S03.E01: Outlook Good

I'm worried that Carrie isn't feeding her cat enough. That cat should be bigger. Also, I immediately side-eye people who name their pets something like "Shoe".  As soon as that cat pees on some Minolos, and she will, you know she would just set it outside. Carrie is not responsible enough to raise a cat. Also in the words of Valerie Cherish and regarding the Aiden/Carrie phone sex scene , " I don't need to see that!"

I was thinking Strawberry Shortcake, but golf hat works too.

About all I can say is that I didn't hate it? It feels like they got back in their friend groove a bit and I do like how Carrie's new house has elements that resemble her apartment--the walkthrough closet, the desk underneath the window, and there was another element that I'm brainfarting on.

I thought the Rosie O'Donnell character was well played, she did a good job of hopeful enthusiasm without being crazy stalker.

Kristen Davis looks so much better without the filler! She's stunning and didn't need it and I'm so glad for her that she recognized her natural beauty is there and didn't need the additives. ❤️

Any show that gives me cute kitten scenes and Christopher Jackson singing will never be all bad.

Apparently, his Morehouse a capella group was a Hamilton/Broadway Easter egg and his George Washington costume from last season was his Hamilton costume (sans pants).

I guess "I didn't hate it" is the standard for this show now. . .

In show world, Carrie's only just moved out of her apartment and into the house and Shoe was a kitten in the last supper at the apartment. Shoe was a little bigger in this episode but in show time, she's still a kitten--it's only been a few weeks at most, so it works.

I was thinking giant shower cap or ice bag. I can’t believe anyone would design such a thing or expect someone to wear it. She was also wearing a strange see-through outfit. I liked Carrie’s other outfits.

I always enjoy Mario.

I was also not amused by the house technology fail and whatever it was supposed to symbolize about Carrie’s new life. And why would someone live in such a large space where you have to run down two flights to get to the kitchen to shut off the alarm?  Wouldn't such a house have switches on each floor?

I was bored by the documentary and the Michelle Obama drama. Also bored by Sarita Choudhury’s story. These two characters are shoehorned in and don’t deserve full status.

Aidan/Carrie phone sex. Ugh.

The hat is stupid. LTW's necklace is stupid.

I didn't hate it, but it wasn't...good. Whatever is going on with Aidan and Carrie is also stupid. I love JC and I've always liked Aidan but I don't get wtf they're doing with him here. The phone sex was cringe, but phone sex IS cringe unless you're doing it (and even then, if you stop to think about it for a second.) The line about almost shitting his pants? I'd never be in the mood for any kind of sex with him again, thanks, even if I do still find JC attractive. He and SJP did their best with it, but I don't ever want to see or hear any of that again.

Almost 60-something Miranda trolling for sex at a bar til closing time is just kind of sad. I'd think that of anyone of that age (and I'm that age), gender or orientation. I don't know what motivated her to go back to the hotel with Rosie O'Donnell...just sex, even though she clearly wasn't attracted to her? That said, Rosie was good, and genuinely brought pathos and gravitas to the role: a virgin lesbian nun. Yikes. Carrie and Miranda making fun of her touristy endeavors was annoying but on brand.

I thought they'd forgotten Miranda's brief history with alcoholism but they didn't, so good for that.

Charlotte's storyline was..also stupid. Everyone is those scenes was playing for the rafters, what is with the exaggerated overacting and mugging?

I don't care about LTW or Seema, I'm sorry. Christopher Jackson singing is nice.

Carrie's apartment is gorgeous and I highly admire how nimbly SJP sails down those stairs, but the alarm thing is also kind of stupid. Love Shoe.

I also really don't get what's up with most of SJP's styling. She's an attractive woman with a killer bod, but she's giving Bunny McDougal these days, not Carrie Bradshaw.

Back to Aidan/JC...somehow, from being one of the most beautiful men alive when he was young (imo, anyway) he's aged into resembling Craig T Nelson somehow. I mean, there are worse people to resemble I guess, but I didn't see that coming. Though on the red carpet for the AJLT events, he's a little grayer and grew a beard and yowza, he looked fine, though disturbingly like wife Bo Derek's Svengali former husband John Derek. LIke a LOT.

I completely agree regarding the phone sex.  This is not the first time they have done this - in the original series she has "accidental" phone sex with Big when he was in Napa.  That was much better because they faded out before all the specifics took place.   What they did there was gross and then they went and did it twice.

Boy that picture of Derek's Svengali is a bit of a jump scare lol

Is that an apartment?  I was thinking she owned the entire house.  I am in agreement about the alarm.  It would at least have an app she could use to monitor the house and deactivate the alarm as necessary.  Though I do recall that Carrie is somewhat tech-phobic.

I think I was considering it like a townhouse or something, so yeah, the whole building.

