ahisma July 4 Share July 4 I love the miming, and the “reality” he gives to his imaginary props. To me it gives more heft to his jokes and demonstrates stage professionalism. 9 1 Link to comment
gimmyqueue July 11 Share July 11 I don't want to like argue the point with ya, bud. But I just think it's a bad habit, I tell ya. Ever watch him on Colbert Report? He did it there, and it was hilarious, but now he does it constantly, since when, 2017 or whenever, and not necessarily to punctuate a joke line, he just does it. I'm glad the band doesn't give it much cred with sound FX either. He over uses it. I tell ya another thing about Stephen i don't like, that he started on The Report. It's an encore to start his show. He comes out, welcomes the audience who are applauding constantly, then he says, "i'm stephen colbert." and again the audience goes nuts. His Report was wildly popular, with a strong fan base, i remember the day he did that: He comes out, welcomes the audience, who are just rabidly applauding, says his name, and they wildly applauded again, and from there on out it has never stopped. NOBODY else does that, nobody. I'm tellin' ya, Kimmel's so much smoother, so much more engaged on a person to person scale with his audience, it's not even funny, except he is. All Stephen's gotta do is STOP saying "I'm Stephen Colbert," before his opening monologue and that shit'll stop. I really don't care much for pandering or milking applause. I mean i get it, and it's okay sometimes, but habitually, nah, cut it the hell out. If you can't be real at least give us the impression that you know what real is and fake being real, even tho it's not real to you. 👊 1 Link to comment
Annber03 July 11 Share July 11 Really liked the interview with Governor Whitmer last night. Her attitude towards the people who tried to plot to kidnap her over mask mandates...she's a far more gracious and understanding person than I think most of us would be. I also got a really good laugh out of Stephen's reaction to the bit in the Project 2025 thing about people who produce and distribute pornography being punished XD. But his end sentiments in that segment yes. Afreaking-men. 7 Link to comment
shapeshifter July 11 Share July 11 Best bit was that the media influencer thought he was doing a Sharknado bit, not NATO. I f'love the Sharknado movies, but, wow, I hope the influencer only thought that for a hot "WTH?—Sure?" minute. Great extrapolation of the possible broader significance of that misunderstanding too.😉 I was glad Stephen had Whitmer on. It made me realize I really knew nothing about the except the crazy plot to kidnap her. She does have a lot of pizzazz. 🤷🏻♀️ And pays attention. "I like your tie." I wonder if the fake mustache on the camera lens was rehearsed? Had to be, right? 4 Link to comment

Yeah, yeah, a bunch of them nazis about 2 or 3 years ago were gonna 'nap and kill her, oh yeah, it was unbelievable. tRump kept egging them on to do it too, like he does everything. In prison a guy like tRump is called "instigator". The moustache was probably Stephen at his improv best. Yanno he is a frustrated actor, or maybe "thespian" would be the word for that idjit. But he says he's never done standup, just worked improv at the Second City, doing improvisational comedy. So the miming and the 'stache are probably improvisational on his part. That'd be my guess at any rate. :) 1 Link to comment

Poor Stephen. I'm sure he felt he didn't have that luxury. Didn't he say recently he might be using shrooms for therapy for such times? Or was that someone else? mthorne July 24 Share July 24 I wonder if the cancellation of Rachel Maddow's appearance on Tuesday's show had anything to do with her recent remarks on the connection between J.R.R. She was unable to be in studio for the President's address tonight, had to call in, sounding quite congested. I don't know if she has Covid or just a bad cold. Coarse humor is not my thing, but it's always been part of Stephen's repertoire, and in this case, I guess somebody has to go for it since my team's motto is "When they go low; we go high" …or something like that. Seems like that could be misinterpreted as a reference to weed🍀 so I might have it wrong? 1 Link to comment

shapeshifter August 13 Share August 13 Stephen and the other Late Nighters are finally back after the Olympics. He was very upbeat, of course, and his writers and graphics folks had some fun Walz jokes. I'm curious to see tonight's take on last night's "event." His first interview was with CNN news anchor, Kaitlan Collins. I googled her and was surprised that she's just 32. It will be interesting to see the trajectory of her career. 1 Link to comment

I especially got a kick out of her story about the day she found out Biden announced he wasn't running for reelection. I got a really good laugh out of the clip of Ingrham referencing Milwaukee when talking about Minnesota. Oh, my god, that was amazing. It reminded me of a time I was looking through a Cosmopolitan magazine, and they had an article talking about the cities with hte most single men, for women looking to meet someone. Denver was one of the cities listed. According to their map, Denver is apparently part of the state of Wyoming :p. 1 Link to comment
DanaK August 21 Share August 21 Did Stephen say there were about 6,000 people in the audience the first night of the convention? Whatever the specific number, it’s certainly a lot more than his usual audience. Hillary Clinton was a good guest the first night; too bad for the late hour. Nancy Pelosi was on the second night and let’s just say she knows how to avoid directly answering an awkward question lol. Plus Stephen and company had to deal with a loud pro-Palestinian protester during her segment 3 Link to comment

Stephen really does feed off of the (larger) audience, and of course he had to be buoyed up by those 2 speeches right before his show. I fell asleep before Colbert aired, and watched today, but I'm wondering what hours he and his crew are keeping in Chicago. Is it naps or…? Both Nancy Pelosi and Stephen handled the interruptions superbly, each in their own way. Rather than calling for bouncers, Stephen demonstrated respect for the protestors, pretty much disarming them with charm. Nancy magically took the focus away from them (I may have to rewatch to see exactly how she did that). Speech classes should show a clip of them doing that. 5 Link to comment
