She would be better off just having him do basic steps and entertaining the audience. This was jazz, so it should have really been in his wheelhouse. 9 1 1 Link to comment
Andiethewestie October 18, 2023 Share October 18, 2023 (edited) I had to watch the Morning Show and Welcome to Wrexham my Tuesday night staples, but I did catch Jason and Dani on YouTube. I agree that this wasn't his best, there wasn't the best choreography Dani did a lot of the work and it showed. He did show effort but has posture issues, and some tentativeness on this. Regardless, A whole New World is kind of a knob Foxtrot, I would have much preferred him dancing to You Got A Friend In Me at proper tempo as a perfect Mraz type Foxtrot tune, rather than an awkward slowish Quickstep given to a weak dancer like Harry. The only time you should speed up the tempo is when you have a contestant that can handle it, like Mark Ballas and Paige Van Zant's Disney night So, I'm not a fan of Disney night anymore. Songs are recycled from years past and were interpreted so much better, by pros who love to choreograph to animated themes. 7 minutes ago, boyznkatz said: I'm still scratching my head at Peta for putting lifts into the routines of a 69-year-old man. Lady Calypso October 18, 2023 Share October 18, 2023 What a rough night for pretty much everybody, celebs and judges alike. I'm tired of the recycled Disney songs/films they keep using. Even for Disney100, they need to branch out. Last season's Disney+ night was great because we had a lot of new songs. This season was back to the overused Cinderella/Aladdin/Frozen/Lion King films with the same overused songs. Mauricio and Emma - I think it was an odd song choice, but I think it also kind of worked with the Paso, at least with how Emma choreographed it. I think it was slightly underscored, maybe by just a point. Mauricio has been improving, yet his scores don't reflect that nearly as much as they could be. Mira and Gleb - Definitely her best dance thus far. She looked the most comfortable in this dance and she did a great job with what she was given. I think I'm just Cinderella'd out; there's no reason why she couldn't be another Disney Princess. Hey, maybe throw in some Sleeping Beauty, why don't you? I think the 7s were fair scores for her. Barry and Peta - Unfortunately, not his best dance; he made a lot of mistakes, including the failed lift, and it was mostly a mess. It's a shame, because seeing Barry talk about Bob Fosse was an amazing tidbit I never knew, but then we get this as a Jazz? Lots of it falls onto Barry, but the choreography was not up to par either. There was zero reason for a lift. I would have given it 5s, truly. Jason and Daniella - So, we have found Jason's current weakness. That actually makes me like him more, that he's not good in all styles, as it means Dani can truly step it up with him for next week. He has the musicality and can absolutely improve, and Dani knows he is capable of her pushing him, so I hope she does. I thought this was actually a 7 dance, since we know he can do much better than this. Lele and Brandon - So, it wasn't half bad and Lele did show some improvements from last week's mess. And it was a lovely dance, probably Brandon's best style, but there was still some content missing. It was beautiful in places but too short. I don't know why these dances felt like they were shortened by 20 seconds. I do think, with her delivery of the dance, she could have had one more 8. Alyson and Sasha - Sasha, please stop giving so much fluff and comedy over the content, please, I beg of you. There was little content and mostly just acting moments. Alyson's dancing IS getting better, but this was not the dance to showcase that. 6s were fair. Harry and Rylee - So, he's improving, which is all I can really ask for. He looked more comfortable out there and he performed mostly ok. Yet, he's still unable to really deliver in the way that aligns with his likely placement. Plus, I'm pretty sure Rylee copied parts of Lindsay's Quickstep to the exact same song with Sean Spicer. There was a lot of covering up his moves with different props, as well. Overall, he made enough improvements to warrant a better score than last week, but not enough to tie him with Mira. He still has issues with hold and footwork. I would have given him 6s and one 7, at best. Xochitl and Val - Best dance of the night, easily. So much fun to watch and Xochitl did an amazing job with the faster paced Paso. Val's been stepping it up with her, and it's fascinating to watch her. All 