I'd just like to remind people like Maher and Fetterman that the Day of Trump will end.  I hope whatever they think they're gaining from aligning themselves with him is worth it to them because in the long run their shame will not be forgotten.

I will be shocked if Fetterman survives a primary challenge in 2028.  He won because he was thought to be a progressive.  Those votes are going to be long gone and if he does survive if the Reps put up a have sane candidate they will probably win.

With regard to Fetterman:  "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time." (All credit to Maya Angelou.)

The 2022 Democratic Senate primary had Fetterman running against the moderate, vanilla, then-sitting Rep. Conor Lamb, whose Congressional district was in mostly red western PA; and progressive firebrand, (in the best sense of the word) then-State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, an out gay black man. Fetterman won the primary with 58.6% of the vote, despite the fact that this 2013 incident involving Fetterman holding an unarmed black man at gunpoint was well publicized in the run-up to the primary.

Fetterman's past gun incident rattles Black Democrats in Pa. Senate race

The incident took center stage in the race last week when John Fetterman’s two Democratic opponents excoriated him over his actions in 2013 and for his refusal to apologize.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2022-election/fettermans-gun-incident-rattles-black-democrats-pa-senate-race-rcna25649

Pennsylvanians knew who they were voting for. This is just my opinion, but I'd say it was a feature, not a bug. I think Fetterman might very well win again even if he were primaried from the left. I sure hope I'm wrong.

Just as a closer, Conor Lamb is now working for big law 😴, but Malcolm Kenyatta is now a Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee. 👏❤️

BTW, I'm not a Pennsylvanian, just an interested, informed observer.

It's just so disappointing because Maher rambles on and on about cancel culture then kowtows to the Conservatives when it was Conservative Tears in 2002 that got Politically incorrect cancelled.

I haven’t watched him in 100 years but I’m thinking he’s pandering to his audience

In any case I couldn’t care less about him but if Jon Stewart would ever to do the same which is highly doubtful I’d be heartbroken

Are his ratings going down?

Something a little different:

I follow a woman who always shares videos of introducing different cultural foods to her boomer immigrant parents.  Based on her accent, I could tell that she's ABC/CBC (American Born Chinese/Canadian Born Chinese).  Recently, she shared a vid of her parents having Italian food.  I was really surprised that they've never had lasagna before...or many other Italian/North American Italian dishes.  My own parents introduced me to lasagna when I was, maybe, six or seven (before that, it was only spaghetti...I only liked long noodles back then).  Again, like many child-of-immigrant experiences I see on social, it was nothing like my own...or that of my family's circle growing up.  And I was a child in the 80s, teen in the 90s.  My dad thinks it's just me not understanding my privilege.  I think the only cuisines I introduced my parents to are North American Jewish food (beyond deli or bagels and lox...the latter was introduced to me by my mother) and Lebanese/other Middle Eastern.  My parents STILL don't get my obsession with hummus.  I may or may not have introduced tacos to them.  It wasn't something we had a lot of growing up.  But then again, there weren't that many Taco Bells where we lived back in the day.

It’s like Biden being so corrupt and pathetic at the same time, according to republicans, but then when Kamala became the candidate, she was responsible for everything.  Poor Biden was the victim of a coup.

I think their recent lawsuit against him is over comments he made during the 2024 campaign still claiming that they were guilty and had confessed despite having been exonerated by DNA evidence over 20 years ago, although the 1989 newspaper ads might figure into it somehow.

Yeah. It’s over his comments during the debate with Harris. The whole thing started when Harris called him out over newspaper ad so it will probably come up in the lawsuit.

Since so many posters are fans of Jon Stewart, I’d recommend checking out the most recent episode of his podcast. His guest is Pete Buttigieg. I haven’t had a chance to listen to the whole thing but the clips I’ve heard have been really good.

In other news, Bernie Sanders followed up a massive rally in LA with a surprise appearance at Coachella.

