shantown February 16, 2023 Author Share February 16, 2023 I find it strangely heartwarming that Tori and Devin opted to give everyone $38,000. They've never been my favorites, but that was a solid move and I I like that the long-time friendships between of all of them likely played into that decision. A little ticked that final pretty much came down to a regular ol' elimination challenge, but at least there were a lot of cool looking lights? 12 1 Link to comment

snarts February 16, 2023 Share February 16, 2023 Happy that Tori & Devin won. Bored with the three episode final. It was stupid dragged out format, basically coming down to an elimation in the end. The whole 100 hour thing was dumb. They sure had a lot of down time seeing as it jumped from hour 69 to hour 82 after the helicopter mission. Then they had 13-14 hours of rest at the campsite before the final challenge. Guessing thats so it would be more dramatic at night under the lights. Admitting a bit of a bias against Nany because she annoys the crap out of me but I thought targeting Aneesa's ankle and then immediately feigning sympathy was super shady. Nany'd be the first one crying foul if Aneesa had targeted her injured knee. Speaking of shady, Jordan suddenly being all "my girl" once he realized Tori was going to win half a million dollars... 16 1 1 Link to comment

Nany'd be the first one crying foul if Aneesa had targeted her injured knee. Honestly, I guess it's a plus that she was upfront about it, but I found it pretty distasteful that she considered targeting her opponent's injury as part of a winning strategy. She may be too young to remember it, but I hope she gets a million copies of The Karate Kid sent to her. "Go for the ankle, Nany!" I'm just glad this whole season of "It's Nany's year to win!" is over. I really, really thought they were setting up for that ending so I was majorly pleased that it didn't go that way. I have no problem if she were to earn her win, but it seemed like she felt entitled to it. This is not a participation event. I was also super happy that Jordan had no way of blaming Aneesa for their loss. He lost in his matches against Johnny while Aneesa actually got points. He only had to make one and they would've been in the final. I don't think he would have been as gracious if the situation were reversed. Ccongrats to Tori and Devin. They really did seem like the most cohesive team and they deserved their win. 12 2 Link to comment
AntFTW February 16, 2023 Share February 16, 2023 Devin and Tori balanced each other out perfectly, because they know what they're good at and they stay in their lanes for the most part. I love Nany. I wanted this for her so bad, but she was useless in that cinder block puzzle. As I'm watching them move the bricks to the puzzle platform, what I thought they should have done(which is what I would have done) was map out the puzzle pattern on the ground rather than try to build it vertically and risk getting it wrong. You can experiment more if they're horizontal, see your errors, and fix them. Once you see that they're right, just stack them up. Probably would have been a little more tiring because it's these big ass blocks. 5 Link to comment

I think had Aneesa and Jordan just made it past that elimination, I think they could have had a good shot at winning. It wasn't the usual footrace to the money. That final game gave no advantage to anyone. Edited February 16, 2023 by AntFTW 7 Link to comment
aghst February 16, 2023 Share February 16, 2023 They changed the rules on that elimination game. You just have to get into the circle, not put the ball in the receptacle? That changes from strength/endurance to agility. Nany was easily juking by Aneesa, who'd have difficulty staying in front of her even if she wasn't injured. Whenever that game was used in non-Final elimination. the defender was in the circle, near the receptacle, so it was a wrestling/tackling fight. Many had all that room outside the circle to go back and forth. Hell if she couldn't juke, she could just sprint around until Aneesa fell behind and then go into the circle. Jordan and Johnny just tried mostly to go through each other, though they might have had trouble running past each other. But a football player is trained to either evade tackles or in the case of a bigger player vs. a smaller defender, go through them, "truck them" as they say. I guess Aneesa wasn't going to run full speed into Nany and trample over her, even if she didn't have injuries. The puzzle won the this round. Devin was more methodical and Tori didn't argue with him, just trusted that he was right, while Johnny and Nany bickered because they probably didn't have the same plans until they'd stacked almost all the bricks to discover their mistake. I'd be curious to see how much they ran in this Final compared to previous Finals. Aneesa with her ankle and Nany with her knee problem may not have been able to run the distances that previous Finals required, including going uphill a lot. Jordan and Aneesa may not have even made it to third if Olivia didn't get injured but somehow, the endurance part really didn't eliminate Aneesa sooner so it seems like they were just able to jog some distances here and there but it wasn't a continuous slog climbing a mountain like a lot of other Finals. Not sure how I feel about eliminations at the end but they did it before with Kaycee eliminating Nany and most of the people who make the Final have been avoiding eliminations most of the season to make the Finals so it's good to see them have to survive elimination. This tunnel thing I guess was a combination of endurance, strength and puzzles. Visually it looks better to run long distances in the wide open with helicopter shots and such. But there's more suspense here because getting a lead in this 4-rooms deal is no guarantee that you will win. Banany might have been able to come back if they only had to rebuild once. But having to rebuild again they had no chance to catch up. The money sharing is cool. Devin and Tori are each giving up 1/4 of their winnings before taxes. This is their first time winning money. When CT did it, he'd won so many times it wasn't as big of a deal. But I suspect the strategy is to buy loyalty or allies for future seasons. Probably also they could convince others to protect them because they keep their word and are generous. Wow $38k is significant for all the pairs who didn't win but made it to the Final and came close to winning like Banany. That suggests MTV is really cheap and making the Final isn't some great windfall. 4 Link to comment

