Strangely enough, I have even seen the produce manager in our local grocery store give quizzes to the cashiers on what the different fruit and veg. is in an effort to help them when ringing up the produce.  Some can't name even the real obvious ones, but frankly I could understand confusion on things like ugli fruit and celeriac.  Personally, I find all that stuff interesting.  I even enjoy figuring out what the crops are when we drive by them.

I've had this happen to me with asparagus and different produce.  Cashiers didn't know what they were.

I was in eating disorder treatment with a girl who became anorexic after a gastric bypass.  The staff said it's becoming more common.

Having been in treatment for ED, and now I'm "in recovery"...sometimes something bad will happen and my first instinct is not to run to behaviors.  Which, in and of itself, is HUGE.  And I do have coping skills.  But sometimes, I just sit there like, fuck- what do I do now???  I can see how some of these patients fall into depression during the process.

Take this as a general comment made from a place we'll call "laughing loneliness"...how are 99% of these women married or otherwise boo'd up?  Heck, Tanisha divorced one husband and found another in a couple months, really? It ain't all fat fetishes and codependence--some of these relationships at least appear healthy and genuine. Or is it just me?! Maybe my singledom is skewing reality lol...

I've wondered that too.  Husbands will say "her weight didn't bother me".  But they weren't so disabled when they met.  Maybe they don't think she'll cheat due to past hurts.  I dunno.  I've wondered the same thing about women writing some guy in prison with a life sentence and ending up marrying him.

Lol, as big as a jerk Zzalynn's (sp) husband was, at least he was honest about his fetish.  And she knew it.

I always think about this too much. I've heard there's a lid for every pot, but come on.  Tracey was 500+ pounds in a nursing home when she met Anthony, a seemingly normal and nice looking man, online.  In that situation I don't think I'd be looking to hook up.  From the beginning of the relationship the man is wiping, bathing, and doing most everything in the house.  The man usually also accepts their dysfunctional extended family hanging around.  I don't get it either.

Are any of these guys really considered "a catch?"  I bet if one of these dudes went after you, you'd run the other way.  No offense, hugely obese people generally don't get the upper-middle class professional men.  Heck, regular obese women usually don't get these types either.  Wait - come to think of it, are there any single upper-middle class professional men (heterosexual for us ladies) left for anyone???

Yeah, turnips and rutabagas seem to be a bit confusing too.  I don't know why, turnips usually don't have that wax on them and they aren't nearly as huge!  Some people don't even know that beets come in other colors, like golden.  My Mom's dialysis dietitian didn't even know that and she has a degree.

My mom always made what we all thought was named turnips at holidays. She made them because my dad and sister loved them. When she got sick, I made thanksgiving dinner. Long story short, it wasn't until I went food shopping that I found out they were called rutabagas.

Damn are those things are hard to peel and cut. Both my mom and dad are gone but I still make them for tradition. I could get frozen but I won't. I love living on the edge. One of these days I'm gonna chop off a finger cutting them.

Sorry way off subject. But it made me nostalgic  reading the post.

Well said, I posted something like this on the Lupe thread but you said it better. I wasn't defending Gilbert but trying to say a bed-bound morbidly obese woman isn't going to attract the cream of the crop of men.

Has anyone here seen the ads on TLC for next week's episode featuring that (formerly) half ton of fun, Sean? He and mom are still hanging in there together. It appears to show him standing at a scale making his usual big old scrunched up "I'm in pain" face and the screen flashes his weight as 553 pounds. If so, that would mean, at least during the filming of this episode, he has lost 500 pounds! Honestly didn't think he would get that far. But, it also shows him in another scene hospitalized laying in bed and mommy tearfully expressing that she's afraid of him dying. Though I personally can't stand him I surely would never wish an early death on him.

Definitely must see TV for me especially with the Live Chat.

BTW, haven't seen any commercials featuring Britanni. Hope that means she's doing well.