I don't believe what i went through to watch that. MAX is free with our cable package, but you have to be signed in on the account of the person whose name is on the bill.... which in my case is my 91 year old mum. She doesn't see well and  hasn't been able to remember her user name or password for quite some time. Every season I frantically search for a link to watch AJLT free  and risk  picking up computer viruses, malware and such. I did it for seasons 1+2 and for some other shows that streamed on (I think) Paramount like    Fatal Attraction.

Finally this morning at 5 am I gathered my courage and helped her sort it out on her computer by being her eyes. We'd been omitting a period in the middle of her username that isn't there on most of her accounts.

After I watched I said to myself,  for that? 🤔

I totally understand your frustration.  We have the same kind of MAX access.  We have a similar access with Watch TCM, which is even more annoying, requiring logging in again through the cable subscription every so often if you haven't used it lately.  Guard those user names!

I guess I can say that it wasn't...bad? There were some fun moments, nothing that really angered me in particular, it wasn't anything all that fun but not too bad. Shoe sure is a cute kitty and the only really funny part of Carrie and Aiden having cringe phone sex was Shoe sitting there starring at Carrie the whole time. That's something at least.

What is even going on with Carrie and Aiden, I do not get what their deal is now. I am not even sure what Aiden's son's issues are, which are so serious that Aiden has to have a long distance situationship with Carrie, its all so very odd.

All of these hat suggestions are excellent, I personally see a picnic blanket on Carrie's head.

Rock continues to be painfully annoying, in just three lines I am reminded of how poorly they're written. They reek of much older writers trying to understand how "the kids" sound these days.

Am I a petty asshole for enjoying Miranda pathetically skulking around bars accidently hitting on Brady's old babysitter after she threw her life away following her midlife crisis? I didn't expect to see Rosie O'Donnell here, and as a nun, but I liked her a lot, I thought she was sweet. If someone sang For Good to me in Times Square, I would be pretty into it.

Not a great start to the season, but its miles better than last seasons start, any season without the threat of Che is an improvement.

Carrie’s stupid hat made me think “The Nightmare Gingham Monstrosity that Ate New York”.

And that outfit she was wearing at the beginning, when she went out to mail the postcard, made me think 1950s peignoir.

Since Miranda was trying to think of a kind way to tell Mary that there was no point in taking this any further, why not say it’s because they live so far apart? (I’m also wondering what nun would actually do this since she considers herself still a nun and married to God. Last I checked, the Catholic Church considered adultery a sin.)

Aidan seems way too enmeshed with his son. Kid needs professional help. And while I’m on Aidan, Anthony may have come across a bit abrasive but he was also absolutely right. WTF are they doing and how is it supposed to work out?

More Shoe, please!

ETA: I kept expecting a boy who cried wolf scenario where Carrie goes downstairs to silence the kitchen door alarm and finds someone actually did break in.

Yep! One thing that did actually  tick me off in this tepid episode was Carrie not telling Aiden he had some nerve     asking her to remain chaste and waiting  around for him to sort out his  brats kids... for five years!

I feel like SATC Carrie would've said  I'll be dating and living my life, feel free to call me when you get through all thaT, and we'll see what's what.

My mum has a tendency to change passwords often. I haven't changed  most of mine since 2008!  She thinks one up... usually something to do with her girlhood in London and says confidently "I'll never forget that!"

Seconds later, guess what? Forgotten.

So I bought her a little book and suggested she note  changes she's making  in it and date it,    then log-in.

...but what do I know?

😏

The memory that stuck with me the most was that stupid hat. Carrie has about one more year left to wear ridiculous "fashion" before she just looks like "kooky old lady". In fact, I recall in one scene a young couple was behind her and I swear those extras looked like they were laughing at her outfit.

Sorry to knock on a young person but the girl who plays Rose/Rock is not a good actress. She's also given poor material but her delivery is just bad.

I like Seema and loved the outfit she was wearing while waiting for her FaceTime date. Girl needs to smoke a vape pen. And forget that director. I hope they give her a good storyline this season, not just as a Carrie sidekick although they do work well together.

Miranda could have been kind to Mary but that wouldn't be Miranda, would it? She did show up in Times Square but acting like Mary was a Stage 5 Clinger was a bit much. Miranda was the sad-sack siting in the "lady bar" at closing time, so she needn't feel she's all that. She'd just told her whole pathetic story to Brady's former babysitter in five sentences.

This whole rekindled relationship between C&A is, so far, just stupid, ridiculous, boring. I say bring back Burger.

I haven't seen this episode yet but am looking forward to LMAO at Carrie in her golf hat!

That's really SJP's cat Lotus so I cannot imagine she'd allow the storyline to go there.

Carrie already looks like kooky old lady in things like that hat.

I must be the only one who enjoys seeing what crazy shit Carrie will be wearing?

I think John Corbett is hot as hell but that phone sex scene was so damn cringe. Why does the show have to always throw in one element that makes n e want to turn off the tv?