9s is fair. Adrian and Britt - Probably the best cover of a song of the night, and Britt looked gorgeous. Ariana and Pasha - I guess I wasn't as high on this dance as the judges because it was fine, beautifully performed, but I felt like it was missing some content. Scores were pretty fair, in my opinion. I did like the end spin they did. Charity and Artem - A bit too much fluff at the start but beautiful dance. I'm surprised they didn't give her a single 9. From my untrained eye, I thought it was deserving of a nine. Judging was really weird. Especially during Lele's dance, and Carrie Ann interrupted Derek, leading to him unable to give his critiques, and then holding up the wrong paddle. I know Adrian wasn't technically the worst dancer there but he was the worst celeb there so I'm glad others stay over him. Shame he couldn't go earlier but at least he's gone now. Everyone else has something going for them for me, so I'm not overly upset by the remaining cast (I only wish Harry could go next but as long as he doesn't knock out people like Charity and Lele...) This was not a good Disney night, overall. 9 Link to comment
crowceilidh October 18, 2023 Share October 18, 2023 (edited) The comments about Disney night being tired warm my cold hard anti-Disney heart. I thought it was tired the first time I saw it. Having Mickey and Minnie heads next to Alfonso all the time was just stupid -- they do NOT have the charm, such as it is, of the cartoons. However, there is nothing worse than inserted animation in a live show. Also, all the Disney ads! Good god. I know they own the show, but it's all so very done and it often doesn't do many favours to the dancers - that mickey ears sorcerer's hat yikes, the candle outfit double yikes. How about disco night? Emo night? New romantics night? Edited October 19, 2023 by crowceilidh 5 1 Link to comment
Stiggs October 18, 2023 Share October 18, 2023 I might be in the minority, but I loved Ariana's performance. I feel like she's having a ball - maybe that's why I enjoy her performances. Xochitl is just next-level. That dance was frigging amazing. Val might pull a muscle trying to keep up with her, but they might be my favorite pairing. She's so dang likable, and they're just fun to watch. I was smiling ear to ear. Wasn't Jason's best but I still enjoyed it. I'm a huge fan of his music, but him being a great dancer is shocking, lol. I never would have guessed. I'm glad Johnny Bravo lives another week. He seems like such a sweet man, and I love Peta. LOVE Alyson, but I feel like they got the scores they deserved tonight. I have a feeling she'll stick around for a while. Buffy fans are FOREVER and she's sooooo darling she has to be inspiring new fans. Cannot wait to see the pros come back and dance in honor of Len. Maks!!!! I stopped watching when he stopped showing up. Came back this season because I heard Tyra was gone and I didn't need a Disney login. And maybe I'm getting nicer in my old age, but I think both Alfonso and Julianne are doing a fantastic job. She's loud - for sure - but she gets her role and knows how to move a show along. I was never a fan of hers - or her brother - so color me super shocked that I'm not minding either of them this year. BYE Adrian. Don't let the door hit ya. Or well, yes, let the door hit you. Hard. Of all the athletes in all the world... why? 8 Link to comment

Kristi800 October 19, 2023 Share October 19, 2023 Quote Alyson's dance was cute but very amateurish like a grade school dance number. All of her numbers are so poorly produced, music, costume...does she pick these out or picked out for them? Xochitl and Val: Definitely the best of the night that I saw. Can't say my full attention is always paid this late in the show. It's nice having some new styles, but they aren't "ballroom" per se. The contemporary seemed like a lot of writhing on the floor (not a prude, just seemed like that)! Maybe the show is getting a bit played out. 2 Link to comment

