I always used to hear the first line of that song as "cinnamon gum" instead of "should have been gone." ETA: Every morning a local radio station here does a quick one-question quiz about pop music. KWalkerInc September 27, 2018 Share September 27, 2018 (edited) Earlier, the song "Ready or Not" by Manbreak came on my iPod, and it reminded me that I always used to think it ended with "Are you...are you ready?" After about 20 years, I finally heard it one day clear as a bell, it's actually "Are you motherfucking ready?!" That was a pretty bad mistake, especially when I think I used to play the song when my parents were within earshot. In "Hard to Love Ya" by Queen Latifah, I have no trouble understanding her or Busta Rhymes, but in the chorus (I think sung by Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men), there is a line repeated many times that I can't understand. Every time it sounds like "I love the door!" but that makes very little sense. I tried looking it up, but all of the lyrics sites say that no one has submitted lyrics for that song. I think I have now figured out the lyric after a few hours. I think the chorus goes "It's hard for me to love ya. I can't let go. I love the dough." This makes more sense because in Busta Rhymes' verse, he talks about being torn between the relationship and wanting to make money. Edited September 27, 2018 by KWalkerInc Figured out lyric. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/14150-misheard-lyrics-mondegreens-theres-a-bathroom-on-the-right/page/7/#findComment-4706009

BuyMoreAndSave October 14, 2018 Share October 14, 2018 The first line of "Black Label" by Lamb of God (40 seconds in) sounds like "WHY ARE THEY CALLED POTATO?" Supposedly the actual line is "the human confrontation." Also at the beginning of "March of the Pigs" it sounds like the word "ebola" is being repeated in a whisper. I'm pretty sure that's actually an instrument and not vocals though...although I saw NIN live tonight and some people were shouting something during this part. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/14150-misheard-lyrics-mondegreens-theres-a-bathroom-on-the-right/page/7/#findComment-4749759

WendyCR72 December 16, 2018 Share December 16, 2018 I have a feeling some unknown, unnamed SiriusXM programmers aren't up on the music they air. LOL! I was listening to the Rockin' Xmas station. Well, Bon Jovi had a song from waaaaay back in 1985, from their 7800 Degrees Fahrenheit album called "Silent Night". The only thing is, that was a power ballad about a disintegrating relationship and has zip to do with the well-known Christmas tune of the same name! Which, hey, fine! I even like the song. But the station is supposedly only Christmas songs, so this was a definite goof. Oh, well. :-) 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/14150-misheard-lyrics-mondegreens-theres-a-bathroom-on-the-right/page/7/#findComment-4921103

KWalkerInc January 18, 2019 Share January 18, 2019 I just realized that in "Respect Yourself" by The Staple Singers, the lyric is "Take the sheet off your face, boy; it's a brand new day" and not "Take your seat off your face, boy." I blame Bruce Willis for not enunciating clearly, as I sadly heard his version (in middle school) before the original. Also, I was listening to "Goin' In" by Jennifer Lopez, and it sounded like she said, "Tonight we draw orangutans." Looking over the lyrics, I guess it must have been "Tonight we gon' ring the tank," which makes only slightly more sense to me. 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/14150-misheard-lyrics-mondegreens-theres-a-bathroom-on-the-right/page/7/#findComment-4989277

KWalkerInc March 23, 2019 Share March 23, 2019 A song called "Love's Dance" by Earth, Wind & Fire came up on my iPod, and there is a part where they keep repeating, "I sure do! I sure do!" I may have been affected by the fact that I recently found a sticker from the vet's office that was supposed to go on my cat's carrier where it says, "Short fuse!!" in the notes as a warning to everyone who works there (with good reason, as he doesn't behave so well at his appointments ever since he was fixed). I had always heard those particular lyrics correctly, and assumed Clapton was referring to the reputation cocaine has for getting people to blurt out their unfiltered (and sometimes brutally honest) thoughts. I spent roughly 1985-1990 in the Miami area, and was at way too many parties where I was the only person there not using coke. I believe the song is from a little earlier in the 80s, though. From my own observations, I would say that while it’s not “truth serum,” cocaine does frequently result in people sharing information about themselves very rapidly, that they would otherwise not reveal. It’s less that people are unable to lie, and more that they can’t stop themselves from blurting out truths. 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/14150-misheard-lyrics-mondegreens-theres-a-bathroom-on-the-right/page/7/#findComment-5325369

catlover79 July 29, 2019 Share July 29, 2019 This isn't a pop song, but in one of the liturgies we sang in church, there was a line that went "cast me not away from Thine presence". I thought it was PRESENTS, as in gifts. There's a little kid's mindset right there!! 😂 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/14150-misheard-lyrics-mondegreens-theres-a-bathroom-on-the-right/page/7/#findComment-5483669
KWalkerInc July 29, 2019 Share July 29, 2019 Rak-Su, a group that won The X-Factor a couple of years ago, has an EP of studio versions of songs they did on the show. In one song, "I'm Feeling You," there is a line that apparently goes, "Who's that girl from the shisha spot?" I could never decipher what the guy is saying, and wouldn't have known what "shisha" was anyway, if that's actually what he is saying. I would always hear it as "Who's that girl from the she shed squad?" And I don't think the State Farm commercials with Cheryl and her She Shed had even come out when I first heard the song! 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/14150-misheard-lyrics-mondegreens-theres-a-bathroom-on-the-right/page/7/#findComment-5483990
Shannon L. September 3, 2019 Share September 3, 2019 I can't be the only one who thought it as "Knights in White Satin". Anyone? 3 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/14150-misheard-lyrics-mondegreens-theres-a-bathroom-on-the-right/page/7/#findComment-5574985

Anyone? *raises hand* The first few times I heard it, that was definitely what I thought it was. I figured it might have something to do with Lawrence of Arabia -- hey, I was in grade school, and I didn't know what those clothes were made of! 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/14150-misheard-lyrics-mondegreens-theres-a-bathroom-on-the-right/page/7/#findComment-5577458
