is more control than not being able to afford enough food. They are brainwashed to pray and fast. Maybe that keeps them weak and obedient. Nurie is still too skinny being mama’s favorite. But it looks like Kaylee is a little heavier than she was at home. And of course, Philip, that poor sweet soul.

Ugh, this always depresses me. What mother doesn’t want to feed her kids? Even animals have it over Jill.

“Anyway” is still correct! ❤️ This error drives me crazy, too. Also, seeing “bias” instead of “biased.” How the hell did that become a common error?

Yeah, her logic is warped beyond recognition. I suppose this line of thinking might occur to her. It's just lame that she has to present her sons that way at all.

It reminds me of her comments about how she was concerned years ago that one of her “darker” complected infant daughters might be mistaken for a boy. Because darker skin = male? No fucking clue!