peachyleisure October 19, 2023 Share October 19, 2023 Was expecting them to go all out for the Disney 100 opening number and it was the perfect opportunity to incorporate Bruno himself in the dance! I'm fine with Disney Night but feel that some of these songs are overused. 1. Mauricio and Emma - Interesting choice for a paso but I think Emma made it work well with her choreography. It was a little clunky looking to me in the beginning and could've been sharper throughout. But Mauricio has shown he's improving every week and I thought he deserved a few points higher than what the judges gave him. 2. Mira and Gleb - Very elegant and suited her well. This might've been the first time she's looked comfortable dancing since the show started. 3. Barry and Peta - I'm surprised that Carrie Ann said this was his best dance so far. Sadly, I thought this was their weakest dance so far and it was a mess. I think Peta could've given him more to do and she should stop attempting lifts with him. Hope they can redeem themselves next week! 4. Jason and Daniella - Disappointed by this one as well. This is their weakest dance so far and he didn't look as confident compared to previous weeks. The fog obscured their footwork and I felt like Jason barely danced, and it was mostly Daniella dancing around him or centering herself in this dance. 5. Lele and Brandon - Somehow this dance felt shorter than the others. She was lacking a bit of fluidity and needed a little more hip action. The scoring seemed fair for what she did though and it was beautiful in some places. 6. Alyson and Sasha - Yikes. They took a while to get started and it didn't feel like there was a lot of dancing in it! And was that really a jazz? It seemed more like a mix of the Charleston and Quickstep to me. 7. Harry and Rylee - I think this is the most he's moved so far and he didn't look so terrified for once. He's very flat-footed, still walking through the dance, and there was barely any quickstep in this. 8. Xochitl and Val - Undoubtedly the best dance of the night! It was a fast-paced paso and she performed it so well! Really enjoyed Val's choreography here. 9. Adrian and Britt - He's showing some improvement every week. His frame could use a little more work and I still thought he looked stompy at times. But overall, a nice dance. 10. Ariana and Pasha - I wasn't that impressed with the dance, unfortunately. I thought the running and spin lift made up about 1/3 of the dance! And the intro on the floor also took up time. Could've used more content. 11. Charity and Artem - I really liked Charity's little solo in the beginning! This was the second-best dance of the evening for me. She has mostly done content-heavy dances so far, so I thought it was a nice change to see her do a little something else. I also thought the choreography matched the song well. Other thoughts: Would prefer if the show gets rid of jazz and contemporary. Most of the pros don't seem to know what to do with jazz and a lot of the contemporary dances look the same to me. Or at least assign jazz + contemporary towards the end of the season when they've mastered the ballroom/latin dances. Pleasantly surprised by Gleb's choreography this season. I like Brandon, but he really needs to work on Lele's technique. And something about their dancing chemistry seems off to me. But I think this is because he dances like a brother or a teacher instead of a partner. Sasha's choreography has been extremely disappointing this season. It's really uninspired but also comes off as childish and comedic. On another note though, I enjoyed watching Alyson as the candlelight and and Sasha as the clock from Beauty and the Beast. A fun change when almost everyone else was dressed as the main characters from their movie. Favorite pros so far this season are Val and Artem! I think Val is really inspired by his partnership and has done a great job at choreographing fun dances for Xochitl so far. Artem's dances are packed with content and stay true to the assigned dance, and he seems to prioritize technique over performance (being flashy, fancy tricks, gimmicks, and whatnot). Some of the movies didn't suit them that well? But I guess I imagined something different. Maybe Hercules for Harry, the villain from Aladdin for Mauricio, and Jason as Woody. And finally... not sad about the elimination. But if we were to base this solely on dancing abilities, then Harry and Alyson should've left before Adrian. 3 Link to comment

