Skarzero May 7 Share May 7 (edited) To echo the praise that others have already shared, last week and this week so far have been a real blast to say the least. I don't know about the rest of you, but I feel very vindicated for giving this soap a real chance right now. I'm loving every bit of this. It goes without saying that Leslie is a horrible parent, I wish Eva had slapped her last week or at least tried. Eva is gonna have it rough going forward. But at least Andre is someone she can reliably look to for some grace. While I'm still iffy on the idea of Eva being Nicole's child too, if anyone could pull this off, and have it make total sense, it would be this team of writers. Any other soap would be fumbling it every step of the way. I still feel like Kat & Eva are just ghetto twins, but I'm open to changing my mind more than I was a week ago. Only good writing can get that out of me. I think this whole thing is gonna trigger something in Martin, and he'll be forced to reveal the horrible secret to Smitty. Don't know when though, it's just a guess on my part. Don't know when though, it's just a guess on my part. I think that as well. We've had our Leslie/Eva reveal but that is just the start. We still need to know if Eva really is Ted's and or even Leslie's-- Leslie's DNA testing can't be trusted. Depending on that answer it spurs off a whole lot of other possibilities. What happens with Eva now. And for that matter, Leslie. They can't get rid of her that easily just yet. She is too delicious of a villain and outside of Bill, the only one really. There is still the truth about Leslie's role in Laura's accident and heart attack. But if the show was smart they'd hold on to that for awhile. We see Martin acting out so of course this may spur the next story -- the background of what Martin did and how that might come out. And since we know that Bill was involved in both the Leslie storyline and whatever happened with Martin in the past, it opens up some storytelling possibilities for Bill away from Dani and Hayley. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151881-beyond-the-gates-daily-episode-discussion/page/18/#findComment-8655535

