Ugh at least we’re done with Dim, but you know they’ll bring Juicy back again. I just hope she doesn’t hook up with Elijah next.
How many documentaries has this department been involved with? It seems like a lot.

I thought it was fun.

I was annoyed with the structure at first, but then I enjoyed it and even laughed out loud at a few of the jokes.  I don't see cops being real about their relationships in a documentary, though. But then, I wouldn't ever agree to be on a documentary that got into my personal business in any way.

And way to squeeze Nolan's girlfriend in. Of course her ambulance was the one that picked up the body.

Honestly, I wondered WTF she was doing there. And Wesley too, for that matter.

I thought the same, but just rolled with it since my favorite Castle episodes that I still rewatch are the Mission Impossible Comedy Case episodes.

That's probably why I like Castle's Nolan's trainee's mumbo jumbo too. It's always couched in comedy.

I don't put sugar in my coffee or tea, but I do need comedy in my drama.

I don't understand the documentaries either or speaking about your private lives or letting a film crew in on interrogations or any of it.  And they do this same dumb thing on The Feds version which doesn't need anymore slapstick.

I really hate how much of a joke this show has become. I can't stand the Tim/Lucy double mess.

And then there's the documentary crap. I hate those episodes & the ones where the whole show is body cam footage.

I stopped watching at the "previously on".
I mean Lucy has finished the undercover Academy, only to expose herself in to documentaries... I mean.. PLEASE!
So yeah, I will not watch this, thank you.

That was the other thing that bugged.  I'm like, isn't she an undercover?  Why is she on camera for a documentary?  For that matter, same with Nyla.  None of it made sense.

Just curious.
Did any/many of you who hated this episode also hate the Breaking Bad episode "Fly"?
I loved this episode, and I'm also one of those (few?) who loved "Fly."

From week to week, this show seems to struggle over whether it is a drama or comedy. Yeah, I know "dramedy" is now a genre, and ostensibly, this is what The Rookie is.

But since the writers cannot seem to achieve any balance between the two, maybe they need to decide on one genre or the other and run with that.

They are not good in drama. Their drama is over the top unrealistic stories. Same as their comedy really, but at least comedy can be unrealistic and over the top..basically they have a problem with both genres cause they are bad writers.

They probably got a pop from the first documentary episode and I would expect a series of going back as long as the show and Feds runs. Unlike the MASH Interview episodes you don't have a stunt cast reporter to get back into acting.

I didn't love the episode, but I didn't like it all that much either. I hated "Fly." It was well received, so I don't think you're the only one who loved it.

I don’t mind some humor but this was just silly to me especially with Gray finding a painting that looks just like him. Will there be doppelgängers for Nolan and his girlfriend next week?

By the time they discovered the secret room full of treasure, I wondered if the film crew were staging an elaborate prank on the precinct. I couldn’t fathom what the point would be, but the portrait of General Grey seemed too ridiculous to be real.

This show started as a drama with some touches of humour, I would say. Now (insofar as it can be said to have any consistent tone) I’d call it comedy-drama. (Not a dramedy, which, as I understand the term, gives more emphasis to the drama.)

Please, please, no more doppelgängers!

With the Grey homage we have had two and the initial appearance was to have the sex, when the leads were officer and her supervisor. With the open relationship and Dim out of the picture as a comedy I can see other characters getting their ham it up shot.

Speaking of Dim I was looking at that promo tease and Dim, Juicy and the CIA had me wondering who, was this the right show.

That is where I fall a comedy with the occasional victim we can't feel good about laughing at.

Loved that the family was named Beaudelaire. I guess you could say that Dim fell victim to A Series Of Unfortunate Events.

I actually kinda like semi-comedic episodes of this nature if they aren't overused. Once a season is enough. With all the Elijah BS going on, I'll take something lighthearted from this gang as a change of pace.

As for the painting, it wasn't burned or run through a shredder, it was slashed in three places. An easy to fix by a skilled restorer.

Exactly!  I was hoping more surreal stuff would happen after they found the treasure room, but alas...

I look at this show as mostly fun with some serious elements and some dramatic elements, but mostly it is a bit over the top.  I mean, this was the show that spent nearly an entire season subtly--and not so subtly--exploring racism and law enforcement.  In a way that wasn't so serious that it turned people off.  That's a good thing.  This show is mostly fun, but not afraid to tell hard stories, or tackle hard things.

Lucy buried underground by a serial killer was pretty dramatic, but it was also totally over the top, same with an entire hospital being held hostage for an organ transplant.  Being over the top has always been a hallmark of this show.  They held back in their, forgive me, rookie season but since season 2, we've been on overdrive.  I'm OK with that, that's what I expect from this show.  Much like the Hawaii 5-0 reboot was, before the story lines made McGarrett all dour and depressed, it was the absurd implausibility of the situations that make the show fun for me.

So the whole Dim and Juicy thing, and now the Sgt. Grey doppelganger painting thing, is just more of the absurdities that make up this show.  It was never meant to be NYP Blue, or Hill Street Blues, or The Wire.  If I were looking to this show to give me raw realness, then I'd be looking in the wrong place.

With that said, I think that's why I am so bloody tired of the Elija / Insomniac!La Fiera drug smuggling story line.  It isn't fun enough.  It isn't quirky or interesting.  Hell, the most interesting thing about it is that La Fiera's replacement doesn't sleep, that's a character trait that can be played for laughs, or least used for interesting stuff.  But so far it hasn't.

Okay, count me in as someone who loved it.

A good old-fashioned whodunnit without any angst or drama. The whole cast obviously having a good time. No Elijah.

It wasn't all just silliness. Poor Dim wound up in a dumpster.

Also count me in as thinking that painting could totally be repaired.

Hill Street Blues had plenty of over-the-top joke episodes.

I appreciated that since this was an Alexi Hawley show, law enforcement was incompetent enough to allow a guy to run up and stab a painting repeatedly (and I also love that the painting wasn't even encased in glass).

Ooo, maybe the painting will be repaired and show up as a gift for Commander Grey in the series finale.
