A former DOJ attorney who worked on pardons(fired after refusing to reinstate Mel Gibson's gun rights) says it's about 1 billion dollars after adding up what these people owed in restitution. After someone is pardoned they no longer have to pay restitution. One pardon was for Trevor Milton convicted of fraud in 2023 of defrauding shareholders of around 680 million. Another was for a cryptocurrency company with a 100 million fine plead guilty to violating anti-money laundering laws, also found guilty were 4 company executives who were pardoned by Trump. The 60 Minutes story last night on Trump going after law firms was really interesting. I wonder how long it will take for Trump to sic the DOJ on Marc Elias as he has with former aides Miles Taylor and Chris Krebs. So the White HOuse is now trying to clean up Trump's 100% tariffs on foreign movies. No one knows how this will actually work. We can't afford social services, research grants, health programs, etc but can afford a military parade???? Last time Trump floated this idea the cost was going to be over $90 million. I think we could find much better ways to use that money. SInce this parade is to "honor" the Army guess when it's time to honor the Navy we'll have submarines and an aircraft carrier floating down Pennsylvania Ave. Trump is going to use his own money to build a ballroom at the White House. We've gotten along for over 200 years without one. Any contractor hired for this project better get their money from Trump upfront. Any bets on how much the debt will increase by the time his four years are up????? I love how he's now claiming that the parade is to honour the army. An article I just read, said that it's going to cost at least $45 million, and that it could impact training for people in the army (the cost taking away from people who are in the army). 13 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/270/#findComment-8654019

But yes, we aren’t saving money, we are spending it on things to nake Trump self important, and he just likes jerking the economy around, because a reaction makes him feel important. It is terrifying. I think he thinks people will make more movies in the US, and I honestly expect some movies are being made, or at least planned, that qualify as propaganda films for trump. He had the most inappropriate-for-a-father-to-have photos of Angelina Jolie up on the walls. I can see how Trump feels a commonality w/ Voight. My ex-s-i-l was born in Mexico and though he speaks English very well, spent most of his life speaking Spanish at home. That affected my grandkids too. Where you could really see it was in testing. There is a lot of implicit information that native English speakers get and others miss. But DEI can't cover everything, especially while everyone is trying to roll the gigantic boulder that is racism/misogyny up a hill that gets steeper every day. It isn't that we don't care about all the umbrella issues and none of them individually are more or less important. That's where people like you who are helping their particular communities are so essential. Most of us get that, though it may not be acknowledged enough. In the case of the US, it's become clear that we must deal with the racist aftermath of slavery or it will eventually poison us all. Growing up in the Sixties, I would never have expected white supremecy to make this kind of hateful resurgence, so I'm not very hopeful at this point. And it can trickle down another generation. Since my parents play a big role in my son’s care, I think their accents have affected his English pronunciation, though I can’t be 100% sure (it could just be a slight delay and he’s just retaining his “toddler” accent). I’ve asked time and time again for my parents to only speak to him in Cantonese so he would ONLY hear English from us. But they continue to speak bilingually, leaning more to English. So yeah, until very recently, my son continued to call apples, “appos” and said he went to “skoo” every day. I finally got him to practice by repeating “Little April likes apples” and “Apple, Google” over and over. It’s his “Rain in Spain.” And yes, he’s “got it”…more or less, anyway. And like Higgins, I have been recording. 2 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/270/#findComment-8654050

The Department of Homeland Security estimates that each detention bed at standard ICE facilities costs about $165 per day. At that rate, holding 87 people for a month in the U.S. would total about $430,000 — a fraction of the $40 million spent at Guantanamo. “It’s a huge waste of taxpayer dollars,” Padilla said of the Guantanamo operation. “It was done without any significant planning or preparation, simply to give Donald Trump the talking point or the soundbite that he wants. ECM1231 May 5 Share May 5 The family of the U.S Capitol rampager shot dead by police while trying to stop the certification of Joe Biden’s election win over Donald Trump has reportedly settled a lawsuit with the Trump administration-appointed Department of Justice. A $30 million civil suit was filed on behalf of Ashli Babbitt‘s estate after U.S. Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrd shot the Trump loyalist while protecting lawmakers from an invading MAGA mob on Jan. 6, 2021. The plaintiff’s attorney and a DOJ lawyer confirmed a settlement in principle was reached Friday but gave no details about the proposed deal. Nothing has been signed yet. Babbitt’s attorneys argued she was unarmed and that Byrd shot her after failing to “de-escalate” the intense confrontation between police and Trump supporters storming the building. The officer, who said he fired as a “last resort” as she was crawling through a broken door, was cleared of charges. While Babbitt’s death was viewed as a direct consequence of her own actions by many, the 36-year-old Air Force veteran became a martyr to MAGA loyalists. In October 2021, Trump recorded a video honoring Babbitt on her birthday and calling for “justice.” “Please know that her memory will live on in our hearts for all time,” he told her family and friends. https://www.bostonherald.com/2025/05/02/capitol-rioter-ashli-babbitts-family-settlement-united-states/ 13 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/270/#findComment-8654070

If I'm wrong and there is a god I hope Trump will have to answer for all that he has done. I'm becoming discouraged he will ever answer for anything while he is alive. 9 1 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/270/#findComment-8654579

Oh absolutely true. He isn't a woman and he isn't black and most importantly he isn't a black woman. The fact that he is a convicted felon, a serial liar and a man who tried to inspire an insurrection paled in comparison. PRgal Tuesday at 02:33 PM Share Tuesday at 02:33 PM He's meeting with PM Mark Carney today. Yesterday, he said he wasn't sure why the meeting was occurring to begin with and I hope that he and his team will treat our PM with respect. He seems to be a little more scared of him than he was of Trudeau. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/270/#findComment-8654616

I think he knows Carney is a lot smarter than he is (not that this is a difficult thing to be) but with regard to Trudeau there was a some deep seated psycho jealousy going on there. His family soap opera aside, I can now agree: theguardian.com/film/2023/jun/06/arnold-schwarzenegger-expresses-regret-over-groping-claims — not just because Schwarzenegger apologized, but because he publicly denounced the behaviour — no excuses about beer, locker-room talk, or anything else. It sort of(?) explains why political cartoonist Garry Trudeau's depictions of Arnold as a (groping) hand have seemingly disappeared from the internet, although here's a book cover of Trudeau's work from 2004 from Amazon: amazon.com/Talk-Hand-Doonesbury-G-Trudeau/dp/0740746715 which is still available. Arnie's dad was abusive, an alcoholic and a servant of the Reich. His son should have got treatment for that horrible childhood but didn't. Too stigmatized. Still is. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/270/#findComment-8654627

Never listens to people who actually know what the right decision is. Is corrupt. And keeps digging a bigger hole for America to fall into then yeah I can understand why people voted for him. Mein Liebchen, yes, it's true, the shops are hardly stocked anymore, coffee is scarce, you've only two pairs of shoes and your pretty dresses are threadbare; it's all a bit sad. Yes,we had to burn your favorite book (one can't be too careful), and of course you're upset that your professor moved to Dachau before the course was finished. We haven't even heard from Fritz on the front lines in more than a year, and the Steins left town last night without even saying goodbye (and they didn't even return the ladle they borrowed, so rude)! The air raid sirens have us all on edge, and Maria's nerves are shot because Jacob won't wear the star (I told her not to marry a Jew!) But you must remember, before the Führer, inflation was terribly high, Jews controlled everything, and you could hardly cross the street without running into a lazy Pole or Gypsy begging for a handout. Thanks to the Führer (who, I admit, is a little rough around the edges), Germany is for Germans again and isn't that all that really matters?