Jillibean February 16, 2023 Share February 16, 2023 I'm very satisfied with the result, even if the final itself felt a bit lackluster. The players can only do what you put in front of them, and Devin and Tori were so clearly superior to the other teams in basically all aspects other than eating and brute strength. They worked so well together as a team, and it's poetic justice that it came down to a puzzle that Johnny and Nany severely botched by not paying attention and yelling at each other. I feel like Jordan was mentally checked out. Leaving his shirt on and not figuring out the targets for the helicopter section seem like errors that are very unlike him. Nany attacking Aneesa's ankle was not cute. I get that she wants to win, but this is her friend and my understanding is that she really actually hurt Aneesa badly. And same old Nany overall--mental errors all over the place. I rolled my eyes when Johnny started yelling about how they should have won the corn maze but Nany was too slow and Devin calmly told him they hadn't even been close--and Johnny absorbed that, then immediately started ranting about how unfair it had been that Devin and Tori had a better route. Yeesh. Seeing him lose was joyful, but while he's taking the credit, Nany deserves a lot of it also. They came very close to losing an elimination against someone with one working leg because Nany is a mess. Devin's approach to both the helicopter and puzzle show why he is a top tier challenger despite his mid-class athletic abilities. So much of these challenges is logistics, and he does them maybe better than anyone else who has ever done that show. I think part of the reason his partnership with Tori worked so well is that he was so confident she would pull through on the strength and athletic piece that it took the pressure off him and let him just groove in his niche. And also, she never yelled at him to run faster or keep up with her. It's nice to see the Ride or Die season end with the team that worked the best together and that showed mutual respect and love the whole season taking the win. 15 1 2 Link to comment

As much as I don't like Nany and her horse-teeth veneers, she had no other choice but to go low on Aneesa and I don't think she was truly "targeting" her injury. AncientNewbie February 16, 2023 Share February 16, 2023 I could have lived with any of the final three winning. A nice career capstone for two of the women, even if they won't actually go away; yet another win for the GOAT argument for two of the men, and then a team that had really grown on me lately (even though "what's 8 times 9 Josh?" endeared Devin to me previously.) I did feel the choppy editing taking me out of it. I know there were events that didn't air from earlier eps, so I wonder what happened this time around. If they were selling the 100 hours, I wanted to see 100 hours (not literally) of activity and suffering. In the end, I'm good with the win. These two have been solid competitors for a few years and have lost their AYTO origins to really blend into the world of Challenge vets. 3 Link to comment

Yup, Tori let Devin give the direction on the puzzle while she was the workhorse there. That’s the right call. Tori is usually bad at puzzles, but she’s usually a great workhorse. Nany is terrible at puzzles. Johnny is okay, not great, but just okay at puzzles. I also believe that Nany would not have had the energy to remove all, most, or a significant amount of the blocks. Also add that Nany was working with a hurt knee. I feel like Johnny had to do double the work on the puzzle. It looks like he had to move the blocks and also try to figure it out. 2 Link to comment