This. Trump is putting our national security at significant risk, tanking our long-standing relationships with our allies and cozying up to fascists and fuckng neo-Nazi psychopaths, threatenng and bullying people to get his way, dismantling important organizations and departments that benefit our country and the world at large, and he and his party are stripping away rights from women and minorities at an alarming rate.

This is not a simple matter of policy disagreement and neeting to just "see the other side". This is a matter of protecting our democracy from those who are actively trying to destroy it. Fuck any efforts to try and "make nice" with Trump and co. It's not going to do shit other than embolden them to do whatever further damage they want to people and the country/world at large.

So the Maple Maga sister just posted a long diatribe on FB about Mark Carney (our Liberal candidate for PM) and among many easily refuted lies one big one  stood out "he was Trudeau's finance minister"  but  then without missing a beat "he was NEVER elected". And this, folks is why you can't argue/debate/discuss anything with her and others like her.

Agreed!

I was on Nextdoor this morning reading about tools stolen from a not so distant neighbor's truck,  and in the comments some guy is going off on Hunter Biden!

IMHO. Maher had been conservative for a long time, or at least I noticed that e has been razzing Dems for quite awhile. He seemed tetchy/ irritated when they made salient points. I feel for them having to laugh at his crappy okes.

He's old ( as am I)  but tries to act cool about smoking pot, saying swear words, and making sex jokes. He does not like wearing glasses which are age related. I can't remember if he still dyes his hair from the gray cuz I don't watch very often having grown tired of his smugness and ego. Check his roots.

I am convinced his writers sit in the audience and laugh loudly at his/their jokes even though they aren't funny. Same distinct laughs, guffaws, on material that is banal.

Trump is a sociopath.  He can charm people when he wants or needs to. Ted Bundy was a sociopath too.  Both men did not care about the evil they did.

Meet the Press had Peter Navarro as a guest this morning.  Why does any news organization give this man a platform?  He is a fraud.  He wrote a book about China and he had a source stating dubious "facts" about the trade between us and China.  You know who his source was?  Himself using an alias.  An anagram of his name Ron Vara.

Ron Vara...good pal of that brilliant John Barron who was a PR man for Trump back in the day. Did you ever hear the tape of John Barron calling the NY Times, praising DJT to the skies? It's hilarious. It's just whiney-voiced Donnie deepening his voice. He's always been so immature. I wonder if this is where Navarro got the idea for his clever alter ego, Ron?

Gov. Shapiro and Family Evacuated After Arson at Pennsylvania Residence

If you haven't read the story yet, @PRgal's link is still good; it's just the headline that's been updated to confirm that it was arson. 😡

Oh shit. From The Federal News Network.

The Social Security Administration is cutting staff from its communications office, and will rely on social media posts instead of press releases to update the media and the public.

Regional SSA offices, each representing several states, will no longer have fully staffed public affairs offices, because of the agency’s mass reassignment of employees to field offices.

SSA Midwest-West (MWW) Regional Commissioner Linda Kerr-Davis told employees in a call Thursday that those regional offices will no longer issue press releases or “Dear Colleague” letters to advocate groups.

“Instead, the agency will be using X to communicate to the press and the public — formerly known as Twitter,” Kerr-Davis said. “This will become our communication mechanism.”

Elon Musk, the leader of the Department of Government Efficiency, bought Twitter in October 2022, and rebranded it as X.

“If you’re used to getting press releases and Dear Colleague letters, you might want to subscribe to the official SSA X account, so you can stay up to date with agency news,” Kerr-Davis said. “I know this probably sounds very foreign to you — it did to me as well — and not what we are used to, but we are in different times now.”

Wait, is that the same policy they announced and then (slightly) backed off on, a few days ago? Are they reinstating it now? Or are we getting different info depending on who’s talking?

