Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

I've roasted pumpkins seeds for years.  First you clean them and get the pumpkin goop off them.  She didn't do that.  Then lightly spray oil on the seeds or shake them in batches in a bit of oil. No glops of butter.  I shake a bit of seasoning over most trays.

I saw a recipe with melted butter. Jill is too lazy to even do that. And yes, they need to be cleaned!

I have tossed mine in a small amount of oil.  I don't see how butter would work as well.  And I feel like those uncooked pie crusts are abnormally dark, like gray?  Maybe they have an added ingredient I don't use??

Is she maybe using whole wheat flour?

My mom used to make pumpkin seeds for us when I was a kid.  Aside from thoroughly cleaning and rinsing the seeds, she'd lightly coat the baking pan with shortening or even use spray. Then, she'd spread the seeds out and sprinkle salt on them.  As others have noticed, pats of butter wouldn't distribute evenly and might burn before the seeds were done.

Looks like chocolate powder mixed in.

Are we supposed to be so openly gleeful as great Christians? Where is the empathy for the other side?

Because the other side are sinners and not the right kind of Christians. When you are the right kind, you can be all smug and happy because you are going straight to heaven when you die. God loves you best.

She's had those decorative pumpkins out for how long?    Where animals can chew on them and other things then just cuts them up to make ugly pies?

Welp, now we know why Ellen is still in Jill's Plexus downline.   They deserve each other.

Turned out Ellen isn't as accepting as we had hoped she'd be of her liberal, atheist, LGBT child.

I know you roast the seeds (I never have). I looked it  up and it seems you can toss them in light oil before hand but not pats of butter thrown on top. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I have toasted pumpkin seeds, and you are correct.  Just a little oil and some salt and toast them in the oven.  It is easier to go to the store and buy toasted pumpkin seeds, however.  I don't like all the mess.  I have never seen seeds or nuts "toasted" with butter.

Yes, I just buy them.

Just to lighten the mood away from politics.

Old post from Jill Dec 2020 on what they do with the seasonal pumpkins they buy. They are for decoration and then....the horror begins. Is baking pumpkin seeds with globs of butter a real thing?

"Our yearly tradition. What we do with all of decorative pumpkins we set around outside to decorate for the Fall. Yum.

-Pumpkin Seeds

-Pumpkin Pies

-Pumpkin Soup"

That kitchen is a mismatched shit show.  There are 3 different backsplashes in that one little corner.

That’s not butter.  It’s an off-brand margarine, I’m sure.

If you’ve noticed, they’re now slicking Gideon’s hair back too.  Gawd, I feel so sorry for that poor baby.

I went back and looked at the pictures.  Are they leaving the pumpkin slim on the seeds and just cooking them in margarine?  And she lets her kids eat them?  I understand not wasting food, but I would think I would put my time and resources into cooking something more substantial than slimy seeds and gray piecrust.  But what do I know.  I had stranger food than that at my grandma's house (worst cook ever).

I just made some pea soup in the InstantPot, and I discovered that one of my cats loves peas.

Not a fan of pea soup (I have tried) but I love bean soup of any kind.

My cat, who eats pretty much everything, leaves peas alone.

The "right kind of Christians" I know think they are going to be airlifted to heaven, leaving the majority of earth's people behind to suffer. No dying involved. I'm pretty sure Jill and David are in that camp because they talk about the glorious rapture.

Jill's piecrust reminds me of something Earth Mother Christian Kelly Havens would make with buckwheat flour and chia seeds. Looks hard to chew and worse to swallow.

If heaven is full of the "right kind of Christians" and people like Jill and Jim Bob, I'm glad those people think I'm going to hell. Hell sounds like it will be full of decent, kind folks.

I'm a Christian and if I'm surrounded by people like Jill and Jim Bob in heaven, I would rather be in hell.

the whole picture is a photoshop fail by Jill "I have a knack for graphic design" Rodrigues. Or whomever put it together.

Sounds like a Paula Deen recipe. Butter and lard galore.

I'm sorry, Jill, but #11?  "Strive to learn to have complete self discipline over your flesh"?   So why bother with your performative mahhhhdesty?  If the men around you aren't actively trying to control themselves, maybe surround yourself with better men and then you would find yourself able to wear weather- and activity-appropriate apparel.

I am perfectly happy in my little heathen world where I can wear pants and no makeup - and drink a glass of wine and eat all the cheetos I want - but thanks Jill.

Last night I had a crazy dream that Samuel and Gabriel were working with a team of guys turning our backyard into a campground. Some guy appeared with a heavily perfumed letter from Brianne to hand deliver to Samuel. But the guy gave it to Gabriel as a joke. The brothers were both very embarrassed.

Sam tells us since he married Brianne, every time his mama tries to share some private/personal info about them or soc. media, Brianne uses one of those long hot glue sticks to crack mama on her hands as she types. Which makes jill stop typing and she doesn't post. (the glue sticks the fundies use for toddler obedience training.)

Also, our neighbor was having a yard sale. Jill tried to grift some free stuff. Neighbor waved her hand around like she was shooing insects flying by her head and said "where is that glue stick I keep around to drive the pests away?" Jill ran to her van, while wearing her mermaid skirt, and left. 😂

There was more and it was all really funny.

It wasn't our actual house, yard or our neighbor. 🤷‍♀️

I have to ask, what is the deal with glue sticks and toddler obedience training?  That's something I haven't heard about.

I first heard about glue sticks from the Pearls in their book To Train Up A Child. Used on babies during blanket training and in potty training. Apparently, they don't leave a mark. 🙄

That's what I remember, too.  They are sturdy, have some flexibility and don't leave marks.

They don't leave a mark and are quiet. Maybe it was SHP where someone said that was the correction tool of choice in church if you were fidgety. Mom or older sister brought one of those down on your arm or leg. But that you could hear this swish in the air and knew someone was getting corrected.

David Keller was shown holding one at Nurie and Nathan's house not too long ago. It was in a video Jill post about the cousins playing.

Which means they are still using the Pearl method.

No one Nemo doesn't try to run away but just looks horrified every time Mimi clutches him and screeches in his face, he knows he will get beat if he doesn't just take it.
