When Frank Sr. was mouthing off to Darlene, I think we all knew what was coming.  She's shot so many people that we've seen that I'm sure there are plenty of others. They are going to fill all of the open land with bodies.  For a rural area, a lot of people go missing to never be found.

How does Wyatt not realize that he cannot have a normal "I'm leaving conversation" with Darlene?  Does he expect her to be rational?  And now he's making the worst possible decision.

Of course Jonah has run off.  Wendy and Marty, criminal masterminds and parents of teenagers, did not see that coming.  🙄  Those cutlets would have to be chicken crack to have him even stay for dinner.

I keep forgetting to mention: how does Darlene’s farm not have a friggin backhoe that she is making them bury the bodies with a shovel? WTF?

Hubby and I wondered the same thing.  If nothing else, Wyatt should have asked Darlene to buy one for him!!!

Oh my god yes....how stupid is Wyatt to think he could tell her?  Just leave and disappear.   He would literally not make it out of the house alive if he told her.

Lets be honest. Wyatt clearly dropped multiple IQ points between season 2 and 3. He went from accepted to a good college with funds (from Ruth if not scholarships) to breaking and entering and having a sexual relationship Darlene, who FYI was hardly a master manipulator.

Its Wyatt, not Ruth, who proves the Langmore curse. Of course Darlene would have shot gunned Wyatt if he broke up with her. Darlene always handles her problems with a shot gun. She also gets petty and bitchy over the dumbest things. In an earlier episode she nixed the whole "organic special heroin" deal with the Chicago chef guy because why? No reason - he was actually quite respectful to her and the farm. Her temper would never allow Wyatt to walk out the door after saying he wanted to leave.

I don't know that Wyatt has gotten less smart, but I agree he is the Langmore curse in action.  He is still emotionally a child in many ways while being forced to be much too adult in others.  Coming from such an abusive background has left him wanting real connection and to be loved and cherished.  That is what BSC Darlene does for him.  She is offering him this ideal of a happy family unit with Zeke.  Of course those if us looking in can clearly see this family unit can never be idyllic when Darlene does address all of her problems with a shot gun, is manufacturing opium, and is extremely volatile.  A good mother she isn't.  Now let me just pack these heroin baggies into the baby's car seat and head on out for a deal.

Wyatt 😭

I am afraid he is going to be killed when Frank Jr. comes after Darlene.

Wendy destroys another life, I know her lawyer wasn’t an innocent but he is screwed now with the cartel. Hopefully they can put Javi away.

She nixed that deal because it wasn't her idea and feared losing power and influence with Wyatt in particular.  The whole season is a power struggle for Wyatt between her and Ruth.  She is incredibly insecure.

How did Javi know who the Byrds lawyer was?  I must have missed it.

Frank Jr is def gonna go for Darlene and there will be unintended consequences.  I know we as a nation have gotten past whoopin our kids, but Jonah makes me long wistfully for the days when grannies would make smart ass kids go pick out their own switch off the tree (miss you grandma!).  I do like the prospect of Ruth possibly being re-aligned with the Byrds.

yeesh, with the Doctor thinking Wyatt was Darlene's son. At that this point though, Wyatt, there's being naive, and being dumb.

I really like this season, and this was said in the other threads, Wendy and Marty are just going putting out fires *constantly*; whether it's Navarro snipping at them on the phone, Javier doing his deal, Darlene darlene-ingl, Jonah, politics - they're everywhere all the time. Oh, and juggling the FBI.

What I like about Darlene and Ruth is that Darlene still thinks it's 1977 or whatever, and she's dealing drugs around the Ozarks, but Ruth sees what the larger picture is, partly because of Marty's influence, but she's able to deal with a wider range of criminals and hold her own. The problem is, Darlene will just shoot someone for sneezing in the wrong direction. Marty and Ruth are 'rational actors'. Darlene is not. (As I'm sure we knew was coming up with Frank). Javier certainly isn't, and Marty dancing around Javier is masterful.

My spanish is rudimentary, but I always crack up when I hear 'pendejo'. I catch a 'chingate' in there once and while.

I'm always surprised though how Marty, Wendy and Navarro speak so openly on the phone. The Sopranos were way more cagey. I suppose it's easier when you can talk in person. Still though.

I like how Javier is super-duper the boss now, but being set up like a million miles away.

Really great scene with Marty and Jonah; I liked how they shot Jonah out of focus because Marty is the master.

There isn't any way Wyatt lives this out.

