  1. A little disappointed but not surprised about the results. Honestly, I was hoping to see someone older win the mirrorball. Jason was my pick for the win and I thought he had the strongest performances tonight. Xochitl's very talented but this win just felt very predictable to me. I thought she was getting the winner's edit the past few weeks and the judges didn't seem to have much critiques for her even when her technique wasn't the best.
  2. Was expecting them to go all out for the Disney 100 opening number and it was the perfect opportunity to incorporate Bruno himself in the dance! I'm fine with Disney Night but feel that some of these songs are overused. 1. Mauricio and Emma - Interesting choice for a paso but I think Emma made it work well with her choreography. It was a little clunky looking to me in the beginning and could've been sharper throughout. But Mauricio has shown he's improving every week and I thought he deserved a few points higher than what the judges gave him. 2. Mira and Gleb - Very elegant and suited her well. This might've been the first time she's looked comfortable dancing since the show started. 3. Barry and Peta - I'm surprised that Carrie Ann said this was his best dance so far. Sadly, I thought this was their weakest dance so far and it was a mess. I think Peta could've given him more to do and she should stop attempting lifts with him. Hope they can redeem themselves next week! 4. Jason and Daniella - Disappointed by this one as well. This is their weakest dance so far and he didn't look as confident compared to previous weeks. The fog obscured their footwork and I felt like Jason barely danced, and it was mostly Daniella dancing around him or centering herself in this dance. 5. Lele and Brandon - Somehow this dance felt shorter than the others. She was lacking a bit of fluidity and needed a little more hip action. The scoring seemed fair for what she did though and it was beautiful in some places. 6. Alyson and Sasha - Yikes. They took a while to get started and it didn't feel like there was a lot of dancing in it! And was that really a jazz? It seemed more like a mix of the Charleston and Quickstep to me. 7. Harry and Rylee - I think this is the most he's moved so far and he didn't look so terrified for once. He's very flat-footed, still walking through the dance, and there was barely any quickstep in this. 8. Xochitl and Val - Undoubtedly the best dance of the night! It was a fast-paced paso and she performed it so well! Really enjoyed Val's choreography here. 9. Adrian and Britt - He's showing some improvement every week. His frame could use a little more work and I still thought he looked stompy at times. But overall, a nice dance. 10. Ariana and Pasha - I wasn't that impressed with the dance, unfortunately. I thought the running and spin lift made up about 1/3 of the dance! And the intro on the floor also took up time. Could've used more content. 11. Charity and Artem - I really liked Charity's little solo in the beginning! This was the second-best dance of the evening for me. She has mostly done content-heavy dances so far, so I thought it was a nice change to see her do a little something else. I also thought the choreography matched the song well. Other thoughts: Would prefer if the show gets rid of jazz and contemporary. Most of the pros don't seem to know what to do with jazz and a lot of the contemporary dances look the same to me. Or at least assign jazz + contemporary towards the end of the season when they've mastered the ballroom/latin dances. Pleasantly surprised by Gleb's choreography this season. I like Brandon, but he really needs to work on Lele's technique. And something about their dancing chemistry seems off to me. But I think this is because he dances like a brother or a teacher instead of a partner. Sasha's choreography has been extremely disappointing this season. It's really uninspired but also comes off as childish and comedic. On another note though, I enjoyed watching Alyson as the candlelight and and Sasha as the clock from Beauty and the Beast. A fun change when almost everyone else was dressed as the main characters from their movie. Favorite pros so far this season are Val and Artem! I think Val is really inspired by his partnership and has done a great job at choreographing fun dances for Xochitl so far. Artem's dances are packed with content and stay true to the assigned dance, and he seems to prioritize technique over performance (being flashy, fancy tricks, gimmicks, and whatnot). Some of the movies didn't suit them that well? But I guess I imagined something different. Maybe Hercules for Harry, the villain from Aladdin for Mauricio, and Jason as Woody. And finally... not sad about the elimination. But if we were to base this solely on dancing abilities, then Harry and Alyson should've left before Adrian.