Well auntjess because of you, and because I'm avoiding doing stuff I really need to be taking care of, I self volunteered to take a trip down the rabbit hole on your behalf, LOL. And what a dank, funky rabbit hole it is. The one I found was our dear Pauline Potter. At least she was but, according to her, she abandoned the feeder lifestyle to get help losing weight. We all know how well she used all of the free help she got from Dr. Now, don't we. ;-)

Anyway, the link to a blogger's website discussed all this and more.

WARNING: The following link contains photos of her in various poses--not nude--but scantily garbed and may cause you to throw up in your own mouth. Remember, you've been warned!

Thank you for your sacrifice DC Gal.  I don't want to look, someone was talking about how one person was paying bills, and I was wondering if feeder porn, or fat porn was the way.
I knew it had been mentioned before.  Please don't think I'm ungrateful, but I don't want to look.
And I'm a DC gal, who spent most of my life in Maryland, which I love, and am now in Florida, which I think of as behind enemy lines.

Hahahaha, it's really not that awful, no photos of her in a bikini or anything like that, just rolling around on the floor trying to look sexy, as if. Also, the story, though written in 2012, gives even more insight into her pathetic need for attention of any kind. All it says about sex is the story she tells about using sex to lose weight which I have seen mentioned elsewhere on this forum. It's actually pretty funny.

So you're another DC gal? And you abandoned us for Florida? Gee, aren't the Summers here Hell on Earth enough for you? :-) I've been to Miami and it's really beautiful and fun, especially Miami Beach.

Now my question is how many people did it take to hoist her useless ass off the floor?

I did not look at the Pauline pictures and I don't want to google (LOL), you probably already know this but Zsalynn was doing some kind of fattie porn. When I first watched her episode I felt so bad for Zsalynn because her husband was a jerk and he didn't want her losing weight. I am not totally excusing her husband for being a jack ass, but now it's more understandable because he met her when she was doing that kind of thing and they probably made money off it so her losing weight was really a big change in dynamic for them.

What the hell????  Feeder porn? Is that people turned on by fat people?

I need to know more.

Pauline does have some sex quotes, I posted one in best quotes, but I didn't know she was a porn girl.

should I google feeder porn? Scared to see What pops up.

ok so just fat fetishist? Or actual porn?

Zsalyn was apparently the goddess of this world, she seemed so sad and conservative in her episode.

Strangely I was coming to post this link here before I read these posts.

Since we all seem fascinated by the 600 pounders, I found this very active forum for biggies and it appears to have an edge towards the above discussed.

Now I am going to scour it for any gossip on the show.

ya, I got lots to do but this is so much more fun

oops, forgot the link and FTR, I am on just one post in the forum and it's a feeder forum. Love my new word feeder.

I wanted to address this specific idea. Please keep in mind I am only speaking from my own experiences with being over 400 pounds. The scale becomes your master. There becomes a vicious cycle - If the scale doesn't move in the direction I want, I feel like a failure. While I know logically that weight loss is not linear, and your weight can fluctuate between 2% to 3% based on a myriad of reasons including how much water I drink. But I am not logical when I am consumed with my eating disorder. I put unreasonable weight loss pressures on myself. When I fail, I don't know how to cope with it except for engaging in destructive behaviors. I may binge (with or without purging) or starve myself.  To mitigate this, I only weigh once a month when I see either my dietician or my psychiatrist. I don't know what I weigh, and I tend to track my progress on other metrics  - how my clothes fit and my fitness goals.

This disease is very much a spectrum, and I have found that I can fairly easily bounce between starving, purging, and binging. I actually lost 100 pounds eating nothing but 2 cups of vegetables, 2 egg whites, and 1/2 a chicken breast a day. (I was doing KimKins if anyone remembers that shit show.) My hair fell out, and I passed out twice at the gym.

In fact, my biggest issue right now is the same thing. I set alarms on my phone to remind me to eat throughout the day. I know if I don't, I risk binging in the evening because I am so hungry.

I think often of Christina, and how she essentially went the other way with her food, developing anorexia. Post Bariatric Bulimia is actually a big problem.