Js Nana May 7 Share May 7 Can anyone command a scene like Trisha Mann-Grant can? Eva is Martin's daughter, but not Nicole's, which means that no matter how much Dana/Leslie wants it to be otherwise, the Dupree's don't have to acknowledge Eva as a member of the family because she's not a Dupree, she's a Richardson - so can we expect Dana/Leslie to be intruding herself into the lives of the Richardson's? 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151881-beyond-the-gates-daily-episode-discussion/page/18/#findComment-8655637
JAYJAY1979 May 7 Share May 7 Monday was a mixed bag for me. Positives: Kat vs Eva..saw both sides..but poor Eva was rejected by both Ted and Leslie in separate occasions. Team Eva! I have a feeling Kat might push Tomas away due to what she found out about her dad...and Tomas/Eva connect. Nicole vs Ted...thank god she had a realistic reaction and she didn't pull a Dani. If they divorce, she will fight tooth and nail to ensure he doesn't take her money nor dignity. Martin/Smitty...I have a feeling his nightmares will be a May sweep focus. I do wish we had more development for Smitty though. Didn't Like: Duprees vs Leslie...it should have been Anita vs Leslie with no family around since they were not needed. Anita singing at the end was so cringe and cheesy. And I think Tamara did better acting as Jessica Griffin than here as Anita. Jessica was an actual character..not a caricature like Anita is so I can't fault the actress. Can't wait till tomorrow when the show is back on! She’s NOT their family. If the Duprees were just a regular family, they could pay Eva dust and keep it moving. But Vernon is a beloved former Senator and Martin is a current congressman and Leslie could go to DC TMZ right now and spin a tale of the Duprees turning their backs on Eva (ala Beyonce's daddy's baby mommas) so right now it would be in the Duprees' best interests to welcome Eva into the fold (even though Eva has never tried to be up in the Dupree fold, she just wanted to be in the Ted fold). Rodney May 9 Share May 9 Catching up now on Paramount+. Damn. Eva spent the night in her party outfit? At least she did the right thing by cleaning out her desk. Too bad that she couldn't wait till Nicole was out of the house. But it was shocking to hear that Nicole doesn't hate Eva. But of course Dani shows up and says that she hates her. But that was a nice sentiment that she wants to stand up for Nicole now after her having done so for her in the past. The teddy bear was cute, though. One thing that I liked about Dani and Nicole's scene was that it highlighted how different the sisters reacted to their husbands' affairs. Dani just reacted and blew up and raged all over, while Nicole is just numb and doesn't know how or what to think, feel, or act. I think Vernon was a bit off. Bill was a dog. Ted had a moment of weakness, but recommitted himself to making his marriage work. I agreed with Anita, though, that Ted cheating was more surprising than Bill based on their personalities. Chelsea worrying about how bad Bill really is, is a palpable fear. I'm wondering how serious Bill's past "fixings" have been, too! Were Anita and Vernon trying to placate her, or were they honest that Bill wouldn't go that far? It was clear from the beginning that Leslie was fantasizing again about Ted at the start of the episode. No way he wants to be with her after what she pulled. But it sounds like she's having remorse if she's having a dream of being called a monster. And she more than proved how much of one she is in her scenes with Eva. She had every right to be mad since Ted really never about her because of Leslie (and because of Bill). But damn! I'm shocked that she packed Eva's things for her already! And then throwing her picture out? Damn! Kat was cute again with Tomas, but I don't blame her for not wanting to get close to Eva. And while Tomas was right that Eva's not to blame for Ted and Leslie's affair, Kat's right that she is to blame for everything leading up to the reveal of said affair. She and Leslie. It was a bit too much that she practically demanded to not be friends with Eva, though. Especially when he's obviously going to come into contact with her again. Ted was right that Bill should've told him that he'd had a child with Leslie. I firmly believe that he would've been there for Eva growing up if he'd known about her. But I agree that it's nice that he made up with Eva and wants to see where things go with her. Anita and Vernon were the right level of comforting and firm with Nicole. They were right that she's not to blame for what happened. Ted, Leslie, and Eva are. This was a nice fallout episode. 4 hours ago, drivethroo said: Hayley continued to be an idiot and pop off her opinion on things she knows nothing about. Lois Sandborne May 9 Share May 9 Eva was righteous in her final showdown with Leslie. But all I could think was no way all Eva's feathers and buckles and beads and wedge heels fit into that one little suitcase. The convo between Bill and Ted (heh) was very interesting. To me it doesn't too much matter whether Bill would've actually harmed baby Eva; the threat was bad enough. But hearing him and Ted go back and forth about the why and how was good groundwork for us learning more about Bill's fixer past and Ted's striver past. I also love them continuing to build up Dani and Nicole's bond, and to make Hayley look like a bird. (That leopard capri two-piece? Chef's kiss.) 8 1 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151881-beyond-the-gates-daily-episode-discussion/page/18/#findComment-8657110
mbluecpa May 9 Share May 9 I know we’re in the hands of a good writing team here but I was still a little worried that there would be a let-down after the reveal. No way - they’ve kept the aftermath episodes on point and the actors continue to bring their A games. The post-reveal focus on the fallout between Eva and Leslie is unexpected and I’m here for it. I noticed a few more snappy lines yesterday too: Vernon’s “both of our sons-in-law turned out to be jackasses,” Haley’s “only you could make extortion sound heroic,” and more. We also got two funny nicknames in Loony Leslie and DEFCON Dana. All around a great episode. 9 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151881-beyond-the-gates-daily-episode-discussion/page/18/#findComment-8657177