  3. Lele and Brandon - An improvement in choreography from Brandon. I do feel like he could give more but Lele's technique needs to improve at the same time. I do appreciate the energy and confidence that Lele brought tonight and thought it was a strong start to Latin night. Tyson and Jenna - A lot of lifts! But there was some improvement from Tyson. Not the worst thing I've seen from Jenna when she's paired with a non-ringer, so I was glad to see him dance a bit instead of watching her dance around her partner the entire time. Barry and Peta - Honestly one of my favorite partnerships so far! Didn't really like the song that was assigned for their cha cha. But Barry did well with what he was given and I think he's the second strongest male contestant right now. Adrian and Britt - Not buying the angle that production is trying to push. I thought he was a bit stompy or heavy-footed at times. He needs to fix his facial expressions as well. Mira and Gleb - Pleasantly surprised there wasn't that much fluff and at the amount of content Gleb put in the choreography. However, she looked very timid and unsure of herself which kinda took away from the performance. Xochitl and Val - Good choreography from Val! Somehow I felt like the dance was over way too soon. Xochitl looked like she was really enjoying it and this was one of the better performances tonight. (Really like Val's curls!!) Ariana and Pasha - Agreed with the judges' comments and needs to refine her movement. Second half of the dance seemed better to me. In the first half, it looked as if she couldn't finish the movements. Preferred her week one performance. Mauricio and Emma - Glad he survived tonight's elimination. Can see that he was thrown off after slipping up. And thought there were too many lifts in this dance. Alyson and Sasha - I thought tango was a ballroom dance? Big improvement from last week though and she looked a lot more focused, but to the point where it looked expressionless. I think Sasha gave her easy and an appropriate level of choreography to work with. Charity and Ezra - Charity did well considering the last minute switch. Agreed with the judges' comments. Hope we see Ezra as a pro soon! Especially with all the congrats he got tonight for his first performance as a pro. Harry and Rylee - Better than last week (based on whatever dancing I saw from him) and hope he can become more confident in dancing. I do think Harry could've handled more than what he was given. Disappointed that this was another dance that heavily relied on lifts and tricks, or the pro dancing around their celeb. Jamie Lynn and Alan - Not much to say. I don't think that choreography did her any favors though. Jason and Daniella - Great choreography and performance! Definitely deserved the highest score of the night. And probably one of the few male contestants who have performed the rumba well. But what was with the camera work for this dance? The strongest performances for me were Lele/Brandon, Xochitl/Val, and Jason/Daniella. Maybe week 2 is too early for Latin night? I know it's only week 2 but I thought it looked like a lot of celebs were struggling and many looked unsure of themselves, which kinda made many performances appear rather lackluster. I'm not really a fan of salsa on DWTS due to all the lifts and tricks involved. I don't enjoy watching the celeb do nothing but being a prop for their partner and it takes a lot away from the actual dancing.
  4. I really enjoyed the premiere night! I liked the addition of Julianne as a host! A very much welcomed improvement to the show. I don't think there's a huge ringer like in previous seasons and many contestants have the potential to improve throughout the season, which is really refreshing to see. However, I also feel like last night's episode highlighted glaring differences in the pros' ability to teach and choreograph to the celeb's strengths. Best dancers of the night: Ariana, Jason, and Charity. Was really surprised by how well Jason was able to coordinate his upper & lower body! His cha cha was really fun to watch and a strong week one performance. Ariana really knew how to work the camera and had a lot of attack in her tango. I thought Charity's dance was clean and precise, I could see why she received the highest score of the night. Weakest dancers of the night: Alyson and Harry. Tyson wasn't that great either but those two looked very lost and confused during their performances. Alyson doesn't seem to be very musical and it also looked like she forgot her steps at some point and Sasha was trying to cover up her mistakes. Harry was basically stepping and appeared to be extremely nervous and suffering from a case of stage fright. Pleasant surprises: Barry, Mira. Hope to see both stick around for a while! I don't think Matt and Mauricio deserved to be the bottom two. They both did more than some of the others last night! Mauricio had it rough being the only one who did the jive during week one. Sadly, I think Mauricio will be an early out as I'm not confident he has much of a fan base.
  5. Liked the addition of Alfonso Ribeiro as a co-host to kind of balance out Tyra's erratic live hosting style. But how were they running low on time without commercials? About tonight's performances though: Jordin & Brandon - Going first is tough, but Jordin killed it! Great opening dance for tonight's show. Probably could've scored higher if she performed in the middle or second half. Sam & Cheryl - It was a nice dance. Decent start but he has a lot to improve on. Heidi & Artem - Heidi's dancing was fine but she seemed a little nervous to me. I think she has the potential to do well on the show or at least get to the mid point. Daniel & Britt - Love their team chemistry and it was interesting to hear why he chose that song! I'm excited to watch their journey. Jessie & Alan - I thought JJD's performance seemed too stompy and hoppy? It was an odd song choice for a cha cha. And didn't like her complaining about juggling between her duties as a mom and dance practice. Teresa & Pasha - Disagreed with the judges' scores and thought she deserved much lower. Teresa basically looked like she was walking through it. Poor Pasha. Wayne & Witney - It was a very fun performance to watch but could've contained more cha cha content. Cheryl & Louis - I'm glad I was wrong about her! She looked like she was having a lot of fun and I thought she was one of the better elder contestants that has appeared on this show. Vinny & Koko - Vinny's movements looked small and like he was lacking energy. The judges were very harsh on them and while it wasn't a great performance, I didn't think they were the worst of the night. Shangela & Gleb - I think Shangela will be one of the fun ones to watch this season! Trevor & Emma - This was a pleasant surprise! I really thought it was going to be a train wreck after he talked about his fear of dancing. Slightly underscored, in my opinion. Gabby & Val - She did well and I enjoyed Val's choreography here. I liked Gabby on The Bachelor/Bachelorette but not sure if her personality will resonate well with DWTS viewers. Joseph & Daniella - Agreed with the judges' critiques. I'm sure the jive isn't an easy dance and Daniella did really well with him! Jason & Peta - I thought Jason was okay and had a lot of room to improve. Agreed with the judges' scores but how did he score lower than Teresa?? Selma & Sasha - It was so beautiful and amazing! This is another partnership I'm excited to watch throughout the season. Charli & Mark - Not much to say here. It was exactly what I expected, but I was more interested in watching Mark the whole time. I was honestly disappointed that the judges all unanimously chose to save . Overall, it was a good season premiere and was happy to see the full intro packages, actual judges' comments, a proper farewell to the eliminated pair, and the show mentioning the pros' last names,