marykat71702 October 19, 2023 Share October 19, 2023 I love Disney!!!! I liked Julianne and Alfonso being part of the opening dance, and Julianne looked great tonight. She's starting to settle in to the hosting thing, and isn't fumbling quite so much Did anyone else notice that some of the dancer's weren't actually answering her questions though? I think Xotchitl has a huge crush on Val What is with Bruno and the sheer shirts this season? My oldest said there should be a drinking game about every time Derek says dude or my man. I'd be paralytic by the third dance. Bye Adrian Not sure I'm a fan of the double-time Paso, but they made it work. I still hope that Barry stays in for at least a couple more weeks, maybe the Jazz can be his redemption dance(if he makes it that far) Alyson finally looks like she's having some fun at least, plus she is improving Couldn't they have covered up Mira's wrap with gloves, or are they going for the pity vote? I just can't really connect with her I really wish they wouldn't push the Harry/Rylee thing so hard. I will say that he did better this week Charity, Arianna, Xochitl, and Jason at this point will probably be the top 4 LeLe's dance seemed super short. My short list as of this moment are LeLe, Mira, Harry, and Mauricio. Harry's probably going to last longer than he should Does anyone else hear LeLe's name sound like Lily Ponds? Electruck October 19, 2023 Share October 19, 2023 I don’t think Barry and Peta’s cartwheel move was ill-conceived, just ill-executed. crowceilidh October 19, 2023 Share October 19, 2023 I think they've had so many very annoying women in what is now the airbox role that I have precious little tolerance for any of it. I've no doubt from the occasional bits of Julianne that I've heard that she is bringing a new perspective to some of it, but this many seasons in, it's all much of a muchness. And I've loathed Julianne's fame whoring for so long that it's hard to pay attention when she's actually doing something she's pretty qualified to do. Bruno was reasonable and entertaining at one time, but they've Mary Murphied him into oblivion by insisting that he stand up and screech alliterative or allusional nonsense at every couple. Andiethewestie October 20, 2023 Share October 20, 2023 (edited) Sometimes the more upbeat dances on a most memorable year are refreshing from the sob story danced so I wouldn't count a Barry out unless he royally screws the pooch. He seems to have a base that loves him regardless of his mess ups. I think Sasha and his partner are the most vulnerable. Even Jason who is a fan fave has got to get QS right since his Foxtrot was lacklustre and he may start sliding backwards. The contemporaries on this show are usually just a cheater way to grab emotion and the hell with technique. But the audience buys emotion.Rarely do contestants leave after their contemporary. There have been few great contemporaries on this show. For me exception was Mark and Charli last season. Not only was that a emotionally charged dance that innovative one arm assisted lift that looked like he was throwing her to the ground could only have been accomplished if the contestants had superior technique in that genre. I also have to marvel at Dani and Shumpert's contemporary it was amazing because Dani could utilize all of his quirky movement, his height and daring to come up with a truly mesmerizing piece. So I have a theory that maybe the best contemporary will ultimately determine the overall winner. Yet I think the best contemporary or jazz is still to be danced, maybe not this week. I think Alyson is in a tough position doing a Viennese Waltz when Xochitl and Ariana will likely do better VWaltzes. And that's why she seems to be in a vulnerable place. boyznkatz October 20, 2023 Share October 20, 2023 Oh yes, I forgot Daniella and Iman's contemporary! It was awesome and probably the only one that hasn't bored me on this show. She is a pure genius about showcasing her partner and not herself. I think Alyson will survive. I don't see Barry lasting another week during a Paso Doble when everyone else is going to do a contemporary or waltz along with their sob story. Maybe Mauricio might go if he can't do lifts. I think Jason will do well with the quickstep, although "On the Road Again" is an odd choice for a song. Overall it sounds like a pretty lame night. Right now, those are my three that I'm expecting to see duke it out for the trophy. I would add Ariana to make up my top 4 in the finals. They all should be there. 3 Link to comment
Ilovepie October 25, 2023 Share October 25, 2023 I am a Disney Fanatic, but why can't they use some different songs? Their catalog is enormous and it's not like they can't get permission to use them since this is just a long Disney commercial on a channel they already own! Very surprised nobody danced to the new song from the new movie Wish...... So is there no Halloween episode this year? Bummer..... 1 1 Link to comment

I think I'm a week behind and just watched the Disney episode this week so to me the Len episode is next week - just realized how behind I got! Have they ever combined Disney and Halloween? A Disney villains week would be awesome! 2 Link to comment