Yeah facebook is not the most reliable place of criticism in the soap fandom imo. This isn't an admonishment of the whole barrel naturally, but there are no shortage of bad apples over there, but I've personally written them off entirely. Twitter too. No matter the soap, that sector of viewership seems to be very pro status quo. Even, and at times especially, to the soaps detriment. They're incessantly pro Newman, pro Corinthos, pro mob, pro Forrester, probably pro whatever annoying show eating character that's left on DOOL(I don't watch anymore so Idk) crowd. It's no coincidence to me that almost anytime they're unhappy, the soap in question has a better than usual episode rating by other fans in different internet spaces/mediums. Short lived positivity of course but still.....FBers don't like rocking the boat, so I'm not expecting much, just because beyond the gates is the better written soap. I plan on tuning them out in relation to this show all the same. Unasked for tangent aside lol, I get what they're saying. But it's not being very fair to Martin. Ignoring that the character has established anger/control issues(like...it's quite possible he killed somebody in a rage), he did just discover his father used him to cheat on his mother, produced an outside child(far as they know), and got away with it for 20+ years. I think it would've been unrealistic if he didn't shove Ted tbh. Or at least threaten him in some way. I do agree about Leslie slapping Eva though. Especially if Eva hit her first because Leslie was tearing her down. Leslie is an abusive parent, physical violence is part of the package usually. Plus, a moment like that between them would be very soapy! Which is always good! The fallout from the anniversary party continues to be excellent. I agree that Hayley is the mayor of bird city. I get that she might be unhappy with Ted's hypocrisy towards Bill. But it's not like the former lit into the latter. She complains about not having any friends/allies but then decides to act punitive to Ted, who at least is chummy with Bill for now. She's a damn idiot, and Dani had good timing & good insults to her nosy ass. Kat is gonna have a hell of a time with Tomas in regards to Eva. She's been exposed, but Tomas seems to like Eva enough to be a sucker/savior for her. And with Kat's raw emotions, it's not looking good for the two of them. Which sucks because I like them together. Ted stepping up to help Eva but still not exactly forgiving her was well done. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151881-beyond-the-gates-daily-episode-discussion/page/18/#findComment-8657309
Badsamaritan May 9 Share May 9 I'm surprised everyone is just accepting the DNA test and birth certificate for Eva. Where is the demand for another test since that crazy chick has proven to be a liar? The only thing I can think is, it's being saved for the next part of the story, and that will involve Shanice remembering seeing Leslie in the hospital computers and then telling someone. And then that would go into a story of Eva's real birth as well as tie into Leslie trying to kill Laura. I'm wondering if Mona will start to put some pieces together and talk to Shanice. I would actually really like it if they have Kat and Eva investigating Leslie because they each have pieces of the mystery, and they discover Eva's true origins together. I think something like that would go a long way to developing their relationship. Plus, the actresses are really just great scene partners together, and I want more than just hostility between them. Kat, go on and let Tomas go. I'm pretty sure he's for the streets anyway so don't be giving away the cookies for the first time to his dead eyed ass. 😒 3 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151881-beyond-the-gates-daily-episode-discussion/page/18/#findComment-8657336

This is true, however Eva still let it get to the point of the public showdown. She could've gone to Nicole and Ted's house that morning and told them what was up, she could've had Leslie detained some way but no, she let her get in the venue and into the closet. Eva is young, but she's still an adult and she made adult decisions. So that whole spiel from Tomas, while technically accurate, did not seem to take the many things Eva did to help facilitate the destruction of Kat's family into account. Eva gaslit Kat, making it seem like Kat was crazy for being suspicious of her. It wasn't that long ago that Eva was taking a shot and gleefully saying she won after deleting the video from Kat's phone that showed her up to no good. I do agree that Kat has no right to ask Tomas to stay away from Eva, but after finding out what she did, and if he really cared about Kat, he should at least keep their interactions brief for awhile. Eva still lied, to everyone. Plus she did target Tomas to piss Kat off. He should be wary of Eva himself and what she could be capable of, at least for the time being. 6 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151881-beyond-the-gates-daily-episode-discussion/page/18/#findComment-8657366

Not just that, but as Kat keeps rightly pointing out, Eva was the one who convinced Nicole and Ted to have the party, a party neither of them asked for and Ted even kept trying to get out of. I really like Eva and feel that she is truly as much a victim of Leslie as Nicole is and I want her to emerge triumphant in the end. But, Nicole and Kat are also victims of her. Kat's actions toward Eva sprung from her very justified suspicions that something wasn't right about Eva. She just didn't decide out of the air that she hated Eva. She has an absolute right to be extra salty toward Eva because of what Eva did outside of the whole Leslie business. That said, I believe in true soap fashion, at some point their enemy-ship will turn to friendship. Maybe waaay after the obvious love triangle being set up with Tomas is resolved. Speaking of, yeah. Tomas failed the first test. Regardless of how fair and compassionate he wanted to be, that was NOT the time to defend Eva. And like I said, Kat can be mad at both Ted and Eva. I am loving the relationship we are seeing between Dani and Nicole. Dani always referring to Nicole as 'Sissy', the gift of the teddy bear. I love that they are so solid and supportive of each other. Also Dani's make up looked super gorgeous. By contrast, I agree Eva looked a hot mess. As she should have after spending a night in her fancy dress. And Nicole is still in her make-up less, hiding in the house state. They both looked just right. As did Hayley who looks like the trashy ex-side piece she is. Bless her heart. Ok, so is her real name Dana or Leslie? Ted and Bill keep referring to her as Dana. Was Dana her real name and she changed it to Leslie after going into hiding from Bill? This was a great episode capped off by the incredible scene between Eva and DefCon Dana. Everybody is bringing it! 6 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151881-beyond-the-gates-daily-episode-discussion/page/18/#findComment-8657426

