A fractured girl group lives in the shadows of their once prominent hip-hop dynasty. After their popularity skyrocketed with the success of their chart-topping single, “Nasty Girl,” they were once regarded as one of the greatest girl groups of their generation. Despite critical and commercial success, the group was plagued by internal conflict and jealousy. Estranged and out of touch, the four women, now in their 40s reunite for a chance to recapture their fame and regain the swagger they had in the ‘90s when they were legends in the hip-hop world.

Original Air Date: October 19, 2021

I really enjoyed this episode. It had the right balance of humor and drama without being over the top. I’m looking forward to seeing all of the various storylines play out as the season goes on and I love all the 90’s nostalgia.

I loved this show - wasn't sure how I would like it, but it drew me in immediately!  The chemistry between the women is great, and love all the singing, especially Brandy, when she's singing solo with her acoustic guitar.

The individual stories are interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing how they all play out.

Well thought out, great acting and interesting storylines - I hope this show stays around for a while!

I really liked it! I was afraid it would be too cutesy or clichéd but the ladies all brought their A games and the writing was really solid. I really felt like this was a real late 90s/early 2000s girl group.

I liked the secondary character Lil Muffin but I did have a hard time believing she'd give up her spot closing the BET awards and go on tour with them. But I enjoyed her scenes with Jill so I'll overlook it.

Really liked the music. The back story could be a little more complex. One song and they go from obscurity to world tour and this is just the first episode. I guess it can only go downhill from there. The show has lots of energy, I hope they can keep it up.

Really enjoyed it! Loved the 90s nostalgia (when they did a “Cribs” spot I cracked up) and all the individual back stories seem interesting. The chemistry between the women felt genuine and the music was fun.

Kind of the same idea as Girls5eva

Exactly how I felt. Very similar setups.

The plot itself was pretty paint by numbers but the 4 leads were amazing. Eve has some pretty great comedic timing.  This was the only new broadcast drama I was looking to this season and so far, so good.

I liked it but I wasn't expecting much.

My big takeaways, I'd almost suspect that April Bowlby is sort of being typecast.  She's sleeping with Brianna's husband and she was Kandi on Two and A Half Men.  And no, I don't believe an upcoming star would cede her big breakout spot to another act even if they helped save her life.

I sat down to watch this and saw RonReaco Lee and thought “Sister Sister”! It’s like my childhood come back.

I really enjoyed Nautri’s work on Power, I was glad to see her get another role. I am not familiar Nadine Velasquez (Valeria) but I thought she did a good job with what she was given.

All the women look AMAZING by the way. So beautiful, and they are all dressed for their shapes. Except for that sweater cut out thing they had Valeria wearing.

Will we be able to buy any of these songs on iTunes?

There were so many similar plot points as well.  Both are girl groups from the 90s whose fame fades but are brought back into relevance 20ish years later by a current popular artist.  Both pilot episodes had a comeback performance.  Both groups had a member who was in the closet during their initial tenure (though Gloria from Gurls5Eva had already come out in the years afterwards).  Heck, didn't Girls5Eva also have an MTV Cribs clip?  Or was that some other house show?

Clearly the target audience and style are different for the two shows.  So hopefully the plots will start to diverge with the next episode.  But in general it's really funny how Hollywood tends to develop multiple shows/movies/etc with similar concepts around the same time.

Well, they are clearly 2 very different shows, Girls5eva had FIVE girls in the group, & one of them died leaving four. Nasty Bitches only had FOUR from the beginning, totally different plot. 🤣

I'm actually not sure I ever saw all the episodes of Girls5eva, I think I started watching, & never finished.

How did the daughter of a preacher end up being a Catholic. It must have been during rehab or the prominent religion of the town she moved to in Montana.

I assumed that or her husband was Catholic and she converted.

I had not heard of this show, Girls5eva, so I looked it up, it came out this past summer. A lot of the plot points are similar- if Queens continues to be promising I will check it out during a hiatus. (I probably didn’t know about it because I didn’t have Peacock until recently).

edited to add:

A single mom, a lesbian church lady, a washed up musician, a disgraced tv host and a pop star fresh out of rehab going on a world tour!

This cracks me up!

I knew he looked familiar but I couldn't place him. Thanks for this!

I enjoyed this. I didn't know it was gonna be so comedy heavy so that was a pleasant surprise.

I did keep comparing it to Girls5Eva though but I imagine it'll seem less of a copy in the upcoming episodes.

I don't know the actress playing Jill but she was so good in this. Eve was also amazing and Brianna is definitely my fave. 'You're sleeping on the couch, BITCH!' had me rolling.

I thought Brandy and Nadine Vasquez were kinda weak but Brandy brings me so much nostalgia so for that alone I'm happy lol.

Does anyone know how this did ratings wise?

For me, QUEENS has the edge because it's on network TV (and Hulu), which I have, unlike Girls5Eva exclusively on Peacock, which I don't have. 🤷‍♀️

I, too, am loving the music on QUEENS and hope it's made available. The cypher was great!

She said her father was a deacon. Married men can be deacons in the Catholic Church, and administer the sacrament of communion, but they don’t have the rank of actual priests.

With her father attempting spiritual healing by praying the gay away I would go with converted and joined the Catholic Church somewhere along the way. Perhaps upon marriage.

I was waiting for Naomi to pull on the sweater and reveal that Valeria had a hickey or something...*LOL*.

I loved Girls5Eva, at least the 3 episodes that Peacock allowed me to watch.   I refuse to pay for another subscription to watch the rest.  Though I still hope I can find a way to watch them...*LOL*.

I agree that the four main ladies have some great chemistry.    I'm definitely interested in watching more.

So finally watching this now. No surprise, Eve's my favorite. Brandy surprised me with her rap skills and how much I don't like her character yet. Naturi surprised me with how much I liked her character at the hospital and when she did her verse on stage. I've never seen her act before but she ended up impressing me.

Nautri is a good actress. I’ve loved her in the Power universe.