I agree but I figure they're trying to appeal to more (younger?) voters I think, (lots of folks in those festivals. ..a crowd's a crowd),  BUT IMHO celebrities in the arts are not as influential as they think they are, despite their own righteous stance of, "I'm a voter, too and I can speak out," everyman/woman cry.

They make millions,  have several homes, don't have to worry about $,  etc., so can't they just  donate $ to their candidate? And shut up about it?

They are seen as very elitist which is why lower/middle classvoters are turned off by them.

That said, I'm old but I loved reading entertainment magazines, ever since Tiger Beat, and still People magazine, although I don't know most of the under 40 or under 30 people in there. I watch award shows cuz I love fashion, and frankly like to see how altered their faces and bodies have become. But I don't need them in politics also.

Why would I take advice from them?

Yes it's the same policy. Here is the link from Federal News Network, which carries a time stamp of 7:24 a.m. on April 11th.

Here is a screenshot of the Twitter link from Social Security's X account a couple of days ago. Its time stamp is 7:45 p.m. on April 11th, so 12 hours after Federal News Network reported the story that Wired broke.

Edited to add, the tweet from Social Security's X account saying the story is false is still up on Twitter.

Well, here's a photo of DJT standing next to JD Vance on Inauguration Day. They're both standing up quite straight and JD appears to be slightly taller than DJT. Vance is confirmed to be 6'2". (The article below is funny.) So, Trump is probably 6'0" or 6'1".

With regard to his weight though apparently even shaving off a 'few' pounds still makes him the heaviest Prez in recent history.  Well, he had to be tops at something.

Why isn't he taking Ozempic or another one of those drugs? Is he so delusional that he really believes he isn't obese? Or does he have some health issue that preclude him from taking those meds?

The problem really isn't what he weighs or how tall he is, it's exactly as you say.  It's the delusion.  But the thing is he may be delusional but the medical doctors who signed off on his health report surely are not.  They are lying on his behalf.  About things we can plainly see for ourselves.  What are they lying about in terms of what isn't obvious to the eye?

The damage Jr has done to HHS and continues to do is scary and every republican senator that knew better and voted for this will never suffer the consequences because they have healthcare that is unavailable to the rest of us

David Grier the man Jr has tapped to run a clinical trial looking to tie vaccines with autism has been charged with practicing medicine without a license

And that didn’t stop him he gave autistic children a dangerous drug not approved for use in the use in the US

Back to Maher.  Mr lookeyloo gave up on him a few months back.  I recently did except if there is a guest I am interested in.  Mr. lookeyloo had a thought - was the meeting with tRump a command performance?  Where he was told "I don't want to sue you and your people, so from now on, blah blah blah" and Bill folded?  Because the show isn't just about Bill.  There are a lot of people who work on it.  Plus Bill is in his 60s and maybe even with all his $$ doesn't want to take on one of those marathon legal cases where all dirt is spilled.  Or Bill is just a putz.

On the West Wing President Bartlett didn't disclose he had MS and that caused a lot of political trouble.

But with Trump he would get away with it.  He could be given a month to live and nobody would tell us.  Hell he could die and his people would try to hide it.

From The Boston Globe 4/14/25.

Lawyers for Harvard University said Monday the school will not comply with a new list of demands sent by the Trump administration on Friday, as part of what the government describes as a crackdown on antisemitism and alleged civil rights violations at elite universities.

The new demands expand on a previous list sent to Harvard’s leaders on April 3, which ordered the university to close diversity offices and cooperate with federal immigration authorities, among other directives.

The Friday list went further. It said the university must “reform” the way it admits international students to screen out anyone “hostile” to “American values” or “supportive of terrorism or antisemitism.” It also ordered Harvard to audit a list of specific academic programs alleged to have “egregious records of antisemitism or other bias.”

In a campus-wide message Monday, Harvard president Alan Garber vowed that the university will not yield to the government’s pressure campaign.

“The University will not surrender its independence or relinquish its constitutional rights,” Garber said.