We also got two funny nicknames in Loony Leslie and DEFCON Dana. You left out Dani to Hayley: ‘why don’t you go away and let the adults talk?’ Or something like that. And then Hayley did exactly that lol! 35 minutes ago, DearEvette said: is her real name Dana or Leslie? Ted and Bill keep referring to her as Dana. I don’t know if she changed it legally or not, but if she has ID with Leslie and it isn’t legal, I’d think she could be in a world of legal trouble. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151881-beyond-the-gates-daily-episode-discussion/page/18/#findComment-8657448
Rodney May 9 Share May 9 I kind of agreed with Dani. Bill could've at least told her about what he found out about Ted while they were married. At the same time, would Dani have wanted to be in the position of keeping that secret from Nicole? So Bill was expected to be the fixer from the very beginning? I wonder what abilities had that already had him ready to do that? Liked Vernon and Anita comforting Nicole some more. Why was Martin mad at Smitty? . . . Oh. Because Vernon told him not to tell Martin where Ted is staying? Honestly, given that Martin's his husband, you'd think that he would tell him. Or was he just venting to him? I liked Kat and Smitty's scene. They have a good vibe as siblings-in-law. I see that Eva got some time to shower and change. Tomas was nice and patient with her, and at least he heard out her side of the story. Too bad for him that that badly set Kat off. Naomi has a handful in June. She just won't listen to reason. But she was right in her talk to Dani that she should handle Bill, not her mother. I wonder if Jacob's heard about what happened? He wasn't acting like he did in his scenes with Naomi, Derek, and Ashley. And speaking of Derek and Ashley, do they know about the Leslie/Eva thing yet? They weren't talking a thing about it. . . . Okay. At least Naomi and Ashley talked about it after Jacob and Derek left. At least Ashley was supportive of Naomi. Ted and Andre had good scenes. Ted enduring evil, dirty looks from everybody at the hospital was sad, but not undeserved. And I enjoyed Andre's scenes with Nicole. Although things are going to be difficult with Nicole now that she knows that he knew about the whole thing. (Interestingly, he didn't admit that he encouraged Ted not to tell Nicole.) She forgave him, but how sincere was she about that? Uh-oh. Martin found Ted, anyway. And he really unleashed on him. Not that I blame him. He clearly idolized his dad, only to find out that his father was lying to him for all of those years. Smitty working for Bill, whom his husband hates, is not a good idea. Especially if it's to further get leverage over Martin. Oof. Dani showing up at Ted's room . . . I can't wait to see what happens there. Damn. Leslie showing up at the end with Nicole . . . I'm eager to see Monday's fallout. Decent episode. 3 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151881-beyond-the-gates-daily-episode-discussion/page/18/#findComment-8657460

We hear Naomi say it all the time to Jacob. I like all the time everybody is bad mouthing Ted to Nicole in her house, there is a picture of Ted and Nicole being happy in the background. I am surprised that everybody has come to visit Ted except for Eva, I would thick she would want to talk to him more than anybody. Andre should have packed up some of Ted's things to bring to him, how long can Ted stay in that suit. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151881-beyond-the-gates-daily-episode-discussion/page/18/#findComment-8657482