I don’t care for Rosie so I didn’t care about that entire storyline. Overall though I didn’t hate the episode. Then again any episode that starts with a Yaz song is ok in my book. lol

Aiden has zero game. His cursing and struggling to get his pants unzipped gave me The Ick. No way should Carrie be waiting for a man for 5 years. Especially in her late 50s. Not being ageist, I’m older too, and you Never know what will happen health wise. If she wants to enjoy a sex life or even just dating, now’s the time.  See also that huge house she bought. That walk to the front door took forever.  Her knees are still holding strong, especially for someone who wore tall heels for decades. But in real life, we ladies of that age are looking to downsize into a ranch, or at least, less stairs and definitely something easier to clean.  But that would make for a really boring show lol.

She can afford that gorgeous place, but doesn’t have her alarm system on video? on a laptop? On her phone? Weird.

The hat was goofy and that necklace reminded me of the decorative wicker balls people put in a bowl on their coffee tables….But, I love the wacky fashions. It’s fun to see what they’ll come up with next.

Agree about every scene with Charlotte and crazy dog lady being Way overacted. Were they trying to recreate the scene where Charlotte first gets Elizabeth Taylor? That woman reminded me of Princess Dandywine’s owner, only dialed up to 100.

Miranda’s transformation is still aggravating. She was one of the few unapologetically smart and ambitious women on tv, and they destroyed her. This season, instead of having her get her confidence back, she’s chasing any tail that will have her while acting superior to them.

Much like the Roseanne reboot, I’m able to enjoy this show if I let go of any expectation that the characters will be consistent in behavior to their original run.  Have to take this as a different show with new versions.

As usual with this series, I wanted to like the episode more than I did.

I also finally realized what bugs me the most: the overacting/mugging. The actresses never did that in Sex and the City. I think of Charlotte comically (yet endearingly) wailing "I've been dating since I was 15, I'm exhausted! Where IS he?" and try to reconcile that with the exaggerated mannerisms of her scene in the park with the dog lady.  The writing doesn't help, but the overacting changes the tone of the series entirely - I find myself cringing at how broadly they're all playing their scenes.  Feels almost like we're veering into farce territory at times - except when we get over-sincere yet contextually erroneous lines like "Mom, believe women."  (Isn't your mother a woman too, Rock?")

I think Charlotte in SATC had several gears. She could be ditzy. She could also be a mature grownup. Now she's in overreactive ditz gear all the time and it wears thin.

Notice how Sara Ramirez was completely absent from the "Previously on..." clip package? Someone coming into this season cold would have no idea Che was ever a character on this show. And good riddance.

This episode highlighted Carrie and Miranda's ugly snobbiness with their relentless mockery of Mary's touristy activities. No, ladies: Tourists aren't automatically a bunch of uneducated rubes. Life outside your precious Manhattan bubble really does exist.

Seema should have dumped director dude the minute he promised just one quick set scouting before lunch, then took her to three that burned their entire day. That's called lying, and if anything, she gave him way too long a leash before walking out.

The Yorkenblatts continue to be the most normal part of this show.

Carrie's hat was arguably a crime against the very concept of headwear.

It was such a strange choice.  I thought the dress would have worked nicely on its own, so I'm not sure where the idea for the hat came from.

Finally got to watch this eppy, my thoughts….

I thought it was mean for Carrie/Miranda to be making fun of Mary’s many texts.  If Miranda didn’t want to be bothered with her anymore, just be woman enough and tell her.  I just felt sorry for her, you know how it is when you’ve been deflowered for the first time.

Love Nicole Ari Parker, but I can’t get into Lisa at all.  Seema’s character is way more interesting.

Harry was so cringe during and after Christopher’s singing.  And is Evan Handler sick?  He looks so thin.

Finally, Aiden and Carrie’s phone sex.  While I didn’t mind Carrie’s vocal participation, Aiden was being very ick!  And I so did not need to see him lick his hand to perform the jerk-jerk.

Shoe is adorable.

Same.  They are a gorgeous couple,  and great actors, but their scenes are so tense and stressful. Its always so heavy. It’s like they don’t know what to do with her storyline. I Don’t care about him running for office at all.  And they haven’t melded her into the group well.  When they cut to their scenes, It’s like you’re watching a completely different show.

while not a NYC resident, i live in the greater NY metro area and have made it my business to try to do every classic tourist thing at least once.  I feel good about it. LOL.

So, I am not sure what it says about me, but Carrie's new house pisses me off. One: You are one person, why do you need ALLLLLLLLLLLL that room? Its crazy. Two: I find it to be a gross level of conspicuous consumption with her dead husbands money.  Petty, perhaps, but I feel like she didn't even, like, earn it? I don't know. Maybe all the BS she took from Big was her earning it, but all I can think about is, she's come along way form having to borrow money to buy her teeny apartment because she was irresponsible and spent all her money on shoes... and I don't think she ever really learned anything from that experience.