I use clothes, too. I remember having scales taken out of the house when I was 13 years old (my first round with anorexia). Numbers are so triggering for me that doctors weigh me facing away from scales to this day. When I was in academy, they had a fitness award which included body fat measurement (lower the better). I starved myself down to 9% body fat and was subsequently counseled for it. I responded with, "Well, don't make it part of the requirement then" and continued to drop. I got runner-up--but also got pneumonia and many other issues from it. If I see a number, I want it to be 0.

I can see how people post-WLS could get caught up in this and the need to feel in control (and also dealing with the previous addiction to food). That seems like it would be even worse than dealing solely with anorexia. I worry for those people.

Good for you! It was very ignorant of them to make body fat percentage a competition. I'm sorry you experienced that. I wish you the very best with your battle with anorexia.

Oh damn! I mean WTF? Gee thanks TicketToHellPaid since I did actually click on that link and now I need to find a large, extra strength bottle of brain bleach to recover from the delusional weirdness I just read. You are a very, very baaaad woman and I like that!

Since we're discussing feederism, I think the following quote from one of the site's feeder/feedee (their actual description) threads will demonstrate the level of delusion I speak of:

"I am an FA. I love being fat and gaining, myself. I would love to

see a woman gain for me. I would not advise anyone to go higher than my
own level of obesity. I'm 51 years old, weigh 415 at 5'8" tall, and I'm at my
body's limit. I'm diabetic and on oxygen. I manage my conditions properly
and enjoy great health for a person in my condition. I have limitations, but
I'm OK with them. I no longer desire to gain a lot of weight.
By using the infamous BMI formulas, I have determined that a
woman 5'3" tall at 330lbs or a woman 5'6" tall at about 390lbs would be as
obese as me. I don't desire a woman to gain beyond those limits for me
and I'm attracted to women who aren't quite that heavy, as well. I'd be
comfortable with a heavier woman, only if she was comfortable being that
heavy.
I am still mobile, but very much feel the effect of my weight when
I'm on my feet. I now know what supersize fells like from the inside and
can appreciate the really big girls go through. I use bathing and hygeine
aids.
I'm happy where I am and I'd never want a woman to get any
nearer to immobility than I am. Enough is enough.

If you would like to continue the discussion of feederism, BBW pornography or anything else not directly discussed on the show, you can do so in the Small Talk thread.  Ah, Small Talk, the place to go when the topic wanders. The place where your dreams can come true.  Consider it your yellow brick road to non-show talk.

Just a random tidbit I thought I'd share...So I live in Houston, and you know in the earlier seasons when they usually showed people going shopping for new clothes after losing some weight (I'm noticing now that the show usually ends right when they have surgery, I guess so they can do the follow up shows). I knew the area where the store they usually showed them at was, and I always found it odd that they went to this specific store anytime they were shown shopping because it's not really close to the area where dr nows office is located, there has only been one participant who I have recognized as living in this area (Amber, it's where I grew up so I recognized it). Yesterday I was driving by, and I realized it's specifically a plus sized resale shop, I'm. It sure if they have some sort of deal where dr nows office refers people or if people find it based on the fact that it's a specific resale shop for plus sized, I've never really heard of that, but I thought it was a tiny bit interesting.

IMHO the 'dainty' eating is Penny & Pauline's way of trying convince the world (& themselves) that they really don't eat that much.

I had a friend who was extremely obese & she ate this way, dainty tiny bites with the pinky out. I could never understand how she could possibly be so heavy when she ate the least out of all in our group. That was until we went on an overnight trip & I found her garbage stash; piles & piles of empty wrappers, bags & cartons. She was binge eating in private but eating dainty in public thinking she was fooling everyone. Shame was, she was only kidding herself.

Sound like anyone else we know? lol

Its interesting that people agree with you on this. I saw her as the exact opposite. How can you be eating healthy with that meatloaf and mashed potatos she was eating. How about his won, " I don't know if deep frying is the healthiest way to go I'm not a doctor, but I figure its healthier then eating out" . Is that a sick joke? OMG, I thought she looked like a big fat pig eating deep fried wontons, that's not on anyones diet, its the worst thing you can eat are you kidding?