He was so devastated after Spies, Lies and Allies because he couldn't run up a hill and that's, in his mind, why he lost. So he spent the off time running. And he said he ran with no headphones or distractions because when you're on the challenge there's no headphones or coaches in his ear. snarts February 16, 2023 Share February 16, 2023 (edited) Curious on how/if the rules have changed regarding the prize money. Way back when this series was in its infancy, on Real World/Road Rules: Battle of the Seasons, Sean Duffy masterminded a formula to share prize money among the Real World team (ha ha, socialism) If I'm remembering correctly, they banned somehow on the very next season. I like I half assed watched last season so I don't really remember CT sharing his winnings. Maybe it's ok if it's done after the final and not discussed beforehand? But, like others have mentioned, it's bound to endear some to Devin/Tori and potentially change people's behavior towards them on future challenges. Hmmm. No one else had outright announced deals to split money with the losers since then, until CT and Kaycee last year. AntFTW February 16, 2023 Share February 16, 2023 (edited) One thing I noticed that they don't emphasize is that Devin and Tori also got their cinder block puzzle wrong when they started building it up in the same way that Johnny and Nany got it wrong. It seems like they realized it and had to reset, but they caught it much sooner. Unlike Nany and Johnny, they hadn't put most of the blocks in place before they realized it. Devin and Tori also start to build the puzzle one row of blocks higher than they should have, but Devin and Tori ends up tearing down this side, and starts working on the opposite side. The opposite side is where they figure out how the puzzle should look to then go back and rebuild this side that they originally fucked up on. Edited February 16, 2023 by AntFTW 3 Link to comment
Midwestern Lady February 16, 2023 Share February 16, 2023 I can't help but compare/contrast. Aneesa really appeared to be injured with that puffy purple ankle. It hurt to watch her walk. I just knew that whole design and leg of the final was all his idea. I can't believe Nany and Johnny just quit. Yes, their structure was near completion, but to me that meant that if they removed the blocks and stacked them in a orderly way to find their missing piece, it would have been fairly quicker to reassemble. They could have even have one person looking for the piece while the other arranged the remaining loose blocks so they knew where they went. Anyway, I would have been annoyed with a Nany/Johnny win because I can't stand either of them, but I greatly dislike Nany, particularly because of her entitlement. And whoever upthread said she would have been bawling about unfairness if the roles were reversed and Aneesa targeted her injury as game play strategy was spot on. I would have been fine with any of the other teams winning, but I think Tori and Devin had the best Ride or Die partnership the entire season. They communicated well, they strategized appropriately, they calmed each other down/hyped each other up as necessary, and they constantly checked each other but constructively. It was a bit refreshing to see. And it was quite generous of them to share the money. I was over here with my calculator trying to figure out how much that left for them. jsm1125 February 16, 2023 Share February 16, 2023 I have to wonder if Devin/Tori would have shared some of the money had the other top 3 teams not included someone from their Vacation Alliance (Nany and Aneesa), which also includes Kaycee, Faysal and Josh. I don’t understand why Nany felt so entitled to finally winning, as did Bananas on her behalf, as did the show itself, but the same narrative wasn’t lent to Aneesa. I can’t stand Nany ever since Bloodlines, which was idk how many years ago. There were a lot of rookies bc they were the relatives of the vets (“bloodlines”). I forgot what happened Nany had an argument with one of them, and she kept shouting with a real bitch attitude “know your role rookie, know your role”. Over and over. It was so annoying to me because she had never won a damned thing and she acted like she was the Queen Of The Challenge. She always squeaks by due to her relationships and tail riding. I’m not saying it’s not a strategy since it works for her, but once she has to perform she’s a total zero. And the nerve to think no other team has the right to throw in her against Kaycee! Excuse me? That’s the game! If you don’t want to go against her then come as a team together or come on separate seasons. She really thinks very highly of herself and feels everyone should consider her untouchable. She is very unimpressive to me and I’m glad they did not win 11 3 Link to comment

Really? I watched it, but I don’t remember. (I’ve watched them all, but they all blend together in my head). That’s so obnoxious. 22 minutes ago, Never Again said: And the nerve to think no other team has the right to throw in her against Kaycee! Excuse me? That’s the game! After going after Aneesa’s hurt ankle to beat her, she can no longer criticize anyone else’s moves to win. 6 Link to comment

It was Dario and his twin. 1 Link to comment