Kerri May 9 Share May 9 (edited) I guess I'm in the minority but Dani irritated me. She's there for Nicole supposedly but a) makes it all about her and b) then tells Nicole Ted really loves her. Really made no space to just be there with Nicole and support her in the moment with whatever she was feeling. I mean it JUST happened. Give her a day before going in on what a saint Ted is. However next to Haley, she's an angel. That woman just continues to hit new heights of awfulness. Also- I hate baby storylines regardless of character, but show- I really don't need to hear all of Dani and Bill's cute talk about trying to conceive. It's nauseating lol. Tomas basically says/does whatever the person in front of him wants him to. ShadowHunter May 9 Share May 9 They might have to recast Tomas. He is still stiff in certain areas. That being said while I understand where Kat is coming from I felt she had no right to ask him to stay away from Eva. Tomas and Kat are not married they haven't even been dating six months. Smitty going to Bill's house was unexpected. Bill can't stay away from this family lol. While Bill is a jerk he had a valid point the family used and treated him like Mr.Fixer. Dani better get mad at her parents when she finds out they used him for Martin's secret. Hayley is starting to feel like a waste. Honestly you could have taken her out and it would not have made much of a difference today. Do not care about Jacob and Naomi helping this June person. Naomi had great hair today though. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151881-beyond-the-gates-daily-episode-discussion/page/18/#findComment-8657503
Badsamaritan May 9 Share May 9 I feel like June will be related to someone already on canvas, and I think there's been speculation here that that person could be Hayley. Because June ending up in Bill's house while also treating him AND Hayley like shit would go a long way towards their comeuppance. I would not at all mind June turning her sharp ass tongue on Bill and his child bride lol. Could be the thing that causes whatever health issue he's experiencing to come to a head. And yeah, Bill was the fixer. But he's full of shit, he loved it. Because he is a secret collector. And he loves the prominence his association with the Duprees brought him. He knows damn well his practice is so successful because of his connections to them. So I don't wanna hear some sob story about how the Duprees 'used' him because his ass directly benefitted. And to top it off, he still wants to be around them! Between forcing the family to attend that abomination of a wedding to him threatening Martin just last week about what he knows, he ain't quitting the Duprees. He sure the fuck ain't quitting Dani, regardless of what came out his mouth today. He looked like he was ready to cry lol. Plus, I'm positive there are other wealthy enclaves in the DC area, he didn't have to stay in FC. But there his trifling ass and his bird wife are. 🤷🏽♀️ 11 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151881-beyond-the-gates-daily-episode-discussion/page/18/#findComment-8657521
DearEvette May 9 Share May 9 8 minutes ago, Badsamaritan said: He sure the fuck ain't quitting Dani, regardless of what came out his mouth today. Seriously. Because when Ted intimated that he wanted to speak privately with Bill in the most polite way, Bill was all 'This is Hayley's house and you won't ask her to leave.' etc. etc. But when Dani said 'Girl, bye this is grown folks business' Bill did not utter a peep about Hayley being respected in her own house, just stood there with crickets chirping, even though Dani directly and flagrantly disrespected her while Ted had not. 10 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151881-beyond-the-gates-daily-episode-discussion/page/18/#findComment-8657530
YaddaYadda May 9 Share May 9 Tomas actor needs to be recast. His scenes with Eva were not good. I can read a script too. For someone who wants to be rid of the Duprees, Bill sure seems eager to stick close to them. Is there any chance June is Hayley's mother? They're spending way too much time on her not to turn out to be someone important enough. Next week's previews. Now that she's done with Ted and Nicole, Leslie is out to get Eva? She sucks. 9 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151881-beyond-the-gates-daily-episode-discussion/page/18/#findComment-8657652

Giuseppe May 10 Share May 10 Tomas was kind of an idiot to sit and comfort Eva like that when he knew Kat was only going to be gone for a few minutes. Even if Kat had no right to tell him to stay away from Eva, he knew she still expected him to. The decor of Uptown bothers me. That neon green lighting looks fine for a bar/night club, but that kind of atmosphere for lunch and dinner seems weird and unappetizing...just me? 1 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151881-beyond-the-gates-daily-episode-discussion/page/18/#findComment-8657938
tessaray May 10 Author Share May 10 (edited) Leslie kicking Eva out and putting her picture in the trash makes me side with those who suspect she stole an embryo. The way she said "I gave birth to you" instead of something like "you're my flesh and blood" just felt odd. Or maybe it's just me, wanting a better mother for Eva. But Eva did go see Ted at the hotel after Leslie kicked her out. He got her a hotel room and is going to help her get an apartment. I'm sure they'll have another scene next week. When Eva went to the Uptown I wondered if she was going to see about getting a job as a bartender there. It would be a good way for her to keep interacting with people since she can't be at the country club or Nicole's anymore. Either she works there or at the diner. Tomas was a fool to sit down with Eva knowing that Kat was coming back for lunch. She just asked him this morning to keep his distance from Eva, he knows right now Eva is a very sore subject for her. 6 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151881-beyond-the-gates-daily-episode-discussion/page/18/#findComment-8658118

Kerri May 10 Share May 10 (edited) I'm only partway through Friday's ep, but the whole scene with Nicole and her parents I kept thinking - how is she going to feel when she finds out Martin, Anita, and Vernon are all lying about whatever Martin did? In the fight with Dani and Bill- Team Bill lol. Dani is A LOT. And he was dead right about looking to the ringleaders- her parents - for some of what he did. Tomas is a moron and he can go now AFAIC.