How about his diet hes got them on? he lets them have yogurt but no milks except one yogurt isn't that correct? I don't believe that's healthy,I have to have 3 milks a day. What about bread? He says no bread and bread is bread, Over the past year I started out at 347 am down to 392 have lost 57 pounds over a year. I've kept it off been on it long term. I eat 1 or 2 breads a day> I eat similar to the Body For Life diet, 5 small protein, 2 fruits, vegetables and 3 milks and 2 breads a day but it has to be  wheat or made from corn.

Heres another question about his diet. Ive heard hima nd other people talking about that diet, he says 3 small meals a day 400 calories mostly protine little vegetables and they get one yogurt, and he says the meat should be low fat or white meat chicken or fish mainly.

Heres a fun fact for you , white chicken and fish has around between 100 and 150 calories, if they ate the way they always say they do, theyd be eating about 4 to 500 calories a day even with greek low fat yogurt which is 90 calories. So they are either eating some milk and cheese or adding beans or maybe eating 2 servings of protein t once, that might make sense.

But no they are not having 3 individual tiny servings of protein a day with some vegiies, theyd starve themselves if they were.

\

These people are extremely overweight. They need a drastic change. No soda, hardly any carbs, no sugar, high protein.

Also, after their surgery, their stomachs are tiny tiny. They can only consume 4 ounces of food or so. So they have to eat protein dense, nutritious foods or they'll fall ill.  The diet also prepares them for life after surgery. It's not a temp diet. It's for life. They'll never be able to eat "normal" again.

I think people forget this part, or at least do not realize how small 4 ounces is. You can't put a large green salad in there anymore.

That sounds so grim. The "eat normal" part. Imagining the problem that got them there is still there but the ability to indulge even a little bit is not. I think I would prefer working on the issues than suffer like that.

  • Love 6

They don't know what "eating normal" is. If they did, they wouldn't have been on My 600-lb Life in the first place.

I've known a couple of people that had gastric sleeve surgery (VGS) and they lost a lot of weight afterwards, but then gained a lot back and are now almost as large as they were before their surgery. That's why the psychological counseling is so important in this show. That's half the battle with a lot of these folks.

I was wondering about what is involved in post-surgery dieting, given this discussion about what these patients are allowed to eat, and went to the Texas Laproscopic Consultants website--interesting that their organization's abbreviation is TLC--and downloaded their pdf, Laproscopic Gastric Sleeve Post-Surgery Guidelines. I wonder if Dr. Now is affiliated with this group. The name of the diet as it appears on the following page is just called Bypass Diet:

https://www.tlcsurgery.com/education/pre-post-operative-diet/

It's only seven pages long and very informative, especially about the various stages of what/how patients are to eat post-surgery. There are four stages, with number four being how one is supposed to eat for the rest of their lives:

STAGE 4: SOFT SOLIDS PROGRESSING TO REGULAR DIET
• GOAL: 3 meals and 2-3 small snacks daily (48-64 oz. fluids; 60-80 grams of protein daily)
• Foods should be chewed to applesauce consistency.
• Protein (Meat/Meat Substitute): 2-3 oz./meal; 1-2 oz./snack
• Starches: 2-3 serving daily (1/4 cup, 2-3 crackers, ½ slice bread = 1 serving)
• Fruits: 2-3 servings daily ( ¼ cup, ½ piece = 1 serving)
• Continue to limit fats. Try fat free or low fat products.
• EAT SLOW AND CHEW WELL
• Avoid liquids with meals.
• Avoid liquid calories (juices, sugary drinks, alcohol, etc.)
• No grazing (over-snacking)
• Eat protein first at all meals.
• Introduce fresh fruits/vegetables and salads slowly (start with canned fruits and well cooked vegetables).

We recommend that you introduce new foods one at a time while beginning Stages 3 and 4 of the diet to ensure that you are able to tolerate that food item. If you develop food intolerance, discontinue that food for a week or two and then reintroduce it again. Keep in mind that for some patients certain food intolerances may be permanent.

REMEMBER: It is still possible to over stretch your pouch, so watch your portion sizes. Also continue to limit fats, sweets, and sugar intake to maximize your weight loss and maintenance.