I mentioned that above. It seems quite much that Frank doesn't know about Darlene at this point. She shot his son's dick off. LIterally. So you go down to her place to chew her out? You don't send your capos. That's a bit much.

I actually majored in Spanish decades ago. I've forgotten a lot of it, but I learned a "chinga" phrase (a pretty stupid one, I'd put it here but don't know if that's allowed) from my summer boyfriend when I was 16 and went to school in Mexico for a few weeks to supposedly improve my language skills.  I never use the "f" word in English but the Spanish word sounds almost poetic.

It's unbelievable that Wyatt is so taken with Darlene that he doesn't see how dangerous she is to him.  If Mrs. Snell dispatched Mr. Snell to the great big poppy farm in the sky, and goes around shooting whoever point blank without a second thought, how does he think he's gonna fare if he crosses her, or tries to leave?  I knew he was rehearsing the goodbye speech in front of someone before the reveal.  We all knew Frank Sr. was dead as soon as he walked in the door and started yelling at Darlene.  Why does Wyatt think that his girlfriend (lover as Darlene calls him) and Zeke, a baby he has no relation to in any way, shape or form, is a family?

Wendy's idea of keeping her family together by throwing Jonah under the bus with Federal Charges that can be "wiped away" or sealed because he's a minor is so reckless.  Now Jonah's gone.

Charlotte has really nailed Wendy's speech pattern and attitude.  Remember when most of us couldn't stand her?

How Marty continuously and consistently keeps his cool and composure for every little brush fire that comes up is amazing.

One more episode of this Part 1 release to go.  I miss this show again already!

Wyatt presumably does not know the full history of Darlene's murderous ways, or even close to it. I can't remember what the public-facing story is on what happened to Mr. Snell, if there is one. It might be that he only knows of Frank Sr. and the guy who was threatening to rat about the celebrity chef's OD. It's fairly easy to make a distinction between those people directly threatening Darlene and thus having to go, and someone like Wyatt who would just be breaking her heart if he left.

And love (and teenagers) are often blind anyways.

Oh Wyatt, you poor dumb thing. Wyatt might be a smart kid, but he is also pretty screwed up from his ridiculously abusive and dysfunctional family, and that has seriously messed up his emotional intelligence. He sees Darlene as this strong protective woman he can have a real family with and not the terrifying murderous psychopath that she really is. She would have absolutely killed him if he tried to leave her, Ruth should have insisted he leave right away without a trace.

Wendy is cold as ice. That expression when she told Charlotte that Jonah would be joining them in Chicago sent shivers down my spine.

Darlene told Wyatt in a previous episode that she "had to" kill her husband (I think this was when they were discussing why he was mad at Ruth, and Darlene trying to convince him that everything is really the Byrdes' fault).  Wyatt was just like "oh wow" but otherwise didn't react much.  So he knows.  And he is a giant moron.

Wyatt, you big stupid dummy ... (though, in his limited defense, he's used to his elders - Cade, Russ, Boyd, even Ruth - being violent criminals with anger management problems, so he's uniquely vulnerable to someone like Darlene)

My hatred for Darlene, and annoyance with Jonah, are such that I loved Wendy for most of this episode.  Watching her menace and outmaneuver these characters was a delight.

I'm starting to wonder if Wendy is actually becoming delusional about Ben ... at times it's like she almost believes that he's missing, and that she's the good sister trying to track him down.  The scene with her father was quite interesting.  "Casinos and nudie bars" "no wonder Ben went missing" -- her father sees right through her respectable business owner / concerned big sister facade, even if he doesn't know Ben died or that she's responsible.

I loved Ruth this episode.

Poor Jim.  Should've stuck with Wilkes and steered clear of Wendy!

My biggest annoyance with this show (other than Darlene) is how they've handled Frank Sr.  When the head of the KC mob was introduced, his organization was legitimately scary.  Then he unrealistically allowed his son to get maimed without retaliating. Now he stupidly goes into Darlene's house completely alone and apparently unarmed and gets killed in 2 seconds.  Good grief.  So dumb.

Frank Jr. is 40??? I thought the character was younger.

I actually think Javier is rational in his own way.  Even killing the sheriff made sense in his mind -- the sheriff was the only thing protecting Darlene, and then the sheriff comes right into a somewhat isolated house, alone, without backup, without even having to be lured from his desk ... Javi can't believe his luck!  How can he not take the shot?  Sheriff gone, problem solved!  Make the Byrdes (who he views as servants) clean up after him!
