Ratings And Scheduling: I Can't Do This Alone

Outside of Legacies, there are no press releases for any other CW show during that week, though so it's probably more or less a hiatus week for the whole network. Legacies only has to air because otherwise they won't make their fixed Season Finale date and the show taking over its timeslot their Premiere date.

Guess Feb sweeps aren't important anymore, at least for the CW.

Man, how sad is it that I watch 90 % of shows on the CW? For genre, you really can't go to another network. And they'll usually give shows a lot of shelf life. Since they renewed Charmed and Legacies for Season 2 for example, I predict at least 4 Seasons each. Just because that is how the network rolls.

Was 300 the last one they filmed before the break? Have we had any reports of Jensen since then? I know Jared and Misha have been tweeting together this week but nothing from Jensen. Maybe they really did throw the box in the ocean and all this is his dying dreams. Surprise?!

The only sign I've seen of Jensen is a couple of pics of the tape ball with blue. and him being spotted with a fan in Vancouver on weekends.

The spoiler tumblr has had a March 7th airdate for episode 14 for a while. So I guess this month-long break after 13 was planned.

Still think it's a CW thing. They are gonna air new eps of their shows through March when other network shows usually take breaks. Ratings gimmick? Hope they're being sampled due to lack of competition?

I just read something about Amazon Prime currently suspending WB shows. Which would include SPN. No idea, are they in some kind of contract negotiations?

To vastly, vastly oversimplify the situation: Amazon is demanding that they be treated as a box retailer like Walmart. In that situation, WB sets a base price per unit for the distributor, who then sets a base price per unit for Walmart, who pays and then determines how much to charge customers. With DVDs/Blu-rays this has historically often been somewhat less than what the retailer actually paid the distributor for the unit, largely because DVDs/Blu-rays were a good way to get foot traffic in to look at nice profitable TVs and things.

Amazon does this with DVDs/Blu-Rays without a problem, usually matching or undercutting the Walmart price so that you will look at/for other Amazon things. Since they've been matching the loss leader prices, it's possible that Amazon has actually been losing money on some of those unit sales, but WB is still getting paid so they are happy.

Streaming is more complex. Amazon wants to set retail prices here as well, BUT, with streaming, Amazon usually doesn't pay a set price per unit; instead, they pay a percentage (basically, a royalty) per unit. So lower prices for Amazon streaming mean less revenue for WB, so, WB wants control of the sales prices. Amazon is fighting back by pulling buy buttons - not for the first time. It's also not limited to WB/Time-Warner.

Add in that Amazon isn't just a retailer/distributor, but also its own content provider and thus a rival to WB/Time-Warner and other studios (and Netflix!), and you have what I think the legal profession calls a mess.  The U.S. Justice Department has already weighed in a few times on related ebook issues, as have various European Union cour

Well this sucks. Pretv will be down all day tomorrow and it's SPNs 300th episode

Quote

Starting Thursday morning (ET). The forums will be going offline for a large update.

There’s a lot of moving parts to this update including revised themes, the new user custom homepage, and new default forum structure so we are planning to be down most of the day to do all this but we will communicate estimated finish times on Thursday as it happens. It’s possible (though we hope not necessary) that this update will take us into Friday.

Nice to have the forum back. I saw the up tick yesterday, well deserved. Only problem is SPN going on a 3-4 week break, new episodes won't air until March 7th (which also happens to be the opening of Captain Marvel).

Historically, SPN stays strong over hiatus and, doesn't have a huge drop in the spring but, we shall see.  The rest of the CW lineup is taking the last 2 weeks of February off, very odd for a network to skip Feb Sweeps. Guess that proves CW doesn't give a crap about Neilson Ratings 😁

Jared also was in the top ten in weekly TV talent.  He was the only one in the top ten from a scripted tv show.  Pretty impressive

That’s impressive, especially with the Grammy’s.  He’s got real SM juice.

Well the ratings were pretty dismal but still better than any other CW show except the Flash.  We lost viewers in the second half so we may adjust down.  Looks like a .4 for now.

Look at those BBT numbers. The kill everything but Grey's in the sales 18-34, but still have double the eyeballs, and in every other demo, nothing else is close except... the BBT spinoff. Supernatural is fortunate to be ending before the hour long BBT series finale.

Steady ratings after a 3 week break

All in all not bad.  We should end up in the #2 spot again this week.  What always gets my attention is the demo in the 25-54 age group.  That is always the highest rating.  And the 18-34 group is always the lowest.  Stop trying to pedal this show to the tweens.  It just isn't that kind of show.

Big Bang was on repeat, I think you see that in the 25-54 demo numbers for both SPN and Legacies.

That's interesting.  I wouldn't think that those audiences would cross over.