End of Stage Four Instructions

I'm not knocking whatever anyone chooses to do to lose weight and get healthy, especially those who may have hundreds of pounds to lose and are battling a serious food addiction, but geez this diet sounds miserable to me. But hey no where near as miserable as living with morbid obesity of course. Again, I totally respect and support anyone who has determined that this is the best path to weight loss and improved health for themselves.

Thanks Complexity for this link; really gives me a better idea of what their day to day lives look like when it comes to eating to maintain their weight.

I wonder how challenging it is for them to plan, prep, and cook all their meals? Almost all of them seemed to rely heavily on junky processed foods and fast foods. Personally, I love to cook, and even enjoy grocery shopping and meal planning. But I'll bet this is a whole new world for the vast majority of them, except for that gourmet chef Penny and her pee pad meatloaf and deep fried wontons!

I would expect it's very challenging. I doubt they know much about food groups and nutrition, and I feel certain they aren't used to thinking before eating. This requires learning about food, figuring out a meal plan, shopping for the foods in that plan, and then fixing the foods on a schedule (not just the instant they want something). It is an entirely new relationship with food in every way.

I can appreciate how it's hard for some of them to get the hang of it. Switching from their old style of eating to following the guidelines is probably more of a process than an instantaneous change.

Someone posted within one of the M600PL topics something like "Where are the foodies?" among these folks. Since I like to consider myself a foodie, I chimed in that I couldn't imagine craving and eating the same fast food shit every single day. I believe I also said that I have cravings too, and have many dishes and foods I love, but just can't imagine constantly and desperately craving something that I just had the previous day over and over again. If I do crave a certain dish, I try to make or buy a decent version of that dish.

I wonder if it's possible, within the confines of the post-surgical weight loss and maintenance diets, to make dishes that actually taste good? Even as I try to lose weight, the way things taste will always be important to me. I think one of the many reasons all kinds of diets fail is, well to be blunt, a lot if the meals can be boring and repetitive as Hell and often tastes like crap. I try to be a creative cook and believe it's possible to cook food that's good for you and  tastes good. Makes me sad that these types of diets seem to remove any kind of pleasure one gets from eating a satisfying meal.

I wonder if this is how the diet is given to the patients, because the presentation sucks.
It really needs redoing by those people who can prepare things for a certain grade level.  Too much text.
You'd have to highlight parts of it.
It should be mainly lists and pictures, and are they given food scales?  If not, translate amounts to teaspoons and cups.
I can better appreciate the ones who seemed unsure of what they could eat, if this is how it's presented to them.

I honestly think there's something wrong with me because for umpteenth this afternoon watched Penny AND Chuck.  Can't stand either of them but at least Chuck lost a tremendous amount of weight.  But I know what happened with him.  And with Penny.  She's the most worthless waste of air.  Oh wait ... she needs her oxygen because her fingers and toes turn blue.  Let her choke on her wontons; it would be fitting end to her miserable leeching and destructive life.

I forgot about her sister saying she'll never change.  Edgar will never change from her enabler and Liam is the collateral damage.

I've got Penny on my DVR, but think I'll just erase it.  I don't think I set it to record, but sometimes the series record picks up things for no reason I can see.
Is it Pauline or Paula who's almost as bad as Penny?

There are several subjects from this show which I absolutely cannot bring myself to re-watch: Marla, Cynthia, Pauline and, the worst of the worst, Penny. I saw a repeat of her original episode about to start earlier today and I couldn't change the channel fast enough. There is just something so loathesome and vile about her that enrages me, especially the possible damage we can all see her causing in sweet Liam's life as well as her fake ass need for an oxygen machine. Just one of her props to make sure those disability checks keep rolling in, IMHO.

Yes auntjess it was Pauline who is as bad as Penny and who has managed to destroy the psyche of her son who appears to be merely a shell of a human being.

Before I de-lurked here several months ago, I had seen Penny and Pauline discussed together so often I actually thought they were sisters.

There's a special double-wide place in Hell for people like them who bring suffering upon their children while making a charade of actually trying to lose weight.

Hate her.
