I still have to root for Utkarsh -- partly because I know who he is (never heard of the other two), and partly because of his charity.  I am not a fan of his sweater, however.  It might be less bad if it weren't over that green shirt.

I'm not impressed with Emily.  At all.

I will be fine with a Mark win.

I kind of like that they are highlighting the category when a contestant chooses, but I'm not sold on the sidebar situation.

I actually kinda like the sweater, but not with that shirt. I didn't feel super strongly about rooting for Mark so I'm happy Utkarsh won.

Agreed on both.

Not keeping score on these games but I did run the Islands category and FJ was an instaget.

No clue who Emily or Mark were - was the show not allowed to promote their work because of the strike?

I'm not sure whether it's more embarrassing to miss being in Final Jeopardy or only getting there because Ken gave you pity money. Lol.

I'm so happy that Utkarsh won - his character on "Ghosts" would have loved the categories about basketball, food, and post-apocalyptic pop culture!

He did really well in the meditation category too. His character on Ghosts is a chef and Jay is also a basketball fan. If you aren't watching Ghosts you should.

Mark I've at least heard of, though I'm not familiar with his work. I had to google Emily; she's from Schitt's Creek, which I've never seen.

I feel like I’m one of the few here who was familiar with all three contestants. I expected Mark to win, was pleasantly surprised by Utkarsh’s strong showing after a shaky start, and was completely embarrassed for Emily.

Correct. While on strike, actors cannot promote any of their completed film or television work.

SAG-AFTRA members cannot during the strike promote work previously performed under the then-valid traditional contract between their union and AMPTP they are now on strike over (e.g. the Oppenheimer cast walking out of their film's premiere when the strike was called, or work performed long ago under that contract being verboten, such as discussing old shows at conventions).  But just as they can currently work on productions such as this under the Network Code contract, which they are not striking over (e.g. game shows, soap operas, and a few others), they could also promote that unstruck work.  There are no strike-related limitations on what the production company can do to promote its show.

I felt so sorry for Emily Hampshire; I wouldn’t do much better. I like to think I would have handled the disaster with equal aplomb.
But, yeah. Obviously she had not watched enough of the show to play.
She looked familiar. She was in the 12 Monkeys television series and was a regular on the award winning Schitt’s Creek.

All I know about Mark Duplass is that his brother, Jay Duplass, starred in the TV series about academia, The Chair.
They should bring him back in some version of Celebrity Jeopardy! Second Chance, IMO.

I f’love Ghosts, a truly ensemble show in which Utkarsh Ambudkar is a big reason for its continuing success.

You’re being very kind. It didn’t seem like the issue was not understanding the game. On other celebrity games you could tell when contestants knew the answer but had trouble with buzzer timing or things like that. But when Mark or Utkarsh answered relatively easy questions, you could hear Emily go “Wow!” like she thought they were geniuses for knowing a simple fact. She definitely was a good sport about it all, so points to her for that!

I loved Emily on Schitt's Creek, and was hoping she'd make a good showing. I was disappointed. It's a mystery as to why she wanted to be on the show in the first place, considering her performance. She seemed to buzz in by mistake, several times, how does that happen? And a pity FJ. Yikes.

The two guys (neither of whom I've heard of) did pretty well, once they loosened up. By mid game, it was fun watching them.

This would be a great 30 minute show.  60 minutes is way too long.  I FF'ed through Triple Jeopardy right to Final Jeopardy.

I'm just glad it's a weekly thing. When they did the first primetime tournament (college?) a couple years ago it was on I think four nights a week, and for me that was half an hour after the regular game, and it just got to be a little too much Jeopardy. (I still watched it all, of course.)

I didn't watch the last season of Celebrity Jeopardy but gave it a chance this time due to Utkarsh Ambudkar - I did not realize he was from Baltimore - and the fact that Ken was hosting.  Glad I did as this was a very enjoyable game.  I did pretty well, too.

It's not just that Emily had so many incorrect responses, but that so many made no sense - like Aloha for Cowboy.

I think she saw "Hawaii" and got stuck on it.  I was surprised that no one got cowboys though, given the mention of a Dallas sports team.

That was surprising.  Maybe the guys were just in shock from Emily's terrible "aloha" answer and couldn't recover in time to ring in.

I don't know if I can watch any more of Celebrity Jeopardy.  Between last season and this episode, can they not find celebrities with brains?  That Emily chick was beyond embarrassing.  The only contestant I had ever seen before was the first guy - I recognized him from "The Morning Show", but would have never known him by name.  I know there are actors/celebrities that went to college - where are they???

I think Emily was flustered and was blind guessing to get into the black. She was more professional than other celebrities I've watched compete. I think she wanted to please her father and raise money for a worthy cause.

Never did I ever think I would miss Mayim, but this competition is far better suited to her than it is to Ken.  He puts a good game face on as a professional, but I don't think he enjoys minor level celebrities whiffing on softball questions.  Mayim does better in the relaxed and definitely less competitive atmosphere, where "everything's made up and the points don't matter."

Three rounds are painful.  I didn't know who Utkarsh was, and I didn't remember who Emily was until the end.  I know who Mark Duplass is.  First round I was afraid Uktarsh was channeling his inner Hasan Minhaj, but then he settled down and started taking the clues seriously, and earned his win.

I’m very surprised that so few people here know Mark Duplass! I must just watch different things, because he’s been in so many shows I’ve seen. Mindy Project, Morning Show to name just two. I also loved that short lived HBO series he was in with Amanda Peet and Melanie Lynskey. He’s also written and starred in a bunch of indie films, sometimes with his brother Jay.

Like I said, depends on your viewing habits. I don’t like Ghosts, so I did not recognize that other dude. I’ve never seen Schitt’s Creek, either, and Emily did not inspire me to give it a try.

He used to be one of those people that had me going "who is that guy?" First saw him in Pitch Perfect (he has the rap solo in the male a capella group's performance). Then he was in a couple episodes of Special on Netflix, and I had to google because it was bugging me. I didn't initially watch Ghosts but I caught a few episodes here and there (and then watched the whole first season on demand before the second started) and during the first one I watched I was going "who is that guy?" After two seasons of Ghosts I think I'll remember now.

He did not settle down enough for me. His ongoing devolution into mini-shouts was, at best, annoying.

I admire Utkarsh Ambudkar for being able to settle down enough to play a good game and win, while still keeping up his high energy performance as the comic relief. pt-claps.png

It's surprising to me that I actually was familiar with the celebrities from Episodes 1 and 2 (because I don't watch a whole lot of network TV), but I'm so embarrassed now that I didn't realize that Emily was Stevie from Schitt's Creek. Somehow, she sparked a "Parker Posey character" vibe with me and I guess I couldn't get past that, LOL. I'm glad Utkarsh Ambudkar won, since I love Ghosts and his character on it. Had no idea he used to be a rapper.

I have respect for anyone appearing on Jeopardy! whether they do well or not.

I absolutely freeze under pressure myself and contract a sudden, intense case of the The Dumbs, so I agree. Putting my intellect, of lack thereof, on display for the world is not something I'd be up for.
